Why Jennifer Morrison's Dr. Allison Cameron Left House M.D.
Image
Let it never be said "House, M.D." let something as insignificant as facts get in the way of a brain-tickling mystery. For eight seasons, David Shore's Fox TV drama centered around the weekly cases of the titular, misanthropic, prodigious diagnostician and the team of doctors who spent almost as much time begging him to seek therapy for his assorted traumas as they did helping him diagnose his aggrieved patients. The show's actual medical accuracy ranged all over the place on a scale of remarkably correct to flaming garbage, but you know what? It had a damn effective formula, which provided a framework upon which the series' writers could hang all manner of soapy dramatics.

Although they would eventually escalate things to the level of having House drive his car into the home of his colleague turned ex-girlfriend Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), the "House" writing staff started out simpler with a good old-fashioned will-they-or-won't-they.

Why Lisa Edelstein's Dr. Lisa Cuddy Left House M.D.
Image
Be it a sitcom or an hour-long drama, the will-they-or-won't-they relationship struck up between two wildly appealing characters who seem fated to end up in each other's arms is one of the most reliable, ratings-driving plot devices in television. Like Sam Malone and Diane Chambers on "Cheers" and Maddie Hayes and David Addison on "Moonlighting," the chemistry generated by these characters kept viewers tuning in week after week to see if this was the episode where they finally gave into their carnal desires and, predictably, made an even bigger mess of their already messy lives.

This narrative tradition has extended into the 21st century with such notable examples as Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth on "Bones" (they did), Don Draper and Joan Holloway on "Mad Men" (never happened!) and Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David on "NCIS" (they did it offscreen). One will-they-or-won't-they that proved especially tantalizing for medical procedural fans...

Why Kal Penn's Lawrence Kutner Left House M.D.
Image
Warning: This post contains discussions of suicide.

Hugh Laurie's curmudgeonly genius was undoubtedly the main draw of "House M.D." but he'd be nothing without a supporting cast of characters to continuously upset, befuddle, and bewilder. From the very beginning of the hit Fox series, Dr. Gregory House was surrounded by a team of colleagues who were both enamored and perpetually offended by a man who remains one of the greatest detectives in movie and TV history.

Whether it was head of oncology at Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and House's bestie, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard); Dean of Medicine, Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), or House's team of diagnosticians, there were plenty of personalities against which the titular M.D.'s cynicism could clash. Throughout the show's eight seasons, that team of diagnosticians changed somewhat, with new doctors joining the team at various points. At the beginning of season...

Taylor Misiak Has Become Well Versed in Denis Leary Lore

Last month, The New Yorker published Dexter Filkins’ exhaustive article on “The U.S. Military’s Recruiting Crisis.” It seems the titular failure to enlist new recruits in sufficient numbers has compromised our readiness to defend the country in the event of an actual war, never mind fulfill promises past administrations have made to the governments of other nations.

Maybe that problem would be solved if troops could be posted at Stroopsdorf, the U.S. service base that provides the setting for Going Dutch. Stroopsdorf doesn’t have: strict requirements on fitness or hair length. Any apparent need to use a tower that’s been colonized by local wildlife. Guns. Stroopsdorf does have: bowling. Laundry. Cheeseworks. Silent discos. The best dining facility in the military. The highest morale in the army. If we ever find out they get U.S. TV channels via satellite, I might look into moving there myself.

Why Rob Lowe Left The West Wing During Its Peak
Image
One of the riskiest things an actor can do when they're starring on a hit TV show is to leave that show. It's not always the case, partially depending on the series in question, but when some TV actors have attempted to leap from the small screen elsewhere, they only end up squandering their chance. It's true, of course, that you can look at a guy like George Clooney, who had acted steadily for about a decade prior to his prominent role on the NBC hospital drama "ER" and was able to make the jump to the big screen ... eventually. But you can also look at David Caruso, who seemed to jump off the screen in the ABC police drama "NYPD Blue" in its first season, and then chose to leave the show to pursue a film career ... before heading back to the world of TV with the CBS procedural "CSI: Miami.

The 15 Best House M.D. Episodes Ranked
Image
Nowadays, Fox's "House M.D." almost feels like a relic of a different time in television history, in which a network show with over 20 episodes a year could still be essentially a prestige concoction, carried by smart, profound writing, heady themes, and ambitious character work, while still conforming enough to a cozy weekly formula to become a ratings hit -- one massive enough to cost Hugh Laurie his role in "Superman Returns," no less.

