Alex Winter’s ‘Freaked’ 4K Restoration in the Works from Drafthouse Films & Umbrella Entertainment
Image
Long out-of-print cult classic Freaked is receiving a 4K restoration with Dolby Vision from Drafthouse Films and Umbrella Entertainment.

Collider reveals that the 1993 black comedy will be available on digital platforms as well as special edition 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray this fall.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure star Alex Winter co-directs with Tom Stern from a script they wrote with Tim Burns (An American Werewolf in Paris).

New special features will include never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage, restored deleted scenes, and interviews with Winter, Stern, Burns, The Butthole Surfers guitarist Paul Leary, production designer Catherine Hardwicke, cinematographer Jamie Thompson, special effects artist Bill Corso, and more.

“We are thrilled to see Freaked roaring back to life with Drafthouse Films and Umbrella, in a glorious, full restoration,” said Winter. “It’s been a long time coming and well worth the wait!”

“Freaked holds a special place in the hearts of the film nerds at Drafthouse Films,...

Anna Kendrick Spills the Real Reason Her Twilight Character Was Never Supposed to Be Funny: “I feel like I had…”
Image
Anna Kendrick has played many iconic characters over the years. From starring in the Pitch Perfect films to working alongside Blake Lively in A Simple Favor and most recently starring in the critically acclaimed masterpiece that was Woman of the Hour, she has done it all. While all of these roles have gotten her great fame and acclaim, they cannot top the iconic impact that she had in The Twilight Saga.

Embodying the awkwardness of the franchise as a whole, her acting was something else entirely in these films. Jessica Stanley’s character stands as one of the most memorable characters from the series, and the reasons are endless. While on the surface, she is meant to be a traditional “mean girl’, Kendrick’s acting turned her into something so much more.

However, it would seem that the original intention of her character wasn’t to make her this complicatedly funny.

Alex Winter and Tom Stern's Cult Classic Creature Feature 'Freaked' Re-Emerges With 4K Restoration From Drafthouse Films [Exclusive]
Image
Just four years after he and Keanu Reevesbecame '80s icons with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Alex Winterteamed up with frequent collaborator Tom Stern to write and direct a '90s cult classic — Freaked. Winter worked both in front of and behind the camera as co-director for the project, creating a darkly-comedic creature feature packed with gnarly and imaginative practical effects, gross-out humor aplenty, and a colorful aesthetic that stands out from its contemporaries. The bizarre B-movie mash-up evoking everything from Pee-wee's Playhouse to H.P. Lovecraft landed with a critical thud in 1993, but time has earned it new life with cinephiles, as evident by its 66% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Collider is excited to share that the film is finally getting the 4K restoration it needed courtesy of Drafthouse Films.

Freaked is coming home this fall with a release on digital platforms as well as a special edition...

Fans are Returning to Forks as 'The Twilight Saga' Rises on Netflix Charts
Image
There are two kinds of people in this world, the ones who love The Twilight Saga and the ones who don’t. Whether you like it or not the YA movies starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner are some of the best vampire genre has to offer, and it seems like ever since the complete franchise has landed on Netflix, fans are revisiting Forks quite often.

‘New Moon’ Director Chris Weitz on How ‘Twilight’ Fandom Inspired ‘Murderbot’
Image
Chris Weitz knows a thing or two about fandemonium. He directed The Twilight Saga: New Moon after the first Twilight movie, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, was a runaway box office hit and proved there was a ravenous base of Stephenie Meyer readers just bursting to see her stories adapted to the big screen. At the time, Twilight was intensely beloved by its fans and reviled by those who were very vocal about the fact that they didn’t get the appeal of vampires that sparkle. The “Twi-hards,” as the fan community would commonly become known, didn’t let any of that nay-saying stop them from being proud fans of the franchise. So when it came to crafting the titular character (played by Alexander Skarsgård) in his new Apple TV+ series Murderbot with brother Paul Weitz, he borrowed a bit from his experience ...

