SNL: The Andy Samberg sketch Lorne Michael hated but didn't take off the air
Image
Not every Saturday Night Live sketch is destined for viral glory, even if Andy Samberg is behind the idea. And that's especially true if Lorne Michaels himself hates it.

The sketch in question is "Lamps" from a 2008 episode hosted by Hugh Laurie. The clip resurfaced recently on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, where Meyers prompted his former SNL colleagues to recall Lamps, a strange sketch involving singing lamps

In the sketch, Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Laurie played lamps that come to life and burst into song once their human owners (Fred Armisen and Michaela Watkins) leave the store. Things take a turn when the lamps are caught mid-serenade and must go to absurd lengths to cover up their sentient secret.

The Toy Story-inspired concept sounds absurd, but not too far off from what SNL audiences would expect from Andy Samberg. But according to former head writer Rob Klein,...

Wealthiest 'House' Stars Revealed, Estimated Net Worth Ranked From Lowest to Highest
Image
Can you believe it’s been over 20 years since House first debuted?!

The award-winning Fox medical drama centered on Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor.

While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a brilliant diagnostician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts afford him widespread respect. An infectious disease specialist, House thrives on the challenge of solving medical puzzles in order to save lives.

Among the cast include stars like Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi.

First premiering in November 2004, the series ran for eight seasons and wrapped in...

‘Friends’ Emily’s Ultimatum Wasn’t About Rachel, It Was About Ross Proving He Actually Loved Her
Image
When Friends first hit our screens in 1994, it wasn’t just coffee that was brewing at Central Perk—drama, laughs, and a whole lotta “we were on a break!” were, too. The world instantly fell for the quirky gang: Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Monica, and Chandler.

But let’s face it—Ross and Rachel were the will-they-won’t-they that kept us on the edge of our couches. From Rachel crashing into their lives in a wedding dress to Ross pining like it’s 1994 forever, these two were endgame… kinda.

So pivot your attention, because we need to talk about that whole Ross/Rachel/Emily mess.

Why Emily from Friends was never the villain we made her out to be David Schwimmer as Ross Geller and Helen Baxendale Emily Waltham in Friends| Credits: NBC

“He said Rachel at the altar!” — and just like that, Ross Geller pulled the ultimate Friends faux pas.

I Rewatched Friends, and It’s Obvious Rachel Was Supposed to End Up with This Roommate of Hers
Image
Friends may have ended in 2004, but the debates? Like Joey’s love for sandwiches—eternal. It’s been thirty years since we met the Central Perk crew, and somehow Friends still hits like Monica’s Thanksgiving turkey—comforting, chaotic, and stuffed with drama. Across 10 seasons, we laughed, cried, and maybe even screamed, “Pivot!” at our own couches. But beyond the jokes and java, one hot debate never went away: Joey and Rachel—yay or no way?

While the cast and creators might’ve been firmly Team Nope, some of us (raises hand proudly) totally shipped Joey and Rachel. Sure, Ross got the nostalgic ending, but did it really lobsters? Because for a brief moment, Joey and Rach? Total vibe.

Let’s just say… if you know, you know. And if you don’t? We were on a break.

Hugh Laurie’s ‘House MD’ Geniusly Turned One of His Patients Into a Medical Anomaly: “See the difference?”
Image
If you ever felt Hugh Laurie’s ingenious show, House M.D., was a medical term-heavy show, you might not be incorrect. Yet, the Fox show revolutionized the scope of medical drama with its lucid description of some of the most critical medical terms. One among them is ‘male pseudo hermaphroditism.’

House M.D., after premiering in 2004, revolved around the daily challenges of Dr. Gregory House (Laurie) along with his subordinates in an episodic manner. While the show followed a fairly simple pattern of a patient coming with a mysterious syndrome before being misdiagnosed by House and his “lackeys.” Later, at the end of the episodes, however, Dr. House, like a true genius, wrapped up the cases after finding the disease.

In one such instance in the second season, S2 Episode 13, titled ‘Skin Deep’, House and his associates traversed the bewildering territory of a medical anomaly. As their supermodel patient grappled with the struggle of gender identity,...

