DC Studios is wasting no time in setting a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow now that the movie has found its director.
The high-profile movie will fly into cinemas on June 26, 2026, DC and Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. It is the second film to receive a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to overhaul DC under the new banner DC Studios. The first was Superman, which Gunn is currently shooting for a July 2025 release date.
Flimmaker Craig Gillespie was tapped by Gunn and Safran to shepherd Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon). She’ll play Superman’s Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. The feature film, from a script by Ana Nogueira, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, and will depart from the earnest take on the character seen on the CW Supergirl series.

"Rocky" is one of the most beloved sports movies of all time. One could probably even stretch beyond to say that it's plainly and simply one of the most beloved American movies ever made. Now, the movie is getting the "making of" treatment in a new film titled "I Play Rocky." The project has lined up a slightly unexpected director in the form of Peter Farrelly, known best for his work on screwball comedies such as "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb & Dumber."
According to Variety, Farrelly is set to direct. What's more, casting is already underway for the lead role. Sylvester Stallone, who played Rocky Balboa in the original and its many sequels, is not specifically named as the inspiration for this lead role. However, it's crystal clear this movie is about the actor and his journey to get the cinematic classic made. The logline for the film...

“Green Book” director Peter Farrelly will take audiences behind-the-scenes on the unlikely and tumultuous production of “Rocky,” the boxing drama that catapulted Sylvester Stallone into stardom.
“I Play Rocky,” the upcoming film, will follow Stallone long before his action hero days. Here, he’s a struggling actor whose partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment hasn’t left him in demand by Hollywood. But betting on his talent, Stallone writes a hot script that a big movie studio wants to buy. However, he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for a pittance in order to get the movie made with himself as the title character. The result is the biggest box office hit of 1976, as well as an Academy Award juggernaut that went on to win best picture.

Now here’s a real underdog story. Peter Farrelly (“Green Book”) is set to direct a film inspired by the story of how Sylvester Stallone came to make his seminal 1976 boxing film “Rocky.”
The film is titled “I Play Rocky,” and per its official logline, which never names Stallone directly, the film “follows a struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment who writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead.”
The logline continues: “Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role.” The movie becomes the biggest box office hit of 1976, garnering 10 Academy Award nominations and winning Best Picture.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

This is going to stun anyone who grew up on 21st century superhero cinema (which kicked off in 2000 with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and only now seems to be on the wane), but what if I told you that in the 1970s, there were television series dedicated to the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, and they weren't the main small-screen pop cultural obsessions for sci-fi/fantasy fans? Not even close.

Still, his goodbye leaves one of the most influential jobs in movies open for the taking. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Winfrey addressed online speculation over Henson’s treatment on the film after the award-winning actress opened up about her pay equity struggles while on the press tour for The Color Purple. Winfrey, who is a producer on the film and appeared in the original 1985 non-musical version directed by Steven Spielberg, told the outlet she “heard I was trending yesterday” after more comments from Henson, this time in The New York Times, about transportation to set and trailers while filming the movie.

Come on, Barbie, let’s go party at my house when Greta Gerwig’s Barbie comes to 4K HD, Blu-ray, and DVD later this month! The physical release of 2023’s highest-grossing film hits shelves and online retailers on October 17, bringing laughter, existential crisis, and harsh lessons about social constructs to your living room!
Barbie converted the summer into a dance party when the musical comedy turned most theater tickets pink, earning $1.4B worldwide! The film presents the iconic blonde bombshell in ways we’ve never seen while taking Mattel to task for decades of questionable motivation concerning its portrayal of “toys for girls.” To Mattel’s credit, the legendary toy company leans into Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s biting script, giving the Hollywood couple plenty of room to play in Barbie Land. Barbie is a unique film experience worth watching, and you can pre-order a copy of the film by clicking this link.

Los Angeles, Sept 1 (Ians) The Robert Pattinson-starrer ‘The Batman’ had already announced its sequel for 2025. While date is likely to be pushed due to the Hollywood strikes, director Matt Reeves has revealed the villains, narrowing down the options to either Clayface or Mister Freeze.
Matt Reeves had earlier also expressed great interest in wanting to use either Clayface or Mister Freeze for the sequel, along with the Court of Owls, Professor Pyg or the Calendar Man instead of constantly focusing on the Joker.
The sequel will kick off production in March 24, 2024, instead of the originally scheduled to begin filming this November, due to the ongoing WGA strike, though a delay in release date, while likely hasn’t been confirmed, Aceshowbiz reported.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie might as well wear the Infinity Gauntlet because the pink-powered meta-comedy has defeated Avengers: Endgame as the best-selling movie ever at Alamo Drafthouse. The theater chain isn’t keen on releasing ticket sale totals for either film. However, Barbie is sitting pretty at the box office, with $596 million in North America and $1.343 billion worldwide. For those who want to compare, Avengers: Endgame snapped up $858 million in North America and $2.799 billion globally. While Barbie is bigger than Endgame at Alamo Drafthouse, the Marvel event film is still the second-biggest movie in history behind James Cameron’s Avatar.
A portion of Barbie’s popularity at Alamo Drafthouse could point toward the theater chain’s merchandise push, with Drafthouse cinemas offering limited edition items to guests, including lunch boxes, t-shirts, and sunglasses. Alamo Drafthouse says Barbie is responsible for selling more merch than any other film hosted by the boutique theater.

C’mon, Barbie! Let’s go party! Greta Gerwig’s existential comedy Barbie is making history after becoming the highest-grossing Warner Bros. film at the global box office! Say farewell to the top spot, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. There’s a new champion at the pinnacle of the chart!
Today’s news is another win for Barbie after the film inspired by the classic toy line surpassed Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight as WB’s biggest movie in the studio’s history in North America. Before leaving Batman in the dust, Barbie pounced on Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, becoming the top-grossing title of 2023 in North America. If Barbie remains on track – and there’s no reason to think it won’t – it could become the world’s top-earning film of the year. With enough time, Barbie could overtake Disney’s...

