Stephen Amell starred as Oliver Queen a.k.a Green Arrow in the CW series Arrow. The show spawned the Arrowverse, including shows such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and more. It went on for eight seasons, ending in 2019. The show crossed over with other shows in the Arrowverse and saw many prominent DC characters make an appearance.
While the show included popular characters such as Deathstroke, Black Canary, and the Monitor, the makers revealed that they never intended to introduce some of these characters so early into the show. Characters such as Deathstroke and Arsenal a.k.a Roy Harper appeared in season 1 of the show despite being planned for much later.

One major problem that plagued most Arrowverse shows was CW’s inability to end them at the right time. While most of them started on a high note, especially Grant Gustin’s The Flash, which was the biggest superhero show on TV upon its release, the writers couldn’t carry the momentum in the later seasons. But things could have been very different for the CW show that started it all, Arrow.
Had CW stuck to the original plans for the show, Arrow could’ve ended on a really high note, as instead of going on for 8 seasons, season 5 was originally intended to be the show’s end.

DC Comics has no dearth of power packed characters. Who wouldn’t be afraid of the might of Superman or even Darkseid for that matter. And the wit of Batman needs no introduction. But what if we told you that there is one character in the comic book universe who has got Bruce Wayne’s wit and talent for strategy, while he has also got Superman’s brawns. There is one, though – Deathstroke. The mighty assassin is one of DC Comics’ most dreaded. But the Arrowverse could not do the character justice.

Liam McIntyre as Spartacus
Starz is ready to return to the world of gladiators with a new chapter in the Spartacus franchise. Spartacus series creator Steven S. DeKnight is also diving back into ancient Rome as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the new series.
“It’s such an incredible honor to be invited to return to the world of Spartacus and to be met with unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate,” said Steven S. DeKnight. “Together we are crafting something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story.”
DeKnight took to Twitter to confirm he’s currently writing the pilot.
Spartacus aired for four seasons on the network, kicking off in 2010 with Spartacus: Blood and Sand starring Andy Whitfield in the title role. Tragically, Whitfield passed away in September 2011 of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Liam McIntyre took over the role beginning in season two.

Everyone, get out your swords and sandals because we're heading back to the arena! Starz has just announced that it is currently developing a new "Spartacus" series! Forgive the excessive use of exclamation points, but I loved every minute of this show from the first moment to the last, including the prequel "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena."
The first season of the series was entitled "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and debuted in 2010. Before the second season, star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading to the prequel to give him time to recover. Sadly, he passed away, and the role was recast with Liam McIntyre for season 2, "Spartacus: Vengeance" and season 3, "Spartacus: War of the Damned."
The show was, as our title says, very sexy. Still, it was also a compelling drama about the titular Thracian gladiator who led a revolt of enslaved people against the Roman empire.

Thorns: "Something terribly wrong is happening inside NASA’s Iron Mountain observatory. It received an image from a deep space probe from what appears to be the edge of the solar system. On screen an eclipsed planet of unknown origin. Could this be the fabled 9th planet mankind has been searching for? An eerie signal transmits over the speakers, a rhythmic drone possibly a signal from the planet? But wait, something more. Deep within the signal, a faint sinister chatter. It sounds demonic. Have we discovered life across the galaxy? Down the hall, a distraught scientist, Dr. Malik. sits on the cold restroom floor looking unkept and unshaven. He hasn’t slept in days and appears deeply unnerved. Voices in his head motivate him to the mirror where he looks deep into his eyes. Wait, what is that? Something crawling in his eye? A black shape slithers across his sclera.

(Los Angeles, CA) The dystopian science-fiction audio drama Broken Road, created by Fear The Walking Dead writer Jacob Pinion and Hero Mode producer E.J. Kavounas, has published its entire ten-episode first season, following a veteran struggling with obsolete military implants who teams up with a defiant farmer and her daughter against a corrupt, morally unhinged lawman. The first season has reached over 100K downloads.
Broken Road offers something for everyone: action-packed fight scenes, quiet moments of personal struggle, romantic tension, and human connection. At its core, it is a story of community-based resilience and resourcefulness in the face of unrelenting corporate greed and seemingly insurmountable forces. Based on the short story “Patience Lake” by Matthew Claxton, writers Pinion and Kavounas were inspired by the subject.

As relayed at the start of Tearepa Kahi’s thriller Muru (a Māori word for their process of redressing transgressions), the facts are undeniable. In 1916, the police staged a raid to arrest Tūhoe prophet Rua Kenana on charges of sedition (he would later be acquitted and instead charged with resisting). A half-hour gunfight ensued leaving two dead and six wounded. Then the police staged another in 2007 to arrest leader Tame Iti for organizing what they called a “domestic terrorist” cell only to later apologize and admit their actions set relations back decades. It’s no wonder the film’s first frame states that New Zealand’s police don’t “endorse” its content.

