Babylon (2022) saw one of Margot Robbie’s more transformative and daring roles to date. Playing Nellie Laroy, Robbie gave us an ambitious and fiery actress navigating the chaotic shift from silent films to sound films in 1920s Hollywood. Her portrayal of Nellie captured the vulnerability and pure energy of a woman trying to make a place for herself in an industry rife with excess and disorder.
Despite her commendable contribution to the film, many fans were left disappointed when the actress was overlooked for an Oscar nomination. The oversight ignited several conversations regarding the challenges of recognizing standout portrayals in movies that split critical opinion. Robbie’s work in Babylon was a true reflection of her versatility. The snub only highlights the intricacies of award recognition in the film industry.

Thunderbolts*, aka The New Avengers, saw a big jump on its first Tuesday compared to its Monday gross, and with that, it has surpassed the domestic haul of The Marvels. It is reportedly the largest percentage increase in the MCU’s history on Tuesday. The film finally saw some benefit from its strong word of mouth. Keep scrolling for more.
The Marvels, released in 2023, is the biggest MCU flop, with a budget of more than $200 million. The film featured Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris in the pivotal roles. The audience did not enjoy the all-female flick due to a weak plotline and the over-the-top humor. Despite good visuals and action sequences, the film failed miserably at the box office, collecting only $84.5 million in its domestic run.

Florence Pugh Worldwide Box Office Beats Ryan Gosling Career Total Collection ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
English actress Florence Pugh is being praised for her heartfelt performance in Thunderbolts*. The film’s decent opening has helped the actress surpass a significant milestone at the worldwide box office. She has surpassed Ryan Gosling as one of the highest-grossing Hollywood stars, a remarkable feat indeed. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Florence made her acting debut in 2014’s The Falling and gradually gained recognition for her powerful and versatile performances. On the other hand, Gosling started his career as a child actor and got his breakthrough in 2001’s The Believer, over a decade before Pugh got into acting. She even clashed with Gosling in 2023 as Oppenheimer and Barbie clashed. Although Florence had limited screen time, it still stood out.
After Barbie, Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy failed to impress the audience and thus was not a box office success.

Exclusive: Margaret Qualley is set to star in the Amazon MGM Studios pic, Love of Your Life, with Rachel Morrison directing. Julia Cox wrote the script with Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson are producing.
Plot details are under wraps. Deadline was first to report the major script sale in October after an intense bidding war, which Gosling and Henderson won for Amazon MGM Studios. At the time, the auction was one of the bigger ones of the year given that no talent was involved outside of the producers, so once Amazon MGM Studios came on board, the lead role was seen as one of the more highly-coveted role in town for any A-list leading lady. While sources say several individuals were in the hunt for the part, Qualley seemed like the top-choice from the start especially after meeting with Morrison for the role earlier this year.

Cinema owner Mark O’Meara was watching the Oscars in his living room when Sean Baker, accepting the best director trophy for “Anora,” made an impassioned plea for global audiences to support their local multiplex.
“I stood up and was jumping up and down. He’s talking about me and independent theaters,” O’Meara remembers telling his wife. Five years after Covid badly bruised the movie business, and two years after the strikes slowed the recovery, O’Meara needed no reminder that the industry remains seriously challenged — a fact that was illuminated during 2025’s glacial box office start. “It was an apprehensive couple of months,” he says.
This was weeks ago, in March, when theater attendance was flatlining and tentpoles like Disney’s “Snow White” and Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” just weren’t inspiring enough trips to the movies. But April’s one-two punch of “A Minecraft Movie...

On ABC's 1980s action series "The Fall Guy," Lee Majors played Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who, as a side-hustle, worked as a freelance bounty hunter. His experiences with stunt driving made him well-suited to track down bad guys, and his constant exposure to danger gave him an appealing devil-may-care attitude. He was often aided by fellow stunt performers Kid (Douglas Barr) and Jody (Heather Thomas). Majors himself sang the theme song. The "Fall Guy" IP was eventually revived decades later when director David Leitch adapted the premise into a big screen Hollywood blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling. The 2024 "Fall Guy" movie was spectacular, by the way.
In the "The Fall Guy" episode "Old Heroes Never Die", Colt becomes embroiled in criminal malfeasance with an old baseball star named Ron Perkins (Paul Winfield). Perkins was once a star player but has since fallen on hard times and is now $50,000 in debt...