The Canceled MTV Show That Was Based On A Beloved R. L. Stine Novel
Image
If you were a '90s kid, or even just happened to be alive during the decade, chances are you are very familiar with R. L. Stine. An entire generation grew up on his "Goosebumps" books, and an entire generation of parents bought them for their kids. But while the "Goosebumps" novels and the Ytv television adaptation became a cultural phenomenon and shaped kids' early understanding of horror, that was far from Stine's only contribution to the genre overall.

The writer pumped out a frankly unbelievable amount of books aimed at multiple demographics, to the extent that Stephen King himself would go as wild as Jack Torrance were he to compare bibliographies. PBS put the total number of Stine novels at more than 350 in 2024, but other tallies reveal more than 500 books bearing the author's name. It's tricky because, despite his protestations, Stine has been accused of using ghostwriters, most notably...

The 20 Best Vampire Movies
Image
As a bloodsucking Transylvanian Count once sort of said, "Listen to them, genre filmmakers of the night. What vampire movies they make!" And they sure do make some pretty great vampire movies. Whether it's a grandiose sweeping romance made by the director of The Godfather to honour the most famous vampire book ever made, a hundred-plus-year-old work of pure German Expressionist terror, or a Kiwi comic caper that gives the undead the mockumentary treatment, time and again moviemakers have found new and ever-edifying ways to bring fresh blood to one of genre storytelling's most perennially appealing creatures of the night.

But with such a deep, presumably claret-filled pool of vampire cinema to dive into, we know just how hard it can be to bite the bullet (and/or neck) and whittle down the ever-growing watchlist to the true genre essentials. And so, with that in mind, we here at Empire have drawn our holy water,...

10 Worst Fantasy Movies of All Time, According to Roger Ebert
Image
Fantasy films are some of the most treasured in the history of cinema, with franchises like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars using classic tropes that date back to stories like the King Arthur mythology to entice viewers. The best fantasy movies are the ones that can present larger than life worlds that stand the test of time because they reveal something about the real world that we all live in.

Fantasy films that fall short are often the ones that just use the tropes and trappings of mystical worlds and magical potions to cover up a general lack of interesting characters or engaging story ideas. Film critic Roger Ebert's least favorite movies in the genre are the emptiest of the bunch, which have the most tropes but the least to say.

If You Think Demi Moore Was Snubbed at the Oscars, a 7 Year Old Horror Movie Got Zero Nominations That’s Now Streaming on Netflix
Image
If you ever need proof that the Academy Awards operate in a strange alternate reality, look no further than the 2019 Oscar nominations. That was the year when Toni Collette delivered what can only be described as an acting masterclass in Hereditary and the Academy responded by giving her performance the same level of recognition they’d give a haunted lampshade. None.

Toni Collette in Hereditary | Credits: A24

But why? What did Toni Collette ever do to deserve such neglect? Well, besides giving the most unhinged, bone-chilling, emotionally raw performance of the decade, apparently nothing. That’s exactly the problem, the Oscars have always treated horror movies like the weird cousins they only talk to when absolutely necessary.

Jackson Rathbone’s Childhood Influenced an Iconic Twilight Saga Scene [Exclusive]
Image
The Twilight saga is full of unforgettable moments, but one of its most iconic scenes came in the first movie, when the romance between Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen was just heating up. The scene in question arose when Edward turned up to take Bella on a date, only to be greeted by Charlie Swan, Bella's father, with a shotgun. As it turns out, that moment was actually inspired by Jackson Rathbone’s real-life experiences. While speaking to Collider's Maggie Lovitt at Indiana Comic Con, Rathbone, who played Jasper Hale, revealed that the scene stemmed from a story he told Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke about his own father’s approach to meeting his sisters’ boyfriends.

‘Twilight’s Jackson Rathbone Reveals Cast Members Helped Shape the Movie’s Iconic Soundtrack
Image
The Twilight series, despite receiving generally underwhelming reviews, was enormously popular at the time and the teen romance series by Stephanie Meyer still has a cult following that loves both the books and the movies.

In light of that, the franchise stars Jackson Rathbone, Peter Facinelli, and Ashley Greene were guests at the recently-held Indiana Comic Con, where they were asked about the films and Rathbone revealed a very interesting detail about the movie’s soundtrack or, to be more precise, one of the movie’s iconic songs.

