Mark Wahlberg kicked off this year by starring in Flight Risk, the aviation thriller directed by Mel Gibson. But five years ago, he teamed up with a Last of Us star for a coming-of-age drama that just got a major streaming update. Wahlberg features alongside Isabela Merced and Rose Byrne in Instant Family, the 2018 film following a couple who find themselves with more than they bargained for after they foster three children. Matt Remick and Continental Studios will live to see another day and another picture. The new hit Apple TV+ original series The Studio has earned a renewal for season 2, with the announcement coming from the streamer two weeks ahead of the season 1 finale. The Studio launched on March 26 and ever since has become a fan-favorite and earned a near-perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In celebration of season 2, co-creators and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg shared a statement in Apple TV+'s press release, which actually teases "10 more seasons" of the series. While they're clearly making a joke, I don't think anyone would turn down 10 more seasons with this cast. Read Rogen and Goldberg's statement about the renewal:
"We’re thrilled to be making a second season of The Studio. We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two,...

Who’s ready for a sequel to the “Kool-Aid” movie? “The Studio,” Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s hit satire that has captured Hollywood’s attention for its scarily on-the-nose depiction of the film industry, has been renewed for a second season by Apple TV+, the streamer announced Tuesday.
The renewal for Season 2 of “The Studio” arrives just before the airing of Episode 8 this Wednesday evening on Apple TV+, and the first season has two more episodes after that. This week will see Rogen’s studio head Matt Remick try to get Zoë Kravitz to thank him in her Golden Globes awards acceptance speech.
“We’re thrilled to be making a second season of ‘The Studio.’ We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making Season 1 and immediately putting it into Season 2, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons,” said creators and executive producers Rogen and Goldberg.

Jason Statham scored one of his highest Rotten Tomatoes scores thanks to his action-comedy thriller, Spy, directed by Paul Feig and costarring Melissa McCarthy. Even 10 years after its release, the film is a constant chart-topper on various streaming platforms, but despite the success of the movie, and the world’s endless supply of love for Statham’s brand of brash, bald, brutality – even in a comedic setting – it seems that Feig doesn’t see a sequel happening.
While many movies have been riding the wave of nostalgic legacy sequels, it seems that, despite currently promoting his new movie, Another Simple Favor, Feig doesn’t consider himself much of a “sequel chaser.” Speaking with MovieWeb’s George Edelman, the director said of a possible reunion with Statham and McCarthy:
“I don't know. I mean, of all my movies, that's probably the one that would make most sense to do another one of.

Seth Rogen is no stranger to comedic roles, but why has the actor chosen to create a show with many of his friends now?
There are certain polarizing figures in Hollywood, and Seth Rogen is one of them. You either think he’s a comedic genius or a total fraud. We have similar polarizing thoughts on his new Apple TV+ show, The Studio.
If you haven’t yet watched, the first thing you’ll think is, “What was the budget for this show?” And it’s not because of CGI or spectacular sets.
(Courtesy of Apple TV+)
The Studio boasts a cast of some highly familiar and celebrated Hollywood faces. But is that enough for a successful show?
More to the point, is Seth trying to make a successful show, or did he create a job where he gets to hang out with all his famous friends?

With The Studio winning hearts on Apple TV, one can’t help but wonder why Seth Rogen had stayed away from the platform before that! Well, that isn’t true, because before there was The Studio, there was the rom-com Platonic that Seth Rogen was a part of.
While The Studio is an out-and-out satire comedy that throws light on the realities of Hollywood in a hilarious way, Platonic was a beautiful romantic comedy that went by comparatively unnoticed. It first aired in 2023, and Seth Rogen was seen starring with the talented actress Rose Byrne.
The Romcom that slipped under the radar: Platonic
Before Matt Remick, the neurotic studio boss, came into existence, Seth Rogen was associated with Apple TV through this show. Despite having a stellar 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, many people seemed to have missed watching this show.

