The release of "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," the "Hunger Games" prequel, is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to catch up on everything "Hunger Games" before the release of the film on Nov. 17. The prequel, which takes place 64 years prior to the events of the Hunger Games trilogy, follows the story of Coriolanus Snow (played by Tom Blyth) and his relationship with Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute and eventual victor of the 10th Hunger Games (played by Rachel Zegler).
The film will introduce new characters like Casca Highbottom (Peter Dinklage), the dean of the Academy, and Dr. Volumnia Gaul (Viola Davis), the head game maker. But the prequel will also feature familiar characters like Tigris Snow, Coriolanus's cousin, and one of the key characters that helped Katniss in the Capitol in "Mockingjay." In the original movies, Tigris is played by Eugenie Bondurant, but she'll be...

"More terrifying, more gruesome, all in color." Marvel Studios has unveiled a brand new 2023 trailer for their spin-off Halloween "Special Presentation" event called Werewolf by Night. It initially debuted last year during October as a one-off, one-hour-long B&w horror film from Marvel, directed by famed composer Michael Giacchino. It's now being re-released fully in color in 2023 (as "Werewolf by Night in Color"). The special stars the wonderfully talented actor Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell, a lycanthrope superhero who fights crime using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline. The great cast also includes Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Eugenie Bondurant, & Kirk R. Thatcher. The film introduces a whole bunch of new monsters from the Marvel universe, most notably the big lovable tree monster "Man-Thing" aka "Ted". I thought it played just fine in B&w last year, but I guess I'll watch it again in color this year.

Directed by Michael Giacchino, better known as the composer responsible for exceptional scores like those for "The Batman" and 2009's "Star Trek," "Werewolf by Night" is not your standard Marvel fare. That's clear from the opening credits, which unfold in a moody black and white, and are interspersed with violent claw slashes and crackling lightning bolts reminiscent of James Whale's "Frankenstein."
Marvel has dipped its toe into horror before, namely with the gleeful gore of "Blade" and Sam Raimi's chillingly macabre "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." Accordingly, "Werewolf by Night" feels like an affectionate love letter to the classic creature features of yore. Its premise is simple: Famed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone has shuffled from this mortal coil, leaving his position vacant and his magical artifact up for grabs. A group of fellow monster slayers are invited by Ulysses' widow to compete for his title, which...

On a dark and sombre night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader; the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic.
When I was much younger (probably from the time I was eight years old up until the time I was about sixteen), I thought every single thing the Marvel Cinematic Universe did was the best. I was always the one saying that they were constantly outdoing themselves with each new release. But… I was wrong. The MCU these days is just not the same as it used to be, and even some of their older projects have me questioning some of their quality. It seems as though,...

Review: Billed as a special presentation, Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night is in fact a standalone story that is too short to be a feature film and not long enough to be a series. Instead, it is about the length of a single episode of television but packs enough material to serve as the template for Marvel Studios to pump out any number of stories that don’t quite fit the bill for a movie or a show. The experiment works as Werewolf by Night is a blast from start to finish that allows Marvel Studios to play with more unusual aspects of their comic book source material without being dependent on massive budgets.

The upcoming Werewolf By Night is being billed as the first Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it likely won’t be the last. While speaking with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), Werewolf By Night director Michael Giacchino teased that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is eager to follow this with more “one-and-done” Marvel stories.
There have been rumours that Marvel Studios might transform some of their upcoming TV shows into these Special Presentations instead. Nothing has been confirmed at this point, but it does give Marvel another way to approach these stories. “It was perfect for me,” Michael Giacchino said of the hour-long runtime. “Because I wanted to do something in the vein of a really fun episode of The Twilight Zone or The Night Gallery.“

This article contains The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It spoilers.
Though the latest Conjuring movie, The Devil Made Me Do It, is named after the Arne Johnson murder case, whereby a young man claimed the crime he committed was caused by demonic possession, there’s an entirely new subplot that carries the body of the new film.
After the supposedly possessed Arne Johnson is held in custody awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend’s landlord, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are on a mission to discover how and why these possessions took place. While the Johnson case is based on real events, the reasons behind the possession, as posed within The Devil Made Me Do It, are completely fictional.

As you've probably already guessed, the Conjuring movies, while based on Ed and Lorraine Warren's actual investigations, don't exactly follow reality beat by beat. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, or The Conjuring 3, is no exception. The latest addition to the Conjuring universe follows the infamous 1981 case of Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor), a young man who claimed in court that the devil made him kill his landlord Alan Bono. The film doesn't go through Johnson's legal proceedings with a fine comb - the horror movie focuses more on how an occultist named Isla (Eugenie Bondurant) curses Johnson and his girlfriend Debbie Glatzel's (Sarah Catherine Hook) family. Johnson and the Glatzels are very much real people, but is the occultist an actual person? Long story short, Isla appears to be a fictional character who's used to propel the film's plot forward.
So, what's real in The Conjuring 3?...