Jackson Rathbone discussed the impact that director Catherine Hardwick had on the movie, praising her direction and firm control of the movie’s production: “I think what really made Twilight become iconic, as you said, is Catherine. And I think really, if anyone else had helmed the first movie, I don’t think we’d be here, to be honest. So I...

Where Was Twilight Filmed? Every Major Location Explained

In 2008, the first "Twilight" movie — based on a novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer — hit theaters, made stars out of the two young leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and became one of the biggest young adult sensations in modern cinematic history. The 35 Strongest Vampires, Officially Ranked
Image
The strongest vampires in fiction go beyond the traditional characteristics of these bloodthirsty creatures: they tend to possess incomparable strength and terrifying secret abilities. While zombies, witches, and other supernatural creatures often share the spotlight, vampires are still a constant presence in pop culture. They're always lurking in the shadows, ready for their next close-up.

Vampires are endlessly flexible creatures that can embody everything from death and destruction to a tortured desire for intimacy and redemption. One thing all vampires from comics, film, TV, and video games have in common is a set of supernatural powers and abilities. These can include mind control, like in the case of Edward Cullen, ever-lasting life, and, of course, super-strength. However, power can come in many forms. Sometimes, vampires' strength comes from their mental fortitude or their ability to fight and overcome vampire hunters.

The Director Of The Brutalist Once Starred In A Brutal Horror Classic
Image
It's become a fun pub trivia act to be able to rattle off the legion of beloved performers who got their start on the big screen by acting in horror movies. It's less common, however, to learn about actors famous for their roles in horror films pivoting to directing and nabbing an Academy Award nomination for Best Director in the process. But that's precisely what happened with Brady Corbet, the director behind one of the frontrunners for Best Picture (at the time of writing) and a film that /Film's Chris Evangelista called "an overwhelming triumph" in his review, "The Brutalist."

Corbet, for those not familiar, made his feature directorial debut in 2015 with "The Childhood of a Leader." Loosely adapted from Jean-Paul Sartre's short story of the same name, the film centers on an American boy living in France with his authoritarian parents during the Treaty of Versailles and explores...

A Vampire Valentine: Re-Evaluating the Spooky Romance of ‘Twilight’
Image
There’s always a risk of ending up on the wrong side of history whenever you jump on a proverbial bandwagon. For instance, Spaghetti Westerns were once considered one of the lowest forms of entertainment, and yet most critics now agree that films like Once Upon a Time in the West are among the best movies ever made. Of course, this kind of change can take a long time, but if there’s one cinematic opinion that I believe is ready to be retired it’s the idea that the Twilight films are irredeemable trash.

Sometimes, some movies aren’t necessarily bad, they’re just not for you. And now that both Pattinson and Stewart have firmly established their careers outside of their young-adult-oriented work, I think this is the perfect time to look back on the original Twilight and discuss how this excessively maligned movie can be a legitimately...

Casting Robert in 'Twilight' - 9 Actors Who Competed With Robert Pattinson (Including 3 Costars & 1 Actor who Thought It was 'Stupid')
Image
The role of Edward Cullen was one of the most coveted in Hollywood when it came time to cast the Twilight movies. Everyone wanted a chance to bring the iconic vampire to life.

Of course, the role went to Robert Pattinson, but he faced some stiff competition. In fact, he very nearly wasn’t selected.

At the time, Robert had already established himself as an emerging talent in Hollywood with his portrayal of Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies. However, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke revealed that there were shocking concerns that could have cost him the role.

Thankfully, the studio saw reason and agreed to cast Robert. He played the lead, sparkling vampire in the blockbuster adaptations of author Stephenie Meyer‘s novels. Of course, he was the right choice. Here’s proof: We recently learned that he is responsible for one of the first movie’s most iconic lines,...

12 Best Movies Like 2003's Thirteen
Image
The 2003 indie drama "Thirteen" was widely acclaimed upon release while elevating the careers of filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke (who was paid just $13 for the job) and actors Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed. "Thirteen" was lauded for its searing, contemporary depiction of the lives of impressionable American teenagers. For those looking for movies tackling similar subject matter and themes, there is no shortage of teen coming-of-age dramas. From triumphs to tragedies, plenty of movies have explored the everyday life of American teenagers, both preceding "Thirteen" and released in the 2003 film's wake.