Spartacus actor Ioane “John” King has died, aged 49.
The New Zealand actor, who played gladiator Rhaskos in the US series, was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in January 2022.
King’s family announced his death on a fundraising page set up for the actor. He died on 15 August.
“This is an update regarding John,” they wrote, adding: “With sadness we share that earlier today John’s fight ended. He passed in the company of loving friends and family.
“John leaves a big hole in this world, having been a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend and human being. Those of us lucky to have met him will carry on with his legacy of kindness, positive influence, hard work and love.
“Please, if you can, continue to support John’s family through their own fight in this difficult period.”

Ioane “John” King, who started as an extra on the Starz historical drama Spartacus before being elevated to the recurring fan-favorite role of Rhaskos, died on Aug. 15. He was 49.
The actor’s passing was announced by his family on a Facebook page devoted to his battle with adenocarcinoma cancer. The message noted that the New Zealander died surrounded by friends and family.
His family had launched a fundraising page in March to cover medical expenses. The site noted that King was diagnosed with cancer in January, with the illness found in his pancreas and other organs, and that he began chemotherapy in March.
Spartacus alum Manu Bennett paid tribute to his former co-star on Instagram, praising King for facing cancer “with dignity and a constant resolve not to be defeated.” Bennett went on to say that despite King having been hired on the gladiator series as an extra,...

I,oane ‘John’ King, one of the prominent cast members of the Starz drama Spartacus, has died at age 49 of adenocarcinoma cancer, which spread to his pancreas and other organs.
He announced his condition in January. No information on where he died was available.
The New Zealand actor played gladiator “Rhaskos” in the series.
Manu Bennett, who played Crixus in the show, paid tribute to his co-star on Instagram.

Seth MacFarlane never considered adapting the “Ted” films for television until Peacock suggested it – partly because he thought it would be too expensive, and partly because it was hard to imagine creating a series about the foul-mouthed stuffed bear without Mark Wahlberg playing his trusty companion.
“For me, the challenge was really how does this character exist in a world without Mark Wahlberg?” MacFarlane said at Sunday’s PGA Produced By conference. “That was really a two-hander. The movie was a real feat of visual effects work for the artists who did it. But also, if you look at the raw footage before the bear was placed into it, a lot of it was Mark.”
The 2012 film and its sequel starred Wahlberg as John Bennett, a 30-something slacker whose best friend is Ted (MacFarlane), a stuffed-animal bear that he wished into life as a young boy. The duo mostly sits...

It seems every decade, DC and Marvel each introduce a major threat that captures the readership’s imagination. In the 1980s, for DC that was Deathstroke, a wonderfully complex opponent to the New Teen Titans, reaching a high point with the much-lauded “The Judas Contract” storyline in 1985. In the hands of writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez, he rose head and shoulders above most other super-villains of the day.
Since then, he has been used by virtually every writer, pitting him against most every mask and cape in the DC Universe. He’s successfully crossed over to animation and even live-action television and film. As a result, depending on the creators involved, he remains a fascinating, deadly threat or a run of the mill villain used to merely show up the hero.

The first scene of Arrow‘s series finale revisited that fateful night where Slade Wilson held Moira Queen at gunpoint, only to holster his weapon… and instead run her through with his sword. Except this time around, Oliver untied his hands in time to rise up and tackle his arch enemy, so that in this reborn universe, his and Thea’s mother would live to see another day.
The changed-up sequence played out seamlessly, as if series alum Manu Bennett was actually in the rewritten scene from Season 2, Episode 20. And that is because he was. No stand-in or reshoot here.

Arrow might be finishing very soon, but that won’t be the end for this corner of the Arrowverse. A spinoff titled Green Arrow and the Canaries has already been announced, set to star Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak as well as Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy’s Black Canaries. It’s likely to inherit a lot of characters from its parent show, then, including, at least potentially, one of Arrow‘s biggest villains.
Manu Bennett’s Deathstroke hasn’t been seen since season 6, but We Got This Covered is hearing that Slade Wilson might be due for a comeback in the spinoff series. It’s currently unknown exactly what his role will be, but our sources – the same ones who told us about this spinoff back in March well before The CW announced it – have said that we should expect to see Deathstroke turn up in some capacity. If you ask an average Arrow fan for the show’s best ever big bad, they’ll probably say Deathstroke. On top of his status in DC lore, Slade Wilson served as Oliver Queen’s nemesis in the series’ acclaimed second season and has returned a few times since then. But could Manu Bennett reprise his role again in Arrow‘s eighth and final run? The CW hasn’t announced anything just yet, but it certainly seems as if he may.
We Got This Covered has heard from our sources – the same ones who told us about the Arrow spinoff back in March, and that both Tom Welling and Katherine McNamara would be involved in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” – that there’s a good chance Bennett will show up in Arrow season 8. Reflecting back on what Arrow has accomplished over the years, it’s very difficult not speaking of Deathstroke when doing so. After all, Manu Bennett’s take on the world’s deadliest mercenary was among those first making the character a household name after decades of being known only to comic book readers and viewers of the Teen Titans animated series.
Strangely enough, Bennett has been altogether absent from Arrow‘s eighth and final season, most likely due to Slade Wilson currently being played by Esai Morales over on DC Universe’s Titans. Still, the Deathstroke persona itself has been permitted to be utilized on The CW – it’s just that other guys have been donning the iconic mask.

