If Modern Family Ever Gets a Netflix Revival, I’d Love to See Gloria Finally Get a Job That Makes Sense
Image
As a big Modern Family fan, I’ve watched the show more times than I can even remember – and I still laugh just as hard each time. But if the series ever gets a revival on the streaming giant Netflix, there’s one thing I’d love to see: Sofia Vergara’s Gloria finally getting a proper job that actually makes sense for her character.

Don’t get me wrong, I love her feisty Colombian personality and one-liners, but it always felt like the show didn’t really know what to do with her career-wise. Even though the writers did some incredible work when it came to Claire and her closet business. But for Gloria nothing was done!

Gloria as a salon owner? That’s the Modern Family revival I’d watch

One thing that has always stuck with me as a longtime Modern Family fan is just how underused...

Happy Gilmore 2 will be tinged with sadness after latest news
Image
Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 is going to be a hoot. Even the trailer brings some laughs, and we can assume, based on the previous Happy Gilmore, that the flick will be worth watching. It might not be Oscar material, but that isn't the point. The point is to have a fun time.

The sequel will, of course, star Sandler as Happy but also feature Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and, of course, Christopher McDonald. There will also be a number of cameos from well-known celebrities and athletes.

One part of the original film that will not be part of the second is an alligator named Morris. Unfortunately, he passed away recently from old age at his gator farm home in Colorado. Based on his teeth and growth rate, he was presumed to be around 80 years old. But he wasn't just a one-film star.

Adam Sandler Mourns Death Of ‘Happy Gilmore’ Alligator Co-Star
Image
As the stars of Happy Gilmore reunite for a long overdue sequel, Adam Sandler is paying tribute to one original cast member.

The 2x Golden Globe nominee mourned the death of his alligator co-star Morris, who played the titular character’s nemesis in the 1996 golf comedy, on Wednesday with a sweet tribute to the reptilian actor on Instagram.

“Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you,” he captioned the post. “You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers – really anyone with arms or legs – but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film. The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless we sent in 40 heads of lettuce taught me a powerful lesson: never compromise your art. I will never forget at craft service that time when we split the Three Musketeers bar and you let me have the bigger half. But that’s who you were.

Adam Sandler Pays Tribute to ‘Happy Gilmore’ Alligator: ‘We Are All Gonna Miss You’
Image
Adam Sandler honored his Happy Gilmore co-star Morris, an alligator who appeared in the 1996 comedy, following his death. The actor shared a lengthy tribute to Morris, who retired to the Colorado Gator Farm in 2006 after appearing in numerous films.

“Goodbye, Morris,” Sandler wrote on X. “We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers – really anyone with arms or legs – but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film. The day you wouldn’t come out of your trailer unless...

Adam Sandler Pays Tribute to 'Happy Gilmore' Star Morris the Alligator Following Death
Image
Adam Sandler paid a heartfelt tribute to one of his Happy Gilmore “costars” after the announcement of their death at the age of “well over 80 years old.” The reason for the vagueness of the age, is that the star in question was Morris the alligator, who appeared in the movie with Sandler as one of several TV and movie roles. The original news of the reptile’s death was revealed by Colorado Gator Farm owner Jay Young, who said in a Facebook video, “While we knew this was inevitable, we are very saddened by his passing to old age.”

Sandler was also saddened by the news, and took to his own social media account to share a lengthy post in memory of the alligator. Tinged with more than a little of Sandler's brand of humor, he wrote:

“Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors,...

Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore (1996)
How Christopher McDonald Became ‘Happy Gilmore’s’ Straight Shooter
Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore (1996)
Happy Gilmore 2. (L to R) Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin and Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore in Happy Gilmore 2. Cr. Scott Yamano/Netflix © 2024. Nearly three decades after the original film came out, Happy Gilmore 2 will be released this summer as a streaming film on Netflix. Many of the original cast members are returning, including Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Christopher McDonald. In the first film, McDonald’s Shooter McGavin character was the perfect foil for Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, and one would think we’ll see that dynamic continue in the new film. When McDonald recently appeared at Steel City Con, he told the story about how he was specifically recruited for the role. Why Modern Family Star Ariel Winter Disappeared From Hollywood
Image
It's never easy to be a child star. Even if you have a healthy, stable home life, it can be difficult to deal with the highs and lows of fame as a juvenile. That's not counting the work schedules, trying to keep up with schooling, and still trying to be a kid, so it's not always surprising when super successful child stars drop out of the limelight for at least a little while upon reaching adulthood. Young women have to try to reconcile growing up with their fandoms, which can be incredibly difficult, while also trying to pave a career and a way forward for themselves. For "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter, it was all just a little bit too much.

