Charlize Theron Appears At Netflix Upfront Following Injury On Set Of ‘Apex’: “My Cute Boot Is Hiding A Fractured Toe”
Image
Charlize Theron took the stage at Netflix’s 2025 Upfront “fresh off the mountain” from filming Apex, where she was injured on the set.

The star joked about hiding her fractured toe during filming on the film’s set in Australia.

“God, I miss early mornings in the wilderness, birds chirping, extremes babbling, and the leaves rustling as a serial killer waits for me,” Theron jokingly set at the Netflix event. “It’s actually a miracle that I’m here today. Apex only wrapped like a week ago, so I’m fresh off the mountain. I still have some Australian dirt under this pretty manicure, and my cute boot is hiding a fractured toe.”

Theron noted that filming Apex “was one of the most incredible experiences” of her life, adding, “We shot in beautiful locations, deep in gorgeous and stunning rivers in Australia, is no man’s land, literally no like no man’s land.

How Brad Pitt Transformed Into Achilles For Troy – The Workout, Diet & Sacrifices Behind That Warrior Body!
Image
Transformation Of Brad Pitt As Achilles (Photo Credit – Netflix)

Wolfgang Petersen’s directorial, Troy, is one of the most popular historical dramas, starring Brad Pitt as the Greek hero Achilles. The actor bulked up significantly for the role, delivering what many considered a new standard for Hollywood’s golden physique. The epic saga of swords and scandals was filmed over the course of a year and proved to be the most physically demanding role of Pitt’s career.

The director, Wolfgang Petersen, had only one demand: Brad Pitt had to embody the look of a warrior—with long blonde hair and a sculpted physique. And the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor did just that, transforming into a buffed and burnished Greek hero who commanded the Bronze Age battlefields, complete with bulging biceps and a leather skirt. Wondering how he achieved the physique of Achilles? Keep reading.

15 Greatest Post-WW2 War Movies of All Time, Ranked
Image
War movies have always been a controversial topic in Hollywood, particularly due to the politics surrounding them. Most filmmakers tend to stay away from them, while others try to stick to World War I or World War II-related films. The post-WW2 war movies mostly deal with the American soldiers fighting the wars in other countries, which is a controversial topic in itself.

Over the years, filmmakers have tackled topics like the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the war on drugs in the bordering countries, and the presence of the US forces in Afghanistan. These films often explore the moral ambiguity and the dehumanizing nature of such wars. Some films explore the physical and mental toll that wars have on the soldiers. Here are some of the best films tackling these issues.

Guy Ritchie’s Underrated Epic With This 'Sons of Anarchy' Star Returns To Streaming After 8 Years
Image
Over the years, numerous filmmakers have tried their hand at adapting the legendary tale of King Arthur, with varying degrees of success. David Lowery's The Green Knight, John Boorman's Excalibur, and Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur rank among the most acclaimed. However, other worthy entries exist, including Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), a bold and subversive take on the myth whose glorious destiny was sadly denied by a critical tongue-lashing and subsequent box office failure. While not without its flaws, Legend of the Sword was not nearly as bad as the critics deemed it, at least in the eyes of the fans. It has since been regarded as one of the most underrated Arthurian adaptations, and this May, Peacock is offering a new chance for audiences to appreciate Ritchie's daring vision.

The Incredible Hulk TV series creator Kenneth Johnson shares theory on why the Hulk movies flopped
'The Incredible Hulk' creator Kenneth Johnson believes the two Hulk movies flopped because the audiences didn't accept the CGI character in the real world. The 82-year-old screenwriter-and-producer was responsible for bringing the Marvel Comics character to life on the small screen in the iconic TV series which ran from 1977 to 1982 and starred Bill Bixby as Dr. David Bruce Banner and professional bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno as the giant green brute.Johnson, like audiences, was underwhelmed with Universal's two films; Ang Lee's 2003 'Hulk' and Louis Leterrier's 'The Incredible Hulk', released in 2008, and the reason for both movies box office drop-offs and lukewarm reviews was that it was hard to accept the CGI Hulk acting against the human cast.Speaking to Bang Showbiz, he said: "After the first movie came out it opened really big, but the second week it was the historic fall...

The 27 Best War Movies of the 21st Century, from ‘Dunkirk’ to ‘The Hurt Locker’
Image
[Editor’s note: This list was originally published in June 2017. It has since been updated with new entries.]

Ron Perlman would have us believe that war never changes, but the movies about it certainly have. The last 20 years have brought no shortage of films about the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan (for obvious reasons), but the best war movies of the 21st century show that World War II continues to fascinate filmmakers most of all.

