Steve Kloves

Trivia

Steve Kloves

Edit
  • Before he was hired to write the screenplay for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), had never even heard of J.K. Rowling's fantasy series.
  • Says that Hermione Granger is his favorite character to write in the Harry Potter scripts.
  • Did not adapt "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" into a screenplay, but returned to adapt "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.", Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2".
  • Casting the role of Harry Potter was a big challenge; they saw 5000 auditions and none of them felt right. Director Chris Columbus saw Daniel Radcliffe in David Copperfield (1999) and showed it to the casting director and said Radcliffe was the one and that he was amazing. But she said they wouldn't get him because his parents wanted him to focus on his schoolwork and not acting as well as all the attention he'd get. So they interviewed Harry Potter's of different nationalities all over the world and still hadn't found him. She got frustrated with Columbus because he had his heart set on Radcliffe. By sheer coincidence, the producer and Kloves, the screenwriter of the Sorcerer's Stone both went the theatre and in the front row was Radcliffe with his father, so they talked and slowly persuaded him to cast Radcliffe.
  • Attended Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California.
  • According to the DVD extras for Wonder Boys (2000), his last name is pronounced "clovis," not "cloves".
  • Directed one Oscar nominated performance: Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989).