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s The Flash, which hit theaters in June, now has a date for its streaming debut on Max: the superhero pic starring Ezra Miller will bow Friday, August 25.
The film, in which Miller reprised his role as Barry Allen in the superhero’s first stand-alone pic, was highly touted by incoming DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, but it saw a sluggish bow in theaters. It opened to $55.1 million over its first three days domestically, and $64M over the Juneteenth holiday frame. Along with a similarly tepid performance overseas, all those numbers were below expectations for a DC tentpole with a budget of $200M.
The pic, directed by Andy Muschietti, is currently sitting on a $268.5 million global box office total.
Along with Miller, the ensemble cast included Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue and Michael Keaton.

DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

Warner Bros.’ Barbie is an unabashed phenomenon, both as a movie and a pop culture movement. It is only days away from hitting the $1 billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office after crossing $900 million Thursday.
In any normal circumstances, the studio behind such a hit would be touting that a sequel is in development. Paramount Pictures, for example, announced a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem a week before it hit theaters.
However, Barbie is not like other movies. It was released in unusual circumstances, with the double whammy of a writers and an actors strike, complicating any announcement of a returning creative team or stars.
And in a rare circumstance for a movie based on a major piece of intellectual property, the talent that made the movie a success do not have deals in place for a sequel. That runs counter the thinking behind big franchise...

Los Angeles, July 20 (Ians) Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ production team have apparently come a long way before it will finally arrive in theaters on December 20, cutting Ben Affleck’s Batman cameo in the process.

According to reports, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is sailing through rough seas on its way to cinemas. A new article from The Hollywood Reporter says the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman is doggy paddling to shore after a stint of reshoots in New Zealand in mid-June, with stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson attending. Multiple sources say this is the film’s third round of reshoots, a number unheard of in most Hollywood circles.
Warner Bros greenlighted Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom under the leadership of former film boss Toby Emmerich and DC Films head Walter Hamada. 2018’s Aquaman earned $1.148B worldwide, becoming DC’s most successful superhero film. Even with the sequel suffering several setbacks, it’s easy to see why WB doesn’t want to let Aquaman and the Lost City drown.
After wrapping principal photography in January 2022, management ordered two reshoots. Unfortunately, test audiences were unimpressed with the results.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is in uncharted waters, with the next several weeks potentially setting its course, for good or for ill.
The sequel to Warner Bros.’ 2018 DC movie is coming off a round of reshoots that occurred in New Zealand in mid-June and involved stars including Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, according to multiple sources.
This is the third round of reshoots for the movie, directed by James Wan. That is almost an unprecedented number, even for a movie of this scale.
Lost Kingdom has faced several headwinds as it swims toward a Dec. 20 release date. It was postponed several times (it originally was due to bow in December 2022), and like its DC movie brother The Flash, its making has now spanned three regimes at Warners.

Like most films, Barbie‘s journey to the silver screen is a tricky bit of Hollywood back-and-forth. Initially, Sony owned the rights to the blonde bombshell’s silver-screen antics, but that venture stalled out after several missteps. There was a time when Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway could have been behind the wheel of Barbie’s pink convertible. Still, they exited the project when bringing the Mattel icon to theaters proved too exhausting. Schumer said she fled Barbie after thinking the script wasn’t “feminist and cool” enough. She’s just one of many who found Sony’s approach to the material needing more refinement. Enter Diablo Cody, who 2018 told ScreenCrush she left the project because she “was literally incapable of turning in a ‘Barbie’ draft. God knows I tried.”
It’s been several years since Cody’s comments, and now she’s opening up to GQ magazine about why...

The hottest film event of the summer is fast approaching! That’s right, folks! Two film industry titans, Barbie and Oppenheimer, will soon battle it out for box office supremacy! Before you bet on who wins the top spot on the charts, see what analysts predict for the July 21-23 weekend.
Tracking for both films is interesting, to say the least. Great Gerwig‘s Barbie could open to a peppy $70 million-$80 million, with an opportunity to make more. Warner Bros, who’s licking its wounds after The Flash underperformed, is holding out for $60M, just to be cautious.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie introduces several Barbie and Ken variants, each with a different personality, background, and status in a bizarre world of partying, shopping, beachside brawls, and feeble attempts at flirtation. The footage piles on the strange as Barbie and Ken seemingly travel to the real world, where everything becomes more unhinged than it was before.

In a mic-drop movie moment, one that has left audiences howling, one of The Flash’s final scenes shows Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) on the phone with Bruce Wayne. The phone call comes after a climactic courthouse hearing and Barry finally returning to his own Earth and timeline. Wayne pulls up to the courthouse in his car and as he gets out, the assembled crowd parts to reveal Wayne … as played by Clooney,...

To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in an ideal place unless you have a full-on existential crisis. In today’s new Barbie trailer, Margot Robbie’s blonde bombshell questions death, the limits of her world, and whether or not to red pill her way into a world where she’s nothing more than a child’s plaything. It’s clear that the film’s director, Greta Gerwig, is delivering something unexpected with the new Barbie movie, and I could not be more excited!
The new Barbie trailer shares more about the upcoming toys-to-life comedy plot, revolving around Barbie’s journey toward awareness of her identity in the real world. Until now, Barbie has lived in a land of non-stop beach parties, shopping sprees at the mall, and a will-they/won’t-they relationship with Ken. After she crosses over into our reality, she discovers her legacy,...