From where I’m sitting, it’s raining Deathstrokes.

With Manu Bennett’s Slade Wilson unlikely to return for Arrow‘s eighth and final season and the character now being played by Esai Morales over on DC Universe’s Titans, The CW somehow managed to have him remain in the Arrowverse in some fashion. Ingeniously enough, the Deathstroke animated series we’ve been hearing about for some time will serve that purpose.
In the tradition of Vixen, Freedom Fighters: The Ray and Constantine: City of Demons, Deathstroke: Knights and Dragons will be the next animated web series to air on The CW Seed online streaming site. No concrete premiere date has been given at the time of this writing, but the first of twelve episodes will air beginning sometime in the first quarter of 2020.

When I first got into comics I would only really see Green Arrow in DC group shots in adverts and stuff. My train of thought at the time was ‘Oh The Avengers have an archer so naturally so do the Jla.’ I really got into the character a few years later when I picked up Kevin Smiths ‘Quiver’ story arc from the local library. I was going with the association of Smith’s name rather than anything else, but I absolutely loved it! Later from the same library I was able to pick up the following story arc. Fast forward a few years from that and all of a sudden Oliver Queen is the face of a brand new TV series that would run for 8 seasons and launch a very successful DC TV universe. Hopefully the show has done its job and brought a new audience to Green Arrow comics.

When it was first revealed that Esai Morales would be playing Deathstroke on Titans, some fans were probably saddened because it likely meant that we’d seen the last of Manu Bennett’s iteration of the character over on Arrow. But then again, it’s pretty difficult to produce a series featuring this particular super group without including the man who’s arguably their greatest nemesis, and there was no way to do that without another actor.
So, even though we’re only a few episodes deep into season 2, Morales has proven worthy of adding to Deathstroke’s legacy. What’s more is that he satisfies those out there who prefer Slade Wilson as being the white-haired guy who’s seen his share of battle. His performances have been just as nuanced as those of Bennett’s, not to mention he comes off as being just as intimidating and methodical.

As the highly anticipated second season of Titans inches ever closer, we’re seeing more promotional material surfacing online. It was only a few weeks ago that the first trailer began making its rounds in cyberspace, which was a real treat for those not able to attend San Diego Comic-Con last month.
This time, the teaser comes in the form of a poster. Sure, there was another that dropped back in July, but I much prefer this offering. Seen below, it better encompasses the expanding cast, and is overall more pleasing to the eye.
In addition to returning favorites such as Dick Grayson (who is conspicuously neither Robin or Nightwing), Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, Hawk, Dove, Jason Todd as Robin and a Donna Troy proudly wearing her Wonder Girl attire, new faces like Superboy and Ravager are included in the grouping, while Deathstroke ominously stands alone at the bottom.

Okay, I’m aware that Chase didn’t show up until season 5, but his villainy was a product of events occurring during season 1’s time frame. The second episode, meanwhile, will be a callback to season 3, and will feature Rila Fukushima as Katana.

With Arrow‘s eighth and final season rapidly approaching, it’s safe to say we’ll be reunited with a fair amount of familiar faces from the past before the show ultimately wraps. Already, we’ve received confirmation on Colin Donnell (Tommy Merlyn), Josh Segarra (Adrian Chase) and Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen) returning, though there’ll obviously be a few more along the way.
If I had to fire off a couple more names that are no doubt topping wishlists, John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn), Willa Holland (Thea Queen) and Manu Bennett (Slade Wilson/Deathstroke) should all be mentioned. Production on the eighth and final season of Arrow is now underway, and star Stephen Amell has been documenting as much as he can of it without spoiling anything on social media. In particular, as the show is winding down, he’s taking the time to thank the cast and crew on Instagram as each subsequent episode wraps. In his latest post, following completion of episode 2, the actor has teased that another mystery guest star will turn up on season 8.
Someone Amell thanks in the video below is an as-yet-unannounced returning player, whom he calls “gracious” for coming back to the series. Whoever this is follows on from Colin Donnell and Josh Segarra, who’ve previously been confirmed to be reprising their roles as Tommy Merlyn and Prometheus in the final run.
