When it comes to the "Fast & Furious" franchise, real fans know it isn't about the cars, the money, the action, or the story -- it's about family. But, y'know, also all those other things too. In fact, "Fast & Furious" is so concerned with its overarching narrative that it haphazardly constructed a twisted timeline that's hard for newcomers to process. Starting in 2001, the films were released in this order:
"The Fast and the Furious"
"2 Fast 2 Furious"
"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift"
"Fast & Furious"
"Fast Five"
"Fast and Furious 6"
"Furious 7"
"The Fate of the Furious"
"Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw"
"F9"
"Fast X"
The "Fast & Furious" movies can absolutely be watched, understood, and enjoyed in this order if the viewer relents to the franchise's reckless pace and internal logic. Having said that, there is an alternate viewing order we'll discuss later that...

Recent years have been filled with quality horror films. The trend has continued in 2025 with titles like Companion, The Monkey, Sinner, and the slasher Heart Eyes.
The latter offered viewers a slightly different take on the regular slasher trope, with a Valentine's Day twist and a release date to coincide with the holiday. Although the film is considered one of the best slashers of 2025, Heart Eyes did not reach its full potential at the box office. Luckily, the movie became extremely popularon streaming, entering the Netflix charts shortly after its release on the platform, per Tudum.
Heart Eyes premiered on Netflix on May 10, and it quickly attracted viewers. Between May 5 and 11, the slasher debuted in eighth place in the domestic charts. Although Netflix doesn't provide viewership numbers for specific territories, its immediate debut on the charts is exciting.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen an uptick in holiday-centered horror fare. With movies like Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving and Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 putting the fear back in festive, the subgenre is staged for a major comeback. Earlier this year, filmmaker Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within) blended slasher with rom-com when he unveiled his Valentine’s Day-themed feature, Heart Eyes. Now, three months since the film terrorized audiences in cinemas, it’s set to slice and dice its way onto streaming. Those looking to snuggle into a scarefest with their sweetie can switch on Netflix beginning May 8 when the Olivia Holt (Totally Killer) and Mason Gooding (Scream)-led film hits the platform.
The idea behind Ruben’s latest project is an intriguing one. From a screenplay co-penned by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy comes a story about a crazed serial killer who stalks couples on Valentine’s Day.

Say goodbye to your free hours and boredom because Netflix in May 2025 is pulling no punches. The streaming giant is going full gremlin mode this month. Netflix is about to bring you chaotic new series, final seasons we’re emotionally unprepared for, and more than one title that’ll make you bite your nails off in anticipation. It’s giving variety. It’s giving drama. It’s giving “just one more episode” until 3 a.m.
Without naming names (yet), let’s just say a certain animated fever dream is making a killer return, an all-star comedy is bowing out in style, and one love story might come with a body count. Whether you’re into blood, robots, steamy messes, or uncomfortable laughter, the content buffet is fully loaded.
You don’t need a watchlist this time, you need a strategy. And probably a therapist by June. Ready? Let’s get into the weird,...

If you missed Heart Eyes in theaters earlier this year or have been hesitant to rent or purchase it on VOD, you're in luck, because the rom-com slasher is finally making its way onto Netflix starting May 8, 2025. Starring Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, the film introduced audiences to the titular serial killer on a murderous rampage who mistook the two co-workers for a Valentine's Day couple.
Per What's on Netflix, Heart Eyes will make its streaming debut on May 8, and remain on Netflix for 18 months before it heads to Hulu. The move is part of Sony Pictures' first-window deal with the streaming service that has all of their theatrical titles in 2025 debut on there a few months after their initial release. Heart Eyes is just one of many to come, as others such as Karate Kid: Legends and Until Dawn will also debut on Netflix later this year.

We’ve got some seriously exciting news for horror fans! A terrifying new slasher that hit theaters just a couple of months ago is already gearing up for its streaming debut. Fans will get to relive all the brutal kills and nerve-wracking suspense of this thrilling slasher very soon. It feels like Christmas came early!
This is easily one of my favorite horror films of the year, so I’m beyond thrilled it’s finally heading to streaming. I expected it to land on a platform eventually, but I definitely didn’t think it would be this soon. Leave it to Elsbeth to continuously shake things up by diving into various avenues and subgenres of mystery.
Instead of emulating elements of a “howcatchem” or even a “whodunit,” this episode dipped into one of the rarest kinds of mysteries: the “whydunit.”
While “subtle” is not a word most people would use to describe Elsbeth, that’s exactly how it worked in a case where the main mystery was the killer’s motivation.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
The more the case was cracked open, the less sense it made that Jordana Brewster’s Chloe would kill the victim. That is, until it was clear how much her character cared for the billionaire.

But, for movie fans who haven't hopped aboard the Fast & Furious train yet, the expansive franchise could be a bit intimidating.
For prospective fans of the Fast Saga, jumping in on the films isn't as simple as watching them in release order. Despite the franchise's relatively linear timeline, certain films are out of order. Anyone who wants to catch up on Dom Toretto's and his family's exploits will want to watch the Fast and Furious films in this order.

