Blade Trilogy Writer David S. Goyer On MCU Reboot Delay: "Why Is It Taking So Long?"
Image
Like the rest of us, David S. Goyer is wondering why Marvel Studios is having so much trouble cracking the long-awaited Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, and has offered his services to Kevin Feige should he need any help getting the project back on track.

Goyer, who wrote the scripts for all three movies in the original Blade trilogy and directed 2004's Blade: Trinity, was asked if he would have any interest in writing the MCU reboot during an interview with Screen Rant.

“I would. I’ve always loved the character and I love him. I’ve been sitting on the sidelines wondering, ‘What in the world is going on? Why is it taking so long?’ Because I’m a huge Marvel fan myself, and I’ve just been totally puzzled.”

Though the reboot was removed from Marvel Studios' slate late last year, we had heard that the movie was...

Wesley Snipes in Blade (1998)
Blade trilogy writer David S. Goyer’s advice to Marvel: “Give me a call.”
Wesley Snipes in Blade (1998)
The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’re coming up on the six year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Now, we don’t know if we’re going to get a Blade reboot at all – which is baffling to David S. Goyer, who wrote the trilogy of Blade films that were released between 1998 and 2004 and also created the short-lived Blade TV series that ran for 13 episodes in 2006. His advice to Marvel Studios: “Give me a call.”

When Dwayne Johnson Called Himself Jungle Cruise Co-Star Emily Blunt’s ‘Sidekick’: “I Get To Tag Along…”
Image
Here’s Why Dwayne Johnson Call Himself Emily Blunt’s “Sidekick!”(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Dwayne Johnson wasn’t afraid to hand over the compass on this one. When the Jungle Cruise sequel got the green light, The Rock proudly called himself Emily Blunt’s “sidekick” — and fans were all in. The news broke on August 30, 2021: Jungle Cruise officially leveled up to franchise status. Disney locked in a sequel after the film crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office.

For Johnson, that milestone wasn’t just about numbers. It was a celebration. “Mahalo for making Jungle Cruise cross that $100M mark at the US box office,” he shared in a post, adding, “Jungle Cruise is only the 4th movie of 2021 to achieve that milestone. Not an easy accomplishment these days, so thank you guys so much.”

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram again on September 2, confirming what fans had...

Blade reboot was going to be set in the 1920s and feature Flying Lotus music

Blade Now Said To Be On "Indefinite Hold" As Flying Lotus Reveals He Was Set To Write Music For The Reboot
Image
Though Blade was removed from Marvel Studios' slate late last year, we had heard that the movie was simply delayed and would eventually move forward. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case.

Despite recent reports that the MCU reboot was still on track to commence production in the UK at some point later this year, insider Daniel Richtman claims to have confirmed that Blade has now been put "on indefinite hold."

Backing up this claim is recording artist/DJ Flying Lotus, aka Steven Ellison, who has taken to X to reveal that he had signed on to write the music for the project before things fell through - and he does not sound optimistic about the film getting back on track.

I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but. Yeah I was signed on to write music for the new Blade movie before it fell thru.

Blade: Oscar-Winning Costume Designer Just Verified A Key Rumor About The Marvel Film
Image
The Blade MCU project has been trying to ice skate uphill for a number of years now!

Mahershala Ali was announced as the star of Blade all the way back at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Since then, the MCU project has suffered a number of reported setbacks, draining several directors and screenwriters in the project's quest to satisfy Ali and Marvel Studios executives.

Since 2019, there have been 4+ directors attached to the project and at least 5 different versions of the script.

However, one sticking piece has been the rumored setting of the film, which was said to take place in the 1920s, which was first rumored back in September 2022. And the latest rumor from January 2024 speculated that the film was still set in the '20s.

Now, 2x Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter has seemingly confirmed this key plot detail. The John Campea Show has talked with Carter about her work on Sinners,...

Former Blade Star Delroy Lindo Says MCU Reboot "Went Off The Rails" And Teases His Now-Scrapped Role
Image
Like Lanterns star Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo was cast in an earlier version of Blade before eventually departing the project amid a seemingly endless series of rewrites and creative team changes (the one constant has been Mahershala Ali's involvement).

We don't know who Lindo was set to play, though it was widely speculated that he'd been cast as Jamal Afari, the man who raised Blade and taught him everything he knows about hunting vampires.

The actor is no longer attached to the movie, and it's unclear whether he or the character will feature in a potential future iteration.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly about his role in Sinners, Lindo recalled, "When Marvel came to me, they seemed to be really interested in my input. And in the various conversations I had with producers, the writer, the director at the time, it was all leading into being very inclusive."