While some of the show's 177 episodes are so similar as to start blurring into each other in retrospect, many "House" episodes have stood the test of time as first-rate hours of television by any reasonable criteria -- installments in which Dr. Gregory House was not just one of the greatest detectives in TV history, but a catalyst for searching and creative storytelling that used medicine to reflect on the mysteries of the human soul.

Here, we've compiled...

This Controversial House MD Casting Move Broke a Major TV Trend (& It Somehow Worked)
Image
House took a bold risk midway through its run by dramatically reshuffling its core cast, and it paid off in ways few shows could manage. After three seasons of following Dr. Gregory House and his original diagnostic team, which included Dr. Foreman, Dr. Cameron, and Dr. Chase, the medical drama broke the mold of what was to be expected from hospital procedurals. House surprisingly dismantled his team and was tasked to hire new fellows the next season. Instead of hiring anyone like a normal person, Dr. House hired his new team over the course of several episodes with around 40 options. This shakeup not only breathed new life into the series but also introduced a colorful array of characters, including fan favorites like Dr. Taub, Dr. Kutner, and Thirteen.

The original cast of House wasn’t entirely gone, and their evolving roles added layers to the narrative. Foreman returned as House...

‘House’s Best Christmas Episode Drastically Changed the Show
Image
Medical miracles are part and parcel of Fox's series House, as the titular doctor played by Hugh Laurie consistently diagnoses and treats rare diseases. But its Christmas episodes deliver a different kind of miracle with a festive backdrop of tinsel and mistletoe in the stark white hospital halls. Humble beginnings with ailing nuns in Season 1 transformed into more genuinely miraculous acts in Season 4, during which Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) cuts off House's Vicodin supply. But it is the Season 5 Christmas episode that takes the cake, not only featuring the biggest "hallelujah" moment, but also turning into a critical touchstone for the show's favorite couple.

While focusing on Superman’s battles against his rogues' gallery and larger-than-life threats, the series also explored the Man of Steel’s humanity, relationships, and dual identity. 10 Actors Who Left TV Shows At Exactly The Right Time
Image
Certain television shows have seen characters come and go throughout their series runs. Some had left in order to make way for fresh stories and new blood, others had left a big hole in the cast that was unable to be filled. The reasoning behind actors' departures can be very varied. For some, it's moving on to another project, or the prospect of a glittering movie career, like George Clooney in E.R. Some get their spin-off shows, and are part of expanding the universe and telling more stories, like David Boreanaz in Angel. Others have to leave due to scandals.

Whatever the reason may be for an actor departing a successful TV show, the viewers are always the ones to feel the brunt of it. For better or worse, audiences are the ones left to pick up the pieces after the character is gone. This could result in an exciting renaissance for the show,...

House Creator's Revival Update Promises To Protect The Show's Legacy 12 Years After It Ended
Image
The creator of House, David Shore, gave a recent revival update that promises to protect the legacy of the series twelve years after it ended. Shore's medical procedural following a genius, but unconventional doctor has remained in the zeitgeist despite the fact that it has been more than a decade since its finale. As a result, many have hoped for the return of Hugh Laurie's Dr. House, especially as the recent trend of revivals continues to extend several stories beyond their initial endings.

Shore's recent interview with Entertainment Weekly did allow for that hope to continue, but the revival may not be what audiences expect. Shore talked about many aspects of the show in order to celebrate its 20th anniversary, discussing everything from House's constant lupus diagnosis to popular audience theories to his sadness at not having Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) in the finale. However, when it came to a possible House revival,...

"So Much Bittersweet": House Creator Reflects On Series Finale 12 Years Later
Image
The House creator is ready to reflect on the ending that defined his show. Having first premiered in 2004, the show followed Hugh Laurie's Dr. Gregory House, a strict and cynical doctor who could solve any medical mystery. Dr. House essentially functioned as the Sherlock Holmes of the show, which enabled him to work alongside Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), his own personal Watson. The show ended in 2012 after eight seasons, just one season after Lisa Edelstein's Dr. Cuddy left the show.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, creator David Shore was prompted to open up about the audience's initial reaction to the ending. While shying away from viewer responses, Shore shared more about his own perspective. He still stands by the ending today, reflecting on the thematic meaning of House and Wilson riding away together, while knowing that "the end of them was near". Check out his full...

"We Did Talk About It": House MD Spinoff Centered On Other Characters Addressed By Show Creator
Image
The creator of House did consider several potential spin-offs. The show was a medical procedural that ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. House's sizable cast included Hugh Laurie (Dr. House), Robert Sean Leonard (Dr. Wilson), Omar Epps (Dr. Foreman), Lisa Edelstein (Dr. Cuddy), and more. It featured a wide variety of medical issues and mysteries, but the vast majority of the show centered around its titular protagonist's sour nature. The show was a massive hit, earning over 19 million viewers at its height and winning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.

