Dig your Cursed Elegy Platform Boots out of the closet and light the Hot Topic pyres to signal your fellow Goths and punks because Warner Bros. Animation and Bad Robot are summoning an animated movie based on Emily the Strange. The lovable and stylish character hails from the creative mind of Rob Reger and his Cosmic Debris company. Pamela Ribon is in charge of the screenplay, with Bad Robot producing alongside Reger, who executive produces with Trevor Duke-Mortez.
Emily the Strange began as an eye-catching graphic on skateboards, stickers, and t-shirts before expanding into a multimillion-dollar brand. First, reminding fans of a Gothic version of Mike Judge’ ‘s Daria Morgendorffer, Emily the Strange, the character exploded onto the skater and emo/punk scene through books, comics, games, and more. Emily struck it rich with the My Chemical Romance crowd, partially due to her stylish black, red, and white aesthetic and...

On Los Reyes De La Colina, Peggy Reyes’ poor Ingles provided Latin America with many anuses of amusement.
It should come as no surprise to American animation fans that Mike Judge’s classic cartoon sitcom King of the Hill is a big hit south of the border. After all, The Simpsons may very well have more fans in Central and South America than they do in the United States. For whatever reason, animated shows survive the crossing of translation barriers better than any other genre, and the distinctly Texan humor of King of the Hill tickles the state’s next door neighbor. Through the international power of comedy, Texans and Mexicans can put aside their Alamo-sized differences and enjoy King of the Hill side by side over some monterrrrrey chack.

Fifteen years after what used to be the King of the Hill series finale, Bobby Hill has turned his savant-like knowledge of all things food into a career — but don’t tell Hank about the soot under his son’s fingernails.
When King of the Hill co-creator Greg Daniels announced that he and his creative partner Mike Judge decided to implement a nine-year time jump in the upcoming Hulu reboot of their Texas-sized slice-of-life sitcom, fans had innumerable questions about how this would change the King of the Hill canon. After all, Arlen spent 12 years and 13 seasons frozen in the floating timeline, so a jump-cut to the current day when Hank and Peggy have gray hair and Bobby is a post-pubescent professional chef is going to be a major adjustment for a fandom that expected Bobby to be a 12-year-old meat inspection prodigy forever.

During his time at UTA, he was known for working with comedy multi-hyphenates and expanding them across areas including touring. At 3 Arts, he will do something similar, eyeing opportunities in endorsements, digital, scripted and more as well as touring.
3 Arts represents the likes of Rob McElhenney, Kevin Hart, Maya Rudolph, Mike Judge, Amy Poehler, Tim Dillon, Tina Fey and Bowen Yang.

With the way streaming services handle their most beloved shows, South Park creator Matt Stone almost misses the time when the biggest problem with TV was some nipple-rubbing a-hole at the cable company.
When South Park first premiered on Comedy Central in 1997, Trey Parker and Stone saw plenty of examples out there for how to do an animated, adult-friendly comedy show right. Parker and Stone looked up to the comedy geniuses behind The Simpsons, and they revered Mike Judge for what he managed to do with Beavis and Butt-Head. And, ultimately, the business model behind these shows was simple, effective and easy for Parker and Stone to imitate: pump out roughly 20 solid, inspired and consistently funny episodes per year, keep the ratings high and secure that season extension at the end of it all.

From ‘Curb’ to ‘The Comeback,’ HBO knows comedy.
Writing a list of the top HBO comedy TV shows of all time is hard because it’s subjective. What I think is funny and what you think is funny is different – and we’re both right (except I’m more right). Still, it’s fun to do and I can use the release of the new HBO comedy TV series “The Franchise” as an excuse to do it.
With new episodes dropping on Sunday nights, “The Franchise” follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie as they showcase the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking. Sam Mendes is co-creator, so he’s bound to bring the realism having spent years and years of his life making franchise movies. More importantly – as this list will exemplify - HBO knows comedy. King of the Hill is a big hit in Japan, but its localization in the Land of the Rising Sun has its controversies — and not just because of everything Cotton said about and did to “the Tojos.”
American nerds, cinephiles and animation enthusiasts have long fawned over the many amazing cultural exports from Japan. From samurai movies to sushi, everything that Americans consider stereotypically Japanese has a huge fan base over in the States, but in today’s America, perhaps no corner of Japanese culture is more popular than imported anime and manga. And within the American anime community, there is one enduring debate in which no single Naruto, One Piece or Berserk fan is on the fence — the war between watching these anime with English subtitles with original Japanese audio versus an English dub that erases the work of the original voice actors.

Some King of the Hill fans refuse to believe that Dale Gribble couldn’t see how badly John Redcorn was playing him for a fool, but others aren’t so convinced — Dale knew that “Licensed New Age Healer” was screwing around with his mower.
The suspicious paternity of young Joseph Gribble is one of the oldest jokes in Mike Judge’s masterpiece about a simple Texas town and its simple Texan inhabitants — some more simple than others. Despite Dale being suspicious about everything from the moon landing to a possible connection between the U.S. Postal Service and the Red Cross to the existence of Hawaii, 13 seasons and 259 total episodes of King of the Hill came and went without Rusty Shackleford ever getting wise to the fact that Mrs. Shackleford was shagging her masseuse, and that the only “headache” she needed healing was Dale himself.