"It was really exciting conceptually,...

What If...? Concept Art Highlights Mahershala Ali's MCU Debut As Blade/Moon Knight Ahead Of Marvel Zombies
Image
Marvel Zombies was first announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022 as part of a splashy "Marvel Animation" slate reveal. Things went quiet after that, though it's since been confirmed that the four-episode series will premiere on Disney+ on October 3, later this year.

While the concept originated in the comics, it wasn't until What If...? season 1 that Marvel Studios finally put the spotlight on undead superheroes. In an episode titled "What If... Zombies?!" we watched as several fan-favourite heroes, including Spider-Man, fought off a whole host of undead fan-favourites.

Marvel Zombies will serve as a sequel to that, and the What If...? series finale offered a glimpse at one of the Variants expected to take centre stage in the story: Mahershala Ali's Blade/Moon Knight.

While the Oscar winner had a brief voice cameo in 2021's Eternals, the Daywalker's solo movie remains stuck in limbo after being announced...

‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Season 2 Lands Director in ‘Ultraman Rising’ Alum
Image
Last year, Ultraman fans were gifted with a new and exciting 3D-animated installment of the franchise. Ultraman: Rising was a fun ride that made fans hungry for more, but sadly it looks like sequels are not on Netflix plans. However, the streamer hasn't overlooked the talent of one of the movie's directors. John Aoshima has landed another massive gig inside the streamer's projects: he will helm one episode of the upcoming — and highly anticipated — Season 2 of the hit animated series Blue Eye Samurai.

The announcement hails from Deadline, which also revealed that the director will keep himself busy. In addition to the directing gig at Netflix, the filmmaker signed an exclusive multi-year overall development deal with Warner Bros. Animation. This means that Aoshima will be in charge of developing several feature animated projects from the studio, and he will also have the chance of directing projects that he feels inclined to.

‘Ultraman: Rising’ Helmer John Aoshima Inks Multi-Year Overall Deal With Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, Boards ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Season 2

Exclusive: Hot animation director John Aoshima (Ultraman: Rising) has entered into an exclusive multi-year overall development deal with Bill Damaschke’s Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in feature animation, Deadline has learned. Under the deal, he will develop original and studio projects as Director in Development.

Elsewhere, Aoshima has landed a coveted gig with Netflix, one of today’s preeminent platforms for launching animation directors, as we understand he’s been signed as guest director for the second season of Blue Eye Samurai, the streamer’s Emmy- and Annie Award-winning series from Amber Noizumi and Michael Green.

Boasting over 25 years of experience in both television and feature animation, Aoshima recently made his feature debut as co-director of the Annie- and Ves-nominated film Ultraman: Rising for Netflix. A CalArts grad, he’s also known for directing on series like DuckTales, American Dad!, and Disney’s hit Gravity Falls. His creative contributions...

The Only Agatha Christie Novels Never To Get Any Kind Of Adaptation
Image
Agatha Christie wrote 66 novels throughout her career, and not all of them were bangers. For every classic like "Murder on the Orient Express" — which has received countless movie adaptations over the years — there's a book like "Hallowe'en Party," which was only adapted recently in 2023, over 50 years after its publication date. There were even some Christie novels that have never received a movie adaptation at all, like her 1935 plane-based mystery "Death in the Clouds" that was only ever given the TV miniseries treatment.

At the bottom of most Christie fans' to-read list are four books of hers that never received an adaptation of any kind, be it as a movie, TV show, radio play, or graphic novel. Her 1944 book "Death Comes as the End," her 1954 book "Destination Unknown," her 1970 book "Passenger to Frankfurt," and her 1973 book "Postern of Fate" have all been ignored by the entertainment industry. So, what was wrong with them?...

A new rumor has surfaced indicating that the film has been nixed.

Here is the thread.

I heard some Blade news I trust. File under rumor for now if you want/take it with a grain of salt. I’m ok with that.

Mahershala Ali is still set to play the character in the MCU, but it is unclear when or how the character will debut. According to this rumor he could appear in “Midnight Suns” or “Avengers Secret Wars.”

“Blade” has been plagued with previous rumors and staff changes.

There have been different directors associated with the film like Yaan Demange and Bassam Tariqu, but both left the project.

