‘Bone Face’ Review
Image
Stars: Jeremy London, Elena Sanchez, Alli Hart, Miles Doleac, Artrial Clark, Ritchie Montgomery, Laura Cayouette, Jared Bankens, David Kallaway | Written and Directed by Michael Donovan Horn

When a masked killer slaughters several campers in a small town, a sheriff and a deputy track the murderer to a local diner where, using their investigative skills, they must discover which person in the diner is the actual killer.

I will start this review with a warning. If you go into Bone Face (written and directed by Michael Donovan Horn) expecting a Friday the 13th summer camp slasher and hoping for a new horror icon then you’re going to be disappointed. Go watch Heart Eyes instead. But if you understand the perminters – there has been a mass murder at a summer camp and the vast majority of this film is working out from a small cast of characters in a diner who...

Panic Fest 2024 Review: Off Ramp Celebrates Found Juggalo Family As Only Juggalos Can
Image
Off Ramp is never subtle. Within the first five minutes, when Trey (Jon Oswald) is released from prison and says a heartfelt goodbye to correctional officer and fellow Juggalo (devoted fan of Insane Clown Posse) Faith (Laura Cayouette), the film begins delivering its message that found family, particularly Juggalo family, is often more loving than blood family. Over the next hour and a half, the movie repeatedly emphasizes that message through plot points, voiceover, a visual motif, and the declarations of love between its central pair. The film follows Trey and his best friend Silas (Scott Turner Schofield), who is introduced caring for his non-verbal grandmother, as they set out for the annual Gathering of the Juggalos. It’s a classic road movie set up, and...

‘The Domestics’ DVD Review
Stars: Kate Bosworth, Tyler Hoechlin, David Dastmalchian, Sonoya Mizuno, Laura Cayouette, Lance Reddick | Written and Directed by Mike P. Nelson

This entertaining post-apocalyptic thriller marks an auspicious feature debut for sound designer-turned-writer-director Mike P. Nelson. Essentially it’s The Road meets The Warriors, with a bit of Mad Max: The Road Warrior thrown in for good measure.

In a scene-setting prologue, we learn of an apocalyptic event, in which jet planes dumped black poison gas on America, killing half the population. The survivors quickly segregated into various cult-like groups or tribes, with names like the Sheets, the Cherries, the Plowboys, the Nailers and the Gamblers. Those who remain unaffiliated to a group are known as The Domestics, and they have to remain constantly vigilant against gang attacks. Two such Domestics are Mark and Nina West, a couple on the brink of divorce who become concerned about Nina’s family in Milwaukee,...

New Trailer for Post-Apocalyptic Survival Horror Film 'The Domestics'
"In the end, defend." Orion Pictures has released the first trailer for a horror film titled The Domestics, which seems to borrow plenty from The Purge. Here's the pitch for this one: in a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by gangs divided into deadly factions, a husband & wife race desperately across the country in search of safety. Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin star, with Sonoya Mizuno, Lance Reddick, David Dastmalchian, Dana Gourrier, Laura Cayouette, Lance E. Nichols, and Jeff Chase. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a bit tired of these brutal horror films where everyone is out to murder and torture each other. Give me something more original than that, please. If that is your thing, have at it. Here's the first official trailer (+ new poster) for Mike P. Nelson's The Domestics, direct from YouTube: In a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by gangs divided into deadly factions,...

‘Cold Moon’ Review
Stars: Josh Stewart, Christopher Lloyd, Robbie Kay, Candy Clark, Frank Whaley, Tommy Wiseau, Madison Wolfe, Laura Cayouette | Written and Directed by Griff Furst

In a sleepy southern town, the Larkin family suffers a terrible tragedy. Now the Larkin’s are about to endure another: Traffic lights blink an eerie warning, a ghostly visage prowls in the streets, and graves erupt from the local cemetery in an implacable march of terror . . . And beneath the murky surface of the river, a shifting, almost human shape slowly takes form to seek a terrible vengeance.

At first glance Cold Moon looks like most other by the numbers horror/thrillers, with a cast of people you will recognize straight away but take a while to place where from. However give it a minute because this movie has some really stellar performances from the core cast which – considering the concept is just bonkers enough to take...

‘Zombie Shark’ Review
Stars: Cassie Steele, Jason London, Roger J. Timber, Ross Britz, Laura Cayouette, Sloane Coe, Becky Andrews, Ladson Deyne, Leslie Castay, Carter Burch, Flynn Foster, Jeff Pearson | Written by Greg Mitchell | Directed by Misty Talley

Also known as Shark Island, a more generic title that would undoubtedly failed to sell more copies than the films other more exploitative moniker, Zombie Shark; this film stars former Degrassi: The Next Generation actress Cassie Steele as Amber, a tough as nails bartender who goes on a trip to a quite coastal island with her sister and a few friends, and runs straight into an army of sharks intent on eating anything and everything that get in their way. Only these are no ordinary sharks, oh no…

You see the almost-deseted island Amber and her friends are partying on also happens to home to a once-abandoned army facility that now houses a scientist, Dr.

Sharen Davis Costume Interview: Django Unchained
Despite being twice Oscar nominated, for Ray in 2004 and then Dreamgirls and 2006, costume designer Sharen Davis has yet to win the big one. She ticks a lot of the Academy’s boxes too: period clothes, stage wear, real life people. However, Ms. Davis is not just about history and glamour, her work is thoughtful, detailed and appropriate to tone.

Django Unchained is the first time Sharen Davis has worked with Quentin Tarantino, as generally he favours using different costume designers depending on the project. Yet on this evidence the director is likely to employ her services again. The date may be 1859, the location America’s deep south, but this is costume not re-enactment. As such the film has a flavour of the Old West (or rather South) with clever character notes and delicate use of colour.

Chatting exclusively to Clothes on Film just before Christmas, Ms. Davis explains her ideas for Django Unchained,...

New 60-Second TV Spots for Django Unchained Starring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio
New 60-second TV spots have been released for Django Unchained.  For those unfamiliar with the film, Jamie Foxx stars as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  These TV spots are in line with all the other ads we've seen, and it looks like The Weinstein Company is just about done showing off new footage, which is fine by me.  While other potential Oscar-contenders like Zero Dark Thirty and Les Miserables have already begun to build buzz, Django still remains under wraps, although with yearly awards from critics' groups closing in, the silence will break soon enough. Hit the jump to check out the TV spots.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette,...