The actor, who portrayed academic overachiever middle daughter Alex Dunphy on the long-running hit ABC sitcom, seemed to disappear from Hollywood entirely for a while after the end of...

Ariel Winter Says Body Shaming While Starring In ‘Modern Family’ “Totally Damaged My Self-Esteem”
Image
Ariel Winter is getting real about how it was growing up in front of the cameras, starring in Modern Family.

The young star landed the role of Alex Dunphy at just 11 years old, and as she got older, she faced scrutiny over her body with mean comments on social media and in the press.

“That was a major part of my teenage years,” she told People. “It was just everywhere. It was every headline I read about myself, like, grown people writing articles about me saying how I looked terrible or pregnant or like a fat slut. I mean, I was 14. It totally damaged my self-esteem.”

Winter played the daughter of Julie Bowen’s Claire and Ty Burrell’s Phil in the ABC comedy that ran for 11 seasons and ended in 2020. Facing the body shaming on social media was not easy for Winter as comments about her weight gain grew.

One Underrated ‘Modern Family’ Star Who Faced the Same Unfair Fate as Friends’ Courteney Cox
Image
Award shows don’t always get it right, and sometimes, they miss big. Just ask Courteney Cox. While Friends turned its entire cast into global superstars, Cox remained the only main star who was never even nominated for an Emmy. Despite anchoring some of the show’s most iconic moments, her portrayal of Monica Geller was consistently overlooked while her co-stars racked up accolades.

It’s a frustrating pattern that TV fans know all too well. In ensemble comedies, there’s always that one actor who gives everything, shapes the show’s heart, and still doesn’t get their due. A legendary character from Modern Family found himself in the same bittersweet situation.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson: the unsung hero of ‘Modern Family’

While Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet received widespread recognition for their roles, Jesse Tyler Ferguson quietly became one of Modern Family’s most reliable sources of humor.

‘Heart Eyes’ Cozies Its Way Onto Streaming Next Month
Image
Over the last few years, we’ve seen an uptick in holiday-centered horror fare. With movies like Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving and Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 putting the fear back in festive, the subgenre is staged for a major comeback. Earlier this year, filmmaker Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within) blended slasher with rom-com when he unveiled his Valentine’s Day-themed feature, Heart Eyes. Now, three months since the film terrorized audiences in cinemas, it’s set to slice and dice its way onto streaming. Those looking to snuggle into a scarefest with their sweetie can switch on Netflix beginning May 8 when the Olivia Holt (Totally Killer) and Mason Gooding (Scream)-led film hits the platform.

The idea behind Ruben’s latest project is an intriguing one. From a screenplay co-penned by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy comes a story about a crazed serial killer who stalks couples on Valentine’s Day.

Alleged Subtle Homophobia in Modern Family Despite The Show Featuring Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet’s Same Sex Romance
Image
Modern Family fans aren’t gonna like this! But the show that earned our love and appreciation is alleged to have gotten away with homophobic content. Yes, the same show that was groundbreaking in portraying a same sex couple as its central characters.

Well, it isn’t just the subtle homophobia that was pointed out by a fan. They also alleged that the sitcom had some racist and misogynistic content. Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd’s ABC sitcom followed the lives of the diverse Pritchett family.

Jay Pritchett, the patriarch of the family, is married to his second wife, Gloria, a Latina woman. Claire, his daughter, is married to the lovable and goofy Phil Dunphy. And Mitchell, Jay’s son, is gay and married to Cam. While Mitchell and Cam’s relationship gets a lot of praise, the fan noted the amount of homophobic content made at their expense.