John Wick Franchise Director Reportedly Tapped to Direct Ill-Fated Blade Reboot
Image
The Blade reboot could be led by the director of another franchise with a badass lead character as the ill-fated Marvel Cinematic Universe looks to get back on track. Reports claim John Wick franchise helmer Chad Stahelski is the latest filmmaker to take the reins of the long-gestating blockbuster.

According to Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Marvel has enlisted Stahelski to become the Blade reboot's third director since its 2019 announcement. Michael Green and Eric Pearson penned the latest draft of the film, with Stahelski tapped to direct as he's set to helm the Henry Cavill-led Highlander reboot and potentially John Wick 5 at Lionsgate.

Stahelski was reportedly chosen after Marvel passed on another director to lead Blade 4. Cary Fukunaga, who directed the most recent James Bond entry, No Time to Die, was reportedly in line for the job late last year. However, Sneider claims Fukunaga's reputation may have cost him the job.

Blade Reportedly Enlists John Wick Franchise Director; Cary Fukunaga Was In Contention Last Year
Image
If you're a Blade fan, it's fair to say the past six-or-so years haven't been the easiest. Mahershala Ali was announced as the McU's Daywalker at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, only for the pandemic to come along the following year and delay Marvel Studios' plans for the movie.

Since then, the Blade reboot has lost a seemingly endless list of writers and directors. The movie has been undated for a while now, making claims that it's on "indefinite hold" not in the least bit surprising.

There were rumblings last month that John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski could be in line to helm the reboot. The latest draft was written by Michael Green and Eric Pearson, and according to The InSneider, he's emerged as a frontrunner to finally bring Blade back to theaters.

According to the site, a different filmmaker was circling the movie at the end of 2024, and...

Blade MCU Reboot Now Rumored To Be On "Indefinite Hold"
Image
Though Blade was removed from Marvel Studios' slate late last year, we had heard that the movie was simply delayed and would eventually move forward. Now, we have a not-so-positive update.

Despite recent reports that the MCU reboot was still on track to commence production in the UK at some point later this year, scooper Mttsh believes that Blade has is now "on indefinite hold."

Last we heard, the latest draft by Eric Pearson - who is the sixth writer to have been assigned to the project after Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto - had "finally satisfied everyone involved," but clearly this isn't the case.

Apparently, the real reason Blade was pushed back again is because Marvel is prioritizing Multiversal stories in the build-up to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. So, it may not be a case of the studio struggling to "get Blade right,...

The Movie Ryan Reynolds Called the 'Greatest Comic Book Adaptation Ever' Is Coming to Max
Image
Max is set to receive one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, at least according to Ryan Reynolds. The X-Men spinoff movie Logan is slated to hit the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming service at the start of April.

Beginning April 1, Max subscribers will be able to stream 2017's Logan, the third and final installment in 20th Century Fox's solo Wolverine trilogy. Before Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart respectively returned as variants of Wolverine and Professor X in Deadpool & Wolverine and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the 2017 X-Men spinoff was set to serve as the swan songs for both of the characters. Drawing inspiration from the "Old Man Logan" comic book storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Logan follows an aged Wolverine and an extremely ill Charles Xavier who must defend a young mutant named Laura (Dafne Keen) from the Reavers.

Novocaine's Jack Quaid Reveals That Starring In A Bioshock Movie Is His Dream Role
Image
Actor Jack Quaid was recently asked what his ideal role would be while participating in a Reddit Ama t to promote his newly released action-comedy flick, Novocaine.

Interestingly enough, Quad revealed that he wants to star in a BioShock movie, as that's his favorite game. Perhaps the timing of this reveal is not so coincidental as Netflix is currently working on just that.

"I would actually love to be in a live action adaptation of Bioshock - one of my favorite games of all time. I think there's such a rich lore to that game that could be explored in a TV or movie adaptation."

"I've seen people say that I look like Max Payne, and when I've looked at the box art, even I did a double-take. I love Rockstar's games, but unfortunately I've never played that one - it's next on the list, for sure."

This Emmy Award Winning Anime With a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes Needs to Stop Hiding in Plain Sight
Image
It's not every day an Emmy-winning series recognized in The New York Times' Best TV Shows in 2023 and 2024 feels like it flies under the radar. Nevertheless, such is the case for Blue Eye Samurai. The Edo-period revenge anime sits at a curious crossroads in the animation world. With 4.8 million views in its first two weeks on Netflix, a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, and an Emmy win, no one could say it's underrated or a commercial failure. Yet, the gorgeously rendered series is hardly discussed among the folks who might appreciate it most: anime fans.

