U.S. Trailer For ‘Colonia’ Starring Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall was the Chilean drama Colonia starring Mikael Nyqvist, Emma Watson, and Daniel Brühl, which follows a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Directed by Florian Gallenberger, it was picked up for a U.S. release by Screen Media Films and now we have the first U.S. trailer.

We said in our review, “Colonia ultimately falls prey to a desire for a concrete happy ending in the face of adversity. While the film’s exact conclusion works well in Argo because it’s the goal from the beginning, the airport chase here plays as an afterthought. We invest so much time in the compound and its oppression that turning the emotional drama of love into against-the-clock action feels disingenuous. Especially since not everyone survives the initial fight for freedom. How can we experience what should be...

Emma Watson Infiltrates a Cult in Intense Trailer for Colonia
It looks like Emma Watson has another solid looking film project for us to watch. It's called Colonia, and it's set in the '70s, and it tells the true story of a young woman who infiltrates a cult community to find her boyfriend. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty intense thriller.

The movie also stars Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds), Mikael Nyqvist (John Wick), Richenda Carey (Residue, Separate Lies), Vicky Krieps (A Most Wanted Man), August Zirner (The Counterfeiters), and Martin Wuttke (Inglourious Basterds). Here’s the synopsis:

Chile, 1973. Lufthansa flight attendant Lena (Watson) is in Santiago to visit her boyfriend, Daniel (Brühl), a talented graphic artist creating images in support of embattled President Salvador Allende. When Allende is violently ousted, General Augusto Pinochet’s forces begin rounding up dissidents. Daniel is taken to the remote stronghold of Colonia Dignidad (“Dignity Colony”), home to a secret...

Film is set in Chile, 1973. [Tiff Review] Colonia
It’s amazing how many horrific acts mankind has initiated over the past century. With all the coups, wars, dictators, etc. it’s impossible to find a country devoid of at least one historically heinous blight. Chile under Augusto Pinochet certainly had its fair share, but I never heard of the prison camp/cult commune Colonia Dignidad. Run by a “godly” savior in Peter Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist), this community guarded by an electrified fence and segregated between men, women, and children became his state-run playground. He took in Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional (Dina)’s tortured and lobotomized, broke up families forced into captivity, and ensured no one could leave. Only five people in forty years ever escaped and we’re to believe Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel (Daniel Bruhl) are two.

We meet this young couple as they stumble upon each other in Santiago: she a flight attendant with four...

Watch Emma Watson in First 'Colonia' Trailer
Daniel Brühl, Michael Nyqvist, and Emma Watson in Colonia (2015)
Ahead of the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival tonight, Emma Watson debuted the first trailer for Colonia on her Facebook page earlier today. The film doesn't have domestic distribution lined up at this time, but that could change after its world premiere screening tonight at Tiff. A chilling historical thriller, set in Chile in 1973, Colonia stars Emma Watson and Daniel Br&#252hl as lovers caught in the crossfire of a murderous military coup - and eventually interned in a dangerous cult's compound from which there seems to be no escape.

Lufthansa flight attendant Lena (Emma Watson) is in Santiago to visit her boyfriend, Daniel (Daniel Bruhl), a talented graphic artist creating images in support of embattled President Salvador Allende. Watch: Short Trailer for Thriller 'Colonia' Featuring Emma Watson
She swore to bring him back. The first trailer is available for a dramatic thriller called Colonia, featuring Emma Watson and Daniel Brühl as lovers entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. This is barely a 60-second, condensed trailer showing some footage of the couple in Chile, with stunning mountains in the background. I like the imagery, but I'm just not sure about the story, since it seems to be nothing more than another love story of survival in a tumultuous time. The cast also includes Michael Nyqvist, Richenda Carey, Vicky Krieps and Jeanne Werner. The film just premiered at Tiff 2015 this month for those still interested. Here's the first short (German) trailer for Florian Gallenberger's Colonia, found on YouTube: From the Tiff guide - the description: "Colonia tells the story of Lena and Daniel, a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is...

Emma Watson Is in Mikael Nyqvist’s Grasp in First Image from Cult Thriller Colonia
The first image from director Florian Gallenberger’s thriller Colonia has been released, giving us our first look at Emma Watson in the film. Based on the true story of the Colonia Dignidad, the film revolves around a young couple, played by Watson and Daniel Brühl, who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. When Brühl’s character is abducted by the secret police, Watson’s character tracks him down to a sealed off area in the South known as Colonia Dignidad that is inhabited by a cult, lead by Mikael Nyqvist’s Paul Schäfer. She subsequently joins the cult in order to find her husband. This is certainly a very different kind of film for Watson, and indeed this first look image teases a rather tense relationship between her character and Nyqvist’s. Production recently wrapped in Luxembourg and now moves on to Germany before finishing up in South America later this year.