From dramedies to tonally uncompromising dramas, those pivotal teenage years are ripe for cinematic exploration. Even the comedies on this coming-of-age list don't shy away from the heavier parts of the teenage experience, including illegal drug use, mental health concerns, and teen pregnancy. Simply put, growing up can be a grueling ordeal, and these movies find the heartbreak and humor...

Some of our brightest, biggest filmmaking stars — we’re talking Steven Soderbergh, Richard Linklater, Ava DuVernay, Paul Thomas Anderson, Lulu Wang, Ryan Coogler, Aubrey Plaza, Catherine Hardwicke, Todd Haynes, Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Eggers, the Duplass brothers, Michael B. Jordan, Amy Adams, Elizabeth Olsen, Brie Larson, Lakeith Stanfield, Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy, and many, many more — first rose to acclaim by bringing their work to Sundance.

In 2025, a year that was long-heralded as one all about new discoveries, that tradition only continued. 10 Reasons Fans Still Love The Twilight Saga 13 Years Later
Image
With a remake in the works, The Twilight Saga has had a resurgence like any other in pop culture. It was a huge success in the 2000s and 2010s when it was released, but it also endures well into the 2020s. Endless social media videos and cosplays have continued the legacy of Stephanie Meyer's masterpiece, but what makes it so lovable even today?

Most fans have grown up with the series and lived through Bella's inner turmoil over her forbidden romance with a vampire and then her conflicting feelings for a werewolf. Twilight is no ordinary story, which is why it has transcended generations to become a pop culture phenomenon. Even 13 years later, fans still can't shake off the hold the franchise has on them.

The Movies Have a Great Aesthetic

Robert Pattinson is amused that people still continue to bash the Twilight series to him

Robert Pattinson has earned praise for his work in movies like Good Time and The Lighthouse. He has also been able to don the cape and cowl and become a new Batman for audiences with a separate continuity in Matt Reeves’ incarnation of The Batman. Fans have been waiting for a follow-up and Reeves confirms that they are filming this year and are aiming for a 2027 release, “I can tell you that we’re…shooting this year and that we’re excited about it. I can’t really tell you anything about it except that we’re really excited about it.”

Additionally, Pattinson can be seen in the upcoming Mickey 17 by Parasite director Bong Joon Ho. However, as the actor speaks with GQ Spain, he reveals that he’s still being associated with his breakout teen vampire drama Twilight. Robert Pattinson Says People Still Tell Him ‘Twilight’ Ruined the Vampire Genre: ‘Are You Still Stuck on That S—? … That Happened Almost 20 Years Ago’
Image
Robert Pattinson laughed off any continued hatred against the “Twilight” franchise in a translated interview for GQ Spain. The actor debuted as the vampire Edward Cullen in 2008’s “Twilight,” which launched a $3.3 billion movie franchise across five movies and turned Pattinson and co-star Kristen Stewart into global superstars.

“I love that people keep telling me, ‘Man, ‘Twilight’ ruined the vampire genre,'” Pattinson said in the interview. “Are you still stuck on that shit? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”

When Pattinson last spoke to GQ in 2022, he revealed that he wanted the original “Twilight” movie to be as edgy and emo as possible. He was 21 years old at the time and feeling young adult angst, but his vision for the movie didn’t sit right with the studio.

“I wanted to make it as arty as possible,” Pattinson said at the time.

Robert Pattinson Calls Out "Crazy" 'Twilight' Hate 17 Years Later
Image
Within pop culture, trends emerge where it becomes cool to hate things. While targets like superhero movies and Coldplay move in and out of the crosshairs, the Twilight movies are a permanent fixture of abuse from cinephiles. But, the franchise's star, Robert Pattinson, says enough is enough, and that fans need to move on.

Pattinson played Edward Cullen, the lead vampire, in all five Twilight films, alongside Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. The first entry, aptly named Twilight, was released back in 2008, while the final installment, Breaking Dawn - Part 2, landing just four years later in 2012.