The following contains spoilers for Heart Eyes, now playing in theaters.
2025 has already provided fans with some intriguing horror movies. Companion focused on a female android having to become a killer to survive. In addition, Josh Ruben's Heart Eyes has done its own take on movies like Scream, but with a Valentine's Day twist.
The latter movie deals with a slasher known as Heart Eyes. The killer goes on a rampage to slaughter lovers on the romantic holiday. Interestingly, Ruben sneaks in a subtle reference to two pop culture icons that fly beneath the radar, all while hinting as to the big plot twist. This centers on Heart Eyes having its own Hobbs and Shaw, two major characters from the Fast & Furious movies.

Horror movies can be hit or miss at the box office — some films like Terrifier 3 come in and defy expectations, grossing exponentially more than its budget, while others like Wolf Man fail to break even. One film that finds itself somewhere in between the two is Heart Eyes, the slasher horror film starring Jordana Brewster and Mason Gooding. Heart Eyes earned $2.8 million this weekend at the box office, which was enough to help the film pass the $25 million mark domestically. Heart Eyes has also earned a little over $2 billion at the international box office, which, when paired with its $26.7 million domestic total, gives the film a $28.9 million global gross. Heart Eyes was written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, and Josh Ruben directed the film.

Heart Eyes is a winning romance and a killer slice of slasher movie fun. Not an easy balance to pull off. The team behind the hit—which made even more money in its second weekend at the box office—succeeded with sincerity. Not for a second do genres clash in the hands of director Josh Ruben and cinematographer Stephen Murphy.
Murphy is a seasoned pro behind the camera, having shot excellent episodes of Atlanta and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Romantic comedies aren't usually in his wheelhouse, so Heart Eyes gave him the opportunity to stretch his talents and explore a new aesthetic.
Recently, Murphy spoke with Daily Dead about shooting a rom-com, crafting some lovely kills, and recalled his first gig on set—working with horror legend Stuart Gordon.
[Editor's Note: This interview covers major Heart Eyes plot points and spoilers.]
I assume you wanted to make every shot of Heart Eyes as dynamic as possible.

Fans have been waiting two years for the cliffhanger ending of Fast X to be resolved in Fast & Furious 11. Unfortunately, they could be waiting another two years, as franchise star Alan Ritchson recently explained what is holding up filming from beginning on the sequel.
Speaking with Screen Rant to promote Reacher Season 3, which premiered on Prime Video on Feb. 20, Ritchson explained that scheduling complications are largely to blame for Fast & Furious 11's filming delay. "That is one of the biggest challenges that franchise faces is that you've got a lot of guys like Dwayne [Johnson] and Vin [Diesel] and [Jason] Momoa and myself and everybody's super busy. So trying to get the stars to align so we can make that happen is a feat of nature," he said. "So we'll see how it goes, but this is a passion project for Universal and it's one that I had a blast doing, so I'd love to get in there,...

Quick LinksHeart Eyes Plays Up a Random KillerHeart Eyes Botches the Revival Gag
The following contains spoilers for Heart Eyes, now playing in theaters.
The slasher horror genre is not always about vendettas and long-running narratives like Halloween. Some stories focus on strange one-off gimmicks. It's evident with slasher tales that try to tell a diverse story. Some of these movies don't deal with hunting a legacy or a bloodine, and instead focus on love and bitterness, like My Bloody Valentine.
As of February 2025, the year's best slasher film patterns itself on a formula involving attacks on Valentine's Day. Josh Ruben's Heart Eyes plays up the more slapstick elements of Scream and doesn't hide its affinity for the franchise. However, while many movies would follow Scream's template beat for beat, Heart Eyes does try to subvert Scream's famous tropes. While it does make one of those tropes better, it botches another in unfortunate fashion.

Every horror film needs a good boogeyman, and the monstrous maniac at the centre of Heart Eyes is a great one. Striking every Valentine’s Day, the Heart Eyes Killer (the police and media dub him Hek) kills only couples, his huge, heart-shaped peepers doubling as night vision goggles (cue Silence Of The Lambs-y pov shots but bathed in red) and his weapon of choice a crossbow that fires deadly cupid’s arrows. He provides a fantastic nemesis in Josh Ruben’s (Werewolves Within) tremendously knowing, fun romp that mashes up romcoms and horror slasher movies and playfully decides the two genres have more in common than you think.
The set-up is pure romcom fluff, featuring every trope in the book (with a pink cover); good looking people in high-end jobs, meet-cutes over mixed up coffee orders, knocking their heads together bending down, speaking over each other (“no you go...

Directed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes is a darkly comic Valentines-themed slasher with considerable franchise potential. To that end, it’s co-scripted by some of the writers behind the likes of Freaky and Happy Death Day 2U, so the filmmakers have a degree of cachet, slasher-wise.
Rising star Olivia Holt (Cloak & Dagger) plays Seattle ad campaign designer Ally McCabe, who’s forced to work alongside high-flying rival Jay Simmonds (Mason Gooding) after a Valentine’s-themed work disaster. Unfortunately, their work-related proximity puts them squarely in the sights of the Heart Eyes Killer, a murderer with a heart eyes mask who targets couples every Valentine’s Day.

