"You run out on every guy you've ever been with!" Decal Releasing has unveiled the trailer for a romantic comedy called Which Brings Me To You, arriving in theaters in January 2024 next month. It's from the same filmmaker who previously made the romcoms Then Came You and The Hating Game, and this one will probably be just like those two. Lucy Hale and Nat Wolff star in this hilarious tale of love and disaster. Two romantic burnouts meet at a wedding and almost hook up in the coatroom before putting the brakes on. They agree to exchange candid confessions about their pasts on the off chance that this might be the real thing. "Trading candid confessions of messy histories and heartbreak" - revisiting their own "past lives" on screen. The film's supporting cast includes John Gallagher Jr., Ward Horton, Genevieve Angelson, Alexander Hodge, Britne Oldford, Marceline Hugot, and Laura Kai Chen.

Exclusive: Karsen Liotta (Blackbird), daughter of the late Ray Liotta, is headlining an anthology indie pic that has been handed a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
Liotta is leading Sunfish (& Other Stories On Green Lake), the debut feature from short film writer-director Sierra Falconer, alongside Marceline Hugot (Julia & Julie) and Wayne Duvall.
The anthology follows the residents of a small town and the lake that binds them together. The four stories weave together themes of belonging, coming of age, and rural lake life, exploring a deeper commentary about community, the collateral damage that ensues from the changes in our lives, and how it can reverberate in relationships and the process of maturation.
Also featuring in Sunfish are Adam Lefevre (Ozark), Dominic Bogart (American Primeval), Emily Hall (Lumina), Maren Heary (She Said), Tenley Kellogg (Faith Under Fire) and Jim Kaplan (Marry Me) in leading roles. Supporting...

Lenny Bruce’s legendary 1961 Carnegie Hall performance served as the backdrop of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Season 4 finale, and set the stage for the show’s titular heroine to finally step into the spotlight in the Prime Video hit’s upcoming fifth and final season.
After four banter-filled, flirty seasons, Lenny (a never-better Luke Kirby) stopped being polite and started getting real with Midge, confronting her on the storied venue’s stage shortly after his show-stopping set and accusing her of committing intentional career sabotage. Director Eduardo Rodriguez has been, at least for me, something of a underrated talent. His first Hollywood movie, Stash House, was an effective action thriller and his follow-up, El Gringo, was a superb film and star-making vehicle for action star Scott Adkins. And – at least for me – his Fright Night sequel-c0me-remake was a decent entry in the franchise and one that I enjoyed more than the Colin Farrell iteration. So when I discovered his latest feature film, You’re Not Alone, was due out this week – after apparently being filmed in 2016 under the title Unwanted – I knew I had to check it out… And I’m glad I did.

Written by Hart and husband and Oscar-nominated La La Land scribe Jordan Horowitz, I’m Your Woman follows Jean (Rachel Brosnahan), a suburban housewife who lives a seemingly easy life supported by her husband Eddie’s (Bill Heck) career as a thief. Life takes a turn for the worst when Eddie betrays his partners, sending Jean and her baby off on a perilous journey under the supervision and safekeeping of Eddie’s old friend Cal (Arinzé Kene).
But even in the company of Cal and his wife Teri (Marsha Stephanie Blake), Jean and her child are far from safe. Teri and Jean team up to get to the bottom of things, taking matters into their own hands.

So, are you a film fan that gets a bit of seasonal movie overload this time of year? You’re thinking, “Enough with the couples making ‘goo-goo’ eyes while whipping up a snowman!” or perhaps, with all that’s happening you can’t get your “jolly” on. In the mood for a gritty action thriller, set in those “down and dirty” 1970s, complete with pistol-packin’ polyester-wearing thugs? Well, Santa’s cinema elves have fashioned a stocking-stuffer just for you. So, is this a follow-up to the crime epic from last year’s holiday season, with more “digitally de-aged” Bobby D and Al P? Nope, it’s not needed this time around, because the lead is one of our newer rising stars, though she’s best known as the lead in a celebrated TV sitcom. Her? This gets a bit more interesting. What happens amidst the usual gangster mayhem when she...

