Batman will go down in history as one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. Over the years, we have seen many iterations of the Caped Crusader in multiple animated series, movies, and video games. However, most of these iterations revolve around Bruce Wayne’s version of Batman.

Bruce Wayne as Batman | Source: Batman: The Animated Series

It wasn’t until 1999 that we saw a different version of Batman for the first time in Batman Beyond.

The writer of Batman Beyond opens up about how Terry McGinnis was different from Bruce Wayne

Batman Beyond was considered one of the most popular animated series back in the day. The series revolves around the story of Terry McGinnis, a teenage boy who is being trained by Bruce Wayne aka Batman himself to become his successor and watch over Gotham City. This is because The Caped Crusader has become too old himself.

Superman: The Animated Series Premiered 25 Years Ago Today
Image
It's a time to celebrate for fans of the Man of Steel as we've just reached the 25th anniversary of Superman: The Animated Series. Premiering on Kids' WB on Sept. 6, 1996, the cartoon was the second series in the DC Animated Universe following Batman: The Animated Series, which had been a big success. In stark contrast to Batman, however, Superman was much more vibrant and closer in tone to its source material, serving as one of the greatest adaptations of all time.

Alan Burnett and Bruce Timm developed Superman: The Animated Series, also writing the cartoon with Stan Berkowitz. Tim Daly provided the voice of Clark Kent, leading a cast that also included Dana Delany as Lois Lane, David Kaufman as Jimmy Olsen, and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. Many notable celebrities had also provided guest roles on the series including Roddy McDowall, Melissa Joan Hart, Ron Perlman, Malcolm McDowell, Gilbert Gottfried,...

Review: Batman Beyond: The Complete Series
The team at Warner Animation were enjoying unrivaled success with their 1990s offerings from Animaniacs to Batman: The Animated Series. As a result, as they retired Bats after 65 award-winning episodes, they decided to roll the dice on something bolder. For a change, they were looking to the future and not the comics for inspiration. What if, they wondered, Bruce Wayne aged out of being Batman but the need for the Caped Crusader remained? Who would inherit the mantle of the bat?

As it turns out, they settled on a teen, Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle), to cross paths with Wayne (Kevin Conroy). Where once he relied on Alfred or Oracle for guidance, now he would direct the actions of his unlikely successor in the series Batman Beyond.

Given the futuristic designs and strong storytelling, the audiences proved loyal to the new franchise and the show lasted 52 episodes, spawning fresh merchandising opportunities...

Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Is Coming To Blu-ray This Fall
When you consider how the producers behind Batman: The Animated Series were once instructed by execs at WB to develop a show about a “teenage Batman,” you can only imagine how things could’ve turned out horribly in less capable hands. But since we had the likes of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Glen Murakami at the helm, we got the gem that was Batman Beyond.

Long story short, this bold series took place fifty years after the events of the aforementioned Batman: Tas, and saw the young Terry McGinnis inherit the mantle of the Dark Knight – with an aged Bruce Wayne as his mentor, no less. Featuring the voice talents of Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy, a mostly all-new rogues gallery and a kick-ass heavy metal/electronica soundtrack, it’s no wonder this bad boy has lived on in the hearts of fans the world over.

Just as we predicted,...

WB May Be Making A Big Batman Beyond Announcement At Comic-Con
Despite a fair amount of beloved DC cartoons being released on Blu-ray, there remain some glaring omissions. Fortunately, Warner Bros. began crossing a few of their most iconic shows off the list last year when Batman: The Animated Series finally got the HD treatment. That said, one would think the likes of Superman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond won’t be far behind.

Although the Man of Steel’s adventures would be the next logical choice in a chronological sense, it appears as though fans of Terry McGinnis will get their wish granted first. The reason I’m saying that is because a “Batman Beyond 20th Anniversary” panel is being conducted at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 18 at 12:15 pm Pacific in the legendary Hall H. On hand will be producers Bruce Timm and Glen Murakami, casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano, director James Tucker, writers Bob Goodman and Stan Berkowitz,...

fashionably attractive or impressive.

"The no-lapel look is so schway right now!"