In a move that could shake up the entertainment industry, President Trump says he’s directed his administration to put a “100 percent tariff” on any movies coming into the U.S. that were not produced in this country.
He posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday that he’s authorized the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to institute the tariff.

It didn’t begin a long time ago or in a galaxy far far away, but every May 4 it feels like images, memes and promotional deals involving Star Wars have an inescapable gravity.
May 4 — or May the 4th, as fans say — has evolved over the years into Star Wars Day, an informal holiday celebrating the space epic and its surrounding franchise.
What is Star Wars Day?
Star Wars Day was created by fans as a sly nod to one of the films’ most popular catchphrases, “May the force be with you.” Get it? Good, now May the 4th be with you, too.
It’s not an official holiday but has become so well-known that even former President Joe Biden marked it last year when Star Wars actor Mark Hamill dropped by the White House a day beforehand. This year, the Trump administration marked the occasion with a Star Wars-themed meme.

Today is May the Fourth, a.k.a. Star Wars Day. Lucasfilm hasn't dropped any big news or reveals, but fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise have been given plenty to talk about thanks to X and Instagram posts from The White House.
The official account decided to mark today's celebrations (via SFFGazette.com) with a post wishing a "Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard [to] bring Sith Lords...back into our Galaxy."
The post concluded by comparing the "Radical Left" to the Empire. It was also accompanied by an AI-generated image of President Donald Trump as...a Sith Lord?!
While the shockingly buff Commander in Chief is decked out in what appears to be Jedi gear, he's wielding a red lightsaber.

Few sci-fi films have a grip on pop culture quite like Ridley Scott’sBlade Runner. The 1982 adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s iconic novel Do You Dream of Electric Sheep? starring Harrison Ford(Indiana Jones) defined the genre in the '80s. Over the last 40 plus years, its fanbase and legacy have only grown. This was with the help of the 2017 sequel being one of the best films of the last decade. Now, before the world expands in its next iteration on the small screen, the original Blade Runner is getting a new futuristic 4K edition.
The latest 4K steelbook will include “The Final Cut” of Blade Runner, which saw extended scenes added to the theatrical release. There aren’t too many things binding the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Star Wars galaxy. Apart from the fact that the parent companies of both these IPs co-exist under the Walt Disney umbrella. But as anyone could tell, Lucasfilm and Marvel are far more connected than just through ownership.
Now, this isn’t as simple as a Death Star Easter egg in Spider-Man or a cheesy Obi-Wan Kenobi reference from Phil Coulson. Instead, we must look at something called the celebrity paradox.
When a character’s pop culture presence breaks through into other worlds because the actor exists in our minds as someone else from a different universe, that is a celebrity paradox. And no place is this paradox louder than two of Disney’s biggest franchises in the 21st century.

Once upon a time, two stars of a $115 million hit lit up the screen with impeccable chemistry, but behind the scenes, it was more horror show than love story. Sparks definitely flew, just not the kind you’d want at a candlelit dinner. Stuff got so heated that one even asked the director to kick the other off the set. Later, they tried to make it work off-camera, but even that crumbled.
Hollywood romances might dazzle under the spotlight, but this one proves not every fairy tale survives the credits.

It’s interesting to think about some things that remain prescient in the public consciousness, especially regarding cinema. Some films become a part of a greater canon of pop-culture history, while others fade into obscurity.
On another level, the costumes and clothing that certain characters wear in legendary films can take on an iconic life of their own, a testament to the level of detail that the wardrobe supervisors of Hollywood hold themselves to.