Much like the main protagonist Mizu hides her identity, Blue Eye Samurai operates in disguise in the anime landscape. The French-produced revenge tale, created by Michael Green and Amber Noizumi, boasts Japanese historical settings, samurai combat so smooth some consider it sakuga despite its CGI animation, and clear Samurai Champloo and Ninja Scroll influences. Still, a controversial combination — its production home,...

Blade Runner 2099: Tom Burke says the Prime Video series is closer to the aesthetic of the original film than to 2049
Image
Last year, the Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099 – which is, of course, a continuation of the franchise that began with the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and then got a long-awaited follow-up called Blade Runner 2049, which had Denis Villeneuve at the helm, in 2017 – made its way through production. We’re waiting to hear when the show is going to premiere, but in the meantime, cast member Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) has told Variety that Blade Runner 2099 is closer to the aesthetic of the original film than to 2049.

Tom Burke stars in the series alongside Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy), Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow”), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Woman...

Rumor: Spider-man 4 Will Serve As A "Direct Sequel" To Avengers: Doomsday
Image
There have been numerous theories and rumors relating to Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' fourth solo Spider-Man movie, and speculation really kicked up a few notches when some pretty wild reports about which characters could be involved in the story started doing the rounds a couple of months back.

Now, a new rumor may give us a better idea of what to expect.

According to Daniel Richtman, Spider-Man 4 is basically being developed as "a direct sequel" to Avengers: Doomsday that will bridge the gap between the 2026 film and 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.

We have heard that Tom Holland's wall-crawler is going to have a major role in Doomsday, so Spider-Man 4 serving as a follow-up (to at least some extent) would make sense.

Though Spidey didn't feature in the recent MCU concept art that found its way online, the images did lead to some intriguing theories relating to...

Rumor: Taylor Swift Up For Mysterious Superhero Role; Updates On Nova And Midnight Sons
Image
We are still hearing that Taylor Swift is hoping to land a superhero role, but who could she play - and for which franchise?

The Swift as Dazzler rumors first began when the singer's likeness was used for the musical mutant's album cover in X-Men: Apocalypse. Nothing ever came of it back then, but the rumors persisted. Speculation really kicked into overdrive when the pop megastar was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game with Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in 2023.

Of course, Swift was nowhere to be seen in the movie, but follow-up rumors have claimed that she has met with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige about a potential role, be it Alison Blair or someone else (The Blonde Phantom was one character that was said to be on the table).

Now, scooper Daniel Richtman...

The Worst DC Movie Ever Made Is How Greg Berlanti Landed Arrow: “It ultimately led to wonderful things”
Image
For a long time, the Green Lantern IP was kept on the sidelines after the debacle of the 2011 movie, which was originally meant to be the first entry in Warner Bros’ planned DC film universe. Moreover, Greg Berlanti, who penned the Ryan Reynolds-led movie, was commissioned to develop the sequel alongside Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim.

Although the sequel never came to fruition following Green Lantern‘s critical and commercial performance, it did kickstart Berlanti’s ascent on the DC universe in the small screen.

Part of the reason behind Green Lantern‘s failure was the studio meddling, which diluted Greg Berlanti‘s final vision for the movie. On the bright side, even though the situation was heartbreaking for Berlanti, unlike the Green Lantern IP, which was put on ice as a result,...

Previously, reports suggested that Logan writer Michael Green had been hired to pen the script. However, this was never officially confirmed by Marvel or other reliable sources.

Now industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that Michael Green is no longer a part of the project. Green is currently busy executively producing the ‘Blade Runner 2009’ series for Amazon Prime Video.

Marvel Studios recently announced that three rumored projects—Nova, Terror Inc., and Strange Academy—are no longer in active development. However, the studio has not confirmed nor denied the same for Midnight Sons.

Not much is known about the project itself even via rumors but the team...

'I Wish He Had Written the Script': Green Lantern Director Addresses Ryan Reynolds' Jokes About the Movie
Image
Ryan Reynolds is now automatically linked to the role of Deadpool, which he has played in different forms for over a decade and a half. However, in between his commitment to the Merc with a Mouth, Reynolds played a different superhero in 2011's Green Lantern.

Reynolds first played a different version of Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it wasn't until 2016 that he got his own standalone film the way he had envisioned it. In 2011, he took a role as DC Comics character Hal Jordan/ Green Lantern but the movie wasn't the success Reynolds had hoped, and has spent the last decade poking fun at the movie. Speaking to Polygon, director Martin Campbell revealed his honest thoughts on Reynolds' ongoing mockery of the film.

