The Star Trek franchise has seen multiple crews handle spaceships and go where no man has ever gone before. However, Voyager seems to be the only one that had to chart a course back to Earth instead of its traditional exploratory travel. Transferred to a different dimension and led by Captain Janeway, the Voyager had to travel for years.
While The Next Generation enjoyed global success and Deep Space Nine developed a cult following later, Voyager seemed to strike a balance with its popularity. Many have appreciated its storylines, which came back to the episodic format after DS9. However, fans have found another reason for its greatness: there are three Roberts in the main cast.

"Star Trek: Enterprise" ran for four seasons between 2001 and 2005. A prequel set in the 22nd century before Captain Kirk or the Federation, "Enterprise" also holds an embarrassing dishonor. It was the first "Trek" series since the original to not make it to seven seasons and more than 100 episodes. ("Enterprise" barely missed the mark at 98.) That, and a not-so-stellar first half, mean that "Enterprise" has a black sheep reputation. "Enterprise" didn't kill "Star Trek" — J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" film came out only four years later — but it did end 18 years of new "Trek" being continuously produced.
For "Enterprise" co-creator Brannon Braga, that hiatus wasn't the worst thing for "Star Trek."
"I thought it was time, ['Star Trek'] needed a break, it needed some time for people to want another show," said Braga at the STLV17 convention. "Enterprise" wasn't the show that made people want more, but it could've been.

Red Squad, the elite Starfleet Academy cadets in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, were so much worse than their Star Trek: The Next Generation counterparts, Nova Squadron. In Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5, episode 19, "The First Duty", Nova Squadron members are investigated after attempting the dangerous Kolvoord Starburst maneuver that results in the death of their teammate, Joshua Albert. Nicholas Locarno (Robert Duncan McNeill) pushes Nova Squadron members Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton), Sito Jaxa (Shannon Fill), and Jean Hajar (Walker Brandt), to cover up their involvement, and the fact the maneuver had been Locarno's idea.
Although Nova Squadron disbanded after Wesley came clean about Josh's death, Red Squad takes Nova Squadron's place in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's season 4 2-parter, "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost". Starfleet Academy's Red Squad is enlisted by Admiral Leyton (Robert Foxworth) to sabotage Earth's power grid, enabling Leyton to enact martial law. Leyton resigns,...

Evil Vulcans became the enemy in Star Trek: Enterprise, just as corrupt Klingons were often the enemies in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Vulcans and Klingons both made their debut on Star Trek: The Original Series, which established many elements about their species. However, with the episodic nature of 1960s television, Tos did not spend much time developing complex cultural histories for the alien species it introduced. Tos would reveal hints about the Vulcans when it pertained to a specific storyline involving Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and the Klingons served as general enemies for Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) to oppose.
Initially, Gene Roddenberry wanted Star Trek: The Next Generation to steer away from aliens like Vulcans and Klingons to differentiate itself from Star Trek: The Original Series. For example, Roddenberry did not want Lt. Worf (Michael Dorn) to be a main character, but the Klingon nevertheless proved popular with fans.

While Dallas and Dynasty might have very concrete cultural icons and high points, and Knots Landing offers multiple places to start watching depending on what kind of show you’re interested in, Falcon Crest only has one place to kick off watching if you don’t want to do it from Season One, Episode One.
The Grapes of Boredom
Falcon Crest premiered on December 4, 1981, with Dallas, a year post-Who Shot Jr? as its lead-in. It should have been a massive hit. And it did well enough. Except for one minor problem: It was kind of boring.
Following his father’s mysterious death, Chase (Robert Foxworth) returns to the Tuscany Valley, his wife, and two grown kids in tow to battle with his aunt Angela (Jane Wyman) for the family grapes and winery. Angela snarled, Chase self-righteously pontificated, and his wife, Maggie (Susan Sullivan), simpered. Chase’s son, Cole (William R. Moses...

Did you miss the 1980s? Have you only heard about the golden age of primetime soaps? Do you know who shot Jr? Are you familiar with The Abby Scale (Abby being a 10)? What was the Moldovan wedding massacre? If not, it’s time to find out. And if you do understand all the above references, well, it’s time to relive the big hair, the big shoulder pads, and the big personalities of primetime soaps’ greatest decade. We start with the show that never got the acclaim and buzz of its sister soaps, but it was worth watching then, and it is definitely worth watching now that all seasons are available on Amazon Prime — Falcon Crest!