Over a decade after the show ended, Entertainment Weekly spoke with the creator, David Shore. While discussing his hit procedural, Shore explained that he and the other producers did consider a spin-off after the season 8 finale. They considered placing other characters in a leading role, giving them more of a chance to stand out without standing in Dr. House's shadow.

Making ‘House’: How the Medical Drama’s Pilot Came Together
Image
In the fall of 2004, Fox didn’t have a trusty procedural like NBC’s Law & Order and CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. So the network took a chance on House, a medical drama with episodic storylines driven by conditions, not crimes, and a British actor little known to stateside audiences playing a diagnostician with zero bedside manner. House became a commercial and critical hit, and it all started with the pilot episode, which aired on Fox on November 16, 2004. In that first episode, Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is shirking his duty at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital’s walk-in clinic, and he also brushes off the case of a kindergarten teacher named Rebecca Adler (Robin Tunney), who’s experiencing speech problems and seizures. When boss Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) revokes House’s diagnostic authorizations, he relents and takes a shift at the clinic — and while treating an asthmatic boy, he...

9-1-1: Lone Star Finally Brought T.K.'s Arc Full Circle
Image
Few shows are as riveting as Foxs 9-1-1: Lone Star. The heart-pounding procedural debuted in 2020 and has only risen since its mid-winter premiere. Unlike its preceding sister series, 9-1-1, Lone Star follows the Austin Fire Departments Station 126. Left in shambles after the tragic deaths of most of its members, the 126 is revived by September 11 veteran Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), who brings his own oddball crew to repopulate the near-empty firehouse. Owens son, Tyler Kennedy T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubinstein), is just one member of the transplant crew. However, as the captains son, he holds an understandably massive place in the shows narrative.

Throughout his years with the 126, Tk has served dutifully as both a firefighter and a paramedic. Like the rest of Strands firefighting family, Tk is an inseparable part of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Despite the shows consistent emphasis on hope and joy, every family has its battles. The...

Starring Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Peter Jacobson, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi, the series focused on Dr. Gregory House (Laurie), who is devoid of anything resembling bedside manner and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor.

While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a brilliant diagnostician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts afford him widespread respect. An infectious disease specialist, House thrives on the challenge of...

Aangs children remember him as a neglectful and imposing figurehead that they could never live up to. This portrait of adult Aang takes away everything fans loved about his character in the original, from his fun-loving spontaneity to his dedication to his beliefs. Aang changed too much as an adult in The Legend of Korra simply to make a point about familial perspectives.

At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!

Let’s get the list started with the best show of 2004!

How Cuddy Left House MD & Why She Didn't Return For The Finale
Image
Cuddy left House before the final season aired and didn't even return for the finale, and while it was shocking for viewers at the time, Lisa Edelstein has been open about why she left the show. Apart from Hugh Laurie's Dr. Gregory House, the genius Head of Diagnostic Medicine at a hospital in New Jersey, House MD featured a great supporting cast, including Lisa Edelstein's Dr. Lisa Cuddy. The Dean of Medicine at the hospital and Gregory House's boss throughout the show, Cuddy acknowledged the genius of her underling, but was regularly exasperated by House's frequent rule-breaking, lack of stricter, and disregard for even basic manners.

In spite of this, the pair formed a strong attraction, and fans shipped the couple as "Huddy," though it would be a long path to their inevitable romance, which came with obstacles like Cuddy being engaged to someone else and House moving on from his painkiller addiction.

House cast ages: How old were the actors then and now?
Image
House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the Fox hit was then and now!

Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him.

The show became one of Fox's biggest hits of the decade, running eight seasons with Laurie earning two Golden Globes and several Emmy nominations. It also boosted many of its cast to future stardom. So how old were the actors then and now?

Why Amber Tamblyn's Martha M. Masters Left House After Just One Season
Image
In House, Martha M. Masters had a high Iq & brought fresh medical ideas. She struggled socially despite academic success. Even though controversial, Masters added depth & tension to the show.

House is one of the most compelling medical dramas, mainly due to its eclectic cast. While other shows like Grey's Anatomy and E.R. are teeming with characters, all of which focus on different things, House works to keep the focus entirely on the Diagnostic Team. Thus, the show offers fans a unique set of medical professionals, ensuring that it can push away from its competition and explore a series of off-beat storylines.

