Katy Keene's New York fairytale is coming to an abrupt conclusion.
The CW has canceled the Riverdale spinoff after just one season.
The drama's freshman finale aired May 14, and while it seemed the series would be a hit because of its connection to Riverdale, it was not meant to be.
Katy Keene Season 1 averaged 480,000 total viewers and a 0.1 rating among adults.
Out of 16 dramas the network aired this season, it ranked 14th.
It bested In the Dark and Dynasty -- both of which have been picked up for the 2020-21 TV season.
Alarm bells started ringing when The CW opted to hold off on a renewal decision, with network president Mark Pedowitz wanting to wait to assess the digital figures for the series.
The CW has always looked at the bigger picture when it comes to other avenues people use to watch their shows.

The CW has opted not to proceed with a second season of Katy Keene. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind The Riverdale spinoff headlined by Lucy Hale, is planning to explore options for keeping the show going.
The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz in May revealed that the options on the cast, which originally expired June 30, had been extended as the network was mulling their renewal decision. I hear the extension is until July 31, giving Wbtv a window to pursue a new home. Given Katy Keene‘s streaming deal at Wbtv corporate sibling HBO Max, which is currently carrying Season 1, the platform is considered the most realistic option for keeping Katy Keene alive.
Katy Keene was the only current CW series not to get a renewal for next season in January. In a vote of confidence, the network at the time gave the midseason show a 13-script order ahead of its premiere.

The CW is set to make a decision on the future on Katy Keene “in a few weeks” and the network hopes that more streaming numbers will make up for “soft” linear ratings.
The network will take into account streaming figures for the show, which will have all episodes stacked on The CW’s digital platform and will launch on HBO Max at the end of the month, before making a renewal decision.
The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz added that it had extended the options on the cast ahead of a decision.

What is Kevin Keller circa 2025 up to?
Katy Keene Season 1 Episode 10 will lift the lid on that as Casey Cott's character makes his way to the Riverdale spinoff this week.
The CW has dropped the latest trailer, which shows Kevin meeting Katy for the first time, but there's no telling what brings him to New York City.
If you watch Katy Keene online, you know Josie has been struggling to revive the Pussycats, and could use some assistance from Kevin.
The official logline for the episode teases that Josie has a falling out with the Pussycats, and it's not a surprise.
Josie hated the picks from Mr. Cabot, so she went off on her own to revive the band, even admitting that she didn't care about the Ep deal she had.
If Kevin can help her realize that she doesn't need to be bickering with members of the band...

In advance of Katy Keene‘s series premiere next month, the CW has ordered 13 additional scripts of the Riverdale spinoff headlined by Lucy Hale.
The script order joins early renewals for next season of all 13 of the CW’s current scripted series that are not ending this season: All American, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Charmed, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, The Flash, In The Dark, Legacies, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, Roswell, New Mexico and Supergirl.
The additional script order is a strong vote of confidence to Katy Keene. With its pedigree — being spinoff from the CW’s hit drama Riverdale based on the Archie Comics characters, coming from A-list creative auspices, Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and toplined by a CW star, Hale — a Season 2 renewal for Katy Keene was considered likely.
As a midseason entry, its second season order would be for 13 episodes. With a potential writers strike on the horizon,...

Katy Keene will appear on Riverdale after all.
E! News is reporting that Lucy Hale is set to appear on Riverdale's February 5th installment, just one day before the spinoff launches.
How's that for promotion?
This will give fans insight into the world of the spinoff, and more importantly, the connection between Veronica and her New York Bff.
The episode in question finds Veronica visiting her old pal during a trip to New York City for a college interview.
If you watch Riverdale online, you know Veronica lived the high life ahead of her move to Riverdale, so it will be fun to see her in her old stomping grounds.
“Before Katy Keene officially premieres, we all thought it would be super fun to do a crossover that took Veronica to Katy’s world -- New York City -- and established Katy in the Riverdale universe,” executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa...

Katy Keene is making the jump from comic book to TV in 2020.
The new CW drama series is set in the same universe as Riverdale, but the show is nowhere near as dark as its parent series.
Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), and “It Girl” Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City…together.
Katy designs clothes for anyone she can, including her friend and roommate Josie, whose singing talent catches the attention of Alexander Cabot (Lucien Laviscount), a CEO who hopes to reboot the record label division of his father’s corporate empire.

Amid the pomp and A-list names helping Apple unveil its AppleTV+ subscription streaming service Monday, we did learn a bit more about some of the many original series rolling out beginning with the service’s launch in the fall. As part of the sizzle reel that played in the Steve Jobs Theater during Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg’s presentation, several titles flashed across the screen in addition to the first-look images from Apple’s ambitious slate of programming.

Servant: M. Night Shyamalan and British TV writer Tony Basgallop team for what had been known only as an untitled psychological thriller. Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger and Rupert Grint star. Katherine Lanasa has joined the cast of Are You Sleeping, the upcoming Apple thriller drama series starring Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan, in a major recurring role.
She will play a new character that replaces the one previously played by Moon Bloodgood who had been cast as a series regular on the show but exited after four of the eight Season 1 episodes were filmed.
As part of the recasting, the role of Poppy’s right hand was reconceived. Lanasa will play Noa Havilland, Poppy’s (Spencer) producing partner. Bloodgood played Cath Min, Poppy’s (Spencer) best friend; that character is no longer part of the story.

Going to swanky parties should be fun for everyone, right? Yeah, but no, that's not always the case with women.
On an otherwise innocuous installment, when Bonnie, Diana, and Kathleen attended a party in Malibu with a Hollywood crowd, American Woman Season 1 Episode 3 showed that even with their best friends present, women can still feel insecure, competitive, and depressed in their quest for a good time.
At least one of our new friends left with a big smile on her face, though.
It was apparent the night was going to be difficult from the beginning.
Even if the three had been partying through Steve's birthday recently, it was an engagement for which Bonnie was responsible. It's hard to let loose when you're worrying about party guests and food and someone potentially drowning in your pool.

Having starred on Melrose Place, Devious Maids and now the Dynasty reboot, Grant Show seemingly lives for the drama — at least on screen.
“I like a serialized drama where it’s about relationships and how that relationship develops,” the actor, 55, tells People in this week’s issue.
In The CW’s Dynasty, he’ll be reviving the role of Blake Carrington, played by the now-late John Forsythe in the ’80s.
“Blake Carrington is not just your average soap opera character,” Show says. “He’s very complex. He’s a protagonist, but a very flawed protagonist. I was intrigued by that.