The Deadpool movies simply never get old, and we won’t mind if Ryan Reynolds brings one more to the mix. Just last year, he and Hugh Jackman blew our socks off with Deadpool & Wolverine, which went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with $1.3 billion in the bank. The humor, the action, the fourth-wall-breaking chaos, all of it just works, and we owe a lot of it to Ryan Reynolds’ impeccable comic timing. Honestly, if he wants to keep suiting up, we are all in.
However, the actor has previously stated that he is in no mood for a fourth Deadpool movie and joked with Jimmy Fallon that his wife and kids would divorce him if he were to do it. Now, Ryan Reynolds is singing a different tune, and he apparently wouldn’t mind Deadpool 4; however, he wouldn’t be the main focus of the movie.

Before Ryan Reynolds used his charm to win over our Gossip Girl alum Blake Lively, the actress was rumored to be associated with another Ryan in the industry. If you guessed our rugged and uber-romantic mill worker Noah Calhoun, you’re right. There were whispers back in 2010, that Lively was reportedly dating Ryan Gosling.
After the two were spotted hanging out at Disneyland in October of 2010, according to E!, the gossip mill exploded. Was it a date, or a friendly churro rendezvous? We’ll never know for sure. But now, Blake Lively seems to be happily married to Ryan Reynolds, despite the couple facing a high-profile lawsuit against Justin Baldoni.

Britney Spears Audition Tape Close-Up(Photo Credit –Instagram)
The Notebook almost had a different leading lady. A pop princess, to be exact. Long before Rachel McAdams cemented her place in rom-com royalty, Britney Spears came shockingly close to playing Allie Hamilton—and her long-lost audition tape just resurfaced with a jaw-dropping price tag: $1 million.
The never-before-seen clip hit eBay with the title (via Cheatsheet): “Rare: Britney Spears Audition For ‘The Notebook’ – One of a kind – original.” According to the seller, the tape was recorded in 2002 on a Sony Hi8mm camera and featured Spears reading opposite Ryan Gosling. Clocking in at just under 10 minutes, it was described as being in “brand new condition.” But here’s the catch—it was strictly for personal use only and not up for public distribution.
In the listing, the seller teased: “The Notebook made Rachel McAdams a star. Little does anyone know, Britney...

The very thought of Ryan Gosling appearing in a Barbie sequel as Ken is exciting for many fans of the actor. In December, multiple reports suggested that Barbie 2 is in the early stages of development. As much as we all like to see him back as Ken, there is another franchise that the actor needs to take over now after he got the approval from the Og star.
Gosling had previously revealed that his favorite film as a child was Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. Interestingly, Gosling’s passion for the role got Stallone’s attention, who picked him to play the potential next generation iteration of the Rambo movies. We are positive that the Drive actor would be exceptional in such an action thriller.

No film can ever hold as much intrigue as the cancelled project, that fabled, elusive "what if?" built up in press events and promo images, only to fall apart and become part of cinema's historical refuse pile. And there is no genre more given to this phenomenon than science fiction. There are sci-fi movies that were discarded by studios decades ago that still manage to cling on to an undead sort of cultural relevance -- a fascination among fans that won't let them truly disappear.
Today, we're looking at some of the most overhyped, widely discussed, heavily promoted, but ultimately never-to-be sci-fi films. It's a collection that undeniably sparks imagination, making us wonder what might have been had studio money lined up in the right way, or rights moved into the proper hands a little sooner, or a big star volunteered to join up.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tie-in with the television shows that Marvel Studios has created over the years runs deeper than we had originally thought, and we have two examples in front of us.
It has been quite some time since fans have seen the faces of these two iconic characters, but they were quite important when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was airing on live television. Well, if the rumors are true, then we might just be celebrating the return of two veteran agents in the field who are needed in the MCU now more than ever!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a certain way of doing things. From returning characters to merging two forces from two different universes by making a connection between them, the MCU does not leave loose ends ever.