Hugh Laurie, Thandiwe Newton Star in New Thriller 'The Wanted Man'

Before ‘House,’ Hugh Laurie Called Out the Real Problem This ‘Friends’ Character Had in a Minute
Image
Friends—could you be any more iconic? From Central Perk coffee runs to “we were on a break” debates, this Manhattan gang made the world laugh for 10 seasons straight. With cameos like Brad Pitt, Susan Sarandon, and Julia Roberts, the show wasn’t just about laughs. It was a mirror to love, chaos, and questionable fashion.

Now, thanks to streaming, a new gen is bingeing it like it’s 1999. But with fresh eyes come fresh takes. Sure, the legacy is golden, but it’s hard to unsee those awkward storylines and blink-and-you-miss-it gems hidden between the jokes.

Friends still rules, but it’s fun to spot the flaws between the How you doin’s and Pivot!’s.

Why Jennifer Morrison's Dr. Allison Cameron Left House M.D.
Image
Let it never be said "House, M.D." let something as insignificant as facts get in the way of a brain-tickling mystery. For eight seasons, David Shore's Fox TV drama centered around the weekly cases of the titular, misanthropic, prodigious diagnostician and the team of doctors who spent almost as much time begging him to seek therapy for his assorted traumas as they did helping him diagnose his aggrieved patients. The show's actual medical accuracy ranged all over the place on a scale of remarkably correct to flaming garbage, but you know what? It had a damn effective formula, which provided a framework upon which the series' writers could hang all manner of soapy dramatics.

Although they would eventually escalate things to the level of having House drive his car into the home of his colleague turned ex-girlfriend Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), the "House" writing staff started out simpler with a good old-fashioned will-they-or-won't-they.

Why Lisa Edelstein's Dr. Lisa Cuddy Left House M.D.
Image
Be it a sitcom or an hour-long drama, the will-they-or-won't-they relationship struck up between two wildly appealing characters who seem fated to end up in each other's arms is one of the most reliable, ratings-driving plot devices in television. Like Sam Malone and Diane Chambers on "Cheers" and Maddie Hayes and David Addison on "Moonlighting," the chemistry generated by these characters kept viewers tuning in week after week to see if this was the episode where they finally gave into their carnal desires and, predictably, made an even bigger mess of their already messy lives.

This narrative tradition has extended into the 21st century with such notable examples as Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth on "Bones" (they did), Don Draper and Joan Holloway on "Mad Men" (never happened!) and Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David on "NCIS" (they did it offscreen). One will-they-or-won't-they that proved especially tantalizing for medical procedural fans...

'What's My Necklace Made Of?': House, M.D.'s Best Twist Explained
Image
Medical dramas like "M*A*S*H" and "The Pitt" make for incredibly compelling television. Whether cases are seemingly straightforward, and the doctors are just doing their best to treat their patients, or things are a bit more complicated, there's always an element of life-or-death danger and at least a bit of medical mystery. The hit Fox series "House, M.D." took the medical mystery idea a step further, following brilliant-but-troubled diagnostician Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) as he tries to figure out the cause of a different patient's medical maladies each week. Built like a police procedural but with doctors instead of cops, House was Sherlock Holmes with a stethoscope, and that led to some truly incredible plot twists over the show's eight seasons. There was one truly absurd reveal near the end of season 4, however, that absolutely took the cake.

The two-part season finale was one of the most...

‘SNL’ Gets U.K. Spin-Off, Even Though Brits Seem to Hate ‘SNL’
Image
As part of Lorne Michaels’ continuing quest to make his once hip show seem about as edgy as a suburban Arby’s location, he has once again franchised the Saturday Night Live brand for an overseas market.

There have already been a number of authorized international spin-offs of the SNL empire, including Egypt’s Saturday Night Live Arabia and France’s Le Saturday Night Live, which lasted for just one episode back in 2017.

Now it’s been announced that the U.K. will be getting their own “star-studded” version of the late-night sketch show, which will premiere on Sky in 2026. The show will be filmed in London, and Michaels will serve as executive producer, which may or may not involve simply cashing a large check every week.

This news does beg the question: Do British people even like Saturday Night Live?

In recent years, there have been a few instances of Brits complaining about SNL,...

NBC’s comedy institution “Saturday Night Live” (“SNL”) is crossing the pond to launch a British edition in partnership with Sky.

