Mr Loverman, Shōgun, And Blue Lights Score At The BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — See The Full Winners’ List
Image
With awards season all but done and dusted, Oscars. Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.

On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama.

BAFTA TV Awards 2025: Full Winners List and Key Highlights
Alan Cumming
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.

This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

2025 BAFTA TV Awards: ‘Mr. Bates vs the Post Office’ and ‘Mr Loverman’ win big over ‘Baby Reindeer’ (full winners list)
Image
Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.

However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.

Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

After The Shawshank Redemption, Morgan Freeman Starred In An Awful Stephen King Movie
Image
On the DVD special features for Lawrence Kasdan's 2003 psychic sci-fi hodgepodge "Dreamcatcher," author Stephen King talks a little bit about how he came to write the 2001 novel on which it was based. He said that he had recently been severely injured in a car accident, and later admitted that he was under the influence of Oxycontin while writing the novel. King also noted that "Dreamcatcher" was supposed to be -- at least in part -- about exploring taboos. King felt that all sexual taboos had been covered by literature, stating that the bedroom door had already been opened. The bathroom door, though, he felt was still closed. The bathroom is where one explored their most personal and disgusting habits, King said, and it was high time he explored that.

As such, there's a scene in "Dreamcatcher" (both the novel and the movie) wherein a character named Beav (Jason Lee) is sitting on a toilet,...

‘Band of Brothers’ Cast: What Are They Doing in 2025?
Image
There are a few shows or movies that set a standard and a template for a whole genre. HBO’s 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers not only did that for war dramas but also launched and boosted many acting careers. The series, created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, presented real-life events of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division throughout World War II.

The ensemble cast of Band of Brothers is one of the main reasons people still remember the show. Apart from playing the roles of soldiers, actors like Scott Grimes as Donald Malarkey, Kirk Acevedo as Joe Toye, and Damian Lewis as Richard Winters made the audience empathize with their losses and wins and connect with their camaraderie. Now, after more than two decades since its premiere, let’s catch up with some of these talented cast members and see what they are up to.

‘Wolf Hall’ Team Explains Cromwell’s Ending, Anne Boleyn Parallels & Why Henry Cried
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light series finale.] Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall book trilogy puts historical figure Thomas Cromwell into a more favorable spotlight. The Tudor-era figure is known for masterminding the separation of the Church of England from Rome and playing a major role in the English Reformation era. But even his close bond with King Henry VIII couldn’t save Cromwell from the same fate that befell two of Henry’s wives. The series finale of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light started with a Cromwell and Anne Boleyn parallel and ended with the former’s demise. Despite all his knowledge of Henry (Damian Lewis), Mark Rylance‘s Cromwell held out hope that Henry would change his mind about his execution, just like Anne (Claire Foy) did in the Wolf Hall 2015 finale that was recreated in The Mirror and the Light‘s first episode. ‘Wolf Hall: The Mirror And The Light’ Producer Colin Callender: Reuniting Cast 10 Years Later For Finale Was “A Four-Dimensional Chess Game” – Contenders TV
Image
It took a decade of maneuvering to finally complete the television adaptation of novelist Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall trilogy with the co-stars back on screen, executive producer Colin Callender said at Saturday’s Deadline Contenders TV panel in Los Angeles.

Joined by actor Damian Lewis, who plays King Henry VIII opposite Mark Rylance’s Thomas Cromwell, the Playground Entertainment founder and chairman made it clear that filming the final chapter without both Lewis and Rylance aboard wasn’t an option, even if the window took a long time to open.

“We had to, over the years, sort of play a four-dimensional chess game to get all the actors to be available at the same time,” Callender said. “Because at the heart of this series, it’s the story of two very powerful men who need each other to succeed but who don’t fully trust each other. It’s...