Easter might be the holiest of days in Christianity, but it certainly does not have the depth of quality films that Christmas brings. Perhaps because Christmas is much more commercialized than Easter, receiving gifts makes the anticipation even better. But the films? There are some great ones.
With Easter, people get a lot of bunnies and crucifixion-related films. Both can be worthy, but they have to be done just right. Things can, unfortunately, go wrong easily.
Thankfully, with the three movies that follow, a lot goes right. Once you're done with Easter egg hunting, you can turn on one of these films that are currently streaming on Netflix. Two are not made for children, though.

The Last of Us is back, and this time, it brings heartbreaking stories, scares, and characters that will live on for a long time. In Season 2, Joel and Ellie’s duo, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, are back on screen once again.
This new season also brings some new faces, and one of them is the most talked-about name, Dina, played by Isabela Merced, who is Ellie’s love interest and a key part of the story.
Isabela Merced in a still from The Last of Us 2 (Credits: HBO)
And those rumors are not just for good reasons. Before stepping into this serious and dark zombie world, Merced worked in a film that was in the news for all the wrong reasons in 2024. This was the superhero movie that generated a lot of buzz, and sadly, most of it was negative.
How did Isabela Merced go from being a Nickelodeon star to a movie actress?...

The star-studded revival of the play Glengarry Glen Ross just had its Broadway opening night and an equally star-studded crowd stepped out to watch the performance.
Kieran Culkin and co-stars Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr took their opening night bows on Monday evening (March 31) at the Palace Theatre in New York City.
Among the attendees were Kieran‘s Broadway co-stars Sarah Snook, J. Smith-Cameron (with husband Kenneth Lonergan), Dagmara Dominczyk (with husband Patrick Wilson and son Kalin), and Sydney Lemmon.
More stars in attendance included Katie Holmes, Liev Schreiber, Ansel Elgort, and more.
Glengarry Glen Ross is “set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top.”

Okay, mutant fans, it’s finally happening. After what feels like a lifetime of waiting (and meme-ing), the X-Men are packing their bags and heading to the MCU. Yup, Marvel’s most dramatic, angsty, and occasionally shirtless superhero squad is gearing up for a new chapter under Kevin Feige’s watchful eye.
Ever since Disney gobbled up Fox like a post-credit snack in 2019, we’ve all been wondering when the X-gene would finally activate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while Marvel has been teasing us with cameos, multiverse winks, and mutant breadcrumbs, we’ve still been waiting for that official ‘X-Men, assemble!’ moment.

In the absence of Bryan Singer, who took off to DC to helm Superman Returns, director Brett Ratner had some huge shoes to fill with The Last Stand, which was coming off the success of two revered releases. But unlike X-Men and X2, which heavily contributed to the superhero boom of the 2000s, the threequel marked a low point for the franchise.

But when Singer finally returned to the series to direct one of its most important entries, he was adamant about fixing the shortcomings of the infamous threequel.

Shaken, stirred, or even streamed, spy movies make up many of the most exciting, edge-of-your-seat stories the movies have to offer. From the harrowing heights of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise to the suave savvy of six James Bonds, espionage has become the thematic ground on which some of cinema’s most epic dramas, thrillers, and comedies are built. Even films primarily centered on other subject matter make frequent use of spy drama beats, proving it’s a bedrock source for onscreen entertainment.
The espionage genre is as old as filmmaking itself with silent spy movies set against the backdrop of World War I (1914’s “The German Spy Peril” is on YouTube) testing the medium’s limitations early in the 20th century. Literary works inspired many more of the spy movies to follow. Over the years, filmmakers have repeatedly adapted the works of John le Carré, Robert Ludlum, Ian Fleming, and...