Star Trek: Prodigy fixes Starfleet Academy's elite cadets problem by embodying true Starfleet ideals. Prodigy's Nova Squadron is elite but not elitist, showcasing kindness and humility. Elite cadets can be flawed yet heroic, as seen in Star Trek's new class of heroes in the 2380s.

Benjamin Sisko's time aboard the USS Saratoga before Deep Space Nine shaped his character and motivations, particularly following the tragic loss of his first wife Jennifer at the Battle of Wolf 359. Sisko's experiences on the Saratoga made him a valuable mentor to Lt. Commander Worf, who also struggled to find purpose after the destruction of the USS Enterprise-d. The USS Saratoga has appeared in different iterations throughout the Star Trek universe, including encounters with the Klingons, an alien probe, and even a different version of the ship during Sisko's assignment to Deep Space Nine.
Two years before he became Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's commanding officer, Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) served aboard the ill-fated USS Saratoga. T'Pol's role in revealing the Vulcans' treachery made Enterprise's portrayal of them as villains effective and compelling. T'Pol's loyalty shifted from Vulcan to Starfleet after witnessing the secret listening station, leading to a major transformation in her character throughout the series. T'Pol's growth and internal conflict as a Vulcan grappling with her people's corruption added depth to the storyline and resonated with fans, making Enterprise's depiction of the Vulcans successful.
Star Trek: Enterprise turning the Vulcans into villains was a controversial move, but it worked because of T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) in Enterprise season 1, episode 7, "The Andorian Incident." Enterprise is a prequel to the rest of Star Trek, but it's set 88 years after humans and Vulcans formally met each other in Star Trek: First Contact. Enterprise broke the belief that the relationship between Earth and Vulcan was smooth sailing after Dr. Zephram Cochrane's (James Cromwell) historic First Contact in 2063.

Vulcan villains in Star Trek often act out of a fanatical devotion to Vulcan logic or a struggle to suppress their emotions. The Vulcans in Star Trek: Enterprise had a darker side, exemplified by a Vulcan monastery spying on Andorians. Administrator V'Las of Vulcan High Command in Star Trek: Enterprise was willing to betray his own people and ally with Romulans to defeat the Andorians.
The Vulcans have been a core part of the Federation from the very beginning, but they've not always been a positive influence as these Vulcan Star Trek villains demonstrate. The Vulcans were the first alien species created by Gene Roddenberry for Star Trek and were immortalized by Leonard Nimoy's Spock. There have been several notable Vulcans across the whole franchise, from Sub Commander T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) in Star Trek: Enterprise to Provisional Lieutenant T'Lyn (Gabrielle Ruiz) in Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Key Takeaways: Many Starfleet Admirals in Star Trek have become corrupt or made nefarious choices, suggesting a failure in background checks or extensive corruption within Starfleet Command. Promoting officers to the rank of Admiral can lead to career stagnation and serious lapses in judgment. Admirals like Vice Admiral Leyton, Admiral Mark Jameson, and Vice Admiral Kennelly have all displayed questionable actions and manipulations in their roles, highlighting the potential dangers of promoting individuals who will misuse their powers.
There's a suspiciously high number of evil Starfleet Admirals in Star Trek, which suggests that many of these promotions were huge mistakes. Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) once advised Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) not to let Starfleet put him behind a desk with a promotion. It was a prescient warning, given the extensive list of corrupt Starfleet Admirals whose biggest crime may have been losing touch with the world outside Starfleet Command.

Star Trek: Enterprise's showrunner, Manny Coto, identified the Vulcans as one of the biggest core issues that undermined the prequel series in Peter Holmstrom's oral history, The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek. Star Trek: Enterprise ran for four seasons on the United Paramount Network from 2001-2005. The series was low-rated and succumbed to Star Trek franchise fatigue as well as a regime change in the struggling Upn Network. However, Enterprise has since found a new, more appreciative audience after the series became available for streaming.
Enterprise was set about a century after Star Trek: First Contact when Dr. Zephram Cochrane's (James Cromwell) inaugural warp flight caught the attention of nearby Vulcans. Yet Enterprise revealed that the relationship between humans and Vulcans was not smooth sailing. After United Earth established Starfleet and built the Nx-01 Enterprise, humanity's first warp 5-capable starship, the Vulcans warned Man was not ready to explore deep space.

