The third arc of Andor season 2 is some of the best Star Wars TV ever made. The sense of impending doom leading up to the Ghorman massacre, intertwined with the eerie background score and Les Misérables-esque chorus in Episode 8, is perhaps showrunner Tony Gilroy’s most ambitious masterpiece.
Episodes 8 and 9 are currently rated 9.8 on IMDb, making them the show's highest-rated episodes to date. Season 1's "One Way Out" has a 9.5 rating.
The writer of this three-episode arc, Dan Gilroy, keeps the story poignant yet courageous and dares to drop words like “genocide,” but also delivers on the promised connections with the existing Star Wars lore.
From K-2So’s origin story to Mon Mothma’s Rebels connection, here are 10 Easter eggs from Andor season 2 episodes 7-9: "Messenger," "Who Are You?" and "Welcome to the Rebellion."

One of the biggest twists in Andor Season 2 came at the end of Episode 9, "Welcome to the Rebellion," when Bix Caleen made a choice that has huge implications for Cassian Andor and the Rebellion.
After surviving the Ghorman Massacre and escorting Mon Mothma to safety, Cassian returned to Yavin 4 intending to quit the Rebellion. He said he was done and told Bix he couldn't do it anymore. He wanted to live peacefully in a quiet place with her, believing he had given enough to the Rebellion.
It was obvious from Bix's reaction that she wasn't onboard with Cassian's decision. Bix has always seemed prepared to sacrifice their relationship for the Rebellion. She appeared ready to sacrifice everything herself, even though she hadn't joined the Alliance as a Rebel fighter. In the middle of the night, as Cassian slept, Bix recorded a final message and left him. It was emotional and heartbreaking,...

Andor isn’t just a “good Star Wars show.” It’s straight-up brilliant and probably one of the best. It’s what happens when someone says, “Let’s actually write a good story with great characters that fans love,” and Disney shockingly lets them do it. Even still, not everything makes it out alive. Case in point: a cancelled Andor episode that sounds so good, it hurts. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tony Gilroy dropped a surprising reveal. “Dan Gilroy [Tony’s brother and Andor writer] wrote an amazing, entirely self-contained episode that was episode 209. It was an amazing episode that was like a horror movie. It was the K2 story. They had to bring this huge ugly tanker ship to Yavin, and there was a Kx unit that was trapped inside there hunting. It was sort of like a monster movie with K2 on it. It was really cool.” Yes, it would have been a Star Wars horror episode.

The monster screaming the loudest? The monster we've helped create, who will come for us all soon enough, is the heavy spoilers ahead for "Andor" season 2, episode 9.
"Star Wars" has a real Glup Shitto problem. The more the galaxy expands thanks to numerous new animated and live-action shows, video games, comics, books, and much more, so grows the temptation to try and connect it all via nods, Easter eggs, and cameos.
Take the way Dave Filoni continuously desecrates the medium of animation by bringing every single character he ever touched to the live-action MandoVerse (and even devoting an entire show to a cartoon character whose very existence makes increasingly less sense) via gratuitous cameos that more often than not distract from the main story. Sure, it's fun to see different parts of the franchise interact and tie into a larger narrative, but when it's at the expense of the quality of the current narrative,...

In the eighth episode of Andor season 2, "Who Are You?", Cassian Andor finally met K-2So. The Kx-series security droid's role was relatively small, but he was shown making short work of the innocent people living on Ghorman.
K-2So is moments away from killing the Rebel, and later taken back to Yavin, where he's rebooted and given a new, far less sinister personality. However, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character's introduction came later than expected and wasn't quite as big a moment as some fans hoped.

This article contains spoilers for "Andor."
As "Andor" season 2 barrels towards its inevitable conclusion and sets a new high water mark for "Star Wars" in the process, it'd be understandable for viewers to assume that creator Tony Gilroy and his writing team managed to pull off a heist of their own. After all, this is a season that has gotten away with depicting the Ghorman massacre in all its harrowing brutality, along with a dozen sequences and concepts that we've simply never seen from this franchise before. If any movie or series represented the idea of unfettered creative freedom within this beloved story about a galaxy far, far away ... it'd be this one, right?
Well, we now know that's only mostly true. Even the best and most acclaimed series in all of "Star Wars" had to make a few concessions along the way. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gilroy...