One of the medical show's most unusual characters is Martha M. Masters, who joined the show in 2010. Compared to the attitude and gruffness of Dr. House, Martha Masters was someone totally different. Though, at first glance, she appeared meek and immature, Masters certainly knew how to put the infamous Dr.

House's 8 Biggest Villains, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
House's biggest antagonists made an impact but also reflected his own insecurities and struggles with addiction. Characters like Michael Tritter and Jack Moriarty challenged House in complex ways, pushing boundaries and ethical dilemmas. House's internal conflicts and relationships with antagonists showcased his growth and moral complexities throughout the series.

House was a landmark medical procedural drama, and though it was more about the medicine and the characters than the antagonists, the biggest villains of the TV show made an impact. The series stars Hugh Laurie as the titular character, Dr. Greg House. He has many misadventures, diagnosing patients as a misanthropic but brilliant diagnostician. Alongside him are a revolving cast of young doctors he's teaching, his best friend, James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), and Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). Above all, House is a character study that delves into the mind of a troubled and genius man.

17 Years Later, I'm Still Impressed By What House's Best Season Managed To Do
Image
House season 4 introduced a new team of doctors successfully. The new additions, Thirteen, Kutner, and Taub, blended well and enhanced the show. House season 4 is the most rewatchable and best season due to the new cast dynamics.

House has been over for more than 12 years, but I will never be able to get over how the writers expertly handled the show's best season, especially given that it marked a time of major change for the story and its characters. The Fox medical drama series, created by David Shore, premiered in November 2004 and revolved around Hugh Laurie's Dr. Gregory House, the narcissistic and cynical Head of the Department of Diagnostic Medicine at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. House ran for eight seasons and 177 episodes, some better than others, but its best is inarguable.

House's original team included Foreman, Cameron, and Chase.

Over the course of House's eight seasons, Dr. House...

I Dont Want A House Revival, But I Would Sure As Hell Watch It
Image
A House revival is unnecessary due to problematic themes, but the nostalgia factor would still make it intriguing for fans. The show treats Dr. House's behavior too kindly, normalizing sexual harassment, and may not align with modern sensibilities. Despite its flaws, a potential House revival could still be exciting, especially with Hugh Laurie's acting prowess in mind.

House is better left without a revival, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't still be excited about watching it. From 2004 to 2012, the show House explored the cases taken on by Dr. Gregory House, a TV character inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Like many people in the late 2000s, I became enthralled by the show and watched most of the episodes. House went on for nine seasons, which was arguably a little bit too long. Eventually, the series came to a close with a highly divisive finale.

Recently, House has gained more attention again,...

The Everything Pot Review: A Wedding Invite Makes Everyone Awkward In Zany, Laugh-Out-Loud Comedy
Image
Genuine laughs come often in The Everything Pot, thanks to its ridiculous antics and relatable themes. The cast's excellent chemistry truly elevates the film, making the back-and-forth banter memorable and engaging. While some moments of repetition occur, the film still delivers a compelling conflict and plenty of laughs.

Its very rare these days for a situational comedy to genuinely make me laugh, but The Everything Pot did just that. The film, directed and written by Sherise Dorf, is deeply silly, but its also got a good amount of heart and themes that are relatable. While the crux of the characters issues dont emerge until its too late to properly flesh them out, The Everything Pot still manages to turn domestic shenanigans into something a bit deeper. Awkwardness knows no bounds here, and the kooky comedy has enough steam to carry it all the way through to a lovely ending.

House M.D. Star Shares Candid View on Possible Series Revival: Its Complicated
Image
Lisa Edelstein shared thoughts on a House revival, acknowledging a shift in TV culture and the show's continued popularity among young viewers. Bringing back House would be tricky given the finale's conclusion - the absence of key characters and complex narratives would pose challenges. It may be best for fans to enjoy the original House series on streaming platforms rather than hoping for a revival that could struggle to capture the essence of the original.

The Emmy-winning medical drama House continues to be popular among its fans, but over a decade after the series reached its conclusion after eight seasons, there is still no sign of a revival. Now Lisa Edelstein, who played Dr. Lisa Cuddy in the show, has addressed the chances of House ever returning in any form.

'Everybody Was So Politically Incorrect': House Star Addresses Revival Chances
Image
House getting a revival TV series might be "complicated," but it's not impossible. Series star Lisa Edelstein has weighed in on the series possibly getting a follow-up show, and she also reflected on what it was like to work on the popular medical drama.

While she's not sure that a revival will ever happen, she believes that it helps that people are clamoring for more politically incorrect programming, as that's how things were when House first debuted in 2004.
