Bruce Springsteen Calls ‘Adolescence’ Star Stephen Graham ‘Amazing’ as His Father in ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere’
Image
Recently nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series by the Gotham TV Awards, “Adolescence” star Steven Graham is getting even further praise, and from “The Boss” himself. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast for a recent interview, rock and roll legend Bruce Springsteen offered his appreciation for Graham’s performance in the upcoming biopic “Deliver Us from Nowhere.”

“Stephen Graham plays my father, and he’s amazing,” said Springsteen. He added that he thinks “fans will enjoy it” and that it basically covers the time period during the early 1980s when he was “putting the ‘Nebraska’ record together and other things” he was dealing with at that time in his life and career. Though he has seen the film, he was wary to reveal further details as, much like his own career, he prefers it maintains its mystique.

“I want it to be a surprise.

'Alita: Battle Angel’ Director Drops Exciting Update on Long-Awaited Sequel
Image
It's been six years since Alita: Battle Angel was released in theaters, and it has been a few years since James Cameron announced that a sequel is in the works. While a release date has yet to be revealed, its director, Robert Rodriguez, shared his thoughts on the project's progress.

In an interview with Joe Rogan, Rodriguez emphasized that Alita's journey in the Iron City is far from over and said he wanted to make another movie based on Yukito Kishiro's manga series. The filmmaker has previously stated that he was doubtful that a sequel would come to light due to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. But his mindset changed when he saw more Fox films coming out. If a follow-up feature were to be made, he and Cameron would have enough material to make two more movies.

It's not just Rodriguez who wants an Alita: Battle Angel sequel.

Bruce Springsteen on Jeremy Allen White portraying him in the upcoming film ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’: ‘It was quite emotional’
Image
For Bruce Springsteen, the making of the upcoming biographical film Deliver Me From Nowhere — in which Jeremy Allen White portrays the legendary musician — was more than just a cinematic endeavor. It was an emotional journey.

The 20-time Grammy winner had high praise for White’s performance, calling it “tremendous.”

“Jeremy had his own process and really knew what he was doing and worked very hard to inhabit the character that he was playing. He is tremendous,” Springsteen said.

The movie, from director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), focuses on the recording of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska and is based on Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" by Warren Zanes.

During an FYC event on Monday for his documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the singer revealed what it was like to visit the Deliver Me From Nowhere set.

Who’s The Boss? ‘Road Diary’s Steven Van Zandt And Director Thom Zimny On How Springsteen & Band Turned Latest Tour Into “Hurricane Of Excitement”
Image
Even if you’ve never experienced a live performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, you probably know their shows are the stuff of legend — epic, three-hour music marathons that celebrate the struggles of everyday Americans with joy, communal spirit and, of course, world-class rock and roll. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have arguably set the gold standard for touring, packing arenas since The Boss’ breakthrough album, Born to Run, became a national sensation 50 years ago.

Outside of his poetic lyrics about the human condition, Springsteen — a 20-time Grammy-winner — has been a man of few words. He values his privacy and is most comfortable around familiar faces and people who have earned his trust. This includes longtime collaborators like guitarist Steven Van Zandt, as well as filmmaker Thom Zimny, who chronicles behind-the-scenes prep for his ongoing global tour in Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

What ‘Lost’ Project Is Bruce Springsteen Teasing?
Image
On April Fool’s Day, it’s best to ignore any supposed news you read online that can’t be 100 percent verified. That’s why it may be tempting to disregard a post on Bruce Springsteen’s Instagram page that displays a Thrill Hill Recording log sheet dated April 3 that reads “What Was Lost Has Now Been Found.” But the date suggests this is a tease for an announcement coming in two days, and this doesn’t feel like a lame April Fool’s Day bit.

Disney Near Deal For Hawaii-Set Crime Pic With Scorsese, Dwayne Johnson, DiCaprio & Emily Blunt: The Dish
Image
Exclusive: One of the biggest pic packages is about to land at Disney, Deadline hears.

This is the pitch for a Martin Scorsese-directed drama that would star Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt. The thumbnail description: Imagine Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent character from Goodfellas but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, also based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime on the islands.

Deadline broke the project in February. It is a pricey package given the local and above-the-line star power, and numerous distributors were bidding. This being a decidedly adult film, it fits nicely under the 20th Century banner, home to upcoming films including Deliver Me From Nowhere, the Scott Cooper-directed drama about the existential crisis that led Bruce Springsteen to hole up in a room and generate his seminal Nebraska album. The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White plays The Boss,...

