T-Mobile on Thursday reported fewer new wireless subscribers than Wall Street expected for the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, as intensified competition in the U.S. telecom market pressured customer acquisition.
The company added 495,000 postpaid phone customers during the quarter, missing FactSet estimates of 506,400 additions. This shortfall reflects ongoing challenges in the U.S. telecom sector, where operators are offering aggressive promotions like trade-in deals and long-term price guarantees to attract customers. In response, T-Mobile introduced new plans and a five-year price guarantee earlier this week to remain competitive.
Despite the quarterly miss in net phone additions, the company beat Wall Street expectations with $20.89 billion during Q1, The company raised its 2025 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) guidance to a range of $33.2 billion to $33.7 billion, slightly above its prior projection and aligning with analysts’ average estimate of $33.4 billion, according to Lseg data.

T-Mobile just dialed back its connection to celebrities in the Super Bowl.
The telecommunications giant ran a 60-second commercial in the first quarter during Fox’s broadcast of Super Bowl Lix that was bereft of the marketer’s usual touches. Rather than tap actor Bradley Cooper and his mother, the song-and-dance antics of Zach Braff and Donad Faison, or cameos from John Travolta, Dolly Parton or Jason Momoa, as it has for the past two years, T-Mobile talked up technology.
T-Mobile’s new offering, now rolling out to the public, relies on a partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink to offer satellite connections for so-called “dead zones” across the U.S. The company says the service makes it possible to get text messages now, with pictures, data and voice calls soon to come — even if traditional cell reception is not available in a specific area. T-Mobile says it is pledging up to $1 million to the American Red Cross for the organization’s hurricane relief efforts — but the actual amount donated to the public service charity will depend on the outcome of the World Series.
Starting this week, the wireless phone provider will start donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross for every home run scored during the World Series. The company also says a $10 donation will be made to the American Red Cross when customers text the word “Rally” to 90999 during the campaign, though it wasn’t clear from a news release issued on Friday if the donation is matched by T-Mobile.

The mobile phone provider is bulking up its bundle to make its core phone service more attractive to cost-conscious customers.
Many in the entertainment industry believe that bundles are the future of streaming as consumer costs have risen so quickly and dramatically that the initial value proposition of cutting the cord has almost completely disappeared. Whether or not being able to subscribe to multiple streamers at a discounted rate, or get them free as an enticement for another service will be enough to keep people signed up for as many streaming services as possible is yet to be seen, but mobile phone carrier and internet provide T-Mobile is doing its part to attract customers with an offering of free streaming. On Wednesday, T-Mobile announced that the Disney-owned general entertainment steamer Hulu will join its collection of “on Us” streaming services beginning on Jan. 24.

Hulu is the latest streaming service to be integrated into one of T-Mobile’s mobile plans, joining Netflix and Apple TV+.
Starting Jan. 24, the $8-a-month ad-supported tier of the Disney-owned streaming outlet will be included at no additional charge for new and existing customers on T-Mobile’s Go5GNext subscription tier. Netflix and Apple TV+ are available on other T-Mobile plans, but the Hulu offer is only for those on the top-end Go5GNext plan, which includes unlimited high-speed phone data and other perks.
The wireless provider says the three streaming services, along with free season passes to MLB.TV, add up to $400 in annual benefit. Customers “get the best value and the best entertainment streaming bundle in wireless — just for being customers,” said Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Strategy and Products at T-Mobile.

Many T-Mobile customers will soon be getting a significant streaming perk: free access to Hulu.
The telecom giant says that it is adding complimentary Hulu to its premium plan, called Go5G Next, beginning Jan. 24. The plan includes the ad-supported tier of Hulu, not the ad-free tier.
Still, with content like The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, Futurama and The Kardashians, not to mention the next-day access to network shows like Abbott Elementary, Hulu is a significant addition to T-Mobile’s offering.
Hulu joins Netflix (the advertising tier) and Apple TV+ in being included on the plan, giving customers three of the biggest services in streaming at no extra charge. T-Mobile also gives customers of the plan access to MLB.TV during the MLB season.
The combined value of the services is $35 per month or $400 per year.

In February 1976, the Whitney Museum in New York played host to a highly unusual exhibit: Arnold Schwarzenegger, clad in little more than a tiny pair of brown briefs, posing like a Greek statue on a rotating platform. Around him, some of the Manhattan art scene's most famous critics sat and pontificated.
Called Articulate Muscle: The Male Body In Art, the exhibition included two fellow Mr Universe bodybuilders, Frank Zane and Ed Corney, plus a panel of artists and historians, who discussed the notion of "the body itself as an art medium". The event was inspired and organised by Charles Gaines, a former weight lifter and author of the book Pumping Iron, a candid and in-depth account of bodybuilding with photographs by George Butler.
