"Where do they come from?" "I vote for outer space. No way these are local boys." Time for another Classic Trailer Rewatch session. This time we're featuring the original trailers for the 1990 horror comedy monster movie classic Tremors. It first opened in January 1990 and made a fair amount at the box office, but only became a real hit later on home video. I grew up watching this all the time with my family - always having a blast with it. Tremors eventually inspired a whole bunch of sequels - Tremors 2: Aftershocks in 1996 all the way through Tremors 5 in 2015 and a few direct-to-video sequels recently, too. This first movie is still the Og best. A group of people ina small isolated desert town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one. Starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire, with an...

When Universal Pictures released the classic creature feature Tremors (watch it Here) back in 1990, they decided to market it with poster art that brings to mind the iconic poster for Universal’s 1975 release Jaws. But before they made that choice, they had hired famed artist Drew Struzan – whose work includes the posters for Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars films, among many others – come up with a couple poster ideas. Yesterday, Struzan took to social media to share a look at a couple of his unused Tremors poster concepts… and you can check them out in this embed:

The official poster for the original Tremors (1990) ended up paying homage to the iconic poster art for Jaws, but as always, several different concepts were originally tossed about.
Taking to his must-follow Twitter account this week, legendary poster artist Drew Struzan shares two alternate Tremors poster concepts he whipped up back in the day!
The two concepts were ultimately unused, but you can check them out below. Unlike the film’s official poster, there’s not a Graboid in sight on Struzan’s artwork, which instead focuses on the film’s human characters and only teases the horror beneath the surface.
Drew Struzan is currently retired but his poster artwork was integral to the success of countless notable films including Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Thing and The Goonies.
You can learn more about Struzan over on his official website.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at one of my personal all-time favorite movies, the 1990 creature feature Tremors (watch it Here)! To find out what we had to say about Tremors, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Ron Underwood from a screenplay by Brent Maddock and S. S. Wilson (who also share story credit with Underwood), Tremors has the following synopsis: Handymen Val McKee and Earl Bassett are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple, the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh.

After a month of divergent picks ranging from John Carpenter’s made-for-tv movie Someone’s Watching Me! to Clive Barker’s sprawling Nightbreed to Michele Soavi’s Italian slasher Stage Fright to Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse, Trace and I are ready to wrap up August with an American classic.

Although the film was written and directed by SS. Wilson and Brent Maddock and directed by Ron Underwood, its behind the scenes production was guided by three powerful women, who managed to bring the creature feature together.
The movie is about two men, Kevin Bacon‘s Val and Fred Ward‘s Earl (who may be more than friends) who discover a population of massive creatures burrowing under the surface of their small desert town. This 1990 monster romp still feels bright, smart & fresh, a mix of light comedy and old-fashioned scares. The entire show is one long battle against smelly burrowing beasts called ‘Graboids.’ Desert handymen Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward must work hard to avoid taking their place in the Graboid Food Chain. Ambitious it ain’t, but it delivers what monster fans want — gross-out thrills, excellent effects and solid laughs. Arrow’s 4K Ultra HD disc is as sharp as a tack, and a second Blu-ray disc contains an unprecedented volume of featurettes, interviews and production documentation.

Valentine "Val" McKee is looking to return to Perfection, as it's been revealed that a Tremors TV series is in the works with Kevin Bacon attached to executive produce and reprise his role as Valentine McKee from the 1990 film that kicked off the beloved franchise.
EW reports the news of the Tremors TV series, stating that a small screen reboot based on Ron Underwood's original film is being developed by Universal Cable Productions and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions. Bacon is set to executive produce and once again star as handyman turned Graboid fighter Val McKee.
The TV series will take place in Perfection, Nevada, and Andrew Miller (Backstrom, The Secret Circle, Boys and Girls) has been lined up to pen the franchise's new entry.
Although Tremors spawned four sequels and a 2003 Sci-Fi Channel TV series, Bacon hasn't stepped into Val's boots since he acted in the first film over 25 years ago.

"Tremors" fans: Kevin Bacon is back in the saddle for one of his most iconic roles. 25 years after the release of the cult horror/adventure classic, the "Following" star is set to reprise the role of Valentine "Val" McKee in a TV reboot of the film series, which is currently being shopped by the TV arm of low-budget horror king Blumhouse Pictures. Bacon, who will also serve as an executive-producer, opted out of all four sequels to the original film, all of which went direct to video. A previous TV series based on the films, "Tremors: The Series" featuring original star Michael Gross and future "Breaking Bad" thesp Dean Norris, lasted for a single season on Syfy in 2003. According to EW, which had the exclusive on the news, Bacon has previously expressed interest in returning to the franchise, telling IGN earlier this year: “I’d love to do something else...

Later this year comes "Tremors 5: Bloodlines," the latest direct to video schlock sequel in the creature feature franchise that began with 1990's still impressive and solid "Tremors". Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

Desperate Housewives‘ Kathryn Joosten died of lung cancer earlier today in Westlake Village, a community about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Joosten, a two-time Emmy winner for her nosy neighbor in the popular television series, was 72. A former Disney World street performer, Joosten’s was best known for her television work. In addition to playing opposite Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Strong, and Eva Longoria in Desperate Housewives, Joosten had recurring roles in Ally McBeal, Dharma & Greg, and The West Wing, and guested in numerous TV shows. Kathryn Joosten could also be spotted in about twenty movies, almost invariably in small supporting roles or bit parts. She was Will Ferrell’s mother in the box-office smash Wedding Crashers; Finn Carter’s mother in the apparently direct-to-video Halfway Decent; and Aunt Jackie in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Kitschy 1990 horror movie/Kevin Bacon vehicle Tremors feels incredibly dated twenty years on. Watching it for the first time in well over a decade, courtesy of its release on Blu-ray, the Ron Underwood directed creature feature doesn’t quite live up to my childhood memories. The giant worm creatures no longer seem scary enough to have once made me genuinely afraid to walk across my bedroom floor (let alone on sand). And yet the film also feels strangely relevant, perhaps disturbingly so, in the time of the Tea Party movement and Sarah Palin.
Tremors is tongue in cheek in tone and features a group of self-consciously silly characterisations: none more memorable than Michael Gross’ Burt Gummer, a gun-toting survivalist who went to become a key part of the franchise in its three straight-to-video sequels and ill-fated 2003 TV series. In Burt Gummer we have a valiant champion of the second amendment...

Wow! This is one of the lightest weeks in recent memory for horror title releases on DVD and Blu-ray. But that's fine because after the rush in October, we are still trying to catch up on watching all of those flicks.
This week we have the very controversial and disturbing Antichrist from Lars von Trier, which spawned a Nsfw Motion Picture Purgatory from Rick Trembles. Stephen King's new novel and Call of Duty's new edition, Black Ops (with Zombie mode), also drop, and Steve Austin joins the fray along with Tremors' inevitable Blu-ray release.
