This is a public service announcement, Alister Grierson's horror comedy Bloody Hell premieres on Shudder tomorrow. So let's revisit this little gem of a film by way of two trailer variants, green and red band, and a few choice words from our own Josh who reviewed the film here. Josh caught Bloody Hell when it played during Nightstream in 2020. Here are some excerpts from his review. What could certainly be a pretty grim entry in the late, lamented torture porn genre is given a remarkably light treatment by writer Robert Benjamin and his director, turning Bloody Hell into a very fun, violent black comedy... Never missing a chance to pile on the gore or any gruesome elements, Grierson keeps the blood flowing,...

A quirky, demented, and frenetically paced genre mash-up, Bloody Hell from director Alister Grierson is a wickedly entertaining time that takes viewers to some truly unexpected places, and never really lets up from start to finish. Featuring a devilishly double performance from Ben O’Toole, Bloody Hell is a ridiculously fun romp that may not exactly dig really deep, but there’s still plenty to enjoy all the same.
Bloody Hell introduces us to Rex (O’Toole) on what might be the worst day of his life. As he uses his banking needs as a means of finding an excuse to chat with a teller he seems to share a bit of a flirtation with, a group of robbers burst in and take everyone hostage. Rex, being a man of action, intervenes and saves the day, but unfortunately, the legal system views his actions differently, and sends him to the slammer.

A viral vigilante escapes unwanted notoriety only to find that even though things were bad, they can always get worse in Alister Grierson's new gonzo shocker, Bloody Hell. Rex was minding his own business at the bank, making cutesy eyes at an attractive teller when a sudden robbery throws him into fight or flight mode. Much to the dismay of the robbers, Rex picks fight, and several shotgun blasts later, Rex is being hailed as a hero... almost. Among the victims of his adrenaline fueled outburst, is an innocent whose death sends him to prison, leaving him in the awkward position of being an angel to some and a demon to others. A captivity tale whose ostensible Finnish setting serves mostly to put us in mind of grisly old-world folk tales, Alister Grierson’s Bloody Hell saves its troll for the very end but offers plenty of peril while we await him. Built around an animated performance by Ben O’Toole, who isn’t hampered by spending most of the film suspended from rope handcuffs in a dank basement, the pic musters just enough dark-comic energy to recall early Sam Raimi — albeit without the frenzied camerawork that helped make Evil Dead a classic.

"Why aren't you dead?" The Horror Collective has released an official red band trailer for Bloody Hell, described as a "pitch-black horror comedy" from Australian filmmaker Alister Grierson (of Sanctum). This played at the Nightstream Film Festival last year and debuts on VOD this month. Bloody Hell is described as "a fiendishly fun rollercoaster horror film set between Boise, Idaho and Helsinki, Finland which follows our lead character Rex Coen played by Ben O'Toole (Nekrotronic), a man with a mysterious past who flees the country to escape his own personal hell – only to arrive somewhere much, much, much worse." Once he arrives in Finland, he finds himself tied up in some kind of demented family's house. The cast includes Meg Fraser, Caroline Craig, Matthew Sunderland, Travis Jeffery, Jack Finsterer, David Hill, and Caleb Enoka. This looks extra fucked up and freaky - and but I still want to visit Finland.

‘Dirt Music.’
The launches last weekend of Gregor Jordan’s Dirt Music and Alister Grierson’s Bloody Hell underline the challenges facing independent films in a theatrical market that is severely weakened by the Victorian shutdown, limits on seating capacity and the absence of Hollywood tentpoles.
Universal mounted a substantial marketing campaign for Jordan’s romantic drama based on the Tim Winton novel, while Grierson’s dark comedic thriller opened on 50 screens across the Event Cinemas, Birch Carroll & Coyle and Greater Union circuits.
Starring Kelly Macdonald, Garrett Hedlund and David Wenham, Dirt Music grossed $188,000 on 201 screens and $300,000 including previews, more than a year after its world premiere in Toronto.
Exhibitors were disappointed. “I would definitely have expected more from a high profile Aussie film based on a best seller,” Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace Gm Alex Temesvari tells If.