After obsessively hunting Diego Luna's Cassian Andor since the very first episode of Andor, Syril Karn finally got his hands on the Rebel pilot in season 2, episode 8 - but a moment's hesitation ended up costing him everything.
Towards the end of "Who Are You?," Syril learns the truth about the Empire's evil plans for Ghorman, and stumbles through the protestors in a daze before catching sight of Andor just as he's about to assassinate Dedra Meero.
Karn brutally attacks the man he views as his sworn enemy, ultimately managing to gain the upper hand when they are both knocked down by a nearby grenade blast. Syril is about to shoot his nemesis, but Andor's question - "who are you?" - causes him to hesitate, and he is shot dead by revolutionary leader Carro Rylanze.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Andor season 2!
Beloved Rogue One: A Star Wars Storydroid K-2So almost had a horror movie-like appearance in Andorseason 2. Since Rogue One, it's been clear that K-2So must have a fascinating backstory, given he was a reprogrammed Imperial droid who was now working for the Rebel cause alongside Cassian Andor. It wasn't clear whether that story would ever be explored in Star Wars movies and TV shows, particularly after he didn't appear in Andor season 1, but K-2So's backstory has finally been revealed in Andor season 2.
Evidently, though, the version of K-2So's backstory we see in Andor season 2 wasn't the original plan. Per Entertainment Weekly, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy explained that K-2So's Andor origin story was initially going to include "a monster movie" type of episode:

The second season of ‘Andor’ finally brought us the moment we’d been waiting for—the first meeting between Cassian Andor and the sharp-tongued droid K-2So. In episode 8, during the brutal Ghorman massacre, Diego Luna’s rebel hero crosses paths with Alan Tudyk’s reprogrammed Imperial droid in a tense, chaotic scene.
K-2So, sent to crush protesters, nearly ends Cassian’s life before a rebel transport pins the droid down. Cassian drags the powered-off K-2So to Yavin, where it’s rebooted into the sarcastic ally we know from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ It’s a bold introduction, but Tony Gilroy, the show’s creator, recently shared that this wasn’t the original plan.
Gilroy had a wilder idea for K-2So’s debut—a standalone episode penned by his brother Dan Gilroy that would’ve felt like a horror movie. Picture this: Cassian and rebels...

In episode 9 of Andor season 2, "Welcome to the Rebellion," Mon Mothma delivers a rousing speech to the Senate. In that, she challenges the Empire's account of what happened on Ghorman, and concludes by declaring, "The monster who will come for us all soon enough is Emperor Palpatine."
Cassian Andor then helps her escape the Isb agents out to silence her, and Mon heads to Yavin 4 to join the rest of the Rebellion.
It's an incredible hour of television, but somewhat contradicts Star Wars canon; in the animated Star Wars Rebels, Mon makes a different speech and broadcasts it across the Galaxy as she's transported to the Rebel stronghold by Gold Squadron.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com), showrunner Tony Gilroy says that he and writer Dan Gilroy felt constrained by having to adhere to Rebels' version of events, "We are hijacking canon," he admits. "In canon, she's rescued by...

Be ready to give up all chance at inner peace and make your mind a sunless space if you haven't watched episode 8 of "Andor" season 2, because there are major spoilers ahead.
One of the biggest magic tricks "Andor" pulls is make you forget it's a prequel. The problem with prequels is that, by knowing what's coming, the tension disappears. How can you surprise the audience when they know where things are headed? Where the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy focused almost entirely on just showing the origin of characters we knew and how they ended up where the audience first met them, "Andor" (and "Rogue One" before it) have a similar approach to the balancing act of the masterpiece that is "Better Call Saul."
Though we know where Cassian (Diego Luna), Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) end up, the surprises and tension rest on those characters whose fates we don't already know.

Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is moving from F1 to Miami Vice, as he signs up for the new movie.
If Tom Cruise really did “save Hollywood’s ass” – as Steven Spielberg is reputed to have told Tom Cruise in the wake of Top Gun: Maverick's incredible success in 2022 – then the film’s director Joseph Kosinski must also share in some of the acclaim for keeping the lights on.
The town has certainly been quick to reward Kosinski, too. Lots of studios have been keen to partner with the filmmaker on the two projects that he’s announced thus far: a Formula 1 racing movie coming this summer starring Brad Pitt (called F1) and an untitled UFO movie that will follow next.