According to Batman Beyond, this is the hip slang of the future. You probably knew that already though, since you clicked on this article and everything.

Review: Superboy: The Complete Fourth Season
The Adventures of Superboy found its groove with the third season and a sense of stability was most welcome as the tone was consistent and the stories got stronger thanks to Stan Berkowitz and the increasing influence of DC editors Mike Carlin and Andy Helfer. Gerard Christopher as the title character had truly grown as a performer with time and Stacy Haiduk’s Lana Lang was every bit his match. As a result, things looked promising as production on the fourth season got underway in the summer of 1991.

However, the success of Batman in 1989 and that summer’s sequel, Batman Returns, meant there was fresh demand for super-heroes. DC Comics’ parent, Warner Bros., had already had limited success with The Flash on CBS and was looking to build. They needed Superman but that meant, in a bizarre twist, they filed suit against Alexander and Ilya Salkind to regain control of...

The DC comics animated movie are hit and miss for me. Some I like other I hate. The most recently film I saw was Batmas: Year One, and even though the animation was good, I didn't care for how it was brought to life. The direction was off, especially with the voice acting.

Last night saw the world premiere of Batman Live at the Manchester Evening News Arena and we were there to experience the £12m stage show that, judging by last nights display, looks set to take the world by storm. Featuring a huge cast, massive production and a story from comics writer Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers, The Oc), Stan Berkowitz, and Alan Burnett which focuses on the death of Dick Grayson’s family and his transformation into Batman’s sidekick Robin. But lets not forget the villains – and there are villains – Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Harley Quinn and even the Scarecrow… It’s a veritable who’s who of Bat-villains!

Whilst my full review of last nights events will be coming later today, I thought I’d satiate the thirst for Bat-news with these pics from the show:...

Andrea Romano Discusses Casting 'All-Star Superman'
To vocally craft the characters within the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, the production brain trust of DC Entertainment, Warner Premiere, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Animation is smart enough to employ the best in the business – on both sides of the microphone.

While winners of Oscars, Emmys and Tonys alike provide the voices behind some of the world’s best known comic book characters, it is the super hero of voice directors that guides these unique talents – Andrea Romano.

Arguably the top animation voiceover director in the business today, Romano has been instrumental in orchestrating the vocal tones behind the first 10 Dcu animated films, including the highly anticipated February 22 release of All-Star Superman.

The eight-time Emmy® Award winner (not to mention 30+ Emmy nominations) has a voiceover casting/direction resume that spans more than a quarter century, covering the genre gamut from action (Batman: The Animated Series) and humor...

Batman: The Animated Series (1992)
See Set Designs For Stage Production ‘Batman Live’
Batman: The Animated Series (1992)
With Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark fully revealed to the public (and struggling to evolve into a show worth paying more attention to) it's time to get more detail on the next superhero stage spectacular. That would be Batman Live, which is planned to premiere in Manchester this July, and which will then embark upon a tour of arenas in the UK and Europe before moving to Us arenas in summer 2012. Producer Nick Grace (Walking With Dinosaurs, Mamma Mia!) promises [1] a huge scale and went with arenas because they can accommodate "pyrotechnics and large video screens and lots of action." Now you can see some set designs for the show, which certainly seem to use the potential for a large scale. If the sets come together like that, they'll be visually impressive, for certain. Lots of room for movement and action, and the circus set promises good stuff for the telling of Robin's origin.

Warner Bros. Developing ‘Batman Live!’ Stage Show
Move over Spider-Man, there’s a new caped crusader looking to take over the stage! Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are looking into developing a live Batman stage show to tour across the country. While the idea was ultimately a flop for Marvel and “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark”, DC and WB think that the idea will flourish, as it’s not a musical or broadway-style production.

This would be an arena production made for kids, like Disney on Ice or Cirque De SoLe, just less trippy and erotic. Also unlike the failed Spidey musical, there will be some veteran comic talent behind this production. From Heat Vision:

Alan Burnett and Stan Berkowitz, longtime animation veterans whose credits include Batman and Superman television shows as well as such animated movies as “Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” and “Justice League: The New Frontier,” are writing the story and script. The...
