Stephen Dorff, Radha Mitchell (“Blueback”) and Italy’s Cristiana Capotondi (“The Ignorant Angels”) are set to star in indie rom-com “No Place Like Rome” from U.S.-based Italian director Cecilia Miniucchi (“Life Upside Down”).
Shooting has just started in Rome on the U.S.-Italy co-production, which revolves around an emotionally fraught American photographer named Connor (Dorff), who travels to the Eternal City from New York during the Christmas holidays for a combination of work and vacation.
His teenage son is supposed to join him in Rome, but after he changes plans, Connor — who still has ties to his ex-wife (Mitchell) — intersects with an “attractive and extroverted” Italian museum curator, played by Capotondi, according to the provided synopsis. After she guides him to take some pictures off the beaten path, Connor decides to stay for the duration of the festivities.

Sharon Stone’s Italian cinema debut hit theaters on Thursday — and the brothers behind the film are painting the American actress as a diva who was difficult to work with. The film, Golden Boy, comes from celebrated director Pupi Avati and his producer-brother Antonio Avati. Casting Stone for the low-budget film was a big win for the duo. In Golden Boy, Riccardo Scamarcio plays Davide, a copywriter whose father Ettore was a B-movie screenwriter. After his father dies in a car accident, Davide leaves his job, city and girlfriend Silvia, played by Cristiana Capotondi. He moves to

Hard at work on her latest project, Sharon Stone showed up on the set of “The Golden Boy” in Rome, Italy on Monday (July 22).
The “Casino” cutie looked lovely in a white blouse and black skirt as she sat on a park bench and conversed with her costars while the cameras rolled.
And at one point, Sharon leaned in for a flirty kiss with one of her younger, handsome Italian costars.
“The Golden Boy” (“Un Ragazzo D’Oro”) is written and directed by Pupi Avati and features actors like Riccardo Scamarcio, Cristiana Capotondi, and Giovanna Ralli.

Clowns! Pasta! Babies hatched from giant eggs! It's a new Terry Gilliam movie! Pasta company Garofalo sponsored the 20-minute short The Wholly Family as part of its annual series of films about Naples, Italy. The advert became a surreal tale about a young boy in the southern Italian city. He spots several presepe, Italian nativity scenes, and is drawn to a set of carnivalesque figures nearby. After trying to steal one, his mother momentarily banishes him away in anger, and he becomes lost in a strange dream world. Sounds familiar, right? Cristiana Capotondi, Douglas Dean, Nicolas Connolly and Sergio Solli star in the story that won Best Short Film at the European Film Awards. The last feature we saw from the director was 2009's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The...

The last we heard about Terry Gilliam's 20-minute short film "The Wholly Family" was well over a year ago, when it took home Best Short Film at the European Film Awards. Not bad at all for a movie that got its start as a project sponsored by the pasta company Garofalo as part of an annual series of films about Naples. Well, Gilliam took that basic premise, ran with it, and now you can finally watch it. After doing a brief festival circuit run (mostly in Europe), and being available to stream (again, mostly in Europe) those of us stateside can finally sit down with the movie, as it has wormed its way online. Penned by Gilliam, the film stars Cristiana Capotondi, Douglas Dean, Nicolas Connolly and Sergio Solli in a typically fantastical story where a visit to a market winds up leading a kid into the kind of...

The man who introduced Monty Python to the world and and directed such films as Brazil, and Twelve Monkeys, decided to try his hand at opera for the first time with The Damnation of Faust. Luckily the production of Berlioz’s masterpiece was not impacted by any of the production problems Gilliam has with his last few films. This isn’t his first time directing away from motion pictures. Last year he directed a webcast for Arcade Fire, and this year he helmed a short film The Wholly Family. Now a trailer for the short has now been released and you can get a feel for how the director has brought his unique directorial style to the film.

[1] David Hasselhoff has become the latest actor to join Piranha 3Dd, the sequel to last year's Piranha 3D (which in turn was a remake of the 1978 film Piranha). The new cast looks just as enjoyably eclectic as the last one -- in addition to returning stars [2]Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, and Paul Scheer, 3Dd will also feature Katrina Bowden [3] (30 Rock), Gary Busey [4] (Point Break), Danielle Panabaker [5] (The Crazies), David Koechner (Anchorman) and Matt Bush (Adventureland). Here's the plot synopsis -- not that the premise is terribly difficult to figure out: There’s something in the water . . . again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park. Piranha 3Dd is currently shooting in Wilmington, Nc under the direction of John Gulager (Feast). The film will open November 23, 2012. [The Hollywood Reporter [6]] After the jump: A plagiarizer,...

As the Cannes Film Festival heats up, plenty of casting deals are getting done. We've combined some of the latest casting stories into one handy article for your viewing pleasure. First up, Colin Firth and Emily Blunt have signed on to star in a dark comedy from director Dante Ariola and written by Becky Johnston. According to Deadline, "Firth plays a man who hates his job and is hated by his ex-wife and son. Feeling he missed his one shot at living the dream, he fakes his death and buys a new identity. Along the way he meets a woman (Blunt) who is also trying to leave her past behind. The pair break into empty homes and pose as the absent owners. The two find a kindship despite all the lying." I'm a little giddy at the thought of Firth and Blunt playing off each other so hopefully we'll see...

The Wholly Family is currently in post production, but will be ready for the fest, which runs March 16-27.

Attention all Terry Gilliam Fans: we have just gotten some photos from his new short film The Wholly Family which is set to premiere during the Bradford International Film Festival which will be from March 16-27. Gilliam will receive the Fellowship award from the film festival and will also be screening a retrospective of the director’s works. The Wholly Family is currently in post production, but should be completed in time for the festival, considering it is a short.
These images are coming from Bleeding Cool who got them out of an Italian magazine called Ciak. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on in the pictures, but it looks as though some clowns have taken over, or are just plain running, a hospital of some sorts. The cast of The Wholly Family includes Nicolas Connolly as the son, Douglas Dean as the father and Cristiana Capotondi as the mother.