Anthony Yerkovich and Michael Mann's original Miami Vice series has stood the test of time, with its unique spin on the police procedural making it worth rewatching 35 years later. The story of Miami Vice was also so engrossing to its producer, Michael Mann, that he directed a feature film adaptation of the series in 2006, starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Unfortunately, it received poor critical and audience reception. Now, another iteration is in the works, as Universal Pictures has recruited a new director and writer to help bring this new version of Miami Vice to life.

Filmmaker Joseph Kosinski's next big project has been revealed. After the immense success of Top Gun: Maverick, he's now going back to the past to bring back another franchise that was born in the 1980s.
Per Collider, Kosinski has been tapped by Universal Pictures to direct a new feature film based on Miami Vice. The new film will be written by Dan Gilroy, while Kosinski will also serve as a producer alongside Dylan Clark. Miami Vice is now expected to be Kosinski's next film following the June release of F1, the high-octane racing movie starring Brad Pitt. However, a release date hasn't yet been set for the film, and it remains unclear when filming might start. Because the project is early into production, no cast members are yet attached.
Kosinski may be best known for helming Top Gun: Maverick, which earned over $1 billion at the box office upon release in 2022 amid universal praise.

Joseph Kosinski is giving another iconic ’80s IP a contemporary twist. After helming “Top Gun: Maverick,” Kosinski will now be directing the “Miami Vice” reboot film, as THR reported. IndieWire has reached out to reps for Kosinski and Universal to confirm.
Kosinski, who also has “F1” at Apple, will collaborate with screenwriter Dan Gilroy for the feature. Kosinski’s version will be produced by Dylan Clark (“The Batman”).
“Miami Vice” was first an NBC TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover Miami police officers. Michael Mann, who served as a producer on the series, later brought the concept to the big screen in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the Universal Pictures film.
Kosinski recently told Deadline that his Formula 1 film “F1” is technically a sibling feature to “Top Gun: Maverick” with the stunts and camera work. “It’s the next generation from what we did on ‘Top Gun,...

If you're looking for a filmmaker to take a zeitgeist-y, high-octane, beloved slice of 80s pop culture and turn it into 21st century blockbuster gold, you could do far worse than hire the director who gave us Top Gun: Maverick. Which is why it makes perfect sense then that for their upcoming big screen retooling of synthed-out, super-stylised 80s NBC cop show Miami Vice, Universal Pictures have done precisely that. Yes, as reported by Deadline, none other than Joseph Kosinski is set to helm the studio's new Miami Vice movie, the first since Michael Mann's 2006 effort starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.
Penned by Nightcrawler writer-director — and brother of Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy — Dan Gilroy, apparently this take on Miami Vice, which at its core is about two sharply dressed undercover detectives busting drug dealers on the Miami strip while listening to bona fide era appropriate bangers, has been in the offing for sometime.

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is set to direct a Miami Vice remake for Universal Pictures. Nightcrawler scribe Dan Gilroy will write the script for the big screen project, an adaptation of the classic ’80s TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover cops. Bring on the pastels!
Kosinski will also produce the project through Monolith, and Dylan Clark will also produce through Dylan Clark Productions. This won’t be the first time Crockett and Tubbs have made their way to the big screen. Michael Mann directed a remake in 2006, which starred Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Although the film received mixed reviews at the time, not to mention a lackluster box office, it has since become a cult favourite.

Collider can confirm that Universal Pictures has tapped Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) to direct a new Miami Vice feature film, with Dan Gilroy writing the script. “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski is set to direct a “Miami Vice” remake for Universal Pictures.
Dan Gilroy is adapting the screenplay. Though plot details haven’t been revealed, the movie is based the 1980s TV series, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives in South Florida. The neon-hued show ran on NBC for five seasons from 1984-1989. A film version was first attempted in 2006, with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell leading the cast and Michael Mann (who produced the original series) behind the camera. Though it became a cult favorite over time, the “Miami Vice” movie flopped in its theatrical run, grossing $165 million against a reported $135 million budget.
Casting has yet to be announced. In addition to directing, Kosinski will produce through his company, Monolith. Dylan Clark, who worked with Kosinski on 2016’s post-apocalyptic action thriller “Oblivion” as well as the Matt Reeves-directed “Planet of the Apes” series,...

