Modern Family’s Missed Opportunity Is Mitch Actually Bonding With Jay Over Something
Image
Modern Family is a breath of fresh air, and it redefined what sitcoms could be. With its mockumentary-style delivery and diverse cast, the show had so much humor and heart that one simply couldn’t get enough of it.

Among all the colour characters was Mitchell Pritchett, the slightly neurotic but sharp-tongued lawyer, who was the perfect match to his theatrical partner Cameron. Their relationship normalized same-sex relationships on television, and even though they took a daring step, there’s one emotional arc that could have added more to the show.

Mitch and Jay Pritchett in Modern Family: A relationship of distance and longing A still from Modern Family | Credits: 20th Century Fox Television

Jesse Tyler Ferguson did an excellent job of portraying the witty Mitchell Pritchett, aka Mitch, in Modern Family. He is shown as a by-the-book environmental lawyer with a nervous laugh. Mitch is practical, a bit introverted,...

Cannes: Indie Film Investors Bet on New Theatrical Company 1-2 Special (Exclusive)
Image
The indie film world is betting on 1-2 Special.

The spanking new U.S. theatrical distributor has closed its first round of equity financing, securing backing from a group of private investors led by Alex Lo’s Cinema Inutile. Anita Gou’s Kindred Spirit, Chris Quintos Cathcart and Tyler Boehm’s Unapologetic Projects, and Bill and Mary Way’s Fit Via Vi are also first-round investors in New York-based 1-2.

Launched by former Sideshow executive Jason Hellerstein in February, 1-2 Special is set up as a theatrical-first, all rights distributor, dedicated to “acquiring and releasing exceptional films from top-tier domestic and international festivals.” 1-2 picked up its first feature, Kontinental ’25, from acclaimed Romanian director Radu Jude (Bad Luck Banging, Or Looney Porn) out of the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival. With its coffers full of Pe cash, we expect 1-2 will be an active buyer in Cannes.

Its Time We Talk About Modern Family’s Problematic Treatment of TV’s Favorite Gay Couple – Mitch and Cam
Image
When Modern Family premiered in 2009, Mitch and Cam were pioneering network TV’s first prominent gay couple raising a child. At that time, LGBTQ representation was rare, which made their presence felt revolting, a sign of shifting norms. But rewatching the show today, their depiction raises uncomfortable thoughts.

While the series supported LGBTQ+ visibility, it somewhat did so through a lens of subtle homophobia, reducing Mitch and Cam to stereotypes rather than letting them evolve as authentically as the straight couples.

Unlike the rest of the couples, Mitch and Cam’s relationship was frequently reduced to humor rooted in tired tropes rather than authentic character development through most of the seasons.

How were they in a Stereotype Trap? A still of Mitch and Cam from Modern Family.Credits: ABC.

From the series few dynamics can be analysed to understand the Stereotypical setting Mitch and Cam’s relationship is portrayed in.

"Don't Talk to Me": Joshua Jackson Jokes About His Relationship With His 'Dawson's Creek' Co-Stars
Image
Joshua Jacksonhas become one of our biggest stars. His new show, Doctor Odyssey, is making waves, but he started his career on a beloved teen drama. Jackson became a fan favorite on Dawson's Creek as Pacey Witter, a sarcastic teenager who would rather make a joke than apply himself in school. He had a rough home life, was called a "loser" by his own parents, but still found love with Joey Potter (Katie Holmes). Throughout the years, fans have loved Joey and Pacey's relationship, and now Jackson is updating people on where the cast of Dawson's Creek all stand with each other.

Jackson, who dated Holmes in real life, shared in a new interview that the cast all came together recently for James Van Der Beek. But Jackson told the Dinner's on Me podcast, hosted by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, that even if the cast doesn't always call each other,...

One Underrated ‘Modern Family’ Star Who Faced the Same Unfair Fate as Friends’ Courteney Cox
Image
Award shows don’t always get it right, and sometimes, they miss big. Just ask Courteney Cox. While Friends turned its entire cast into global superstars, Cox remained the only main star who was never even nominated for an Emmy. Despite anchoring some of the show’s most iconic moments, her portrayal of Monica Geller was consistently overlooked while her co-stars racked up accolades.

It’s a frustrating pattern that TV fans know all too well. In ensemble comedies, there’s always that one actor who gives everything, shapes the show’s heart, and still doesn’t get their due. A legendary character from Modern Family found himself in the same bittersweet situation.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson: the unsung hero of ‘Modern Family’

While Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet received widespread recognition for their roles, Jesse Tyler Ferguson quietly became one of Modern Family’s most reliable sources of humor.

Alleged Subtle Homophobia in Modern Family Despite The Show Featuring Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet’s Same Sex Romance
Image
Modern Family fans aren’t gonna like this! But the show that earned our love and appreciation is alleged to have gotten away with homophobic content. Yes, the same show that was groundbreaking in portraying a same sex couple as its central characters.