Via DiscussingFilm, Pattinson said Twilight haters need to move on with their lives. "It fascinates me that people keep telling me: 'Dude, Twilight ruined the vampire genre,'" the actor explained. Since Twilight's release, the vampire genre has found a renaissance, although few other movies portray the...

‘A Thousand and One,’ ‘The Woman King,’ ‘Barbie’ Top Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, Adobe’s Latest Film List
Image
Ahead of the Oscar nominations being unveiled, USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and the Adobe Foundation have released a new edition of their Inclusion List, with a focus on movies.

The top-scoring movies for supporting gender inclusion on screen and behind the cameras were A Thousand and One, You Hurt My Feelings, The Marvels, Priscilla and Barbie. For race and ethnicity, the top-scoring movies were Joy Ride, A Thousand and One, The Color Purple, House Party and The Blackening.

In an earlier Inclusions List, 476 theatrically released movies from 2019 to 2023 were analyzed, with on screen and behind-the-camera data used to determine the 150 most inclusive films in that four-year period. The latest Inclusion List builds on that ranking with a new set of films from 2023.

“Our goal with the Inclusion List is to celebrate those who are showcasing and working with exceptional talent from all backgrounds. In the second year of its release,...

‘Barbie,’ ‘A Thousand and One’ and ‘Joy Ride’ Rank Among the Inclusion List’s 150 Most Inclusive Films
Image
Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” was a poster child for the power of inclusion when it broke box office records in 2023, but the $1.45 billion-grossing movie is only the 119th most inclusive film made in the past five years, according to the Inclusion List.

The annual list — presented by Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, in collaboration with the Adobe Foundation — is a data-driven ranking that identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023 and ranks a single year’s films across gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability and age representation.

“Our goal with the Inclusion List is to celebrate those who are showcasing and working with exceptional talent from all backgrounds,” stated Dr. Smith in a press release announcing the researchers’ findings. “In the second year of its release, the newest iteration of the Inclusion List spotlights films, filmmakers, and distributors who clearly demonstrate that inclusion...

USC Annenberg’s Latest Film Inclusion List Adds ‘A Thousand And One’, Three Other 2023 Films To Top 10 List
Image
The second iteration of The Inclusion List from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative has identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023, adding to its initial class of 100 films by naming 50 new titles for the year 2023.

Four films from that year have made it into the Top 10 Most Inclusive Films for that timespan, according to the study released Wednesday, with A Thousand and One taking the No. 2 spot overall, Bottoms coming in seventh, The Color Purple ninth and The Blackening in 10th.

The list’s point system took into account talent both in front of and behind the camera, with a total of 20 points broken down into 10-point halves for both on-screen and off-screen inclusion. Two distinct processes were used, one for leads/co-leads and the other for all speaking characters. A film could earn up to 10 points for on-screen inclusion based on the five inclusion indicators across leads/co leads (up to 5 points) and all speaking characters (up to 5 points).

A Thousand and One ranks second with a score of 13.6/20, while Bottoms scores a 12.2/20. The Color Purple and The Blackening are tied with a score of 11.8/20. The highest scoring film on the list remains Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King (2022) with a 15/20.

The list also evaluated 2023 films displaying the best inclusivity across five categories: gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability, and age. It named five of the most inclusive 2023 films within each of those categories.

The 2023 films that scored the highest for the gender indicator of inclusion were A Thousand and One, You Hurt My Feelings, The Marvels, Priscilla and Barbie. A Thousand and One also scored high on the race/ethnicity list alongside 2023’s Joy Ride, The Color Purple, The Blackening and House Party. In the LGBTQ+ category, the top five films of 2023 were All of Us Strangers, Theater Camp, Bottoms, Knock at the Cabin and Saltburn. 2023 releases ranking high in the disability category included What Happens Later, John Wick: Chapter 4, Moving On, Golda and The Holdovers. Films from 2023 that scored highest in their representation of age on the big screen were Moving On, Book Club: The Next Chapter, Marlowe, The Miracle Club and Golda.

Researchers also took into consideration the race and ethnicity of crew members in the roles of director, writer, producer, cinematographer, editor, composer, production designer, costume designer, casting director and assistant director.