We have a brand new trailer for Bloody Hell. This is the latest horror flick from filmmaker Alister Grierson and is set to make its rounds on the festival circuit starting this month. Before that happens, the studio has released a tease of what's to come. As we can see from the trailer, this looks to bring the pop-horror goods.
The trailer opens up with a look at our lead character, Rex Coen, who has quite the checkered past, as we quickly discover. He has gained some unwanted notoriety through what appear to be some truly wild, highly publicized incidents. He then decides to try and escape it all. Though that turns out to be a huge mistake as Rex soon finds himself enduring new misery that is far worse than what he left behind. Producers Brett Thornquest, Steven Matusko and Mat Graham have launched Entertainment Advocate, an Australian distribution company with the aim of handling a limited number of Oz, Us and UK titles each year.
The banner’s debut release, Two Heads Creek, a macabre, irreverent horror comedy directed by Jesse O’Brien, opened last weekend after premiering at Monster Fest.
While the weekend gross was a modest $14,000 including festival screenings, Matusko, who is partnered with Thornquest in Eclectik Vision, tells If: “We understand the business and will approach distribution with a producer’s mindset rather than a distributor’s.
“We are not looking to outbid larger distribution companies but we want to work with other Australian producers and also to release select films from the UK and Us.”
Graham was one of the producers on Eclectik Vision’s Infini and The Osiris Child, both directed by Shane Abbess.

After graduating from Queensland University of Technology as a Bachelor in Fine Arts last year, Sisi Stringer has landed a key supporting role in New Line’s Mortal Kombat reboot.
Stringer will play Mileena, an unstable, dual sai-wielding assassin in the superhero movie directed by Aussie Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan and Todd Garner.
That’s quite a coup for the Brisbane-based actor/singer who has just two screen credits: an episode of the ABC/Hoodlum Entertainment’s Harrow and a small role in Alister Grierson/Eclectik Vision’s comedic thriller Bloody Hell.
Stringer is repped by Cbm Management’s Clinton Bryan-Mathieson, who signed her when she came to Sydney for a Qut showcase.
Shooting starts at the Adelaide Studios and locations on September 26, with investment from the South Australian Government.

Ben O’Toole.
After graduating from Waapa in 2011, Ben O’Toole played policeman Pete for three seasons of Love Child, had supporting roles in The Water Diviner and Hacksaw Ridge and co-starred in the Us movies Detroit and 12 Strong.
The Brisbane-born actor plays the leads in Alister Grierson’s comedic thriller Bloody Hell and in Kiah Roache-Turner’s horror-comedy Nekrotronic, yet he is far from satisfied with where he is at in his career.
“I still have a lot more to learn; I have much further to go,” says O’Toole, who has bases in Sydney and Los Angeles, the latter with actor-director housemate Kick Gurry.
Working with Mel Gibson on Hacksaw Ridge and with Chris Hemsworth on 12 Strong were great learning experiences.
“Mel was incredible and very powerful in communicating what he wanted us to do, and he encouraged Vince Vaughn and me to improvise,” he says.

Directed by Alister Grierson, the film Tiger stars Prem Singh, Janel Parrish, Michael Pugliese and Academy Award nominee Mickey Rourke.
Tiger is inspired by the true story of Pardeep Singh Nagra, a practicing Sikh man who was banned from the sport of boxing due to his religious beliefs. The ban and the backlash he received is a result of racial profiling, stereotypical threats, and the daily pressure to change to fit a regulation and to conform. It is within the course of these challenges, and at his weakest moment, that he discovers love, who he is and to love himself and find his purpose. Consequently, his legacy will be forever tied to his two biggest battles – one in the courtroom, the other in the ring.
This film completely immerses you and gets you involved into the fight of Pardeep Singh Nagra and will make you want him to triumph inside and outside the ring.

