  • Helped write the screenplay for The Devil's Own (1997) starring Brad Pitt, but due to numerous disagreements and rewrites, he did not receive a screenwriting credit. Pitt stood by Kamen's original screenplay in a Newsweek article.
  • Received his Ph.D in American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
  • He used his daughters' names as 3 of his female main characters: The Karate Kid (1984) - Ali (daughter Alessandra, whose nickname is Ali) played by Elisabeth Shue; The Karate Kid Part III (1989) - Jessica, played by Robyn Lively; A Walk in the Clouds (1995) - Victoria, played by Aitana Sánchez-Gijón.
  • Uncreditedly rewrote The Punisher (1989) starring Dolph Lundgren, which was Robert Kamen's feature producing debut and last effort in that department.
  • Owns Kamen Estate Wines in Sonoma Valley, California. The vineyard produces limited quantities of high quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah wines.
  • Father was a CPA.
  • Warner Brothers paid him $135,000 for his script adaptation of his novel "Crossings" at the behest of Richard Dreyfus.
  • In 1971 he spent four months on horseback riding through Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountains.
  • Won a track scholarship to New York University.