The iconic late-night sketch show, which has been a cornerstone of American pop culture since 1975, will debut “Saturday Night Live U.K.” in 2026, bringing its signature mix of political satire, celebrity impersonations and musical performances to British and Irish audiences.

The London-based version will follow the same live format that has made “SNL” a cultural juggernaut for nearly five decades.

“For over 50 years ‘Saturday Night Live’ has held a unique position in TV and in our collective culture, reflecting and creating the global conversation all under the masterful comedic guidance of Lorne Michaels,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and chief content officer at Sky.

The New Medical Drama Taking Over Netflix Is Perfect For The Pitt Fans
Image
Whether through a soap opera coating ("General Hospital"), the perspective of Hugh Laurie ("House"), or a long-running network procedural ("Grey's Anatomy"), the medical drama has always found tremendous success on television. Look at "ER," which ran for over 15 seasons from the mid '90s to the late 2000s. There's a built-in audience for these kinds of shows in which we come to know the patients that barrel though those hospital doors, in addition to the inner lives of the medical professionals themselves.

With that in mind, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the new Max Original series "The Pitt" has become a phenomenon and one of the most talked about series of the year so far. Even famed horror author Stephen King is raving about the show on social media.

"The Pitt" follows a rotating group of doctors, trainees, and other medical professionals during a chaotic 15 hour...

The show, which airs on Sunday nights on CBS, had 9.58 million viewers during its debut episode following the NFL’s AFC Championship game on Jan. 26. The premiere episode, over five weeks, had 18.7 cross-platform viewers with 7 million watching on Paramount+. The Paramount+ number marks the highest viewership on the streamer for the current television season.

Per Nielsen’s linear data, Watson has just below 6.8 million viewers per episode. Those numbers include DVR playback but not streaming. The renewal comes even though the series has a less-than-stellar 33% Rotten Tomatoes audience score.

Why Kal Penn's Lawrence Kutner Left House M.D.
Image
Warning: This post contains discussions of suicide.

Hugh Laurie's curmudgeonly genius was undoubtedly the main draw of "House M.D." but he'd be nothing without a supporting cast of characters to continuously upset, befuddle, and bewilder. From the very beginning of the hit Fox series, Dr. Gregory House was surrounded by a team of colleagues who were both enamored and perpetually offended by a man who remains one of the greatest detectives in movie and TV history.

Whether it was head of oncology at Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and House's bestie, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard); Dean of Medicine, Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), or House's team of diagnosticians, there were plenty of personalities against which the titular M.D.'s cynicism could clash. Throughout the show's eight seasons, that team of diagnosticians changed somewhat, with new doctors joining the team at various points. At the beginning of season...

Every Disney live-action remake, ranked from worst to first
Image
For the past three decades, Disney has been steadily transforming its library of classic animated movies into live-action features. So it was inevitable that Snow White would join the ranks of the remakes, to be followed by Lilo & Stitch this summer, and Moana next year. There are five other animated remakes currently in development, and at some point, Disney’s going to run out of movies to make twice!

To mark Snow White’s arrival in theaters on Friday, we’ve ranked every Disney live-action remake. There are some caveats, however. This list is limited to the actual remakes, rather than prequels, spinoffs, and sequels. The so-called live-action Lion King is also excluded, since it wasn’t live-action at all. It was just made with some very realistic CGI, and it belongs among animated films rather than in this roundup of live-action Disney remakes. With that in the mind, here...

Keanu Reeves Action Thriller 'Street Kings' Finds Free Streaming Success
Image
Long before he was the dog-loving assassin John Wick, the feeling towards Keanu Reeves from both critics and audiences was less than ideal. While everyone is now fully aware of how breathtaking the actor and action star truly is, this was not always the case, as the response to his largely panned 2008 crime thriller, which has now found success thanks to streaming, demonstrates.

Directed by Training Day and The Beekeeper filmmaker David Ayer, the action thriller Street Kings finds Keanu Reeves in the lead as a grieving cop who turns to violence and alcohol following his wife’s death. Starring Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans, Common, and The Game alongside Reeves, Street Kings is now jumping in and out of the top 10 on the free streaming platform, Tubi, and you can check out the official synopsis for the thriller below.

“Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves), a veteran member of the LAPD,...