Movie Awards Season 2025: Who’s Coming Back For More?
Image
With movie awards season over, and rumors that Adrian Brody’s Oscar acceptance speech is finally coming to an end, the year 2025 sees a surprising amount of faces coming straight back into the conversation. For one, Zoe Saldaña will be putting her Supporting Actress Oscar to good use on the publicity trail for one of the biggest tentpoles of the year: James Cameron’s Fire and Ash, the third in the Avatar series, in which she reprises her role as Na’vi princess Neytiri.

It doesn’t seem especially likely that lightning will strike twice for Saldaña, but the win will bring extra gravitas to the franchise, which secured four nominations (including Best Picture) last time. Fire and Ash hits cinemas in the middle of December, usually a risky strategy, awards-wise — think Wonka, Nosferatu and even A Complete Unknown — but Cameron has good form on this front, and, presumably for...

‘Awards Magnet’: Our ridiculously early 2026 Oscar predictions
Image
The 97th Academy Awards just ended, but it's never too early to start thinking about next year's Oscars. Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng make their ridiculously early 2026 Oscar predictions.

The 2025 slate is more akin to the 2023 one than last year's with some big names and past Oscar players in the mix. James Cameron will unfurl Avatar: Fire and Ash in December. Leonardo DiCaprio leads Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. The filmmaker has 11 Oscar nominations and zero wins. Will this be the one to break the duck? Chloé Zhao is back with an adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel Hamnet starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. Both actors have another film in play: Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! for the former and Oliver Hermanus' The History of Sound for the latter. The Bride! is one of two Frankenstein films coming out this year, the...

2026 Oscar predictions: 25 incredibly early contenders to know
Image
People like to say, “It’s never too early” to do something, but that’s not always true. For example, it’s too early to predict next year’s Academy Awards before this year’s Academy Awards. But the 2025 Oscars are over, so now it’s time to start making predictions about what films will contend for the Oscars next year.

It’s already looking like the 98th Academy Awards will have a stronger field than the 97th. Blue chip filmmakers are returning from long breaks with exciting casts in tow. Each Safdie brother has their own A24 sports drama. There’s a new Avatar movie. It’s going to be an exciting, unpredictable year.

Here are 25 films likely to contend for 2026 Academy Award nominations in many different categories, not just Best Picture. Some of them are locks, some are long shots, and some will peter out entirely, replaced in...

Image
Now that the gold dust is settling on a long awards season, it is time to look forward to what’s next.

For Kieran Culkin that means heading to Broadway for the most recent staging of Glengarry Glen Ross, while this summer is likely occupied with filming on the third Dune movie for Timothee Chalamet. Elsewhere, awards break-outs like Anora’s Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov have yet to announce their next projects but are getting a lot of interest from studios and directors.

Here’s what the best actor and actress nominees have coming up.

Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown)

Next up for Barbaro is the second season of the Netflix action comedy series Fubar and the Don Winslow film adaptation Crime 101 at Amazon MGM.

Image
The Oscars In Memoriam tribute, set to Mozart’s “Requiem in D Minor,” began with a tribute from Morgan Freeman to his “Unforgiven” and “Under Suspicion” co-star Gene Hackman. Hackman, who was 95, was found dead last week in his Santa Fe home along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa.

“I had the pleasure of working alongside Gene on ‘Unforgiven’ and ‘Under Suspicion.’ I learned he was a generous performer and a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work,” said Freeman. “He received two Oscars. He won the hearts of film lovers all over the world. Gene always said, ‘I don’t think about legacy, I just think people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.'”

‘America’s Lost Band’: Michael Stich-Directed Music Doc Unearthed At PBS
Image
Exclusive: The Remains were a 1960s garage rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, who were given the honor of supporting The Beatles on their final U.S. tour in 1966.

The band is now the subject of a documentary – America’s Lost Band – that will premiere on PBS.

The group formed in 1964 with Barry Tashian, Bill Briggs, Chip Damiani and Vern Miller. They began making a name for themselves, and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Christmas Show in 1965 after signing to Epic Records.

However, the band broke up soon after their three-week jaunt with The Beatles.

They did reform later and America’s Lost Band captures the group on its return to Los Angeles for the first time in 40 years.

The doc sees the band, which toured across Europe in 2006 after recording a new album – Movin’ On in 2002, in a variety of settings: a rehearsal, the Underground Garage radio show, Amoeba Music,...