Adam Sandler's Performance in Netflix's 'Jay Kelly' Is Already Getting Oscar Buzz
Image
Happy Gilmore star Adam Sandler could be all set for Oscar glory with his new movie. Sadly, no, it’s not Happy Gilmore 2. The beloved actor and comedian will reunite with Netflix once again for an upcoming coming-of-age comedy-drama, with a source who's seen the movie revealing that, not only will the streamer campaign hard for Sandler to be considered by the Academy, but that could even win a coveted golden statue.

Titled Jay Kelly, the movie is being helmed by Academy Award nominee and Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, and could be described as a coming-of-middle-age comedy as it follows friends, played by Sandler and George Clooney, who rediscover their youthful spirit during a chaotic reunion.

Now, buzz from an early screening (via World of Reel) has emerged, with “industry sources, journalists, and test reports” stating that Sandler steals the show in Jay Kelly, with the Billy Madison star delivering a career-best performance.

'Give Her a Special Award': Modern Family Star Recalls Unforgettable Background Actor Who Left Him Awestruck

Jesse Tyler Ferguson was one of the stars of Modern Family. But he has recently given a shout-out to someone who didn't even make it into the show's credits.

"But she must've [been] like, 'Well, I guess that's what they told me to do.' She's talking to thin air right behind me," Ferguson recalled. "Like it's right off my, like my left shoulder,...

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore Returning to Movie Theaters This April
Image
Fans of golf and/or hockey and/or Adam Sandler should mark their calendars for April 27th and 30th, as Universal Pictures has announced plans to re-release the seminal 1996 film Happy Gilmore in theaters.

Happy Gilmore was Sandler’s second major starring role following 1995’s Billy Madison. The movie featured the SNL alum as a hotheaded aspiring hockey player who discovers a more lucrative use for his killer slapshot — professional golf — just when he’s in desperate need of cash to save his grandmother’s house.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore also stars Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late great Carl Weathers. Ben Stiller makes an uncredited appearance as a nursing home orderly who abuses Happy’s grandma (Frances Bay).

Thanks to Universal, tickets are on sale now for the late April screenings on Fandango. While this re-release is happening a year before the movie’s official 30th anniversary,...

Sofia Vergara continues to be the face of Modern Family. Even years after the mind-blowing sitcom’s conclusion, many new fans get lured into the show thanks to Vergara’s charms. Her character, Gloria, became a style icon in the show, as much as a goof people loved to laugh with.

Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

“That would have been terrible”: I Love Matt LeBlanc but There’s No Way He Could’ve Replaced Ty Burrell in Modern Family
Image
There can only be one Phil Dunphy! And that man is Ty Burrell. If you believe otherwise, you’ve “gotta fix that step.” At least, that’s what Claire’s goofy yet earnest husband would tell you during his Modern Family run.

These days, you wouldn’t find Burrell making Emmy-approved waves on TV. After all, sources suggest he’s put his acting career on hold to play out the ‘cool dad’ persona in real life, courtesy of his daughters Gretchen and Frances. God bless him.

Now, most Modern Family diehards know that Ty Burrell wasn’t even ABC’s initial choice to play Phil Dunphy pre-filming. That honor belonged to fellow sitcom star Matt LeBlanc. And while it would be interesting to imagine Joey Tribbiani’s boyish charm adjusting to the silly dances of the Dunphy household,...

15 Best Modern Family Episodes Ranked
Image
In an age of sitcom reboots and sequels, is it too much to ask for one more season of "Modern Family" at some point? The hit ABC sitcom with a stellar ensemble cast ran for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020, and it will likely be remembered as the last family sitcom to dominate broadcast television before streaming gobbled everything up. It explored the love lives, parenting styles, and relationships of three couples within the same non-traditional (at least by 2009 standards) family tree.

Sadly, unless that rumored Rob Riggle spin-off somehow presents co-creator Steven Levitan with his golden opportunity to write the next great multi-cam sitcom, we've likely seen all we ever will of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker-Marshall family. But before you rush off to watch one of the many great shows that followed in its footsteps, let's revisit the 15 best "Modern Family" episodes -- ranked by humor, heart, and how much they made us...