While those conflicts have dominated the genre lately, everything from the Civil War to the Battle of Red Cliffs has found powerful expression onscreen. Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” tells us that “war is a drug,” and the films below suggest that movies about war are just as addictive — maybe even more so. We hope this list provides your fix.

With contributions from Anne Thompson and Michael Nordine.

27. “1917” (2019)

Drawing inspiration from his own grandfather’s war stories, Sam Mendes made a war film that’s as nakedly sentimental and admiring toward...

Hulk Actor Revealed Real Reason Ang Lee Will Never Return to Marvel
Image
The 2000s were a roaring period for Cbms, which made many superheroes cinematic mainstays, especially when it came to Marvel. And with the MCU going all in on the nostalgia with its multiversal saga, many fan favorites from this era are now in the realm of possibility for a potential return, except Ang Lee’s Hulk.

Hulk (2003) | credit: Universal Pictures

Although the standalone Hulk features didn’t fare well among fans and critics at the time, in retrospect, Lee’s Hulk is often considered a misunderstood classic, and it’s easy to see why. But unlike Sam Raimi, who returned to his comic book roots with Doctor Strange 2, Lee’s return within the MCU confines remains highly unlikely.

Hulk proved to be a painful venture for Ang Lee

At a time when superhero media heavily prioritized its scale and action, Ang Lee’s Hulk was more character-driven and unorthodox in its approach.

A Brad Pitt Western Flop Is One Of The Best Movies Of The 2000s
Image
There was a time when the Western was every bit as popular as the superhero movies of today. Well, perhaps not of today, considering Marvel should arguably allow the Marvel Cinematic Universe to die. But Western films have been integral to the history of cinema since the silent era, becoming a reliably popular genre throughout the first half of the 20th century before diminishing in the latter half. Even then, however, we still got some outstanding efforts as the 20th century drew to a close, and even the last decade has seen some great Westerns released.

Of course, as the genre persisted, it transmogrified. Westerns began by telling simple stories of good vs evil only to morph into the kind of revisionist fare we've seen in more recent decades. These more complex takes on the genre subvert well-established tropes and standards in order to re-evaluate Westerns and the often real-life stories on which they're based.

Long before Ty Burrell became a household name as the lovable Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, he appeared in one of Ridley Scott’s war movies. He starred in one of the most influential war movies of the past two decades. It marked one of his earliest appearances in a movie, setting the stage for his later fame.

Based on the 1999 non-fiction bestseller, the movie tells the harrowing story of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, where U.S. military forces faced disastrous setbacks in Somalia. At this point, you might have already guessed the movie’s name. Yes, Burrell appeared in Ridley Scott’s 2001 hit, Black Hawk Down, a landmark movie that continues to redefine the war movie genre.

15 Best Movies Like Troy
Image
Wolfgang Petersen's "Troy" is a relic of a time when the Hollywood epic was still a healthy, consolidated institution -- before the superhero boom largely replaced it with "grounded," smaller-scale, mostly-contemporary set blockbusters. Starring Brad Pitt as Achilles, Diane Kruger as Helen, Eric Bana as Hector, Orlando Bloom as Paris, Brian Cox as Agamemnon, Sean Bean as Odysseus, and a host of legends including Peter O'Toole and Julie Christie in smaller roles, Petersen's 2004 film offers a loose, condensed reimagining of Homer's "Iliad," chronicling the most legendary of all ancient conflicts: the Trojan War.

While full of historical and literary liberties, "Troy" is a muscular, stirring movie that, seen today, feels like a throwback to a time when American tentpole movies were still driven by a chief concern to be fun. In that spirit, here are 15 other cinematic epics and historical blockbusters that will also show you a great,...

Hungry for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’? Check Out Last Year’s Take on the Same Story Starring Ralph Fiennes Right Now
Image
The excitement for Christopher Nolan's next film is already building at an enormous pace. The Odysseyisn't due to be released in cinemas until July 2026, but when the first images of Matt Damon's character in full costume were released earlier this year, fans already started envisaging an all-timer of a film. Nolan's film adapts the second poem from the ancient Greek poet Homer, with the first poem, The Iliad, previously being adapted by Wolfgang Petersen into Troy, the historical epic starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana. That film is, in essence, the spiritual prequel to Nolan's film, both in history and mythology.

