Review: See For Me Sets the Bar for This Year’s Thrills
Image
In 1967, Audrey Hepburn was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Wait Until Dark, a film about a blind woman who becomes the target of three con-men. Due to the character’s impairment, Terence Young’s film – ranked among AFI’s best thrills – becomes a much more anxiety-inducing experience than most thrillers. But what if the star was actually visually impaired? Something not thought of or considered at that time, but Randall Okita’s See for Me, written by Adam Yorke and Tommy Gushue, is one of only a handful of films that allow actors with disabilities to shine – in situations only they could fully understand or convey. Wheelchair user Kiera Allen shows immense strength as she attempts to escape the suffocating clutches of a psychotic mother in Run, giving one of the best performances in 2020. Representation like Allen’s on-screen is barrier-breaking because it shows that those with...

IFC Midnight Picks Up U.S. Rights To Home Invasion Thriller ‘See For Me’
Image
Exclusive: IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to Randall Okita’s Tribeca Film Festival title See For Me, the home invasion chiller that pits a blind house-sitter against three experienced thieves.

The film stars visually impaired actor Skyler Davenport alongside Kim Coates, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Pascal Langdale, Joe Pingue, George Tchortov, Laura Vandervoort and Emily Piggford.

Davenport plays blind former skier Sophie, who accepts a last-minute house-sitting job in a secluded mansion. But she awakes in the middle of the night to find the house under invasion by a group of thieves seeking a hidden safe. Her only means of defense is a new app called “See For Me,” which matches her with a volunteer across the country who uses Sophie’s cell phone to see on her behalf. Stubbornly independent, Sophie is reluctant to accept help until she is connected to Kelly, an Army veteran who spends her days playing first-person shooter games.

Killjoys Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Johnny Be Good
Nooooooo! Killjoys did not just kill off our pretty pretty princess. Did it?

Is there a chance (like with Turin), that Pawter survived Delle Seyah's blade? Though Killjoys Season 2 Episode 9 felt like the character's swan song, I'm hoping she will mysteriously resurface in the finale.

I'm in denial, it looks like she's the latest victim of the Johnny Jaqobis curse.

Sadly, I saw Pawter's death coming and even mentioned it several times in my reviews. That said, watching it go down still broke my heart.

Watch Killjoys Season 2 Episode 9 Online

For a fun, light-hearted space romp Killjoys certainly took a turn toward the darker side with this installment. With the true purpose of Jelco's wall revealed and Pawter's tough decision to kill all those Westerlyn's, this wasn't your typical episode.

All the dead bodies in the opening moments threw me for a moment, but you soon realized the writers were playing with time again.

Killjoys Season 2 Episode 8 Review: Full Metal Monk
It feels like the second season is building toward an explosive finale.

All the puzzle pieces are fitting snugly into place, and I'm officially fearing for the lives of some of our favorite characters. Do you think the writers would kill off someone like Alvis or Pawter? Well, Killjoys Season 2 Episode 8 made it seem like no one's safe.

And who the hells is Aneela anyway? I need more answers, guys.

The opening scene of the episode really set the tone for the entire hour. Sure, there were your typical light "Killjoys" moments, but the series went to some dark places here and I'm afraid things are only going to get worse from this point forward.

Dutch confronting Johnny was gut-wrenching. Even though most of us understand his desire to help Pawter and the folks of Old Town, the lying was a tough pill to swallow.

Killjoys Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Wild, Wild Westerley
In typical Killjoys fashion, a ton of stuff went down during this action-packed hour.

However, it's safe to say that Killjoys Season 2 Episode 2 was all about returning home and to the rest of the gang missing from the premiere. As Michelle Lovretta teased in our exclusive interview, "It's the beginning of really emotionally, I think, compelling and classic science fiction type storylines."

I'm still bummed about how Hills went out, but I think Jelco is a brilliant adversary.

Was that mirror bit at the top a hint there are multiple Dutch's out there? Clones? Alvis mentioned that scarbacks hadn't stepped foot on Arkyn for over 200 years. So how did D'av see Dutch killing them in that "very old memory"?

Is it possible Khlyen (via the green-goo) was implanting memories in D'av or is their some truth to what he saw? What the hells is going on, guys? So many cool...

Killjoys Sneak Peek: Mummy's the Word as the Team Reunites With Pawter
Aaron Ashmore, Luke Macfarlane, and Hannah John-Kamen in Killjoys (2015)
It takes a lot to give Pawter Simms the willies, as seen in this exclusive sneak peek from Friday’s Killjoys (Syfy, 9/8c).

In the second episode of Season 2, titled “Wild, Wild Westerly,” the Killjoys make it to Old Town (or what’s left of it) and reconnect with Pawter (Sarah Power), who selfless stayed behind when the bombings began. “It’s very interesting,” Aaron Ashmore, who plays Johnny, tells TVLine, “because Pawter’s family is a part of The Nine, who run the Company and who have now enslaved people inside this wall — and she’s now stuck inside as well.

David Milch Adapts "Heavy Rain"
"Deadwood" creator David Milch has signed on to adapt the noir-style PS3 video game "Heavy Rain" into a feature for Unique Features reports Variety.

Selling well over a million copies since its release, the procedural-themed game has users playing four different characters involved to different extents in the hunt for the Origami Killer, a serial child murderer who drowns his victims several days after he abducts them.

The characters include a divorced father of the most recent abductee who lost his first child in an accident years before and suffers from black outs, a gruff private investigator looking into the killings with the help of a prostitute, a female reporter who becomes close with the father, and a whip-smart FBI agent with a drug habit and hi-tech glasses that produce a virtual computer interface even more elaborate than those seen in "Minority Report".

The game has proven a big hit...

'Heavy Rain' Review - Innovation Can Only Get You So Far
Innovation in video games can be a rare commodity. Every day we see titles pour onto store shelves which are derivative of successful franchises, attempting to copy what the last guy did while making it slightly better to justify another $60 purchase. "Heavy Rain" is not one of those games. While it has roots in classic adventure gaming, it's unlike anything I've ever played. It's also not very good.

The Basics

Remember those "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels you read growing up? "Heavy Rain" is just like those, but with way more choice. You'll control four different characters in an eastern seaboard American city (inspired, the developers tell me, by Philadelphia). The characters are tied together by the actions of a scourge known as The Origami Killer.

The Origami Killer has been kidnapping children and drowning them in rainwater. Your actions as the four characters will determine whether the latest kidnap victim survives.