Having experienced the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has had a small taste of navigating a widespread outbreak of disease, seclusion, and an alarming decrease in the availability of toilet paper. When compared to the conditions of a zombie apocalypse, similarities surface, exposing the disturbing flaws of human nature and, on a more positive note, our inclination to establish a found family and form connections in unlikely places. Our desire to survive while also maintaining what’s left of our humanity becomes paramount to salvaging our sanity while increasing the possibility of finding solace in a world gone to shit. Here’s the thing, though. To survive, you’ve got to follow the rules. Without order, chaos reigns. Without precaution, you’re likely to end up as a screaming pile of zombie chow instead of living in a fortified lap of luxury, sleeping atop a bed of Twinkies. Ruben Fleischer, the director of 2009’s Zombieland,...

Shawn Levy recently revealed how his experience as a director and executive producer on Stranger Things helped him with his newest directorial project, Star Wars: Starfighter. The sci-fi adventure movie was officially announced at the recent Star Wars Celebration in Japan.
In an interview with Variety, Levy shared that working on Stranger Things for a long time taught him how to keep quiet about major secrets, which has been a beneficial skill for him during the development of his Star Wars movie. "Stranger Things taught me to keep my mouth shut," he said. "So I'm really grateful for that because I kept the Ryan Gosling news and the title and release date of my Star Wars movie pretty damn quiet for a long time. So I'm quite proud of myself and grateful to Stranger Things for making me shut my mouth."
Star Wars: Starfighter will be led by Academy Award-nominated actor Ryan Gosling.

[Editor’s note: This article was first published in April 2023, and has since been updated].
She only has three solo directorial efforts under her belt, but Greta Gerwig has quickly become one of the most highly respected filmmakers working today. Her 2017 coming-of-age drama “Lady Bird” was an instant teen classic upon release, and her 2019 adaptation of “Little Women” received similar rapturous acclaim, becoming the definitive film version of the classic book.
And in July 2023, after an agonizing four year wait and acting a lead role in partner Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise,” Gerwig came back to theaters as a director with the biggest film of the year. “Barbie” is a colorful studio comedy based on the classic dolls from Mattel, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the titular Barbie and her heartthrob Ken. (He’s just Ken!) And it smashed box office numbers to gross over $1 billion globally.
Gerwig perhaps wasn’t the obvious director to choose for bringing the thematically thorny Barbie universe to cinemas; before “Lady Bird,...

Netflix isn’t just a streaming service, but also a production house behind original movies and series; the streaming giants have proven they can deliver cinematic gems like The Irishman and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs that earned them the status of a legitimate player in the film industry.
When it comes to movies, like any art form, they have their highs and lows. Not every film becomes a sensation because of its storytelling or direction; sometimes, it’s the star power of the cast or the endless promotion from the team that takes a not-so-great movie from the back of the list to the spotlight.
Let’s look at some movies that have gained massive attention not for being a great movie with a story but due to sheer viral moments, a star-filled cast, and endless promotion. These movies prove that not all films deserve the hype they get.

For better or worse, the multiverse train has been dominating the MCU releases post-Endgame, and two of the media behemoth’s biggest hits in recent years heavily banked on this concept by bringing in legacy characters. While Deadpool & Wolverine amusingly took a jab at this company’s obsession with the multiverse, Marvel is set to take it a step further with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Arguably, the biggest attraction for the next release, theories regarding his return as the multiversal saga’s big bad have been dominating MCU discussions since the announcement, and a recent theory takes it a bit further.

Unfortunately, Leigh Whannell's film Wolf Mankicked off 2025 not with a howl, but a whimper. After reimagining one Universal Monster icon with 2020's The Invisible Man, the Saw writer took on another ambitious reboot with Wolf Man. The film experienced several delays and cast changes, with Ryan Gosling initially attached to star in the titular role before being replaced by Christopher Abbott. Eventually, Whannell's film saw the light of day, although its short theatrical run was considered a box office flop. “‘Stranger Things’ taught me to keep my mouth shut,” Levy told Variety at Tuesday’s Broadway opening of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” in New York City. “So I’m really grateful for that because I kept the Ryan Gosling news and the title and release date of my ‘Star Wars’ movie pretty damn quiet for a long time. So I’m quite proud of myself and grateful to ‘Stranger Things’ for making me shut my mouth.”
Levy has been part of the “Stranger Things” family as an executive producer since Season 1, including directing episodes in Seasons 3 and 4. So when Sonia Friedman and Stephen Daldry approached him about “The First Shadow” play, which is now playing on Broadway, he was intrigued.