Universal Pictures has set Joseph Kosinski to direct Miami Vice, a drama based on the iconic ’80s NBC series about undercover cops taking down drug dealers. Dan Gilroy is rewriting a first draft script by Eric Warren Singer. No cast yet. Dylan Clark is producing along with Kosinski.
They’ve been percolating this one for a bit, and Kosinski has one of the summer buzz titles in the Brad Pitt-starring Formula One movie F1 made by Apple and headed for theaters through Warner Bros. He’s expected next to reteam with F1 producer Jerry Bruckheimer for an untitled UFO project at Apple, and this will come after. Kosinski and Bruckheimer also teamed on Top Gun: Maverick.
Hatched by NBC topper Brandon Tartikoff, who sent a note essentially asking for a cop drama with the flash of MTV that was so popular at the time, the series was created by Anthony Yerkovich.

Joseph Kosinski is headed to Miami. The filmmaker behind the $1.49 billion hit Top Gun: Maverick is attached to direct a Miami Vice movie for Universal, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy is penning the script, from an earlier draft by Top Gun: Maverick scribe Eric Warren Singer, who had to move on to commitments on Amazon MGM Studios’ Best of Enemies, starring Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper. The Batman producer Dylan Clark is producing through Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski producing through Monolith.
Miami Vice began life as the Anthony Yerkovich-created TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover Miami police officers known for their love of pastel suits. (“The ambition of the show was to break the form of everything that had come before,” executive producer Michael Mann told THR last year of the series, which ran from 1984-90 on NBC.

Beau Willimon, the showrunner behind “House of Cards” and writer of “Andor,” says he is very proud of the second season of the “Star Wars” franchise instalment. Speaking at an industry event at Canneseries, the producer said writing the Disney+ series is “like being a session musician on someone’s album,” praising his creative collaborator and series creator Tony Gilroy.
“Tony helped me on ‘House of Cards’ for a couple of seasons as a consulting producer to give me notes on the scripts and became a good friend and mentor,” he recalled. “When he was developing ‘Andor,’ he asked if I wanted to write a few episodes and I thought he was joking because I grew up with and love ‘Star Wars’ but I’m not an aficionado. He said, ‘the less you know, the better because I want to tell a human story and a grown-up story.’”

Andor has always been viewed as something of an outlier in the Star Wars universe for its more mature themes and serious, grounded vibe, but this week's three-episode season 2 premiere pushed the envelope to a place many found uncomfortable and maybe even unnecessary.
Spoilers follow.
In episode 3, Imperial officer, Lt. Krole (Alex Waldmann), shows up at the home of Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), who has been working as an "undocumented" engineer on the agrarian planet Mina-Rau for the past year. Krole attempts to force himself on Bix, who manages to fight him off with a few blows to the head, killing him in the process.
Just to hammer home what viewers were witnessing, Bix shouts at another officer who orders her to surrender, “He tried to rape me!”
“I remember reading that, and within the truth of that moment of the abuse of power, being really scared to go into that scene,...

After years of campaigning from industry folks and critics alike, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this month that they will be adding a Stunt Design category for its 100th Oscar ceremony in 2028. Something tells me we might get new Mission Impossible, John Wick or Fast and Furious installments in 2027.
Those stunt-driven franchises have been some of the most reliable box office highlights this past decade that aren’t draped in spandex. Seeing death being defied is still one of the most reliable ways to get people to go to the theater. It’s been that way since Buster Keaton. It transcends culture and language, which is why Jackie Chan can become one of the planet’s biggest stars and why The Raid, a film made for $1 million in Indonesia, could become a world-wide success.

Star Wars has had a rough run of late — the last theatrical release in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, was derided by longtime fans and underwhelmed at the box office in 2019 — save for one shining property: Andor, creator Tony Gilroy’s acclaimed exploration of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story breakout character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in the years before he helped steal the plans for the Death Star and jumpstart the Rebel Alliance. The Emmy Award-nominated series returns this week for its second and final season with rave reviews and building enthusiasm among its fans. Andor Season 2 picks up one year after the events of Season 1, with the title character building his legend. The 12-episode season covers four years in total (every three-episode block tracks one year in the story), and will run right into the beginning of Rogue One.
Ahead are some instant Emmy predictions for Andor.

I’ve never sat down to watch a Star Wars property and thought to myself, “what this franchise needs is more intimate partner violence, child marriage, and attempted sexual assault.” All of that is in the Disney+ show, Andor season 2.
Somehow, that’s just skimming the surface of how lazy and backward the entire season is. For a show that’s releasing in the year 2025, the overarching sentiment is of a bygone era—one that even manages to outmatch some of the problematic elements of the original Star Wars trilogy.
Like its predecessor, Andor season 2 is broken up into four chapters of three episodes each. However, this time around, there’s a time jump between each chapter as the show attempts to lead us straight to the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In its haste to get there, unfortunately, the story, the characters, and especially Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) himself,...

