On Friday, May 2, Washington and Omar Sy appeared on The View. The two were there to promote their new movie, Shadow Force. However, host Ana Navarro wanted Washington to spill the details on the Desperate Housewives reboot called Wisteria Lane.
“It is rumored that you are working on a remake of Desperate Housewives,” Navarro said. Sy reacted with a gleeful noise. As usual, all of us wanted to know more. That’s when Washington confirmed that the project was in the works.

During an appearance on The View Friday for her new movie with Omar Sy Shadow Force, Kerry Washington confirmed Deadline’s exclusive report from earlier this week about Wisteria Lane, a reimagining of the hit ABC mystery dramedy series Desperate Housewives, which is in development at Onyx Collective through Washington‘s Simpson Street production company.
When The View co-host Ana Navarro referred to the project as a “Desperate Housewives remake,” Washington tried to correct her, noting that “it’s inspired” by the popular 2004 series.
“I can’t say too much — it’s very newly announced, it’s in development,” Washington said. “The idea is that it’s new times, there’s new challenges, it’s like — what happens on that cul-de-sac now? It’s really exciting.”

Whoever said you can't go home again was wrong because we're finally heading home to Wisteria Lane. Well, hopefully. In recent years, fans have been hungry for a Desperate Housewives reboot or revival, clearly yearning for the level of campy drama the ABC series delivered that we're not quite getting anymore. Our collective prayers might have finally been answered.
On April 29, 2025, the news arrived that Wisteria Lane, an offshoot of the beloved primetime soap, was in the works at Onyx Collective from executive producer Kerry Washington and writer-executive producer Natalie Chaidez. As a Disney brand, Onyx Collective shows stream on Hulu, which means the developing Desperate Housewives reboot would have a streaming home on Hulu.
The series hasn't been officially picked up just yet, so if you're a diehard Desperate Housewives fan who doesn't think this sounds like a good idea, there's still plenty more updates to go until the series gets the green light.

It’s no secret that we’ve been lamenting an age of television where fixers delivered shocking twists and suburban housewives blew our collective minds.
We have a pronounced nostalgia for shows of yesteryear, and the constant slate of reboots, revivals, and reimaginings has assuaged us (when they haven’t gotten carried away with them).
But it’s safe to say that when it comes to a reimagining of Desperate Housewives, potential offshoot, Wisteria Lane, is here to sate our thirst for juicy dramedies.
(ABC/Screenshot)
We’ve also been craving more of Kerry Washington.
Wisteria Lane teases the best of both worlds when Washington’s production company joins forces with Onyx Collective for this project bound to send Desperate Housewives fans into a tizzy.

The Desperate Housewives are getting new neighbors. Well, sorta. Marc Cherry's iconic ABC television series is being brought back to life by Kerry Washington and The Flight Attendantshowrunner Natalie Chaidez. Taking place under Disney's Onyx Collective banner, the new series, called Wisteria Lane as a nod to the original show's iconic neighborhood/street, is said to be "a re-imagining" of the old show, which followed the shocking and mysteriously dramatic lives of a handful of families living on the aforementioned street.
The news, first reported by Deadline, comes as no surprise given the ABC series' 20th anniversary back in 2024. Though not involved in this project, the show's continued fandom thanks to streaming — coupled with Cherry's previous comments about wanting to revisit the universe of Wisteria Lane — makes it the exact sort of property to revisit in an era of new social mores but no less drama. But before you get too excited,...

The mystery-drama comedy Desperate Housewives ran for eight seasons on ABC from 2004 until 2012, but it continued to have a loyal fandom even after its ending. That's why the series is now getting a spin-off.

Disney’s Onyx Collective is looking to put a new spin on one of the most famous locales of early 2000s TV.
Onyx is developing Wisteria Lane, a spinoff/reimagining of ABC’s 2004-12 hit Desperate Housewives. The project comes from writer/executive producer Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant, Queen of the South) and EP Kerry Washington. Should it go forward, Wisteria Lane would stream on Hulu alongside Onyx Collective’s other shows.
Like Desperate Housewives, Wisteria Lane will focus on a group of friends living on a seemingly picture-perfect cul de sac whose facade hides a boatload of secrets. Marc Cherry, who created Desperate Housewives, is not currently involved in the new project (though he has spoken about his own spinoff ideas in the past) but sources say he could come aboard in the future.

Eva Longoria grew tired of Desperate Housewives constantly pairing her character, Gabrielle Solis, with new love interests. The endless romantic entanglements became exhausting, making it hard to keep up. While the show thrived on scandal, even Longoria had her limits.
Fortunately, Gaby eventually found a more stable love story, though not without plenty of twists. The on-again, off-again relationships, betrayals, and dramatic reconciliations kept things interesting, but at least there was a sense of continuity.

Why Is Desperate Housewives Creator Marc Cherry Jealous Of The Real Housewives Franchise? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
When one hears the name Housewives, only two shows pop into one’s mind: The Real Housewives and Desperate Housewives. It is no secret that the latter came first and became successful, making the word “housewives” itself a household name in television and entertainment terms during the 2000s.
While Desperate Housewives is a fictional comedy-drama series, The Real Housewives has become a reality television franchise. Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, recently spoke about the Bravo show’s capitalization on the housewives term and why he envies the reality series.

Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry knows that Real Housewives may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn’t upset about the Bravo franchise’s success.
The writer-producer revealed to People that he understands why the Real Housewives production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.
“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”
The showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives franchise “continues to be out there,” producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.

Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is weighing in on The Real Housewives franchise, the Bravo reality TV series inspired by the ABC dramedy.
Following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran from 2004 to 2012, about a group of women living in the fictional Wisteria Lane cul-de-sac, Bravo followed with a “real-life” version in 2006 following a group of women living behind the private gated community of Coto de Caza in Orange County, California.

Desperate Housewives fans got some good news this week after the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, revealed he has “a couple of ideas” for a potential spinoff series set in the 1960s. Speaking to People on Wednesday, November 27, Cherry touched on the possible reboot, saying, “I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had because we owned the whole street.” Desperate Housewives premiered on ABC in 2004 and ran for eight seasons before wrapping up its run in 2012. The show, which was set on Wisteria Lane in the fictional town of Fairview, starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria. Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry reveals his prequel idea for the seminal ABC drama. The topic of rebooting Desperate Housewives resurfaces occasionally, usually around an anniversary or when one of the main cast members has a new project to promote. Cherry has largely maintained that a revival of the popular nighttime soap wouldn't work without the original stars, giving credit to Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, and Teri Hatcher. But his latest pitch sidesteps that entirely.
In new comments to People, Cherry shares his prequel idea for Desperate Housewives and mentions that it would be focused on the fictional street of Wisteria Lane. The prequel idea, which comes as the series is celebrating its 20th anniversary, would dig deeper into the central location that was the hub of so many secrets and scandals during the eight-season run of the original. “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry has put some thought into a spinoff of the ABC hit set in 1966.
While talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Cherry admitted mulling over a number of ways he could continue telling stories on Wisteria Lane – which he said he missed writing about as much as any of the characters. It's time to reopen that box of secrets down in Wisteria Lane as, after 20 years, the show's creator, Marc Cherry is ready to return to the drama-filled cul-de-sac. The Desperate Housewives creator and showrunner recently teased the possibility of a prequel series, revisiting the iconic setting from the long-running ABC hit in an earlier decade. Desperate Housewives became a cultural phenomenon during its eight-season run from 2004 to 2012. Starring Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan, the series followed the women of Wisteria Lane as they, well, behaved atrociously to get what they wanted, killing, stealing and doing all sorts in the wake of the mysterious suicide of their neighbor, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong). And it was delightfully watchable trash.

Source Image: Amazon It was 20 years ago that one of the new millennium’s most addictive nighttime soaps, Desperate Housewives, premiered. It was often outrageously campy — as creator Marc Cherry intended it to be — but it also sustained its dramatic storylines over the course of eight seasons and 180 episodes, earning 38 Emmy Award nominations along the way. During the show’s run, Cherry served as the show’s producer and wrote several episodes. And while the show featured a large ensemble cast of memorable characters, Over the years we have spoken to and he said his favorites were Gabrielle and Carlos Solis, played by Eva Longoria and Ricardo Chavira, simply because they were the ones most capable of taking things over the top in terms of the show’s comedy. Coming off her appearance on the final night of the Democratic National Convention last month, the Hyphenate Media Group co-founder Eva Longoria says she is “hopeful” that Kamala Harris will beat Donald Trump in the election.
“Very hopeful, very hopeful, Longoria said onstage Friday at the Ft Business of Entertainment Summit. “Yeah, I’m also a manifester, so I have to say that as well,” the longtime activist and Democrat added of the Vice President’s electoral battle against the former president. “She will be president. Yeah, I cannot wait to say Madam President, for sure.”
For all her optimism, Longoria tempered her remarks today about the race with the reality of hard numbers – and a very precise throwback shiv to the GOP.

I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.
Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.
At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!
Let’s get the list started with the best show of 2004!

Desperate Housewives cast is open to returning for a revival, hinting at a potential comeback with original characters front and center. A potential revival would need to honor the show's rich history and original cast, rather than wiping the slate clean for a reboot. Wisteria Lane and its core characters were essential to the show's success, making a comeback without them seem like a pale imitation.
Desperate Housewives is one of few shows where the cast is still interested in returning following a long and successful run, but it would only work under one condition. The hit drama focused on the lives and loves of a group of women living in the fictional Wisteria Lane. Each of the eight seasons had an overarching mystery that left many questions about what was happening behind closed doors for the cul-de-sac's residents. Despite Desperate Housewives ending after eight seasons in 2012, its cast has...

“Only Murders in the Building” will be getting even more murder-solvers with a meta twist.
The upcoming fourth season of the beloved Hulu series will star Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria as the film adaptation versions of Steve Martin’s Charles, Martin Short’s Oliver, and Selena Gomez’s Mabel, respectively.
Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria were all previously announced as cast members, but there roles are now confirmed. All actors are playing versions of themselves.
Of course, Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria are no strangers to TV. Levy led Emmy-winning viral series “Schitts Creek,” while Longoria appeared in the iconically camp ABC drama “Desperate Housewives.” Galifianakis starred alongside Ted Danson in the cult HBO comedy “Bored to Death,” another show that combined elements of comedy and murder mystery.
Per the official synopsis for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4, the main trio’s investigation leads them all the way...