Rachel Brosnahan stars as a young wife and mother who has almost no idea where she’s going next in Amazon’s “I’m Your Woman,” and director Julia Hart excitingly puts the audience in a similarly unpredictable position. It’s a road trip, it’s a story of a woman in trouble, and it’s about fleeing the scene of the crime, but the film refuses to follow the established path audiences might be expecting.
Many contemporary filmmakers shoot for that gritty yet personal sweet spot of 1970s “New Hollywood” honesty and intensity, but few have captured it with the finesse of Hart, who shares screenwriting credit with her husband Jordan Horowitz. A talented filmmaker who’s not being talked about nearly enough — her last two credits were the incisive and humane “Miss Stevens” and the arthouse superhero saga “Fast Color,” both acclaimed yet underseen — Hart has created a film...

In her writing (The Keeping Room) and the bulk of her four co-writer/director credits to date Julia Hart has set out her stall as a storyteller who frames stories that we might more traditionally see from a male point of view through a female protagonist. In this case that story is a 70s set crime thriller about Jean (Rachel Brosnahan), who is forced to go on the run with her baby—or rather, the one her husband Eddie (Bill Heck) brought home a few weeks ago—and Cal (Arinzé Kene), a man she doesn’t know, after Eddie betrays the criminal gang he’s part of.
Most other tellings of this story would, indeed have, revolve around the man. We’d see what Eddie did, first to get the baby and then to upset his crew. We’d know how Cal became the person to find Jean a safe house and to protect her,...

"I just thought you should be prepared for what comes next." Amazon Prime Video has released an official trailer for a 1970s crime thriller titled I'm Your Woman, the latest from acclaimed filmmaker Julia Hart. In this 70s crime film, a woman is forced to go on the run after her husband betrays his partners, sending her and her baby on a dangerous journey. The film draws on signature '70s crime dramas to offer a compelling portrait of the women who are often left at home in those stories. "The primary inspiration for wanting to set in the '70s was to reclaim a bit of that period and that genre for a female protagonist," Hart tells EW. Rachel Brosnahan stars with Marsha Stephanie Blake, Arinzé Kene, James McMenamin, Marceline Hugot, Frankie Faison, & Bill Heck. It's premiering at AFI Fest this month before debuting on Amazon in December. This...

Easter Cove is the sort of quaint port town that dots long stretches of the Northeastern seaboard’s coast, home to a community of fishermen and widows and maybe a drunken fuck-up or three. It’s the sort of small town that can seem cozy or claustrophobic; for Mary Beth Connolly (Homeland‘s Morgan Saylor), it’s definitely the latter. She’s hoping to go to “UMaine” next year for college, something she’s already postponed so she and her sister, Priscilla (Sophie Lowe), could take care of their dying...

The dark underbelly of a small town has provided cinematic fodder for generations. It’s just a lucrative source of storytelling. After a debut last year at the Tribeca Film Festival, another effort joins the fray, starting today, in Blow the Man Down, a surprisingly fun drama that slowly turns the screws. The material may sound serious and even grim, but it actually is handled with such a steady tone that it almost resembles something that the Coen Brothers would do, as opposed to a bleak expose. Amazon Studios has this one and will put it out on their service, so expect it to be one of the higher profile VOD options this weekend. The movie is a mix of drama and mystery, with actually a little bit of comedy thrown in for good measure. It’s set in the small Maine town of Easter Cove, a remote coastal fishing village.

Given the real world pandemic outside of our doors, few of us will be finding relief inside of a multiplex any time soon. But there is one gem on the horizon that you can easily watch from the comfort of your own home. The title? “Blow the Man Down,” a neo-noir set in the isolated fishing town of Easter Cove, Maine, in the dead of winter. It might seem like a snug and cozy burg filled with brawny men and salt of the earth women who regularly start their days and end their nights with a shot of whiskey. But the place is awash in crimes, misdemeanors and more than a few not-so-savory secrets.