The three-part Vulcan saga in Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 explained why the 22nd century era Vulcans feared humans. The Enterprise season 4 episodes "The Forge," "Awakening," and "Kir'Shara," introduced the younger version of Star Trek: The Original Series icon T'Pau (Kara Zediker). With the help of Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and T'Pol (Jolene Blalock), T'Pau was able to restore the teachings of Surak and expose a conspiracy between the Vulcan High Command and the Romulan Star Empire.
In Star Trek's timeline, Enterprise picks up less than a century after the events of Star Trek: First Contact, when Dr. Zephram Cochrane (James Cromwell) achieved Mankind's first successful warp flight, which brought the curious Vulcans to Earth. In Enterprise's mid-22nd century, however, relations between humans and Vulcans were far from idyllic. United Earth's Starfleet, and Captain Archer in particular, were hostile toward Vulcans, who they felt were restricting human ambition to explore the galaxy.

Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 reintroduced T'Pau (Kara Zediker), the younger version of the revered Vulcan icon played by Celia Lovsky in Star Trek: The Original Series. T'Pau was crucial to the Enterprise season 4 Vulcan-centric three-episode story arc, "The Forge," "Awakening," and "KirShara." Those episodes also featured notable guest stars in Robert Foxworth, who previously played Admiral Leyton on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as Administrator V'Las, and Todd Stashwick, who now embodies Captain Liam Shaw in Star Trek: Picard season 3, as Talok.

Robert Foxworth has the distinction of portraying an evil Admiral in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and an evil Vulcan in Star Trek: Enterprise. Corrupt or outright diabolical Starfleet Admirals are a well-established trope in Star Trek, but Foxworth's Admiral Leyton is one of the most memorable. Meanwhile, Vulcans are meant to be loyal allies of Starfleet, but Foxworth's devious Administrator V'Las predates the founding of the United Federation of Planets. In both cases, Foxworth was a standout Star Trek guest star, and in each role, he played the heavy in multi-episode arcs.
A veteran actor of stage and screen, Robert Foxworth is perhaps best known for playing Chase Gioberti on Falcon Crest from 1981-1987. Foxworth easily slid into Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 4 in 1996 because already had sci-fi experience in worlds created by Gene Roddenberry. Picture this: you're deep in the woods, alone save for your family, enjoying the silent majesty of a secluded night in nature while all manner of creatures great and small slumber peacefully around you. Most importantly, you're snug inside a yellow sleeping bag, looking for all the world like a giant banana.
Then, suddenly and without warning, a mutant killer bear emerges from the woods, its gaping maw looking like it's melting as it bellows an unholy roar and attacks. Trapped in your banana bag, you helplessly try to run away like you're in the world's worst potato sack race. It's all for nought, as the bear reaches out with one measly swipe of its paw, and you fly through the air only to hit a rock and shatter into a million feathery pieces.