Science fiction continues to be one of the most popular movie genres, birthing everything from thought-provoking journeys to purely entertaining blockbusters. However, some of the best films to come out of the genre focus heavily on the science part. This is referred to as "hard science fiction." Hard sci-fi emphasizes elements like scientific accuracy and careful attention to the technology used in the narrative. It attempts to present its story as realistically as possible, removing elements that don't fit with humanity's scientific understanding of life and the universe.
Over the years, audiences have witnessed more and more intelligent sci-fi films that successfully mix intriguing ideas with stunning visuals to keep them hooked. Directors like Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, and Ridley Scott are just a few names that come to mind when creating sci-fi stories that prioritize science and logic. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’true love first blossomed poetically on screen. Gosling often defines his performances through understatement, from a vintage heartthrob in The Notebook to a brooding protector in what this author thinks is the best film ever, Drive, while still featuring in blockbusters like the pink phenomenon, Barbie. Mendes, now happily embracing the beauty of motherhood and entrepreneurship, also dedicated herself to acting, delving into roles like the complicated mistress of Denzel Washington's character in Training Day to a cynical gossip columnist in Hitch, showing she also had the range to tackle both dramatic and comedic contexts.
However, there’s a strong case that their finest work came when they shared the screen in the same movie: Derek Cianfrance's 2012 morality tale The Place Beyond the Pines. The ambitious, multi-generational film brought the couple together off-screen while testing the actors with roles that demanded intensity. Jason Statham has fashioned himself as one of the most prominent action stars working today. Following his feature film debut in 1998 with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Statham has worked with notable action directors such as Guy Ritchie several times. He has become the face of several franchises, including the Transporter movies, the Crank films, and as an ensemble member in The Expendables franchise. He has also acted as Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious franchise.
Statham's films tend to do well at the box office. Fresh off the premiere of Another Simple Favor, the sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor, filmmaker Paul Feig says he’d like there to be a sequel to another one of his movies, 2024’s Jackpot!. While it was critically panned, Feig said he "loved" the Prime Video film that starred Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu.
The action comedy Jackpot!takes place in the near future during a time in which a “Grand Lottery” has been established in California, but there’s a catch - kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar prize. Feig directed the film from a script by Rob Yescombe.
Per ScreenRant, at the SXSW premiere of Another Simple Favor,Feig said that as far as doing sequels, that his films Spy (2015) and Jackpot! “would be the best served by another sequel.” Spy starred Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne, whom were both directed...

Paul Feig was under a lot of pressure before the release of “Bridesmaids” in 2011 — and it was more than just his own career on the line.
Speaking on a panel at SXSW the night after the premiere of his new film “Another Simple Favor,” he shared that in the lead-up to the release of “Bridesmaids,” he was told his success or failure could have a significant impact on how women’s ideas would be treated in the industry moving forward. Though Feig was the director, the film was otherwise led by women: Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo wrote the screenplay and appeared in it alongside Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper and Melissa McCarthy.
“So many female writer friends of mine were going out and pitching female-led comedies, and they all heard from the studios: ‘We have to wait and see how ‘Bridesmaids’ does,'” Feig said. “I was like,...

Steve Jobs once said, “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” In the 1970s, George Lucas blew open the world of sci-fi with his first Star Wars flick, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The seeds he planted as a young filmmaker back in the day would later blossom into the multi-billion dollar franchise we adore today.

And his hunger for success would only go on to fuel his ambition. Among his future plans for the galaxy far, far away, included a television show of equally massive proportions. His vision would have birthed the most expensive TV show of its time, going head to head against already established franchises like Star Trek that were dominating the TV circuit.
However, the idea itself was deemed too big to fit in a tiny square frame...

A revival of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and of Oedipus, starring Mark Strong and Lesley Manville, will be part of Roundabout Theater Company’s 2025-2026 Broadway season.
Created and directed by Robert Icke, Oedipus comes to Broadway after a West End run, also starring Strong and Manville, which has been nominated for four Olivier Awards and was the highest-growing limited run in the Wyndham Theatre’s history. The play, which sets Sophocles’ Greek tragedy in modern times on election night, is set to play Studio 54 for a 14-week run starting in November.
The play is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson and Patrick Catullo, in association with Roundabout. This is the Broadway debut for Manville, who was an Oscar nominee for her role in Phantom Thread. Strong, known for his onscreen roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Zero Dark Thirty and more, last appeared on Broadway...