After years of being overlooked, Kristen Bell is on the verge of first Primetime Emmy nomination
Image
Some actors win Primetime Emmys like rolling out of bed (like Allison Janney or Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Others are frequently nominated but have shockingly never won (like Steve Carell or Hugh Laurie). Then there are those who devote much of their careers to TV without ever sniffing a nod. Courteney Cox, for instance, was the only member of the core sextet on Friends never to be nominated for the show. Lauren Graham went from Gilmore Girls to Parenthood, but the TV Academy never took notice. And Kristen Bell has been a TV star for more than 20 years on multiple shows that have garnered awards buzz — even major nominations. But the attention has never gone her way. For Bell, her fortunes should finally change with Nobody Wants This.

Bell had a breakthrough year in 2004, with a two-episode arc during the first season of Deadwood and then debuted as the title character on Veronica Mars.

An Acclaimed Will Poulter Miniseries Was Based On An Agatha Christie Novel
Image
When you think of an Agatha Christie whodunnit, specific murder mysteries come to mind. Some stories begin as traditional cases but end with startling revelations, the kind that "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" executes all too well. Then there are the thrilling, challenging titles, like Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express," which presents a huge cast of suspects harboring grudges within a kinetic setting. Sometimes, Christie challenges the brilliance of her own heroic figures, such as when detective Hercule Poirot races against time to catch a serial killer in "The ABC Murders." While every whodunnit has a distinct flavor, Christie's strengths as a writer lie in hiding the truth in plain sight and pulling off concluding twists with conviction. One of the more overlooked Christie murder mysteries embodying these strengths best is 1934's "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?," which keeps readers guessing up until the big reveal.

The 15 Best House M.D. Episodes Ranked
Image
Nowadays, Fox's "House M.D." almost feels like a relic of a different time in television history, in which a network show with over 20 episodes a year could still be essentially a prestige concoction, carried by smart, profound writing, heady themes, and ambitious character work, while still conforming enough to a cozy weekly formula to become a ratings hit -- one massive enough to cost Hugh Laurie his role in "Superman Returns," no less.

While some of the show's 177 episodes are so similar as to start blurring into each other in retrospect, many "House" episodes have stood the test of time as first-rate hours of television by any reasonable criteria -- installments in which Dr. Gregory House was not just one of the greatest detectives in TV history, but a catalyst for searching and creative storytelling that used medicine to reflect on the mysteries of the human soul.

Here, we've compiled...

Season 2 of Netflix's flashy legal-spy drama The Recruit has shot to the top of the most-viewed charts following its January 30, 2025, bow. Richest 'House' Cast Members Revealed, Wealthiest Stars Ranked Lowest to Highest Estimated Net Worth
Image
House is officially two decades old!

The medical drama first premiered in November 2004 on Fox, and it went on for eight seasons, before ending in May 2012.

The Emmy-winning series focused on Dr. Gregory House, who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it.

Starring in the show included Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi.

15 Saddest Deaths in House MD
Image
This article discusses topics on suicide.

House MD remains one of the most captivating and compelling medical dramas of all time. The series that introduced the cynical Doctor Gregory House kept audiences engaged with intriguing medical mysteries and "puzzles" that House and his team had to solve before it was too late for the patient. But no matter their intelligence and medical knowledge, House and his team weren't always on time. Sometimes, patients die before the team reaches their diagnosis, and most of these deaths happen in the most heartbreaking scenes of the show.

While many of the patients' deaths in House MD were upsetting, there were a few other deaths from recurring and main characters that made more than one fan shed a tear. House MD knew how to create intricate interpersonal drama that didn't take away from the medical mysteries but still kept audiences engaged with the characters' lives.

10 Wildly Unethical House MD Moments That Should've Ended Dr. House's Career (But Didn't)
Image
House MD broke the mold with its protagonist, Gregory House. While other TV doctors are celebrated for their impeccable bedside manner, House was appreciated for his cruel method of diagnosing rare diseases. As such, patients were not entirely keen on his mannerisms, but he still managed to save their lives.

It's also astounding that Princeton-Plainsboro has allowed House to work for so long. Even though he's a fantastic doctor, he often does more harm than good to get to the bottom of a case. Thus, while Dr. House is a key part of the hospital, his methods are entirely unethical.