It was recently announced that the Oscars will add a new category for Best Achievement in Stunt Design at the 100th Academy Awards in 2028. The news was met with much fanfare from the stunt community and various industry figures, who have long sought recognition for the technical and creative artists behind the physical feats seen on screen. Venom actor Tom Hardy is among the commentators who have spoken out to celebrate the change, acknowledging that it's "a great start," but the ceremony could benefit from further updates.
Hardy, who has starred in several action-heavy movies throughout his career, including Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises, and the brutal new Netflix thriller Havoc, shared his reaction to the Oscars adding a Stunt Design category during a recent interview with ExtraTV. He recognized that it is a positive step in the right direction for the Academy Awards, but that more...

Did Beyoncé and Jay-Z go overboard for Blue Ivy’s first birthday? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Barbie had her major return spotlight, thanks to the real-life movie that premiered in summer 2023. Greta Gerwig revived the fantasy icon, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling embodying the perfect pair: Barbie and Ken. But to be honest, the fashion doll has been a style icon since forever.
She’s had careers, yachts, dream homes, and wardrobes bigger than walk-in closets. But nothing tops the version gifted to music royalty’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Back in 2013, Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrated their little girl’s first birthday with a party that screamed luxury.
The bash was more like a mini Met Gala, but a toddler edition. And the standout gift was a Barbie no one else on the planet owns. Crafted with 160 real diamonds set in white gold, the doll had an estimated price tag of $80,000 (as reported by Hello!

Could Samuel L. Jackson return as his seemingly-dead-but-maybe-not-really-dead Jedi Master Mace Windu in a future "Star Wars" project? Well, anything could happen but will it happen? That's the better question. For years, Jackson has been absolutely insistent that Mace Windu survived "Revenge of the Sith," despite the fact that he was seemingly killed by Palpatine. What's more, Jackson has expressed a strong desire to reprise his role. Now it seems Bryce Dallas Howard has at least explored the idea of doing something with this long standing idea.
On a recent episode of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Howard touched on the idea of possibly directing a "Star Wars" movie. Howard has directed episodes of "The Mandalorian," "The Book of Boba Fett," and "Skeleton Crew," with her name often coming up online as someone who should helm an upcoming movie in a galaxy far, far away. "I would always say yes,...

Netflix‘s April film acquisitions include masterpieces from some of the most revered Hollywood directors of the past 50 years, including Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese and Michael Mann. Whether you are in the mood for Nolan’s best superhero film or Mann’s greatest crime thriller, Netflix has whatever its subscribers may be looking for in April. That is to say nothing, either, of the pair of timeless sports dramas that the streaming service also added to its platform this month.
Here are TheWrap’s picks for the seven best movies that have started streaming on Netflix in April.
“The Dark Knight” (Warner Bros. Pictures) “The Dark Knight” (2008)
Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” is still considered by many to be the peak of the superhero genre, and for good reason. Nolan’s 2008 sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins” is a propulsive, gripping crime thriller that doubles as a battle of wills...

Emma Mackey will journey from Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” world to the land of “Narnia,” reteaming with the director for her adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series for Netflix.
Mackey has landed the coveted role of the White Witch, the primary antagonist who was played by Tilda Swinton beginning with 2005’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Mackey will join Meryl Streep, who is in talks to play Aslan, the talking lion who serves as Narnia’s guardian and guide for the human children who enter its world.
Gerwig wrote the script and is directing the film, which will reportedly tackle the sixth novel of the series, “The Magician’s Nephew,” where the White Witch (whose name is Jadis) features prominently. “Narnia” is currently slated to open in Imax on Thanksgiving Day 2026, where the film will screen worldwide — and exclusively — for two weeks...