‘Wolf Hall’ Review: ‘The Mirror and the Light’ Vividly Reflects the Dread of Unprecedented Times
Image
In “Wolf Hall,” the British historical drama adapted from Hillary Mantel’s beloved books, Thomas Cromwell (Mark Rylance) takes on many different titles. Cromwell is, essentially, a political fixer for King Henry VII (Damian Lewis), but depending on the scenario he’s in or the conversation he’s having, he’ll don whatever hat best suits his needs. When a barterer claims to be wary of working with a Lutheran, Cromwell replies, “Me? No, sir. I’m a banker.”

Back in the day, Cromwell’s loyalty to Cardinal Wolsey (Jonathan Pryce) — as well as his tenacity in serving him — earned the nickname “the butcher’s dog.” Cromwell likes that label, probably more so than the diminutive “Crom” (pronounced like “Crumb”), as Henry calls him, or any of the besmirching variations on his origins as a commoner. Despite becoming the right hand of the King and thus the second most powerful man in England,...

Roush Review: Heads Roll in Henry’s Court in Magnificent ‘Wolf Hall’ Sequel
Image
King Henry VIII’s court wasn’t known for happy endings. (Just ask his wives.) And so it goes, with bitter irony, for his most trusted — until he wasn’t — minister, counselor, and hatchet man Thomas Cromwell. Sacrificing his soul to do the mercurial monarch’s grisly bidding, the cunning statesman learns the limits of obedience when palace intrigue contrives to condemn him to history’s chopping block. Returning to their Emmy-nominated roles from the Peabody-winning 2015 adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s bestselling Wolf Hall novels, Mark Rylance as the melancholy Cromwell and Damian Lewis as the king of conniption resume their dastardly duet in Masterpiece‘s masterful six-part sequel, The Mirror and the Light. In a production shimmering with period authenticity, filmed on actual locations from Tudor times, Rylance reaffirms his status among U.S. acting royalty. He memorably creates a figure weighted by sorrow and remorse, haunted by the...

‘Wolf Hall: The Mirror & The Light’: What To Expect From Final Chapter Of Masterpiece Period Drama
Image
After a staggering 10-year development process, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light will finally make its way to Masterpiece PBS on Sunday.

The final chapter of the adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s novels brings back Mark Rylance as Thomas Crowell and Damian Lewis as King Henry VII for the six-part series written by Oscar winner Peter Straughan (Conclave) and produced by Colin Callender’s Playground and Company Pictures.

The Tudor drama is set in 1535.

“We begin exactly where we left off with the death of Anne Boleyn, and we follow Cromwell as he continues to rise and rise to unprecedented heights,” Straughan tells Deadline. “There’s an increasing sense throughout the season of the job of keeping more and more plates spinning at the same time chaos is lurking, and in the end, danger is lurking, as well.”

Given limitations on the budget — Wolf Hall director Peter Kosminsky revealed in January that Rylance,...

Burberry creative director Daniel Lee said of the story behind the collection, “Think of them as weekend escapees. It’s that great Friday night exodus from London to the countryside for long rainy walks and to disconnect in the great outdoors. It’s day-trips to grand stately homes.”

Before 'Paradise,' Sarah Shahi Teamed Up With Damian Lewis in This Underrated Procedural
Image
Paradise, the new series by This is Us creator Dan Fogelman, has officially welcomed viewers into its top secret world and introduced the main players behind its dystopian mystery. Sarah Shahi’s Gabriela Torabi doesn't carry a fancy job title or an ominous Secret Service call sign, but she walks a fine line as a grief counselor who holds immense sociopolitical power because she’s privy to everyone’s secrets — an ethical dichotomy if there ever was one. Shahi’s understated performance, simultaneously soothing, astute, and wary, is a stand-out among Paradise's top-notch ensemble, which isn’t new territory for her. Back in 2007, Shahi matched chemistry and wits with her co-star Damian Lewis in a humble detective procedural called Life. An entertaining premise but a ratings flop, Life's, well, lifespan was cut short by NBC after two seasons. However, its memory as a precursor to primetime procedurals with unique...

Mark Rylance Took “Significant” Pay Cut On ‘Wolf Hall’ After Streamers Rejected Series, Says Director
Image
Wolf Hall director Peter Kosminsky has revealed that Mark Rylance took a “significant” pay cut on the Tudor drama after streamers declined to co-produce Season 2 with the BBC.

