Inspired by, but definitely not closely adapted from, Amy Chozick’s 2018 book Chasing Hillary, The Girls on the Bus may be on Max, but it’s a throwback to a certain type of broad, big-hearted, semi-topical dramedy that TV fans used to associate with The WB.
As a female-forward workplace buddy comedy with soapy undertones, The Girls on the Bus (Chozick and The Vampire Diaries mastermind Julie Plec are credited as creators) is quite good — the casting is strong, the character dynamics appealing. As a show about journalism, The Girls on the Bus is decent — smart about a lot of things, dumb about others, but not disproportionately. As a political thriller, The Girls on the Bus is mostly a crock.
It comes together as a whole that’s not really a guilty pleasure — for the millionth time, stop being guilty about the things you like — but definitely one where you...

Exclusive: Mark Consuelos has joined the cast of HBO Max’s The Girls on the Bus in a recurring role.
Consuelos will portray a major Hollywood action star-turned-politician who joined the presidential race after a Twitter poll said 46 percent of Americans would vote for him — regardless of party affiliation.
From writers Amy Chozick and Julie Plec, The Girls On The Bus centers on Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), a journalist who romanticizes Tim Crouse’s Boys on the Bus book and who scrapped her whole life for her own shot at covering a presidential campaign for the paper of record. Sadie hits the trail and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace (Carla Gugino), Lola (Natasha Behnam), and Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore). Despite their differences, the women become a found family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in town: the battle for the White House.

Director Eduardo Rodriguez has been, at least for me, something of a underrated talent. His first Hollywood movie, Stash House, was an effective action thriller and his follow-up, El Gringo, was a superb film and star-making vehicle for action star Scott Adkins. And – at least for me – his Fright Night sequel-c0me-remake was a decent entry in the franchise and one that I enjoyed more than the Colin Farrell iteration. So when I discovered his latest feature film, You’re Not Alone, was due out this week – after apparently being filmed in 2016 under the title Unwanted – I knew I had to check it out… And I’m glad I did.

Vampires vs the Bronx trailer is out now and it looks every bit as fun and scary.
Netflix has released the first full trailer for the upcoming horror-comedy just in time for Halloween.
Vampires vs the Bronx follows a group of young friends from the Bronx who come together to defend their neighborhood from a band of blood-sucking vampires.
"You all know how this starts," says one of the main characters from the film. "They're turning it into apartments?" another kid asks shortly after they watch a local courthouse being changed into a modern apartment block. "White people with canvas bags? That's always the first sign."

Ever wonder what effect a crosstown might have on vampires? Netflix’s upcoming horror comedy is an educational look at an urban problem. There’s a lot of things happening in the neighborhood right now. Keep your eyes open. That may sound vague, but the new Vampires vs. the Bronx trailer is about a silent threat: gentrification. And it’s not just any old white people buying up property in the Boogie Down Bronx; it’s ancient old people who stay that way by sucking the blood out of locals while draining the community of anything special. Have you noticed those missing kids’ posters?
Vampires vs. the Bronx comes from Dominican Republic-raised director Oz Rodriguez, who has worked on Saturday Night Live, A.P. Bio, The Last Man On Earth, and Shrill and Sunnyside.