"You Can't Make It Without Chubbs": 'Happy Gilmore 2' Director on Honoring Carl Weathers in Star-Studded Sequel [Exclusive]
Image
In 1996, Adam Sandler changed the game — literally — with Happy Gilmore, a wild, foul-mouthed sports comedy about a failed hockey player who channels his rage into becoming an unlikely golf star. Armed with a slapshot swing and zero etiquette, Happy took on snobby country clubs, rival pros, and an alligator — and somehow made golf cool for a generation raised on slapstick and smack talk. The film became an instant cult classic, catapulting Sandler into leading man status and embedding lines like “The price is wrong, bitch” and “Just tap it in” into the comedy lexicon. Nearly 30 years later, Happy’s coming out of retirement. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we spoke with director Kyle Newacheck about Happy Gilmore 2, which tees off on Netflix July 25, 2025.

With Sandler back in the lead — and co-writing alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy — the sequel isn’t a nostalgia trip or a cheap gimmick.

“That’s a place where comedies go to die”: Sofia Vergara’s ‘Modern Family’ Was Born Out of Pure Rage Against 1 Ruthless Studio
Image
Behind every great piece of art, there’s usually a story of struggle, rejection, or, in the case of Modern Family, it was pure, unfiltered frustration. One of the best sitcoms of our times wasn’t just a happy accident, it was born from the simmering rage of its creators.

But from this anger, they struck gold and redefined family comedy. With an unforgettable ensemble that featured Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, and more, the show turned out to be a cultural phenomenon. So, let’s dive into how the sitcom was born and what made it a game-changer.

Linda Lavin would be the 12th actress to receive a posthumous Emmy nomination
Image
Gone, but not forgotten.

Linda Lavin died Dec. 29, 2024, due to complications from lung cancer. At the time of her death, the beloved 87-year-old actress had filmed seven of 10 episodes of Mid-Century Modern, Hulu's new comedy starring Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham as gay best friends who decide to live together in Palm Springs.

Lavin's role of Sybil Schneiderman, the mother of Bunny (Lane), has been receiving Emmy buzz following the sitcom's premiere on March 28. She currently ranks among the top 10 for Best Comedy Supporting Actress, according to the Gold Derby odds. To date, only 11 actresses have received posthumous Emmy nominations, so Lavin would be in rare company, indeed.

Here's a clip of one of Lavin's final scenes from Mid-Century Modern. Sybil's spicy side is in full display as she yells at a stranger on the phone who's trying to con her, with Lavin delivering perfect comedic timing.

Claire Would’ve Been Crucified by Fans if ‘Modern Family’ Made Her Behave Like Phil Did Around Sofia Vergara’s Gloria
Image
When ABC show Modern Family first hit screens in 2009, it quickly became one of TV’s most beloved sitcoms, thanks to its progressive takes and hilarious characters. At the center of the comedy was Phil Dunphy, the goofy, lovable father. One of the running gags throughout the series was his infatuation with his stepmother-in-law, Gloria Pritchett.

Phil’s constant, often cringeworthy admiration for Gloria was meant to be funny. But looking back, it’s hard to ignore the fact that if Claire Dunphy had behaved the same way, the fanbase would have been quick to turn on her.

“We definitely shoot two different shows”: ‘Modern Family’ Success Is a Miracle When Its Co-creators Refused to Be Friends After First Season
Image
Modern Family, no doubt, stands as one of the most successful sitcoms of the past decade, drawing audiences back for multiple rewatches. The key to this success lies in the unique and occasional collaboration between its co-creators, Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan. Their innovative partnership has been instrumental in shaping the show’s exceptional success.

Despite the show’s growing popularity, the duo’s partnership had not always been smooth. In fact, their working relationship has been described as more of a distant agreement than traditional creative collaboration. That somehow worked well for the show’s long success.

At the heart of Modern Family‘s success was the unique dynamic between Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan. The pair’s contrasting approaches to storytelling and production led to an unorthodox working style that kept the show fresh and unpredictable.