In written evidence to British lawmakers, Kosminsky said it was only possible to begin production on the Golden Globe-winning series after “the producer, the writer, the director and the leading actor all gave up a significant proportion of their fees.”

Reflecting on the Playground drama, titled Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, he added: “We had shepherded the series through a ten-year development process but, in the end, it was necessary for us to work for very little to get the show made.” PBS boarded the Hilary Mantel series in the U.S.

He said Wolf Hall was indicative of a wider reticence among U.S. streamers to invest in British storytelling. The BBC and others have said that the shrinking...

Inheritance Review: Phoebe Dynevor Rips Across the Globe in a Lean iPhone-Shot Thriller
Image
If it weren’t for the empty adjustable hospital bed in the room, it would seem like Maya’s (Phoebe Dynevor) story is a lot like any other film about 20-somethings living in New York City: she steps out into the night, nicks a bottle of booze from a liquor store and proceeds to take hearty swigs of her purloined goods in public; she dances in a club with the abandon of someone avoiding life’s sobering troubles; she accepts the advances of a stranger. The two end up in bed together, and then, moments later, the stranger is gone. For a brief moment, we’re in the throes of a young woman’s existential journey set in The City That Never Sleeps. This isn’t that type of movie, however; it’s actually an international spy thriller directed by Neil Burger.

For the past nine months leading up to...

What Makes “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” So Unique?
Image
Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is not your average Hollywood story. It’s a blend of history, fantasy, and nostalgia wrapped in an timeless package.

Set in 1969, it immerses you in the world of rising counterculture and a Hollywood at a crossroads. The movie blends real-life people and events, like Sharon Tate, Bruce Lee, and Charles Manson, with made-up characters like Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth.

Lena Dunham, Margaret Qualley, and Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (Credits: Columbia Pictures)

And of course, this is Tarantino we’re talking about, so he doesn’t just stick to the facts—he flips them upside down. Instead of just telling the story as it happened, the director uses his signature style to create something totally unpredictable. This movie stands out because it’s a love letter to Hollywood’s golden era.

Invincible Star Wants To Play The McU's Green Goblin And Pitches An Awesome-Sounding Goblin TV Series
Image
The Green Goblin is, in the eyes of many fans, Spider-Man's greatest enemy. On the big screen, he first took centre stage in 2002's Spider-Man with Willem Dafoe delivering a memorable take on the twisted Norman Osborn.

Chris Cooper briefly played the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and was expected to later transform into an Ultimate-style, monstrous version of the character.

Realising it would be tough to beat what Dafoe did with the Green Goblin, Marvel Studios brought him back for the Multiversal Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor once again stole the show and, in the process, we learned that there's no Norman on Earth-616.

Anything could change after Avengers: Secret Wars and, in an interview with The Direct, Invincible star and Mickey Mouse voice actor Chris Diamantopoulos shared his interest in playing Norman.

"I was born going to Silver Snail comic shop. That's like one of the...

Emmy-Winning Thriller Series Realistically Depicts The Unnecessary Casualties In Counterterrorism That Expert Gives Near Perfect Score
Image
Most counterterrorism movies solely focus on the reality of life for American soldiers. Rather than focusing on the impact of the war on the many civilians living in war-torn countries, they showcase one-off scenes that feature the deaths of key terrorists. If civilians die along the way, they are not necessarily always shown or lingered on. The primary focus is, generally, on the American troops themselves.

Focusing solely on past conflicts can prevent viewers from imagining the more modern reality of warfare

Some movies do buck that trend. Schindler’s List (1993) focused entirely on civilian casualties and victims of the Holocaust, while Grave Of The Fireflies (1988) was a Studio Ghibli movie that depicted the horror of life as a Japanese civilian after World War II. The Chinese-made Men Behind The Sun (1988) also depicted life in China under Japanese occupation and the depraved suffering that the civilians faced. Few blockbuster Hollywood movies or shows,...
