Performed as a teenager with the California-based group "The Players Ring" and made his professional debut in the Civic Light Opera production of "The Chocolate Soldier" at the age of eighteen. Discovered by Gene Kelly in "An American in Paris" and brought to Hollywood, where he performed the solo number "Gotta Dance!" with Kelly in "Singin' in the Rain". Appeared in other films and at one time co-starred opposite Barbara Eden at a show in Las Vegas.