Jeremy Strong To Star In Peter Morgan Series Revamp Of 1978 Nazi Conspiracy Thriller ‘The Boys From Brazil’
Image
Exclusive: Netflix has set Jeremy Strong to star in The Boys From Brazil, with the Ira Levin Nazi conspiracy novel being adapted as a TV series by Peter Morgan, who will be executive producer along with Suzanne Mackie of Orchid Pictures.

It will be the first series for Strong since Succession, and the first for Morgan since The Crown. It also comes as Strong is in the Best Supporting Actor Oscar race for his turn as Roy Cohn in The Apprentice. It will be run through Netflix and Netflix UK, I hear.

Netflix declined comment.

Levin’s novel was turned into the 1978 hit film directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, and sources tell me Strong will play the role of Lieberman. That is the famous Nazi hunter — Laurence Olivier played the role in the film — who is drawn to investigate a conspiracy spun to him by a young Nazi hunter (played...

‘The Apprentice’ Oscar Nominees Sebastian Stan & Jeremy Strong On Why It’s “More Of A Horror Movie” With “Monstrous Egos”
Image
To say that Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, stars of The Apprentice, have been riding a rollercoaster together would be something of an understatement. From sleepless nights contemplating embodying a young Donald Trump and his mentor Roy Cohn, to a Cannes Film Festival premiere filled with high hopes, a cease and desist from Trump himself, deafening silence from U.S. distributors, a reprieve from Briarcliff Entertainment, a highly combustible release on the eve of the U.S. Presidential election, and now an Oscar nomination each, they might well be suffering from whiplash.

Here, they met with Deadline to discuss how they’ve navigated the ride of the past few months, where they feel the film lives in the public consciousness, and what it means to them to receive Oscar nominations in the current political climate, for playing the President and his early collaborator Cohn.

Melania’s Got A Big Amazon Docu Deal In Latest Example Of Hollywood’s Warm Trump Embrace; Still Room For Jeremy Strong & Sebastian Stan In Oscar Season For Trump’s Least Favorite Film?
Image
Forgive Jeremy Strong if he’s feeling like he and his The Apprentice cohorts are stuck in an extended Twilight Zone episode. While Amazon/MGM is nowhere on the next 007, they’ve locked Melania Trump into a lucrative documentary theatrical/streaming film deal, part of Jeff Bezos’ warm embrace of incoming US President Donald Trump. Trump was long a pariah to Hollywood, but that description is a better fit for how Hollywood has treated The Apprentice, the Ali Abbasi-directed origin story of Trump’s rise under the reptilian wing of Roy Cohn. Amazon and every other film distributor but Briarcliff’s Tom Ortenberg deemed it toxic, either because the corporations behind the distributors feared the repercussions if Trump got elected, while indie distributors feared Trump legal threats that never materialized.

That means that Sebastian Stan — a ’70s version of Trump as an aspiring real estate titan desperate to get...

Lights, Camera, Jersey: Filming for Bruce Springsteen Biopic Underway Down the Shore
Image
Bruce Springsteen wrapped up a productive 2024 on location in New Jersey, which has included spending time on the set of the biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere.

The 20th Century Studios film, about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, stars Jeremy Allen White of The Bear and began filming scenes in November. The production is scheduled for more Jersey location shoots in January, including concert scenes in East Rutherford, on its way to a 2025 release date.

Much of the filming so far has taken place in Asbury Park, with scenes involving Frank’s Deli and Restaurant on Main St., the Stone Pony, the Convention Hall, the Carousel House, and, of course, the beach. The movie has transformed Asbury Park into a 1980s version of itself, with period-appropriate cars parked on Main St. Inside the Carousel House, the production recreated the old merry-go-round, as well as the rides that were iconic on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”

Joel McHale Returns to Host Saturn Awards for Third Time
Joel McHale in Earth to Ned (2020)
Joel McHale, known for his roles in “Community” and “The Bear,” is set to host the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards. This marks McHale’s third consecutive year as host, raising questions about the awards’ ability to attract fresh talent.

The event, organized by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, will take place at The Hilton Universal City Hotel. In an attempt to boost viewership, the ceremony will be live-streamed for free on ElectricNOW and The Roku Channel.

Academy President Robert Holguin and producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus praised McHale’s “clever, edgy humor,” though some critics argue his style may be growing stale. The Academy’s enthusiasm for McHale’s return suggests a reluctance to shake up the formula.

This year’s show is dedicated to the late Jon Landau, producer of blockbusters like “Avatar” and “Titanic.” While Landau’s contributions to cinema are undeniable, the dedication raises...