"Nobody likes change... To me it doesn't matter how a fighter look, it ain't going to knock me down." R3M Pictures has debuted an official trailer for a boxing drama titled Tiger, the latest from Australian filmmaker Alister Grierson. A practicing Sikh is banned by the boxing commission for refusing to back down from his religious beliefs. Through racial profiling and stereotypical threats, he does what any strong American would do, fight back - in the courts, and in the ring. The film stars Prem Singh as Pardeep Nagra, and the cast includes Mickey Rourke, Janel Parrish, Marshall Manesh, and Michael 'Mick' Harrity. This looks alright, but I'm not too sure. It seems like a meaningful story about someone fighting for what he loves to do, fighting against age old racism and prejudice. Check it out below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Alister Grierson's Tiger, direct from YouTube...

Director Alister Grierson acknowledges ABC1 has given his film Parer.s War a tough time-slot next Sunday night, programmed against the finale of Downton Abbey on Seven and the Logie Awards on Nine.
So he.s keen to bang the promotional drum for the dramatised saga of WWII cameraman Damien Parer, whose work almost cost him the woman he loved.

Canberra, March 25: An Australian flight disaster movie has been shelved in the wake of Monday's tragic news about Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the media reported Tuesday.

Production company behind Deep Water says it's 'not the right time' to shoot movie about Beijing-bound flight crashing into sea
An Australian disaster film about a plane that crashes in a remote stretch of ocean en route to China has been shelved following the loss of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370.
The film, called Deep Water, follows the plight of a group of passengers who survive when their plane from Australia to Beijing crashes in a remote stretch of ocean.
The makers of the Australian/Thai co-production have decided to put pre-production of the film on hold, due to the sensitivity of embarking on the film in the wake of the crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in the southern Indian ocean which claimed the lives of 239 passengers and crew.
"We thought it wasn't the right time to make a film about a plane crash right now," said Gary Hamilton, managing director of Arclight Films.

After taking audiences deep into the unknown, following an underwater cave diving team in the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world in the 3D film Sanctum, director Alister Grierson is heading into the vastness of the ocean this time. The Daily Mail (via The Guardian) has revealed a new film called Deep Water about the fate of a group of passengers who survive a crash in the ocean when their plane goes down during a flight to Beijing. It sounds like The Grey meets Open Water, but it doesn't sound like Grierson will try to use 3D in an attempt to immerse the audiences in the aquatic disaster like Sanctum. The paper points out the similarities to the headline-making story about a missing Malaysian plane (which has since been confirmed to crash in the Indian Ocean), and while Grierson admits there are similarities, the film went into...

Deep Water director insists drama following the fate of Beijing-bound flight that crashes into sea will go ahead
An Australian drama about a plane which crashes on its way to China is to move forward despite unfortunate similarities with missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370.
Alister Grierson's film Deep Water will centre on the fate of a group of passengers who survive when their plane goes down during a flight to Beijing. The film-maker, whose 3D cave diving disaster movie Sanctum is one of the highest-grossing Australian films of all time, admitted the plot of his film tallied in some ways with real-life events.

British actors with a background in classic theatre are known for bringing some gravitas and credibility to comic book movies, whether it's Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Marvel's Thor, or Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor Xavier and Magneto in the X-Men films (including the upcoming Days of Future Past).
From that same generation of veterans comes Ben Kingsley, stepping into the role of archnemesis the Mandarin in Iron Man 3.
The movie is Marvel's biggest departure yet from the comic books it publishes, with the studio (now under the aegis of Disney) clearly aiming for a much more populist and comedic approach. It certainly worked with the snappy humour in Avengers and now there's more of that in Iron Man 3, though I'd argue the laughs weren't as effective as Whedon's spot-on quippery.
The characterisation of Mandarin has caused much consternation among the hardcore fanboys, though it works within the movie.