There’s a certain tingle that sets in when you realize that a thriller is naturalistic enough not to rely on thriller tricks. It means that you may be denied some of the knee-jerk pleasures audiences have come to expect — the jump scares and violent climaxes. The tradeoff is that it’s a lot easier to place yourself in the main characters’ shoes, to imagine what they’re going through as something that might actually be happening. And that, ironically, just ups the thriller juice.
“Blow the Man Down,” directed by Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy (it’s their first feature), is a drama of murder, sex, and small-town secrets set in Easter Cove, a fishing village in Maine that brings to mind the windswept coastal town of “Manchester by the Sea” — in fact, the place is so tiny and barren and gnarled it makes Manchester by the Sea look like Rome.

The Tribeca Film Festival has announced the full lineup of films for its 18th edition, which includes new films directed by Jared Leto, Christoph Waltz, Antoine Fuqua, Werner Herzog, Abel Ferrera and more.
This year’s slate is also among the most diverse and inclusive that the festival has ever put forward. "What are you after, Shmuel? What is this all about?" Good Deed Ent. has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie dark comedy titled To Dust, the feature directorial debut of Harvard graduate, singer-turned-filmmaker named Shawn Snyder. The film is about a Hasidic cantor's struggle to find religious solace after his wife's untimely death, while secretly obsessing over how her body will decay once buried. He befriends a local community college biology professor, seeking his help to understand what's happening underground. Géza Röhrig stars as Shmuel, along with Matthew Broderick, and the full cast includes Sammy Voit, Bern Cohen, Ben Hammer, Leo Heller, and Marceline Hugot. This film looks very peculiar but also rather unique and quite amusing, especially with Broderick giving this kind of kooky, quirky performance. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Shawn Snyder's To Dust, direct from YouTube:...

Though major studios used to crank them out by the truckload, today the movie musical is a fairly infrequent occurrence — not just because they’re commercially risky but because the genre itself is an inherently ambitious undertaking. Ranging from “Once” to Damien Chazelle’s pre-“La La Land” romance “Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench,” there have been some moderately successful attempts at making indie musicals on a micro-budget, but the question still lingers of whether audiences are willing to accept a modern movie in which people sing out their emotions.
In a risky departure from a résumé otherwise dominated by broad comedy, Josh Klausner gives it a stab with “Wanderland.” Different though it may be from his 1999 debut “The 4th Floor” — a quasi-horror thriller with surreal touches — this oddball effort is more an exercise in low-key quirkiness set in a slightly alternative universe where everything but our protagonist is a little “off.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the Netflix limited series, “Godless.” For a spoiler-free review, please click here.]
All in all, “Godless” is a relatively straightforward western — and proud of it. Scott Frank’s limited series wears its emotions on its dirty, tattered sleeve, and the nearly feature-length finale wraps things up in a way that’s satisfying in the specifics more so than any big surprises.
Genre staples are met almost as though they’re being checked off a list. There’s a betrayal. There’s a massacre outside of town. There’s a massive shootout in town. There’s a quickdraw duel between good and evil. There are deaths. There are goodbyes. There’s hope.
In comforting fashion, Frank’s western abides by the formulas and format of the classics and draws to mind the great miniseries of yesteryear (namely, “Lonesome Dove”). But what elevates “Godless” beyond imitation are its subtle yet strong modern touches.

Even after Season 1, it was clear “The Detour” was a deceptive title. Though Nate Parker’s seemingly impulsive but truly diabolical decision to drive (rather than fly) the family from Syracuse, New York to Florida pushed the exceedingly wild story forward, the altered route wasn’t really the focus of a family comedy unraveling more mysteries than most soap operas. Week after week as the Parkers made their lengthy journey south, and new secrets were unveiled about Nate (Jason Jones), Robin (Natalie Zea), and their two kids, Delilah (Ashley Gerasimovich) and Jared (Liam Carroll).
But the titular detour wasn’t the road trip itself, nor was it what was uncovered because of it. “The Detour’s” larger purpose was to take us on a trip out of our comfort zone. The TBS original is built to deconstruct our understanding of family comedies and family dynamics in general. Doing so while...

“30 Rock” was a show rich with odd and diverse sorts; its ensemble included a startingly large number of Academy Award winners/nominees (at least six! And don’t even get us started on the Emmy champs!). This odd collection of characters, in many respects, remain unforgettable even years after the show’s end. Ranking the characters who appeared in three or more episodes wasn’t easy. But by following the ethos established by the show, it also wasn’t hard.