“I couldn’t love that cast more”: ‘Modern Family’ Creator Makes His Stance Clear on Reboot After Sofia Vergara Demanded a Revival
Image
ABC’s groundbreaking hit, Modern Family, came to an end after 11 years in 2020. Although there was a farewell special episode included in the final season, many fans have been wondering if there might be a chance of the cast reuniting for the series soon. It is not exactly an uncommon demand in today’s landscape, as Hollywood seems to be obsessed with the idea of sequels and reboots these days.

Speaking on the same, Sofia Vergara once stated in an interview that she would love for the entire cast to come back on set together again. Interestingly, a Modern Family creator seems to have a different idea on the matter entirely.

Adam Sandler's 10-Year-Old Video Game Movie Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Adam Sandler's 2015 sci-fi comedy movie Pixels will soon have a new streaming home. It will be available on Netflix starting April 11.

Pixels was directed by legendary filmmaker Chris Columbus. Sandler stars as Sam Brenner, a former arcade video game champion who unites with other players to save the world from an alien attack. When the aliens misinterpret video footage of classic video games as a declaration of war, they use the games as blueprints for their invasion, leading President Will Cooper (Kevin James) to recruit Sam to engage the aliens in an all-out battle where the fate of the planet is at stake.

Pixels was inspired by Patrick Jean's 2010 short film, and Jean served as an executive producer on the film. The story drew on the nostalgia factor of classic retro arcade games, with Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders being licensed for the film. Pixels was released...

Ty Burrell is alive and well, but no one would have known it based on the internet’s reaction to his absence from the Modern Family reunion in 2023. Burrell has finally spoken out about the time the internet thought he had passed away. The actor, who became a household name playing the lovable and goofy dad, Phil Dunphy, on the hit sitcom, finally addressed the humorous situation.

“It’s kinda crazy they got an actor of that caliber”: Modern Family’s Wildest Cameo Was in Season 1 – A Marvel Star With 2 Oscar Nods, His Character Deserves a Spinoff
Image
In the world of sitcoms, only a few shows have managed to completely captivate the audience with their humour and sarcastic jabs. One such show was Modern Family, which can easily find its spot in the top three of every comedy fan. It presented a stellar ensemble out in the open and, just like any other show, also featured some of the most famous faces from Hollywood.

But one of the most unexpected appearances happened all the way back in Season 1, long before it became a comedy juggernaut. The show featured none other than Edward Norton, known for his intense performances in Fight Club, American History X and Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk. The role he played in the show was also a surprising delight for his fans.

“Gloria helped Jay learn and grow”: Sofia Vergara’s Gloria Gets a Lot of Hate, but ‘Modern Family’ Fans Ignore She Made Jay a Better Father Than Phil
Image
In the hit sitcom Modern Family, Jay Pritchett is known for his typical tough and patriarchal attributes, brought up with the values of family and masculinity. However, fans were in for a pleasant surprise as they saw his character arc undergo a complete shift from being someone with traditional values to a person with soft vulnerability with more acceptable traits.

It’s actually his marriage to Gloria Pritchett, that transforms him into a more empathetic and emotionally open father. While Gloria’s character had often been the subject of criticism, her influence on Jay’s development can not be understated. In fact, it’s Gloria who helps Jay become a better father, even surpassing Phil Dunphy in terms of emotional depth.

‘Cam was legitimately a bad person’: I’m Glad the ‘Modern Family’ Spinoff Didn’t Happen After the Original Show Ignored His Worst Flaw
Image
For 11 seasons, Modern Family won over the audience with its hilarious characters and touching moments. Among them was Cameron Tucker, the bubbly, over-the-top partner to Mitchell Pritchett. Cam was beloved for his larger-than-life personality, his love for drama, and his fun antics.

Eric Stonestreet as Cam in Modern Family | Credit: ABC

However, as the series progressed, it became increasingly clear that beneath Cam’s bubbly, comedic exterior, there was a darker, more toxic side to his personality. Unfortunately, Modern Family often ignored these flaws, leaving them unresolved, and that’s why I’m relieved that the proposed Modern Family spinoff never saw the light of the day.

Modern Family‘s Cam was way too toxic that the show rarely addressed

Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) toxic traits weren’t always obvious at first in Modern Family. He was charming, enthusiastic, and often the life of the party. But his tendency to...