The Changelings were one of the biggest threats in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine due in part to their ability to take the form of anything from furniture to animals to members of the DS9 crew. This gave the Changelings - known as the Founders of the Dominion - the upper hand both before and during the Dominion War, as they were able to infiltrate key targets within the Alpha Quadrant. As the Dominion and their Cardassian allies sought to subjugate the "solids" in the Alpha Quadrant, the Founders took the form of some high-profile DS9 characters.
The Changelings' unmatched ability to infiltrate and impersonate led to paranoia and distrust within the United Federation of Planets. This resulted in an attempted military coup led by Admiral Leyton (Robert Foxworth), Captain Benjamin Sisko's (Avery Brooks) commanding officer. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine picked up one of Wesley Crusher's best stories from Star Trek: The Next Generation and enhanced its core themes, making it even better. One of Star Trek Into Darkness' major plot points is that Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) was manipulated by Section 31, which is a lot like how Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) was a pawn of Section 31 on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Section 31, the United Federation of Planets' secret black ops network, is arguably the most enduring concept DS9 created, and it's popped up on other shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks. But Star Trek Into Darkness seemingly took the Dr. Bashir Section 31 story wholesale and grafted it onto the Kelvin Timeline's Khan.
In Star Trek Into Darkness' backstory, Khan was revived by Admiral Alexander Marcus (Peter Weller), the head of Section 31. Marcus planned to militarize Starfleet to win a war with the Klingons. Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Lower Decks' Season 3 Finale - "The Stars At Night"The finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3 revisited a classic, and infamous, Starfleet Admiral trope: Vice Admiral Les Buenamigo (Carlos Alazraqui) was evil all along. This post contains spoilers for the season finale of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
In the last episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," the U.S.S. Cerritos found themselves under attack by a small armada of Breen warships. The California-class vessel was severely outmatched, and was at risk of being destroyed when a heretofore unseen starship, the U.S.S. Aledo, swooped in, destroyed the attackers and saved the day. The Aledo, it is later revealed, was an experimental Texas-class starship that was run entirely by artificial intelligence. There was no crew on board. The Texas class was the brainchild of one Vice Admiral Buen Amigo (Carlos Alazraqui), who sought to reduce both casualties and any human error in Starfleet by essentially replacing its officers with drones.
As any good Trekkie knows, creating an artificially intelligent machine is an enormous can of worms on "Star Trek," and giving both A.

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend (or regular weekend for those of you outside of the States). We’re back today with a brand new round-up of horror and sci-fi home media releases that are headed home today, and it includes quite the array of titles. One of my favorite movies of the year - Everything Everywhere All At Once from The Daniels - is being released to 4K as well as Blu-ray and DVD and if you’re looking to indulge in even more 4K entertainment, Edge of Tomorrow is also getting the 4K treatment, too.
Kino Lorber is keeping busy this week with an array of classic titles headed to Blu, including Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo, Ants! (aka It Happened at Lakewood Manor) and Terror Out of the Sky (aka Revenge of the Savage Bees), and IFC is also releasing Ruth Paxton’s...

Producer Rod Roddenberry ("Star Trek: Discovery") continues developing a remake of Gene Roddenberry's TV movie "The Questor Tapes", based on the novel by D.C. Fontana, about an android (Robert Foxworth) with incomplete memory tapes, who searches for his creator:
"...'Project Questor' is the brainchild of 'Emil Vaslovik', who develops plans to build a superhuman android with a team of the world's foremost experts. Attempts to decode the programming tape were unsuccessful, with approximately half of the tape erased.
"The team then decides to substitute their own programming, over the objections of 'Jerry Robinson' (Mike Farrell), the only team member who actually had worked with the mysterious inventor. But he is overruled by the head of the project, 'Geoffrey Darro' (John Vernon).
"When the android has been finished, the new tape is loaded, with no results. In desperation, Robinson persuades Darro to allow Vaslovik's tape — what remains of it — to be loaded.

John Frankenheimer’s 1979 environmental horror movie comes to Blu-ray, flaws and all. Brace yourself.
The 1979 film Prophecy (not to be confused with 1995’s Biblical horror movie The Prophecy) was very much the last gasp of the 1970s boom in ecologically tinged genre movies. It was a string of titles that included No Blade of Grass (1970), Silent Running (1972) and Soylent Green (1973), but leaned especially heavily on the “nature strikes back” subgenre, which gave us such offerings as Frogs (1972), Night of the Lepus (1972), Bug (1975), The Food of the Gods (1976), Day of the Animals (1977) and other, often low-budget quasi-exploitation quickies.
Prophecy on its face seemed to have more going for it. The director was John Frankenheimer, the man behind masterworks like The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, and Seconds, while the writer was David Seltzer, fresh off his horror classic The Omen. Paramount sunk $12 million into the film, which...

Listen I have nothing against ants – rubber tree plants, veracity, etc – but put enough of them together and I get nervous. Radiate them? You get the big ass ones in Them! (1954). Delve into cosmic circumstance and you have the smarty pants overlords of Phase IV (1974). Throw a bunch on the television, make them poisonous and you end up with The Love Boat meets The Towering Inferno goofiness of Robert Scheerer’s It Happened at Lakewood Manor (1977), a pretty silly and damn entertaining TV flick.