The second Inclusion List also names 25 top achievers across inclusion metrics and 50 new winners for 2023 cinema. Released Jan. 22, the results calls attention to directors, editors and distributors involved in projects with the highest percentage of women and people of color employees who aided in the process of production from start to finish line.

Related: Women-Led Films Fell Close To 30% In 2023, Near A 10-Year Low, Per Study

Out of 400 evaluated directors, five were named the most inclusive: Catherine Hardwicke, Olivia Wilde, Destin Daniel Cretton, Reinaldo Marcus Green and Kasi Lemmons.

Eight editors were noted for their work in film over the past five years, including Annette Davey, Anne McCabe, Blair McClendon, Catrin Hedström, Hilda Rasula, Harry Yoon, Mary Jo Markey.

The top distributors — companies responsible for bringing top-ranking diverse films to audiences — were listed by the quantity of how many films released: Universal (29), Sony Pictures (21), Warner Bros (18) and, for smaller distributors, A24 (14), MGM (10) and Bleecker Street (9).

A panel discussing the results featuring Smith, Sumi Parekh, Executive Director, Group Effort Initiative, Tracy Oliver, Screenwriter, Director, Producer and Showrunner, Jesse Williams, Actor, Director, Activist, Dewayne Perkins, Writer, Actor, Producer, and Amy White, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Adobe, is set for Friday at Adobe House on the ground at the Sundance Film Festival.

With the recent death of David Lynch, many people may be digging through his excellent filmography. While he only directed 10 feature films, he was involved in scores of other projects, one of which might seem familiar if you've browsed the filmographies of many other great actors and filmmakers. Johnny Depp, J.K. Simmons, Laura Dern, Sam Raimi, Peter Farrelly, Penelope Ann Miller, Chad Coleman, Richard Chamberlain, Catherine Hardwicke, Theodore Melfi, Jade Pettyjohn, and others. The title is The Black Ghiandola, and it's a short film written by and starring Anthony Conti, a 16-year-old cancer patient who made the film two months before he passed away.

The production was made possible by the Make A Film Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2007 that helps children enduring serious or life-threatening medical conditions to create short film legacies by teaming them with industry professionals who volunteer their time. 22 Years Ago, a Major Twilight Actor Starred in This Forgotten Controversial Drama
Image
This article discusses drug use by young characters and self-harm.

Growing up is tough enough, but it's even harder for some girls when they turn 13. It's a tough age, since the gap between being a kid and a teenager starts to blur, and many are left with an identity crisis as a result. Some girls are influenced by others when it comes to how to dress and behave. Tracy Freeland (Evan Rachel Wood) is easily led astray by peer pressure in the controversial drama, Thirteen. She idolizes a manipulative girl named Evie Zamora (Nikki Reed) who encourages her to grow up way too fast. Evie shows Tracy a world beyond stuffed animals and straight A's, one that involves drugs, alcohol, and sex.

Thirteen doesn't hold back with raw realism. In fact, the star of the movie, Nikki Reed, who is best known for starring as Rosalie in the Twilight series,...

The best America Ferrera movies and TV shows highlight why the Ugly Betty star is so highly regarded outside the realm of sitcoms and quirky comedy - and also show why she’s so deserving of her status as a multi-award-winning actor. The momentum from this strong start never waned, and within a few years, America Ferrera would find herself becoming a household name thanks to taking the lead role in the highly successful sitcom Ugly Betty. However, while playing Betty Suarez was a career-defining performance, it’s far from the only celebrated performance from the actor - nor is it the best America Ferrera movie or TV show.

When Jim Carrey Refused To Promote His Own Movie Sparking A Controversy
Image
Did Jim Carrey refuse to promote Kick-Ass 2? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

This all happened during the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. Jim Carrey wasn’t okay with the violence the film portrayed anymore. In a tweet, he declared: “I did Kick-Ass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

Creator Mark Millar was baffled by the whole stuff. He took to his blog, alluding, “[I’m] baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago.” Ouch.

It was difficult for Millar, yes. He pointed out that Kick-Ass 2 was always going to have its share of blood. Also because, the first movie (Hit-Girl) had set the tone. Millar defended his film, calling it fiction and that it...
