Recent years have been filled with quality horror films. The trend has continued in 2025 with titles like Companion, The Monkey, Sinner, and the slasher Heart Eyes.

The latter offered viewers a slightly different take on the regular slasher trope, with a Valentine's Day twist and a release date to coincide with the holiday. Although the film is considered one of the best slashers of 2025, Heart Eyes did not reach its full potential at the box office. Luckily, the movie became extremely popularon streaming, entering the Netflix charts shortly after its release on the platform, per Tudum.

Heart Eyes premiered on Netflix on May 10, and it quickly attracted viewers. Between May 5 and 11, the slasher debuted in eighth place in the domestic charts. Although Netflix doesn't provide viewership numbers for specific territories, its immediate debut on the charts is exciting.

Fast and Furious franchise lead actor Vin Diesel hopes to push the action-packed film series past the finish line in style as he continues work on Fast X: Part 2. Diesel's main character, Dominic Toretto, returns to the garage in new Part 2 behind-the-scenes images.

Via his Instagram page, Diesel shared multiple teasers over the past two days showing Toretto and his famous garage as he and his family look set to tune up new and vintage vehicles in Part 2. The first image shows the front of the Toretto garage with his patented 1970 Dodge Charger R/T parked outside, claiming that he "can't wait to show you the horsepower of what's cooking up." The second sees Diesel sporting his character's shirt plugging the garage, with the motto, "Heart, Family, Legacy."

Interestingly, Ruben sneaks in a subtle reference to two pop culture icons that fly beneath the radar, all while hinting as to the big plot twist. This centers on Heart Eyes having its own Hobbs and Shaw, two major characters from the Fast & Furious movies.

Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) has been eating the rich on a weekly basis on Season 2, and the next episode won't be any different. Titled "Tearjerker," the new installment of the series will feature an extra-special guest star: Jordana Brewster, who is best known for her role in the Fast & Furious franchise and, more recently, appeared in the new slasher movie Heart Eyes. Collider can exclusively unveil a sneak peek from the next episode of Elsbeth that shows the title character's first interaction with Brewster's character, Chloe.

Horror movies can be hit or miss at the box office — some films like Terrifier 3 come in and defy expectations, grossing exponentially more than its budget, while others like Wolf Man fail to break even. One film that finds itself somewhere in between the two is Heart Eyes, the slasher horror film starring Jordana Brewster and Mason Gooding. Heart Eyes earned $2.8 million this weekend at the box office, which was enough to help the film pass the $25 million mark domestically. Heart Eyes has also earned a little over $2 billion at the international box office, which, when paired with its $26.7 million domestic total, gives the film a $28.9 million global gross. Heart Eyes was written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, and Josh Ruben directed the film.

Heart Eyes is a winning romance and a killer slice of slasher movie fun. Not an easy balance to pull off. The team behind the hit—which made even more money in its second weekend at the box office—succeeded with sincerity. Not for a second do genres clash in the hands of director Josh Ruben and cinematographer Stephen Murphy.

Murphy is a seasoned pro behind the camera, having shot excellent episodes of Atlanta and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Romantic comedies aren't usually in his wheelhouse, so Heart Eyes gave him the opportunity to stretch his talents and explore a new aesthetic.

Recently, Murphy spoke with Daily Dead about shooting a rom-com, crafting some lovely kills, and recalled his first gig on set—working with horror legend Stuart Gordon.

I assume you wanted to make every shot of Heart Eyes as dynamic as possible.

Fans have been waiting two years for the cliffhanger ending of Fast X to be resolved in Fast & Furious 11. Unfortunately, they could be waiting another two years, as franchise star Alan Ritchson recently explained what is holding up filming from beginning on the sequel.

Pacific Palisades residents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have pledged to help their neighbors who were impacted by the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks and Wilson, who have been married since 1988, are donating $1 million toward LA fire relief across several aid organizations.

