Exclusive: It’s one and done for NBC’s legal drama Suits LA headlined by Stephen Amell, a spinoff of the long-running USA Network series Suits.

Given the high-profile IP involved, NBC had high expectations for the series from Suits creator Aaron Korsh. They never materialized: after an Ok premiere, viewership for the offshoot, which airs on Sunday, has remained low.

That is with NBC and Korsh pulling out all the stops and bringing back popular original cast members to play with the new cast. They included Gabriel Macht, who reprised the role of Harvey Specter in a three-episode arc, Rick Hoffman as eccentric Louis Litt in episode 112 and David Costabile as Daniel Hardman in episode 109.

Additionally, in an effort to bring in more eyeballs, NBC staged a Thursday night Suits LA takeover with a three-hour marathon of repeats on March 27.

NBC isn't ready to close the door on Suits LA just yet. A second season of the Suits spinoff is reportedly still on the table despite the show's lower-than-expected ratings.

Deadline recently reported on the renewal status of NBC's current scripted lineup, which boasts 15 series, two of which (St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place) have only been renewed for next season. While Suits LA has been neither a hit with critics nor in the ratings, Deadline has heard that the network is still considering a second season of the spinoff, likely due to the Suits franchise being a high-profile IP for NBCUniversal.

While it had a devoted fanbase during its nine-season run on the USA Network in the 2010s, Suits became massively popular when it was added to Netflix in 2023, becoming the platform's most-streamed show of the year. This renewed interest in the IP led to NBC ordering the Los Angeles-set spinoff.

“Suits LA” went meta for its latest case, which that creator Aaron Korsh hopes will lead to more real-life Hollywood stars popping up on the NBC spinoff series.

Episode 3, titled “He Knew,” follows as Erica (Lex Scott Davis) helps “The Office” star Brian Baumgartner — a client of the firm — with his desire to seek advice on pivoting his acting career from comedy into serious dramatic roles. At the start of the episode he demands the firm set him up with a meeting with Tom Hanks, but both Erica and her assistant Leah (Alice Lee) know they could never make that happen.

Instead, Leah sets up a meeting between the actor behind Kevin Malone and Patton Oswalt, who also plays himself and comes with sage advice for the veteran comedian. The enounter was equal parts earnest and hilarious, as the two actors bickered about their standing in the entertainment business.

In the clip, shared on X by DiscussingFilm, Baumgartner, playing a fictionalized version of himself, meets with Black & Associates lawyer Erica Rollins about killing Kevin Malone, the fan-favorite The Office character that the actor portrayed in all nine seasons of the hit NBC sitcom. Original Suitsstar Gabriel Macht opens up about what brought him back for Suits LA.

Speaking to People, Macht made it perfectly clear that his upcoming return as Harvey Specter is entirely "for the fans." Macht noted, "I'm not doing it for me. I've done it 134 times. I'm not doing it for me. School will soon be back in session for FX. Four months after the show wrapped up its first season, it's now been revealed that there's more to come from the acclaimed new series English Teacher.

Per Deadline, English Teacher has officially been renewed by FX for Season 2. The news comes after the first season earned a near-perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, drawing tremendously high acclaim from critics. The audience score for the series is also quite strong at 85%. With episodes available on Hulu, English Teacher would also find success by reaching No. 4 on Reelgood's TV streaming charts. Suits: LA is getting three new Hollywood icons added to its star-studded guest cast, and they're all playing themselves.

Per Variety, the upcoming second Suits spinoff series has officially added a trio of NBC comedy veterans to its ever-expanding cast, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe and AP Bio's Patton Oswalt, The Office's Brian Baumgartner, and Westworld and Just Shoot Me's Enrico Colantoni. All three are set to play versions of themselves on Suits LA, and will comprise just a small part of a guest cast that already includes Maggie Grace, Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, and Carson A. Egan.

“Suits LA” has added three new guest stars.

Variety has learned exclusively that Patton Oswalt, Brian Baumgartner, and Enrico Colantoni are all set to appear in the first season of the NBC legal drama. All three will play a version of themselves.

The trio join previously announced guest stars like Maggie Grace, Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, and Carson A. Egan. The main cast of “Suits LA” includes Stephen Amell, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, and Bryan Greenberg. It was also reported that “Suits” star Gabriel Macht will appear in a multi-episode arc of “Suits LA” as well.

The roles mark returns to NBC for Oswalt, Baumgartner, and Colantoni, as all three have previously starred in NBC comedies — “AP Bio” for Oswalt, “The Office” for Baumgartner, and “Just Shoot Me” for Colantoni.

Ronda Cooper, who had a long career as a Canadian talent agent, including at The Characters Talent Agency for 35 years, has died. She was 77.

Cooper passed away on Jan. 1 in Toronto after a year-long battle with dementia, Characters agency president Jennifer Goldhar Gossack told The Hollywood Reporter.

Born May 1, 1947 in Toronto, Cooper first aspired to become an actress and studied at York University and then at a drama school in London, England. She returned to Toronto in 1979 and found work as a talent agent at the Penny Noble Talent Agency in her hometown and New York City. In 1986, the Characters agency founder Larry Goldhar was looking for a new agent and client and stage and TV actor Jonathan Welsh recommended Cooper.

On ringing her, Goldhar discovered Cooper had just moved back to Toronto from New York City. The two met together over lunch and a week later Cooper joined Characters.

With critical and fan favorites like The White Lotus, Stranger Things, and Severance not set to make their return until next year, 2024 was notable for its abundance of new shows. The vast majority of our list of the best TV shows of the year is composed of fresh properties or limited series: Netflix delivered one-off psychosexual thrills with Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer and the more understated neo-noir Ripley, while HBO and FX struck queer comedy gold with the surrealist Fantasmas and the more conventionally sitcom-styled English Teacher, respectively.

Of course, 2024 saw a few holdovers from previous years, two of which—The Bear and True Detective—met with mixed reactions from audiences but rewarded patient observers with their weighty takes on family, community, and the nature of being. And, in its third season, Hacks continued to deftly balance comedy and drama. Next year’s new and returning shows should consider the bar raised.

Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, English Teacher premiered on FX on Monday, September 2. Season 1 consists of eight thirty-minute episodes and follows Evan Marquez, a teacher in Texas who "finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional, and political aspects of working at a high school." In addition to Alvarez, the main cast includes Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Enrico Colantoni, Carmen Christopher, and Jordan Firstman.

Koenig plays Gwen Sanders, an optimistic history teacher at Morrison-Hensley High who tends to see the best in people, even when she shouldn't. The actor starred in Apple TV+'s Emmy-nominated series Lessons in Chemistry alongside Brie Larson and has also been featured in projects such as Sick Girl, The Offer, and The Flight Attendant. While English Teacher is yet to be renewed for a second season, the cast remains optimistic about the show's return.

Nominees for the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards — the premiere awards event for the independent film and television community — were announced on Wednesday morning, and FX’s Shōgun led the TV pack with five total contenders.

It was followed closely by Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and FX’s English Teacher, each of which netted four nods.

Stephanie Koenig always knew one aspect of “English Teacher” would work. The FX comedy was created by her Bff Brian Jordan Alvarez, who stars as Evan Marquez, a gay high school English teacher in Austin, Texas. Koenig, who also serves as a writer and story editor, plays Gwen Sanders, Evan’s Bff and a history teacher. “I’d work with Brian previously, so I knew that was going to feel lived-in,” she tells Gold Derby. “We already had chemistry.