A review of tonight's The Americans coming up just as soon as I drop off Silver Streak on VHS... "None of us are in control, not really. Not ever." -Pastor Tim In case you missed the great news earlier today, FX renewed The Americans for two final seasons, 13 episodes next year, and 10 in 2018 to close things out. It's great that Fields, Weisberg, and company will get to wrap up the story the way that they wanted. But between the departures of Martha, Nina, and Gaad (the latter two fatal), the pressure being created by Paige, Pastor Tim, and Alice all being in on some stage of the secret, and the progress of Stan and Aderholt's investigations, there's been such a whiff of near-finality to things that it sure seemed like next year would make sense as the end. But the showrunners have had a long time to decide how much more runway they needed,...

That’s it. I quit. No more.
For weeks, I’ve stuck it out with The Leftovers, which many critics (including me) have described as one of the bleakest, most brutal, most depressing dramas on television. But it wasn’t until Sunday’s episode, “Gladys,” that I decided I’d had enough. I refuse to watch another minute of this show.
It wasn’t just that a woman (the Gladys of the title, played by Marceline Hugot) got stoned to death in the episode. I’ve seen worse on my all-time favorite show, Breaking Bad. What I objected to wasn’t the violence.

Would Damon Lindelof be a member of the Guilty Remnant? Based on “Gladys,” the misery-loving latest episode of his series The Leftovers, I’d have to say yes. But what is he trying to tell us? That’s as unclear as the motivations of the show’s actual Gr members. The Leftovers quickly reached a point of diminishing returns after its enigmatic and atmosphere-heavy pilot, and I know I wouldn’t still be watching if I didn’t have to review the show week after week. And after watching “Gladys,” I have to question whether The Leftovers actually has any purpose other than depressing the hell out of its viewers. The show’s big mystery may never be answered, its characters are all frustrating a-holes and its bleakness appears to be the main attraction. And I’m feeling more than a little fed up with it all.

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I listen to a little Hall & Oates... "But there can't be any doubt, Laurie. Because doubt is fire. And fire is gonna burn you up, until you are but ash." -Patti Episode 3 of "The Leftovers" was the one most critics cited as the moment where they went all-in with the show, and the reaction from many of you suggested the same. Doing a single-pov story every week — especially one with as narrow a focus as "Two Boats and a Helicopter" — isn't an easy thing to pull off, nor does it seem like what Lindelof and Perrotta want to do, given the size and scope of the broken world they're depicting. But "Gladys" does a very effective job of splitting the difference between the tunnel vision of episode 3 and the broader ensemble pieces we've gotten in the other installments.

Loyalty is a bond that can be stronger than blood ties, but creating that connection requires a careful balance of trust and vulnerability to show that you can be both sensitive and stoic to the needs of someone else. But loyalty can also be dangerous, and that becomes clear in "The Leftovers' " fifth episode "Gladys," where we witness in rather chilling fashion how and why the Guilty Remnant stay so devoted to their cause even in the wake of horrific acts. Indeed, viewers were likely jolted by the shockingly violent cold open of the episode. Following the GRs' cruel Christmas act at the close of "B.J. And The A.C.," the already fraught relationship between the group and the citizens of Mapleton has clearly reached a tipping point. While waiting outside a gas station for a fellow Gr member who had gone to use the bathroom, the bespectacled...

Ahead of 30 Rock's final season we look at the greatest comedy appearances, from Cher to Noel Fielding. Anyone we've missed?
It's a show known for its great guest star appearances. There are the top-billing megastars who reveal another side to themselves on the show – Oprah as Liz Lemon's exaggerated, hallucinatory 'Opraaaah', Jennifer Aniston's intensely obsessive Claire, Carrie Fisher's washed up writer Rosemary and Liz's very own Ghost Of Christmas Future. The repeat-appearance kooks – Will Arnett's Devon Banks and Marceline Hugot's Kathy Geiss – and the one-off show stealers (Wayne Brady as Liz's dull date). And yet somehow 30 Rock has a way of not making its guest stars seem perfunctory or like window dressing.
So the excitement surrounding the guest-star list for 30 Rock's final season, which begins airing in the Us at the beginning of next month, is understandable. Leaks suggest it might include Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston...