The couple collaborated on an Instagram post on Feb. 21 to share the news of their donation. The post read: “Hey friends, Like so many of us, we see the loss and devastation wrought by the Altadena and Palisades fires. The challenges to the future of these communities is immense. The slasher horror genre is not always about vendettas and long-running narratives like Halloween. Some stories focus on strange one-off gimmicks. It's evident with slasher tales that try to tell a diverse story. Some of these movies don't deal with hunting a legacy or a bloodine, and instead focus on love and bitterness, like My Bloody Valentine.

As of February 2025, the year's best slasher film patterns itself on a formula involving attacks on Valentine's Day. Josh Ruben's Heart Eyes plays up the more slapstick elements of Scream and doesn't hide its affinity for the franchise. However, while many movies would follow Scream's template beat for beat, Heart Eyes does try to subvert Scream's famous tropes. While it does make one of those tropes better, it botches another in unfortunate fashion.

Every horror film needs a good boogeyman, and the monstrous maniac at the centre of Heart Eyes is a great one. Striking every Valentine’s Day, the Heart Eyes Killer (the police and media dub him Hek) kills only couples, his huge, heart-shaped peepers doubling as night vision goggles (cue Silence Of The Lambs-y pov shots but bathed in red) and his weapon of choice a crossbow that fires deadly cupid’s arrows. He provides a fantastic nemesis in Josh Ruben’s (Werewolves Within) tremendously knowing, fun romp that mashes up romcoms and horror slasher movies and playfully decides the two genres have more in common than you think.

Directed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes is a darkly comic Valentines-themed slasher with considerable franchise potential. To that end, it’s co-scripted by some of the writers behind the likes of Freaky and Happy Death Day 2U, so the filmmakers have a degree of cachet, slasher-wise.

Rising star Olivia Holt (Cloak & Dagger) plays Seattle ad campaign designer Ally McCabe, who’s forced to work alongside high-flying rival Jay Simmonds (Mason Gooding) after a Valentine’s-themed work disaster. Unfortunately, their work-related proximity puts them squarely in the sights of the Heart Eyes Killer, a murderer with a heart eyes mask who targets couples every Valentine’s Day.

Heart Eyes opened this weekend in the #2 spot at the box office with $8.3 million, falling behind only Dog Man, which earned an additional $13.8 million during its second weekend in theaters. However, Heart Eyes, which stars Jordana Brewster and Mason Gooding, kicked off the week by taking the #1 spot from Dog Man on Tuesday, earning over $1 million while Pete Davidson’s animated flick grossed only $977,000. This has helped Heart Eyes cross the $10 million mark at the domestic box office before it even enters its second full weekend in theaters. Heart Eyes was produced for a reported budget of $18 million, meaning it will need to finish its theatrical run around the $40 million mark to be considered a profit for Sony Pictures.

Heart Eyes is a violent new horror flick, so what better time to release it, than on Valentine’s Day. To mark the release, of the film that sees a masked maniac murdering young couples, we had the pleasure in speaking to three of the film’s leading stars – Jordana Brewster, Devon Sawa and Gigi Zumbado.

We discuss why this film makes the perfect Valentine’s Day date night, while they also speak about portraying fear on screen. We also chat about their relationship with the horror genre, and whether it has changed at all having been a part of one, and pulling back the curtain on how they are put together.

"I try to speak to my actors as I would like to be spoken to. That all starts with a vibe. You have to be confident as the cruise captain, but you also need to set a precedent, or create the kind of playground where actors feel like they can take risks.

Sony’s new R-rated horror thriller Heart Eyes has landed at the #2 spot in the domestic box office chart as projected. However, the film earned lower than the predicted opening weekend range. The movie opened with positive reviews, carrying a reported production budget of $18 million. Scroll below for the deets.

Its lack of star power and being released on the Super Bowl weekend might be one of the reasons for an underwhelming weekend despite showing promise with its release-day collection. The movie was directed by Josh Ruben, who has directed Scare Me and Werewolves Within. It is a romantic comedy slasher with a B- rating on CinemaScore.

According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Heart Eyes collected only $8.5 million on its three-day opening weekend, whereas it was predicted to earn between $11 million and $14 million. It is 22.7-39.3% less than the expected prediction.