Denis Villeneuve Says 'Blade Runner 2049' Was a Bad Idea, But He's Wrong

Quick LinksDoes Denis Villeneuve Have Mixed Feelings on 'Blade Runner 2049'?'Blade Runner 2049' Is One of Villeneuve’s Best Films'Blade Runner 2049' Made Us Villeneuve Fans for Life

Few directors in the modern era have had as meteoric a rise as Denis Villeneuve. After spending the early 2010s as a cult favorite and critical darling with Incendies, Prisoners, and Sicario, he truly put himself on the map with 2016’s Arrival. That film, widely considered one of the best of the decade, earned him his first Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Picture, and since then, he’s become the go-to guy for thought-provoking, epic science fiction blockbusters.

His star has only grown since then, with his first two Dune installments drawing mass audiences for source material once thought unadaptable (even if he was snubbed for Best Director again). Yet Villeneuve’s biggest project at the time,...

Armor Wars
Marvel now said to be overhauling two future projects
Armor Wars
According to new reports, Marvel Studios has gone back to the drawing board with two of its longer-term projects: Midnight Suns and Armor Wars.

As it heads into 2025, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) seems to have regained some of its former momentum after suffering a pretty torrid couple of years.

One of those projects is Midnight Suns, a team-up movie that would bring together some of Marvel’s more supernatural characters, including Blade, Morbius and at least two versions of Ghost Rider. Other members have included Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Man-Thing, Wolverine, Iron Fist, and Wong.

The ensemble has already featured in a rather popular video game adaptation and with several of those characters already existing in the MCU, this project was expected to form part of the post-Avengers landscape. The natural lull that follows the big tentpole team-up movies became a real headache for Marvel Studios in the wake...

Midnight Sons Movie Rumored To Have Lost Michael Green; Marvel Studios Searching For New Writer
Image
Marvel Studios' Midnight Sons movie may have suffered a setback with the departure of a reliable hand to pen the script for the planned supernatural team-up.

We got word that Michael Green had been enlisted to write Midnight Sons last summer, but according to scooper Mttsh, his "take didn't click" and he has now parted ways with the project. Marvel is said to be searching for a replacement.

Green wrote the original script for the long-awaited Blade reboot, and has also worked on the likes of Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai, Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot trilogy, Blade Runner 2049 and Logan.

It's important to keep in mind that a Midnight Sons movie has yet to be officially announced - although we'd say Marvel Studios assembling their supernatural characters for a team-up at some point is inevitable.

Multiple characters have been a part of or associated with the team in the comics over the years,...

‘All My Children’ Casting Director Recalls Hiring Michael B. Jordan After Chadwick Boseman Was Fired
Image
Before going toe-to-toe in Wakanda, Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan‘s paths almost crossed in Pine Valley.

All My Children casting director Judy Blye Wilson recently recalled hiring Jordan to play Reggie Montgomery on the ABC soap opera back in 2003 after Boseman was fired from the role.

“I did cast Boseman, who became very famous, as we all know. And he was only on the show for just a week, because they really wanted the character to be about 16, 15 years old,” said Wilson at the 92Y, according to People.

“[Boseman] was a magnificent actor to audition. And long story short, they fired him,” she added. “And then I put in Michael B. Jordan, who became just as famous. And he was only about 15 at that time. Now, I could go on and on, but I think I don’t want to do that.”

In 2020, the late Boseman’s longtime agent...

Carry On Review — Egerton and Bateman Waste Your Time in this Inept Thriller
Image
Is this the first time a marketing idea came before a movie script? I couldn’t help but wonder after watching Netflix’s inept and time-wasting thriller Carry On. It feels as if the studio said to themselves, “Let’s make a movie that answers the question, Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?”

With the advent of Hollywood AI, I’d bet my salary against the president of Netflix’s salary that this was the case. Carry On is a blatant rip-off of better films, particularly Die Hard 2: Die Harder. Worse, the script thinks it’s smarter than it is, dragging down a fun performance by Jason Bateman.

10 Fantastic Movies Let Down by Terrible Marketing

Filmmaking is a business, where movies are carefully constructed and meticulously crafted products meant to turn a profit for major studios and independent publishers alike. But a carefully crafted product is only as successful as its marketing and branding initiatives can sell, and sometimes some of the best-crafted movies are brought down by less-than-ideal marketing campaigns.

Bad marketing is the death knell for a feature film, even if the movie is critically acclaimed and beloved by the audiences that did see it. When movies are burdened with bad marketing, even the best can fail.