It’s been over a decade since Silicon Valley perfectly parodied Big Tech and its many billionaires. Ten years is a long time to wait for an apology if you’re in the Three Comma Club.
When Silicon Valley creator and sitcom savant Mike Judge first set out to satirize the culture surrounding the tech industry, with all its start-ups, buzzwords and eccentric a-hole billionaires, he drew upon his own brief experience working as a computer programmer at a computer graphics card manufacturer in the late 1980s. Judge made a point to hire writers and consultants with contemporary knowledge of tech culture, and when HBO aired the first episode of Silicon Valley in 2014, the story of a ragtag team of brilliant coders struggling to get their company off the ground immediately struck a chord with underappreciated programmers across Northern California.

That Grendel ain’t right.
Out of anyone in the central family of King of the Hill, Hank would probably be the last Hill you’d expect to make a significant contribution to the field of linguistics. Peggy, with her ground-breaking, experimental approach to Spanish pronunciation, would probably be the first pick, followed by Bobby, whose mastery of wordplay and proclivity for puns produce many novel and comical expressions of the English language. Luanne, with her peculiar interpretation of words such as “ignorant,” “Communism” and “Luanne,” would be more than happy to provide an alternate, less informed viewpoint to any linguistics debate. Hank, however, is a man of few words who wields them bluntly and without any frills — much like how Beowulf swung Hrunting back in his day.

Hulu's King of the Hill Reboot Release Gets Frustrating Omission from Disney: When Will It Come Out?
Despite initially being announced in 2022, the King of the Hill revival went without any update at D23.
When it debuted in 1997, King of the Hill, created by Beavis and Butthead’s Mike Judge and producer Greg Daniels, seemed like a balm for those who thought Fox’s other animated comedy, The Simpsons, was too zany and over-the-top.
Hank Hill, the series' star and the Hill Family patriarch, was presented as a simple, grounded Texan man. He loved grilling, his family, and taking care of his lawn, in addition to spending time with his decidedly less simple pals. Hulu will revive King of the Hill, but when might it be released?

Image Source: 20th Century Studios You’d never know it from the number of people who can still quote so many lines from the film, but Office Space is now 25 years old. The film was the first live-action film for writer/director Mike Judge, who’d built up his Hollywood cachet after creating the MTV sensation Beavis & Butt-head and making their first film, Beavis & Butt-head Do America. Judge’s reputation was enough to attract one of TV’s hottest stars at the time, Friends’s Jennifer Aniston, who signed on to what was, at the time, considered a low-budget film. Over the years, we’ve spoken to Aniston about her involvement in Office Space, and she admitted that, at the time, she merely considered it a fun distraction during her down time from “Friends,” but it wound up becoming something much bigger. Sorry to the new Futurama, Rugrats and whatever other beloved animated series is getting a reboot next, but according to cartoon fans, you’ll never beat Beavis and Butt-Head.
When a room full of studio executives decides to revive a beloved and nostalgic franchise that hasn’t been touched in decades, the reboot is simultaneously a safe move from a business standpoint and a creative risk that can ruin all the longstanding goodwill that the suits are about to turn into easy dollar signs. This is especially apparent in animation, wherein the nature of the medium allows showrunners to bring back all the original characters and acting talent that made the show’s first run a success without having to delve into the uncanny valley with awful de-aging technology, while the fanbases for animated shows somehow tend to be the most passionate, opinionated and hostile to change of any internet following.

Is “Batman: The Animated Series” the most beloved, well, animated series of the ’90s to not yet receive a reboot? Warner Animation stablemates “Tiny Toon Adventures” and “Animaniacs” have been revived for streamers; when “King of the Hill” comes back (supposedly in 2025), both of Mike Judge’s most popular shows will have made their return; and “The Simpsons” never actually left the air. Now, on the heels of “X-Men ’97” comes “Batman: Caped Crusader” — not an actual continuation of the Warner-produced, Fox-aired Batman saga, but sort of a long-overdue spiritual successor to what many consider the definitive non-comics portrayal of the character. The strongest connection to the previous show: This one is also spearheaded by Bruce Timm, who cocreated the earlier series and remained a dominant force in its development.
This makes “Caped Crusader” both a major event and a potential disappointment; maybe that’s why it’s airing...

Writer Bill Zehme profiled easy-listening icon Barry Manilow for Rolling Stone in 1990, and he opened his piece with a devastating observation: “When your name is a punchline, you live in hell. Barry Manilow lives in hell.” Manilow’s fans disagreed, of course, but for the rest of us, Zehme tapped into something deeply true about our feelings regarding the adult-contemporary artist. His songs were so epically cringey that his very name came to embody something noxious. His name became a shorthand for cheesy.
Over the years, other artists have had to deal with a similar fate. Sure, they’re wildly popular, but to a contingent of music junkies, their bland, feel-good songs are anathema. For quite a while, one such artist was Michael Bolton. And in 1999, Mike Judge decided to literally make Bolton’s name a punchline in Office Space by giving one of his miserable office-drone characters (played by David Herman) the same name.