Heart Eyes opened this weekend in the #2 spot at the box office with $8.3 million, falling behind only Dog Man, which earned an additional $13.8 million during its second weekend in theaters. However, Heart Eyes, which stars Jordana Brewster and Mason Gooding, kicked off the week by taking the #1 spot from Dog Man on Tuesday, earning over $1 million while Pete Davidson’s animated flick grossed only $977,000. This has helped Heart Eyes cross the $10 million mark at the domestic box office before it even enters its second full weekend in theaters. Heart Eyes was produced for a reported budget of $18 million, meaning it will need to finish its theatrical run around the $40 million mark to be considered a profit for Sony Pictures.

Heart Eyes slays the Valentine's Day box office by skewering romantic comedies with bloody slasher fun. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding co-star as Seattle advertising executives targeted for slaughter after a chance meeting. Kismet proves to be a death sentence as they run for their lives while hilariously still flirting. Director Josh Ruben, known for Scare Me and his fantastic adaptation of Werewolves Within, started his career in sketch comedy and CollegeHumor shorts. Speaking to MovieWeb, Ruben credits these early experiences with establishing a good working relationship with his terrific Heart Eyes ensemble, which also includes Jordana Brewster and Devon Sawa:
"I try to speak to my actors as I would like to be spoken to. That all starts with a vibe. You have to be confident as the cruise captain, but you also need to set a precedent, or create the kind of playground where actors feel like they can take risks.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for 'Heart Eyes'Olivia Holt had a good time making her latest horror movie, Heart Eyes. Not only did she cherish the time spent with director, Josh Ruben, and her cast mates, Mason Gooding, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster, but the actress also had a wonderful time stepping into the role of Ally. Two of the titular killer’s primary targets, Ally and her co-worker, Jay (Gooding), can’t seem to shake the serial killer who hunts happy couples for sport every Valentine’s Day. Kinda gives everyone yet another good reason to be single, doesn’t it? Holt recently swung by Collider’s Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff to discuss her take on the character, and also teased that she would be down for a sequel, should the opportunity present itself.

Josh Ruben’s Heart Eyes is a Valentine’s Day romantic comedy turned slasher that aims for both lovey-dovey sweetness and blood-soaked holiday thrills. Starring Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, it flutters between cutesy rom-com banter and heart-pounding chases with a doe-eyed killer—though the bumpy pacing and shallow character work keep it from becoming a new holiday staple. Unfortunately, the sharpest thing about this slasher is its one-liners.

This Valentine's Day comes with a treat for brave moviegoers. While there are plenty of romantic options, both on streaming and in cinema — there's a new Bridget Jones movie coming out soon, Heart Eyes is coming to change that.
Already out in theaters, the slasher rom-com movie has received positive reviews. Instead of a regular slasher, Heart Eyes takes a romantic spin for two people working late, only to become the target of the infamous Heart Eyes Killer, who believes they're a couple. Although the slasher hasn't officially received a sequel yet, director Josh Ruben shared with Variety his idea for Heart Eyes 2 inspired by Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually.

DreamWorks Animation and Universal’s family film Dog Man isn’t having any trouble staying atop the box office in its second weekend with an expected $13.7 million from 3,886 theaters as new offerings Heart Eyes and Love Hurts battle for Super Bowl scraps.
That should put Dog Man‘s domestic total at a pleasing $54.1 million through Sunday (the pic cost a modest $40 million or so to produce).
Super Bowl weekend has always been a challenge for Hollywood studios since moviegoing plummets dramatically on the day of the big game (this year’s championship game sees last year’s victor the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles). Movies targeting younger females and genre titles appealing to younger audiences are a favorite go-to in terms of movies daring to open over Super Bowl weekend, and this year is no different, although it’s more weighted on the genre side this time out.

There is a new entry in the holiday horror movie canon coming this February. Like “Thanksgiving” and “Black Christmas” before it, “Heart Eyes” aims to find grisly fun in a holiday that typically isn’t associated with the horror genre.
Directed by Josh Ruben, it will toss some carnage into the usually romantic Valentine’s Day movie mix. The film may, in fact, be exactly what you are looking for this Feb. 14, but only if you happen to find yourself in the mood for a gruesome alternative to the romantic comedies typically associated with the most love-filled day of the year.
Here is how you can watch “Heart Eyes,” including whether or not it’s streaming right now.

Heart Eyes director Josh Ruben may be a horror filmmaker, but nothing could’ve prepared him for the waking nightmare he experienced last month.
On Jan. 7, just weeks before Ruben and his wife Lauren Sick were slated to move into their dream home in Altadena, they watched along in horror as the Eaton Fire headed straight for their new neighborhood in Los Angeles County. While they assumed the worst when their security camera cut to black, Ruben and Sick received confirmation on Jan. 9 that their vacant home was gone. Immediately, friends and collaborators like Mark Duplass, Jordana Brewster and Christopher Landon came to their aid and rallied wider support from the general public, raising nearly $75,000 to get the beloved filmmaking couple back on their feet.
In the process, Ruben also overcame two of the most common fears a person can have: asking for help and accepting it.