We're just one day away from the three-episode premiere of Andor Season 2 on Disney+, and the reviews are coming in fast for the finale of what's undoubtedly been one of the best Star Wars TV shows of all time. Does the conclusion live up to the expectations set by Season 1? According to Rotten Tomatoes, the answer is a resounding yes! Thus far, Season 2 has managed to surpass the score of its predecessor by two points, and is Certified Fresh with a 98% at the time of this writing.

Although the story of Andor, as good as it is, has been told multiple times, I think it bears repetition because of how mind-blowing it actually is. Rogue One was undoubtedly fantastic, and appreciation for the work done by Gareth Edwards and his team has only grown with each passing year. But I don’t think you’d look at a cast that has Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, and Forest Whitaker in it and decide to make an entire show around Diego Luna’s character, especially since they all died at the end of that film. On top of that, when the show was about to be released, excitement for anything new from the franchise was at an all-time low due to the laughably bad The Mandalorian Season 2, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, as soon as we set foot into the incredibly...

Tony Gilroy was barely on set for “Andor” Season 2. The series’ head writer and showrunner finished his scripts about a week before the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike began, forcing writers into a state of “radio silence.” When the strike ended and Gilroy returned to work, something amazing waited for him: 12 fully shot episodes.
“You’re always in the cutting room on a show, in a movie, and inevitably, you’re at the point where you say, ‘Man, I’d pay $50,000 if I could see my movie for the first time,'” Gilroy told IndieWire ahead of the show’s Season 2 premiere. “I got to watch all 12 episodes on the run with the freshest eyes I could ever imagine, and I got to watch it as the audience would see it.”

Exciting news for fans of action and style: Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly in talks to direct a brand-new Miami Vice movie for Universal Pictures. This update was shared by trusted insider Daniel Richtman on his Patreon page.
The movie is still in early talks, but it already has some big names attached. Along with Kosinski as director, the script will be written by Dan Gilroy. Gilroy is known for his work on Nightcrawler, a dark and intense thriller that received critical acclaim. With Kosinski’s eye for visuals and Gilroy’s strong storytelling, this could be a powerful team-up.
Miami Vice was first a hit TV show in the 1980s. It was known for its cool style, neon colors, fast cars, and unforgettable music. It followed two detectives—Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs—as they took on drug dealers and criminals in the streets of Miami.

Andor is set to return to Disney+ for its highly-anticipated second (and final) season on April 22, and Lucasfilm has now released the first official clip from the three-episode premiere.
In this action-packed preview, we see Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) attempting to escape from an Imperial facility (possibly a Star Destroyer) after commandeering a Tie Fighter. As Stormtroopers rush into the hangar and begin to open fire, Andor figures out how to use the craft's weapons and cuts down most of his enemies.
Only one bazooka-wielding trooper remains, but Andor is out of missiles.
Check out the clip at the link below, along with a new social media spot focusing on Ben Mendelsohn's returning Director Orson Krennic.
That could’ve gone smoother.

The fate of Cassian Andor was sealed in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Diego Luna would get the opportunity to revisit the character two more times with the Andor spin-off prequel on Disney+. Deadline reports on Luna’s bittersweet departure from a galaxy far, far away as the actor reflected on finishing the arc after this upcoming season of Andor.
On the red carpet at the premiere of the season at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre, Luna says,
I said goodbye to this character when we wrapped. I had a beautiful opportunity to talk to the crew, to talk to the cast. [Creator] Tony Gilroy gave these beautiful words, we had a drink, we hugged, we cried. I’m going to miss this family.”

Disney+ and Lucasfilm have shared a new trailer and poster for Andor season 2 (via SFFGazette.com) ahead of the show's long-awaited return on April 22.
This sneak peek sets the stage for the war between the Rebels and the Empire to be taken to the next level leading into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
We see plenty of Ben Mendelsohn's villainous Director Orson Krennic as he continues to work on the Death Star and several other familiar faces...including a whole platoon of Kx-series security droids, at least of which must be K-2So.
Season 1 was a critical hit and excitement for this second batch of episodes (which had been on track to premiere last summer before 2023's Hollywood strikes) is through the roof.
