Edit
  • Trivia
Balding, lean American character actor who looked older than his years. Prolific on Broadway, from his first performance in "Our Town" (1940), to his last in "Hamlet" (1964). Specialised in serious or victimised roles, exacerbated by his furtive, hangdog demeanour. A reliable character player on the small screen, he made relatively few film appearances, but stood out in I Want to Live! (1958) and The Tingler (1959), as a homicidal silent picture theatre proprietor.
