If you don't know about the Long Island-based B-movie studio Troma, it's time you learned. Founded by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz in 1974, Troma began its life producing raunchy sex comedies like "The First Turn-On!," "Squeeze Play!," and "Waitress!" Kaufman and Herz would hit the big time in 1984 with the release of their film "The Toxic Avenger," which marked a turning point for the company. After the success of "Toxic Avenger," a twisted, low-budget superhero movie (with a soon-to-be-released remake!), the studio would skew more heavily toward horror-comedies, gore films, and splatstick humor. As most Troma fans know, The Toxic Avenger Part II and The Toxic Avenger Part III were originally written and shot as one movie, but directors Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz ended up with so much footage that they broke it up into two installments.

36 years years later, the filmmakers’ initial vision for the sequel has been reconstructed under its original title, Mr. Melvin.

Andrew L. Miller, Kaufman’s assistant, and Adam Peltier, star of Troma’s upcoming film The Power of Positive Murder, unearthed the original script and edited footage from the two films together as originally intended.

Toxie actor Ron Fazio provided some new voiceover for Mr. Melvin. He stars alongside Phoebe Legere, John Altamura, Rick Collins, John Altamura, Rikiya Yasuoka, and Lisa Gaye.

A brand-new The Toxic Avenger preview image spotlighting the titular hero has arrived. Following the reboot film's 2023 Fantastic Fest premiere, Cineverse announced its wide release in theaters for August 2025.

Collider unveiled the new look at The Toxic Avenger that reveals Toxie trying to keep a low profile. In the film, Winston (Peter Dinklage), a down-on-his-luck janitor, is transformed into the radioactive hero Toxie (Luisa Guerreiro) after a freak accident. Armed with his mop, he battles freaks, gangsters, and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son Wade, played by the acclaimed Jacob Tremblay. Exclusive: Patrick Wachsberger and Legendary Entertainment’s nascent sales and production joint venture 193 has set its first international sales title in the shape of Peter Dinklage starrer The Toxic Avenger, which it will be screening and shopping at next month’s Cannes market.

Oscar winner Wachsberger, the former Lionsgate Motion Picture co-chairman, didn’t have to look far for his first project. Macon Blair’s completed film is a Legendary production.

New images have revealed the best look yet at the new Toxie. Starring Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, the reboot of The Toxic Avenger is coming to theaters on Aug. 29, 2025.

Get ready for another serving of musical horror comedy, as Troma is cooking up a sequel to Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.

Poultrygeist 2: The Henpire Strikes Back will be written and directed by Mercedes the Muse, who helmed Troma’s upcoming Rise of the Super Tromettes.

Andrew L. Miller is producing, with Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman (who directed the first Poultrygeist) and Michael Herz serving as executive producers.

No plot details have been revealed, but the sequel promises “more guts, more blood, and more poultry.” If you’ve seen the 2016 original, you know that’s no easy feat.

At first glance, The Toxic Avenger doesn't seem like the Saturday morning cartoon material. The cult classic superhero film from Troma is known for its high levels of gore, making for a campy and crass low-budget affair that's also one of the creepier movies of its genre. However, in 1991, Toxie managed to clean up his act with a short-lived animated series titled Toxic Crusaders hailing from Troma co-founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz. Now, the B movie production company is bringing the band back together with a digitally remastered Blu-ray containing all 13 episodes of Toxie and friends' adventures. It's set to release on December 10.

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, it wasn’t unusual for violent movies like RoboCop and Rambo to be turned into Saturday morning cartoons for kids, but The Toxic Avenger still seemed like an unlikely candidate — until the 1984 low-budget gorefest was cleaned up for “Toxic Crusaders” in 1991.

An environmentally-conscious superhero cartoon in the vein of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Captain Planet,” the show ran for one season. All 13 episodes are coming to Blu-ray from Troma on December 10.

While originally animated on 16mm film, “Toxic Crusaders” was mastered on videotape for broadcast, including all digital effects and transitions. To present the series in the best possible quality, Troma has used advanced AI models to upscale the standard definition masters in high definition to capture the original broadcast’s intended experience.

Here’s the announcement: Starting in February, Troma Now will premiere 4K restorations and new transfers from the original materials of a number of Troma Classics on the 15th of every month. On February 15, the new 4K restoration of The Toxic Avenger will be available to stream exclusively on Troma Now.

A new red band trailer for The Toxic Avenger has been released, as a reboot of the cult classic black comedy film directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman. "Similar to the original Toxic Avenger, he's singularly unqualified to be a hero.