The sun is shining brightly as Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O’Connor) stands up before the courtroom. On this bright, seemingly glorious day in God’s country, the young man who once sacrificed his own body to a demon in order to save a child is about to receive his verdict from the jury. And, even before the film’s ending crawl explains what that sentence will be, he appears aware enough to know he’s about to go to prison. Yet the musical score of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It swells with optimistic acceptance, and the scene is is unmistakably upbeat. How can this be a happy ending?
Because what can be so bad on a day like this after the long night everyone just endured? Seriously, think about it:...

Chicago – The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is our third official, not-counting-the-spinoffs foray into the “based on true events” shenanigans of Ed and Lorraine Warren, and it’s starting to show. If you’re a tea drinker and equally as frugal as I am, you have reused a tea bag to make a second (sometimes even a third) cup of tea.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The first cup will always be the strongest with the second cup still having a potent flavor, you just have to let it steep longer than the first cup. Everyone knows that by the time you get to making a third cup out of the same tea bag, the flavor infused in the water is a pale ghost of what it once was, tasting like a flat La Croix. The name of this watered-down flavor is called The Conjuring 3, but once you taste it you...

Warner Bros / New Line has debuted one final trailer for the chilling new horror sequel The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the third feature in The Conjuring franchise that originally started with James Wan's film in 2013. With the new psychological thriller Fear of Rain, actor turned writer-director Castille Landon takes a sharp turn away from her two previous directorial efforts, the family films Apple of My Eye and Albion: The Enchanted Stallion. Her third movie focuses on Rain Burroughs (Madison Iseman of the last two Jumanji sequels and Annabelle Comes Home), a young girl diagnosed with schizophrenia who isn’t sure what’s real and what isn’t — including the boy at school (Israel Broussard) who takes an interest in her.
Despite the entreaties of her parents (Katherine Heigl and Harry Connick Jr.) and the threat of being hospitalized, Rain does believe in the reality of one thing: that Dani (Eugenie Bondurant), the seemingly normal teacher who lives next door, is doing something awful in her attic.

“Am I crazy or is this really happening?” is by now a fairly familiar hook for thrillers. But Castille Landon’s “Fear of Rain” gets some fresh mileage from it by embedding us in the perspective of a teenager diagnosed with schizophrenia — and whose worries are thus dismissed as delusional when she decides a next-door neighbor is up to something nefarious.
Middling at best in terms of suspense mechanics, and not the most perceptive treatment of mental illness you’ll ever see, this nonetheless compels interest as a well-acted drama-cum-mystery whose heroine (like the kid in “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”) has some unique challenges to her amateur sleuthing. Lionsgate is releasing the feature to available theaters and on demand Feb. 12.

"You have now heard... a wild child came to us." Dark Sky Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Darlin', the feature directorial debut of Scottish actress Pollyanna McIntosh. The film is actually a sequel to the cult horror The Woman (2011), which starred Pollyanna McIntosh as a feral woman. She jumped on board and decide to write & direct the sequel, and star in it, some 8 years later. This one stars Lauryn Canny as another young feral woman found and sent to a Catholic hospital. Once there she undergoes a process of rehabilitation in an attempt to tame her savage behavior. But then her mother shows up to take her home and things get bloody. The cast includes Bryan Batt, Nora-Jane Noone, Cooper Andrews, Eugenie Bondurant, Peyton Wich, and Mackenzie Graham. This looks intensely grungy and grimy and brutal, not sure if it's going to be...

Though his books were seldom issued by major publishing houses, recently deceased author Jack Ketchum has become one of the big screen’s more frequently adapted U.S. novelists. “Darlin’” isn’t based on a Ketchum tome, per se, but it does have a through line to his work: It’s a sequel to Lucky McKee’s 2011 “The Woman,” which followed Andrew van den Houten’s 2009 “Offspring,” whose print source was a sequel to Ketcham’s 1980 debut novel “Off Season.” Ketchum earned writing credits on both films, and “Off Season” was the start of a series about a cannibalistic clan in the woods of rural Maine. At the end of “The Woman,” the titular feral captive of a “civilized” family kills her keepers and returns to the wilderness, the family’s children in tow.

After a long wait, the final part of The Hunger Games is here. Will Katniss and co get a proper send-off?
This review contains spoilers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
Brace yourself. The end of The Hunger Games is nigh, and it’s gonna hurt like hell.
At the end of Mockingjay Part 1, we left Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) tearfully watching her sometime lover Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) thrash against his restraints. District 13 had rescued the captive rebels from the Capitol, but weeks of torture had left them weak, confused, and even dangerous. President Coin (Julianne Moore) was gearing up her army for a new strike against the tyrannical President Snow’s (Donald Sutherland) regime, but actually winning the war looked like an impossible dream.
It was a bummer of a place to leave the story for a year, and it’s still a bummer when...
