Paramount+ in France has acquired “French Roulette – A Mother’s Ordeal,” Vincent Garenq’s (“Guilty”) limited series set in the 1970s.
Under the deal, Paramount+ will have exclusive first-window rights in France to the series, which is represented internationally by France TV Distribution, and will premiere it on Dec. 1.
Produced by Paris-based banners La Dame de Coeur and Effervescence Fiction, the miniseries is set in the French Riviera and inspired by the true story of Renée Le Roux, a former top model and fierce businesswoman who ran the city’s historical casino and stood alone against the mafia. After her daughter Agnès went missing, Le Roux embarked on a perilous 40-year battle to uncover the truth. Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell died on September 4, 2023, from liver failure. He was 56 years old. Harwell leaves behind his ex-wife Michelle Laroque. The couple’s son Presley died when he was six months old from acute lymphocytic leukemia. Presley was the couple’s only kid.
Harwell never re-married or had more children. He was engaged to Esther Campbell and Harwell’s manager said his fiancée was by his side.
“Steve is resting at home [and] being cared for by his fiancée and hospice care,” his manager Robert Hayes, shared in a statement the night before Harwell died. “Steve’s iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation. Steve loved the fans and loved to perform. Although Steve is here with us still, sadly it will only be for a short time.”

Snd is set to host market premieres for Patrice Leconte’s period detective film “Maigret,” as well as high concept comedies “Employee of the Month” and “The Bodins” at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, a showcase of French content hosted this week in Paris.
“Maigret,” based on Georges Simenon’s literary masterpiece, will star Gérard Depardieu (“Cyrano de Bergerac”) as detective Maigret, who investigates the death of a young girl in 1953. During his inquiry, Maigret crosses paths with Betty, a young offender who reminds him of the dead girl. The movie will be released by Snd on April 6.

The French update is being directed by veteran French actress, director and comedian Michèle Laroque (Ma Vie En Rose) who will also star alongside well-known French faces Thierry Lhermitte (La Dîner De Cons), Isabelle Nanty (Amelie) and Jean-Hugues Anglade (Betty Blue) as well as Jeanne Balibar (Les Misérables) and Patrick Timsit (Le Cousin).

Paris-based Other Angle has boarded sales on dramatic comedy Chouquette, the directorial debut of veteran producer Patrick Godeau who is in Cannes this year with Un Certain Regard opener Barbara.
“I’ve wanted to direct a film since I was 14-years-old but ended up working in every other aspect of cinema,” explains veteran producer Godeau, whose recent credits also include Camping 3 and The Lady In The Car With Glasses And A Gun.
“I’m the sort of producer who likes to develop a project from scratch, bringing in the various elements of screen-writer and director myself… I was in the middle of following the same process for Chouquette when my partner said, ‘Why don’t you direct it yourself?’” he said.

NEW YORK -- Matthew Modine and French film actress Michele Laroque will star in Eddie O'Flaherty's indie romantic comedy The Neighbor, now shooting in Los Angeles.
Modine plays Jeff, a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown after his business heads into dire straits and his daughter (Gina Mantegna) tells him that his ex-wife Meredith Scott Lynn) is marrying his former best friend (David Youse). When Christine (Laroque), a high-powered real estate developer, moves into the condo below Jeff with the misunderstanding that he'll be moving out for her renovation, a battle of wills ensues that threatens to turn romantic. Complicating matters are Christine's uptight fiance (Ed Quinn) and unpleasant boss (Richard Kind).
Karen S. Shapiro, producer of the award-winning African AIDS drama Beat the Drum, is teaming with partner Michel Rampal to produce the film.
