'Law & Order' and 'Law & Order: Svu' Both Renewed at NBC
Image
The Law & Order franchise is arguably one of the most successful police procedural crime dramas in television history. What began in 1990 with the original Law & Order, turned into decades of viewers watching episode after episode of investigations and apprehensions of suspects by seasoned detectives. Fast-forward to more than 30 years later, the original series and the first spin-off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, are still going strong. And things are set to get even stronger, as NBC has decided to renew both.

According to Variety, the renewals will mark Law & Order's 25th and Svu's 27th seasons. They were the last in the Dick Wolf television universe to be renewed, as all three Chicago series are making a return. In addition, another series in the franchise is also in good standing. On Peacock, Law & Order: Organized Crime recently launched its fifth season. Fans can now relax,...

NBC just delivered news that surprised no one, announcing the renewals of both Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. As expected, the popular dramas will remain important pieces of the network’s primetime lineup.

Law & Order: Svu will return for season 27, while Law & Order was renewed for its 25th season. NBC didn’t confirm returning cast for either show, but it’s expected that Mariska Hargitay and Ice T will continue to lead the Svu cast. Unfortunately, Octavio Pisano (Det. Joe Velasco) and Juliana Aidén Martinez (Det. Kate Silva) will not be returning as series regulars. And the series will have a new showrunner when the new season begins production, with Michele Fazekas on board as the long-running drama’s first female showrunner.

Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu's Future on NBC Revealed Following Shocking Cast Departures
Image
NBC is keeping its Law & Order franchise intact for another season. The Dick Wolf-created Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu have both just been renewed for the 2025-26 broadcast season.

Per Deadline, Law & Order will return for its 25th season, while Svu will be back for its 27th. The renewals come less than a week after it was reported that Svu stars Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano were finished as series regulars. Martinez joined the Svu cast this season as Detective Kate Silva, while Pisano has been with the drama series since Season 23 as undercover detective Joe Velasco. It is unknown at this time whether the Season 26 finale, "Post-Rage," set to air on NBC on May 15, will wrap up the characters' storylines. If not, a reason for their absences will likely be mentioned offhand next season.

Despite the cast departures, Law & Order: Svu's...

'Law & Order's Fate After 24 Seasons Has Been Decided
Image
Law & Order has reached its landmark Season 25 after the most recent round of renewals from NBC. When the series was revived, it was also renewed for three seasons, bringing us to its landmark 25th season.

‘Law & Order: Svu’ And ‘Law & Order’ Renewed For 2025-26 After Combined 50 Seasons On NBC
Image
Wolf Entertainment’s slate of NBC series will remain intact. Days after the network renewed the company’s three Chicago dramas, it has done the same for the two Law & Order ones, Law & Order: Svu and the mothership series.

Svu, headlined by Mariska Hargitay, will return for a record 27th season. Law & Order, which took a 12-year cancellation break, will be back for its 25th season. Both are having their best seasons on Peacock in total viewers in Live+35, having reached combined more than 44 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms this season.

The two Law & Order renewals were never in doubt: as Deadline reported exclusively, in anticipation of Svu‘s pickup, the series last month tapped Michele Fazekas as new showrunner, the first woman to run the veteran procedural.

Yet, like the One Chicago ones, the renewals were not straightforward and involved some cost-trimming, I hear,...

“A Two-Hour Movie”: ‘Law & Order’ Showrunner Reveals What To Expect From the Can’t-Miss Crossover With ‘Svu’
Image
With just two days to go until the highly anticipated Law & Order and Special Victims Unitcrossover event, we're getting a clearer picture of what to expect. Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid sat down with TVInsider ahead of the crossover to talk about the dynamics and possible hiccups that may come with seeing the 2-7 and 1-6 join forces again. Eid explains:

“The episodes will feel like a two-hour movie,” says Eid, “while it’s still in keeping with Law & Order‘s format of the police investigating a crime and the attorneys prosecuting the offenders. We’ll also find the Da’s office conversing with detectives as they get closer to arresting a suspect, and some of our detectives will take the stand in court.”

The two-parter, "Play With Fire" will revisit the Svu case from the episode "911" after the girl Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) rescued in Season 7, has now been murdered.

According to Law & Order showrunner, Rick Eid, the crossover will inevitably see Benson and Maura Tierney's Lieutenant Jessica Brady butting heads. He tells TVInsider:

“Benson and Brady have the same goal,” Eid explains, “but may not always arrive at it in the same way.”

The possibility of a conflict between Benson and Brady is more apparent in Svu's crossover promo, rather than in the one for Law & Order. In the promo for "Play With Fire" part 2, Benson seemingly says to Brady "sometimes you have to ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

‘Law & Order’ and ’Svu’s Latest Crossover Owes Its Existence to Mariska Hargitay and Maura Tierney
Image
In just 72 hours the highly anticipated crossover between Law & Order and its spin-off Law & Order Special Victims Unitwill air (that's Thursday April 17), locking fans in for two straight hours. Ahead of the crossover, Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid sat down with TVInsider about what to expect. In addition to saying it's like a "two hour movie," Eid also explained that we have two actors in particular to blame (in the best way) for this most recent crossover: Mariska Hargitay andMaura Tierney. During the most recent season of Law & Order, Hargitay guest starred in the episode "The Perfect Man" and that seemed to get the gears going behind the scenes that there could be an even more expansive story told between the two shows. Eid explains:

“Mariska filmed a few scenes with us at L&o earlier this season, and we knew we wanted to see Maura...

‘Law & Order: Svu’ Season 26 Crossover Joins Forces With ‘L&o’ and… Elliot Stabler?
Image
Shippers we got bamboozled. Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but let me explain. It would seem that a few things are swirling together to create a must-watch event next week during the Law & Order crossover event. The crossover will be between the flagship Law & Order and its spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Two promos were released after this week's respective episodes of the shows and, while the promo initially seemed to be very similar, Svu's takes an unstable turn, with the return of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Fans have speculated about the possible return of Elliot Stabler after Meloni and Mariska Hargitaybroke the internet taking a stroll in NYC during the filming of the crossover. It would appear their reunion is happening at least a full episode earlier than expected after the sneak peek released confirming Hargitay's appearance on Meloni's spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime.

In our exclusive sneak peek, Tony Goldwyn's Da Nicholas Baxer catches up with Price to talk about the most recent session in court.

Baxer says the defense put on quite a show, but Price insists there's not enough evidence to clear the defendant. Baxter fires back, explaining that while that may be, it could be enough for reasonable doubt. Price continues to poke holes in the defense with Baxter, hoping that what Price is saying will be enough to get a conviction.