Well, it isn’t just the subtle homophobia that was pointed out by a fan. They also alleged that the sitcom had some racist and misogynistic content. Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd’s ABC sitcom followed the lives of the diverse Pritchett family.

Jay Pritchett, the patriarch of the family, is married to his second wife, Gloria, a Latina woman. Claire, his daughter, is married to the lovable and goofy Phil Dunphy. And Mitchell, Jay’s son, is gay and married to Cam. While Mitchell and Cam’s relationship gets a lot of praise, the fan noted the amount of homophobic content made at their expense.

"It Felt Kind Of Unfair" Matt Bomer Opens Up On Being Outed Before He Was Ready
Image
Matt Bomer currently stars in the Hulu show Mid-Century Modern, where he plays an out and proud gay man. But when he was first making a name for himself as an actor, it was a totally different world for an LGBT person.

Bomer recently appeared on the Dinner's On Me podcast with Jesse Tyler Ferguson (via Entertainment Weekly), who is another gay star, and got to talking about those difficult early years. He believed that prior to 2012, when he publicly came out, "folks could kind of take over your own personal narrative before you even had a chance to." The worst offenders were "outlets like Perez Hilton" who "talk[ed] about my personal life before I had ever had a chance to even do it myself. And it wasn't because I didn't want to; I didn't even have an opportunity to."

The Magic Mike actor never once hid the fact that...

15 Best Modern Family Episodes Ranked
Image
In an age of sitcom reboots and sequels, is it too much to ask for one more season of "Modern Family" at some point? The hit ABC sitcom with a stellar ensemble cast ran for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020, and it will likely be remembered as the last family sitcom to dominate broadcast television before streaming gobbled everything up. It explored the love lives, parenting styles, and relationships of three couples within the same non-traditional (at least by 2009 standards) family tree.

Sadly, unless that rumored Rob Riggle spin-off somehow presents co-creator Steven Levitan with his golden opportunity to write the next great multi-cam sitcom, we've likely seen all we ever will of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker-Marshall family. But before you rush off to watch one of the many great shows that followed in its footsteps, let's revisit the 15 best "Modern Family" episodes -- ranked by humor, heart, and how much they made us...

Matt Bomer Reflects On Being Outed By Media & The Unfair Treatment He Faced
Image
Matt Bomer opened up about his sexuality being outed over a decade ago.

The 47-year-old Mid-Century Modern star came out during a speech in early 2012, when he thanked his husband Simon Halls and their three children.

Prior to that, he had been the subject of rumors and unfair treatment by the media, which he talked about during a recent appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s podcast Dinner’s On Me.

Keep reading to find out more…

“It was that time when folks could kind of take over your own personal narrative before you even had a chance to,” Matt recalled. “I remember outlets talking about my personal life before I had ever had a chance to even do it myself. And it wasn’t because I didn’t want to, I didn’t even have an opportunity to.”

Matt Bomer Reflects on Losing Linda Lavin While Making ‘Mid-Century Modern’: ‘I Wouldn’t Wish It on Anybody’
Image
Matt Bomer is still processing his grief after losing his “Mid-Century Modern” co-star Linda Lavin while they were still in the midst of filming the Hulu sitcom.

“I wouldn’t wish it on anybody,” Bomer said during Monday’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast episode, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson. “I’m so grateful that we were able to honor her and pay tribute to her. I can’t think of another time in a career or another medium where you’d ever have to be processing something and performing.”

Lavin, a longtime TV star and Tony-winning actress, died at age 87 on Dec. 29, 2024, following complications from lung cancer. She had been promoting her new Netflix series “No Good Deed” and was shooting the Hulu comedy series when she got the diagnosis.

Upon her sudden death, Bomer noted that “Mid-Century Modern” took a short production break before going right back to filming.

William Finn, Tony Award-Winning Writer of ‘Falsettos,’ Dies at 73
Image
William “Bill” Finn, the Tony Award-winning writer and composer of Falsettos, has died, his literary agent, Ron Gwiazda, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 73. The cause of death was not immediately available.

Finn is well-known in the theater world for his autobiographical, moving and lyrically clever musicals, including Falsettos, for which he won 1992 Tonys for best original score and best book of a musical, with co-writer James Lapine. The production combined two shorter musicals he had penned (March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland) into one story following Marvin and his boyfriend Whizzer, Marvin’s ex-wife Trina, their son and their psychiatrist, Mendel, that covered themes of love, family and sexual identity in the late 1970s into the 1980s.

The original Broadway production ran at the John Golden Theater in 1992 and a revival was staged on Broadway in 2016, with THR‘s review praising the continued relevance of the storyline and the song compositions,...
