Ted Danson won’t give away many details about the upcoming season 2 of A Man on the Inside, but he’s happy to share how thrilled he is to once again work alongside his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen.

“I’ll tell you how excited we both are. We are literally giggling when we get to work together again,” Danson tells Gold Derby. “The material is so sweet and funny. I shouldn’t say too much more than that but what a joy.”

The series, which has begun production on it's second season, centers on Charles (Danson), a retired man who is grieving the loss of his wife when he answers a mysterious ad and ends up working undercover in a retirement home. Netflix's A Man on the Insidehas gained a woman on the inside, as Mary Steenburgen (pictured below) has officially joined the cast of Season 2 in a key role, starring opposite her real-life husband, Ted Danson, who is reprising his role as Charles Nieuwendyk, a retiree-turned-private-investigator. According to Variety, Steenburgen will play a character called Mona Margadoff, described as "a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve," as he gets up to even more sleuthing shenanigans in the sophomore season of the critically acclaimed comedy series.

This is not the first time that Danson and Steenburgen have shared the screen together. Per the streaming giant, Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve. Deadline further revealed that the series will take an anthology format.

Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen is joining her husband, Ted Danson, on season two of Netflix’s A Man on the Inside. Season one held a spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list for five weeks and earned a second season order a month after its November 2024 premiere.

According to the streamer, Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, “a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve.” Ted Danson reprises his role as Charles. Netflix hasn’t announced the full cast of the upcoming season or a target premiere date.

The season one cast included Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephanie Beatriz, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sally Struthers, Margaret Avery, John Getz, and Susan Ruttan. With it time to show his hand, Josh Brolin has not yet revealed if he was being hyperbolic or if his time as Gurney Halleck has ended. Brolin has had a storied career on the big screen and may not be quite ready to throw in the towel yet, but we will have to see if he makes any comments on his social media accounts in the coming days.

As Netflix enters the month of February, a slew of films will be leaving the platform. Many of them are must-watch movies, which means subscribers will definitely want to check them out before it’s too late. The story of Frank Herbert's original "Dune" is ultra-dense. Though it had a relatively simple coming-of-age and rise-to-power plot involving Paul Atreides becoming a leader and a revolutionary, it is in the sociopolitical context of the vast worldbuilding that surrounds that story that the brilliance of "Dune" is found.

What makes the story and world of "Dune" special are the small details, like how the Emperor of the Known Universe holds very little real power and is only in charge because of his near-invincible army (or how a simple ecologist who slowly introduced desert animals and greenery to Arrakis became such a holy figure that he facilitated Paul's rise as the leader of the Fremen). All this makes "Dune" a truly influential and beloved sci-fi classic.

This is to say, there was no way for any adaptation of the books to fully encompass everything Herbert covered — except maybe the rather faithful 2000 "Dune" TV mini-series.

Clever thrillers like Anora and The Substance showcased some exceptional breakthrough performances from the likes of Mikey Madison and Margaret Qualley.

With a sprinkling of romantic comedy, beloved family animation, and a highly anticipated musical, there have been movies to cater to any tastes. The way viewers take in their films is also something that can add more to the experience. Sitting in the comfort of one's own home watching a streaming release can be a great experience. Others prefer to venture out to see the effect on the big screen, surrounded by other film buffs who share their passion. There's...

The challenge of crafting a list of the best performances of the year never lies in thinking of people who deserve to be on it. It’s always, always in agonizing over which ones to include in the limited slots we have.

That is why, as usual, we’ve restricted ourselves here to shows that aren’t on either of our individual top 10 lists or on our list of favorite episodes (and why we further kept our ourselves to only one actor per show). It’s not that we don’t know how good Andrew Scott on Ripley or Jessica Gunning on Baby Reindeer or the entire casts of Shogun and Somebody Somewhere and My Brilliant Friend are. We do! We just really want to spread the love when we can, given the sheer amount of excellence on display during the past 12 months.

Comedy series and movies come in bundles every holiday season. Most of those bring some instant fun (or not), and only a few make an impact that lasts.

It seems though that the new series A Man on the Inside, created by television producer, writer, director, and actor Mike Schur with series stalwart Ted Danson has hit all the right spots with the viewers, as it hit Netflix’ most popular English TV list, remaining in the Top 10 for three weeks since its release.

The series also got a ‘certified fresh’ mark from Rotten Tomatoes and, even more importantly, a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Charles, the series' main character. No wonder then that Netflix decided to, practically right after its release, extend the series for another season.

Season one of Netflix’s A Man on the Inside ended by setting the story up for a possible second season. Today, the streamer confirmed the critically acclaimed comedy has been renewed and will return for season two in 2025.

Created by Mike Schur, the series premiered on November 21, 2024 and immediately entered the Top 10 list of Netflix’s English TV series. A Man on the Inside season one also earned a spot on AFI’s 2024 TV programs of the year list.

The streamer has ordered a second season of A Man on the Inside, a comedy series starring Danson as Charles, a widower who, in the first season, goes to work for a private investigator (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) to investigate thefts in a retirement community. The renewal comes a few weeks after A Man on the Inside’s Nov. 21 premiere and on the heels of Danson earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. On Monday, Netflix announced a Season 2 renewal for “A Man on the Inside,” its Golden Globe-nominated comedy series from creator Michael Schur and star Ted Danson (Emmy winner for “Cheers”).

The series, which premiered in November, tells the story of Charles (Danson), a lonely retiree grieving the death of his beloved wife, who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a private investigator and becomes a mole in a secret investigation into a theft at a San Francisco retirement home. He goes in under false pretenses, but discovers a true community.

“A Man on the Inside” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.

Netflix made the announcement on their official X account on Monday. The second season of the show is now slated to debut in 2025. The series debuted on Netflix on Nov. 21.

Ted Danson stars in the single-camera comedy, which is based on the Oscar-nominated Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.”

The official series description states, “Retired professor Charles (Danson) feels life has nothing new in store for him. A year after his wife’s passing, he’s become stuck in his routine and grown distant from his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). But when he spies a classified ad from private investigator Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada), he’s inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure. Charles’ mission: to go undercover inside the Pacific View Retirement Home in San Francisco and solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom.