Skybound, the comic book and media company founded by The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman, is on the lookout for the next Hayao Miyazaki.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the company is developing a reality competition series that will focus on the search for the next animation visionary. Think America’s Next Top Model or American Idol but for animation geeks and masters.
The venture will be a co-production with Diga Studios, the banner behind unscripted shows such as Selling the Hamptons, The Flipping El Moussas, the magic-oriented Big Trick Energy, and Million Dollar Beach House. The company also produced the Scream TV series, which ran on MTV from 2015-19.
The series is one of the first projects by Skybound’s recently launched unscripted division, which is headed by Brent Jacoby under head of TV Glenn Geller. And it comes after last fall’s acquisition of Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation,...

When it came to adapting his popular tabletop card game into the “Exploding Kittens” 2D animated series (currently streaming on Netflix), Matthew Inman found inspiration in an old girlfriend’s schizophrenic cat, who got so disturbing that a priest was called to exorcise its demons. The premise became the ultimate fight between good and evil when God (Tom Ellis) and the Devil (Sasheer Zamata) are both fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity, trapped inside the bodies of two chubby house cats.
While Godcat is tasked with turning around a dysfunctional family through empathy, Devilcat, his next-door neighbor, stirs up trouble as the destructive anti-Christ. “When I got paired up with [executive producers] Mike Judge and Greg Daniels [of ‘King of the Hill’], it kind of all just came together and it clicked,” Inman told IndieWire.

Even before Covid made a virtue of isolation, experts had already been describing loneliness as an epidemic for years. Now that even the most social among us have had loneliness imposed upon us as a matter of public policy, it seems to be an issue that’s top of mind for TV creators to process through their work. Baby Reindeer revolves around two lonely people who find communion, by chance, over Diet Coke in a neighborhood pub; the disastrous fallout comes later. The titular Mr. & Mrs. Smith find each other in part because they’ve built the kind of lives they can disappear from without causing alarm to friends or loved ones who’d miss them. Ripley’s eponymous protagonist is alone by necessity: the kinds of short cons he’s running for his livelihood depend on his remaining anonymous.

I am not sure how many card or board games like Exploding Kittens have been made into feature films or television series. However, the idea is hardly objectionable, given the success of franchises like Jumanji, Pokemon, and last year’s hysterical Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. You have more hits and Battleship-sized misses.
However, Exploding Kittens is an idea that is a breath of dark, rank air. Executive-produced by great comedy writers such as Greg Daniels (The Office) and Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head), Exploding Kittens is the “what the f*ck” animated series we have been waiting for that reinvigorates the genre. I loved every hilarious, edgy, and subversive moment of it.
That does not even take into account how smart and savvy the series is by the season’s end.

Despite all the cases of the Mondays and crappy copiers that he suffered, a quarter of a century later, it’s time to admit that we’d all be so lucky to be Peter Gibbons.
In 1999, Mike Judge released one of his many masterworks satirizing the doldrums of life in middle-class America. Released just a year before the dot-com bubble burst, Office Space told the story of a software engineer racked with malaise while he goes through the motions at a hilariously un-exaggerated bureaucracy of a business, the dreaded Initech.
In his job, Peter is responsible for updating bank software to prepare for Y2K and submitting Tps reports with cover sheets. And, apparently, the demands of Peter’s position are so severe and excruciating that, 25 years later, so much of America’s white collar workforce still treats Office Space like it’s some kind of corporate Dante’s Inferno.

(And be on the lookout for a re-release of The Seven Samurai,...

Let's face it, The Big Bang Theory is an iconic but dated show. In the year it came out, it did a lot to legitimize geeks and set the stage for the era where everyone loves comics, not just nerds.
But what to watch instead? There are actually quite a few decent shows about geeks and their culture that surpass The Big Bang Theory in every way. Our list is not limited to sitcoms, but if you were a fan of Tbbt and were looking for a good replacement, this list will definitely have it.
1. Con Man, 2015-2017
Con Man is a self-parody by the star of the cult series Firefly, Alan Tudyk. Here he plays the star of another cult sci-fi series Spectrum Wray Nerely, for whom this role remained the main one in his career. Nowadays, Wray only travels to sci-fi conventions, participates in autograph sessions, drinks with...

Anyone who’s ever worked in an office knows what a mind-numbing, soul-sucking experience it can be. And if you haven’t worked in an office, you know someone who has because they’re probably intent on telling you what a depressing bummer it is, day in and day out.
We’ve seen plenty of movies take place in the corporate world, but few of them have ever touched upon the monotony of the experience quite like “Office Space,” Mike Judge’s incisive takedown of cubicles, office managers, and the drudgery of a Nine to Five in a soulless office building. In fact, one needn’t have worked in an office to relate to its characters who search for something meaningful in their boring jobs. Most everyone’s had a job that made them want to slam their head against the wall, and “Office Space” seems dedicated to those of...