What’s your earliest horror memory, the moment you were irreversibly scarred yet knew you had to see and know more? Which one imprinted on you at a stupidly impressionable age? Do you remember? Because I never could; save for one indelible image burned on my psyche at the age of five, I have searched, asked, and pleaded with so many people what possible movie could have done this to me as a child. Until last night that is, when I stumbled upon The Devil’s Daughter (1973), an ABC TV movie that finally put a name to the image, even if I did somewhat misremember it. Time plus kindertrauma equals new memories, I guess? Yay to ongoing decrepitude!
Originally airing on January 9th as an ABC Tuesday Movie of the Week, The Devil’s Daughter was up against Hawaii Five-o over on CBS while NBC rolled out their own Tuesday Night at the Movies.

Juliette counts down ten terrible Admirals that Starfleet must have been mad to promote...
You would think Starfleet would be very careful about who they promote to Admiral, running numerous psychological tests, only promoting those with a solid track record as Captain and keeping a close eye on them for signs of inappropriate behaviour. But no. Based on the evidence of this sorry lot, Starfleet generally just promote whoever happens to be in the vicinity and looks good in the fancy uniform.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s 1970s made-for-tv horror films. I remember sitting in front of the television as a kid and watching a plethora of films such as Gargoyles, Bad Ronald, Satan’s School for Girls, Horror at 37,000 Feet, Devil Dog: Hound of Hell, Scream Pretty Peggy, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Moon of the Wolf and The Initiation of Sarah just to name a few. I know it may be a bit peculiar to review a sequel without doing a retrospective of a whole series of films, but I actually have never seen this one. I watched it and the third movie “The Final Conflict” with Sam Neill back to back. While I haven’t seen the fourth entry, I can say this is probably the last one that has the feel of the original. I can compare this to “Jaws 2”. While not as powerful as the original, it still seems like it exists in the same world. Also like all the “Jaws” sequels after part two,...

‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ review: Michael Bay’s latest ‘Transformers’ movie is ‘the least aggravating of a very aggravating lot’ (photo: Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’) Suffice it to say, there are many special effects in the Transformers movies of which Transformers: Age of Extinction is the latest and, get ready for some high praise, the least aggravating of a very aggravating lot. In fact, its greatest special effect, much like the previous three films, is its ability to deflect all criticism; these movies are not just critic proof, they’re quality proof. As long as the Autobots or Decepticons or emoticons or Comic-Cons or whatever they’re called keep laying waste to cities and brain cells, its target audience of global fanboys and Viacom shareholders will be sated and the rest of us can go down with the ship watching some arthouse limited release.

Well, Michael Bay has done it again. The master of “Bayhem” has pulled out all the stops in the latest of the Transformers series, with several gigantic setpieces, at least 5 villains, Hong Kong action, car chases, new robots, new sports cars, and an all new cast. From 2007 to 2011, we got a new Transformers installment every other year, all of which followed the story of the Witwicky character portrayed by Shia Labeouf. These films are famous for their incredible robot battle scenes, big explosions, and for introducing the world to Megan Fox. Borrowing many storylines directly from the cartoon series, the trilogy was a hugely successful franchise due mostly to the vision of Bay and his talent for making visual chaos fun and entertaining. The first Transformers film in particular was a crowd-pleasing mixture of realistic depictions of infantry warfare, a nice sense of humor, and fanboy fantasy.

Director Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction opens in theaters this Friday, June 27th and it’s poised to have a mega-opening weekend.
Here’s what the early reviews are saying about the return of the colossal titans:
Variety -
“As the sine qua non of the franchise, it’s the robots — endowed here with character-rich physicality and almost human-scaled facial features — who give the film its emotional heft. Optimus Prime’s charismatic leadership of his team, as well as his unwavering compassion for the humans, again makes him the movie’s moral anchor. Drift, with his samurai getup and Watanabe’s dignified line readings, strikes a neat balance with Goodman’s cigar-chewing, wisecracking Hound. Still, the character most likely to be beloved by audiences, especially tykes, remains Bumblebee.”