XXX: Vin Diesel’s 007-clone wasn’t the threat to the franchise everyone thought
Image
In the summer of 2001, Vin Diesel became a household name. The Fast and the Furious, which was designed as little more than a modestly budgeted action programmer, became the breakout hit of that summer, capturing the cultural zeitgeist in a way that’s hard to reverse engineer. It was a major hit with the youth market. Diesel, with his bald head, muscular physique and unforgettable voice became the decade’s first icon, with audiences fascinated by his macho vibe, ambiguous ethnicity, and signature look. Studios didn’t waste any time building a star vehicle around him, with Sony making him the lead of a new super spy franchise they hoped would give James Bond some serious competition. The film, XXX, was among the most hyped films of the decade, with many thinking it would be such a phenomenon that it would make the Bond franchise irrelevant. That didn’t quite happen,...

The Deadliest Character In Star Trek History
Image
In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Survivors", an underrated episode, the U.S.S. Enterprise arrives at a remote colony on the planet Delta Rana IV, responding to a distress call. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) finds that the entire planet is dead, an uninhabitable desert wasteland. Mysteriously, however, there is a single house left standing, located in a small, inhabitable bubble. Several Enterprise crew members beam down to investigate and find a well-maintained lawn surrounding a completely untouched manse. The officers are greeted by Kevin and Rishon Uxbridge (John Anderson and Anne Haney), a kindly elderly couple who welcome them inside for tea.

The Uxbridge's do not seem to fully acknowledge that the rest of their planet has been completely wasted. They said they witnessed an attack by aggressive aliens called the Husnock but were unaware they were the only survivors. The longer the Enterprise says, the stranger things become.

Only One Hulk Movie Has Nailed This Important Part Of The Marvel Character
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Will there ever be another Hulk movie? Oh, I'm sure Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner will pop back up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, probably in "Avengers: Doomsday" and/or "Secret Wars." But due to Universal Pictures maintaining ownership over some Hulk movie rights, Marvel Studios can currently only feature him as a member of an ensemble.

Marvel Studios' first and only solo Hulk film wasn't a big success. 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" got a middling response and still stands as the series' earliest black sheep. That movie's star, Edward Norton, was recast and the film only got a direct sequel recently in, of all pictures, "Captain America: Brave New World." But the not-so-"Incredible Hulk" wasn't the first Hulk movie.

"The Incredible Hulk" emerged out of plans for a sequel to Ang Lee's 2003 movie, "Hulk." That film...

Netflix Release Schedule 2026: New Movies and Series Expected Next Year
Image
It seems a bit premature, but we wanted to have a place where we could begin tracking upcoming Netflix Originals expected to be hitting our screens in 2026. This is an extension to our 2025 movie and TV schedule, which we’ll continue to keep updated throughout 2025.

Important note: Given how far out we are from 2026, everything on this list is highly subject to change. We’ll keep it updated throughout 2025 and into 2026 with the latest confirmations of releases. As of right now, for most titles listed below, we’ve made assumptions based on filming schedules and/or if they’ve been excluded from the 2025 schedule. Of course, Netflix’s development slate is certainly much bigger than what this list implies, with likely well over 1,000 projects that have been announced or titles being worked on behind the scenes, although many will not see the light of day.

Joe Rogan: “You are lying to me” Hates Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Still Thinks Edward Norton Is the Best Hulk Marvel Ever Had
Image
Mark Ruffalo took over from Edward Norton in the MCU. The Avengers featured Mark Ruffalo in the role of Bruce Banner/ The Hulk, a role that he did not essay in The Incredible Hulk. Joe Rogan believes that Ruffalo’s predecessor, Edward Norton, was the best Hulk that there was, putting him even above Eric Bana’s version of the character.

Edward Norton’s version of the character was widely well-received for the emotional complexity that he brought to the table with The Hulk. However, Mark Ruffalo’s version of the character, especially with Smart Hulk (who debuted in Avengers: Endgame), has not struck a chord with Joe Rogan, who loved how terrifying Edward Norton’s Hulk was.

Mark Ruffalo’s Smart Hulk just does not vibe with Joe Rogan Mark Ruffalo...

Eric Bana Fills Out His Physical Media Collection with a Visit to the Criterion Closet — Watch Here
Image
Eric Bana loves a good Steve McQueen movie. During his visit to the Criterion Closet, the Australian actor — known for his performances in Steven Spielberg’s “Munich” and Ang Lee’s “Hulk” — started his selections by praising the work of Anthony Hopkins in Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs,” but quickly shifted gears toward one of McQueen’s first films, the 1958 version of “The Blob.”

“I grew up in a time where these movies weren’t readily accessible, so you’d have to wait for them to come on television,” said Bana. “And if it was a Saturday and ‘The Blob’ came on, it was like, ‘Game on, we are sitting through ‘The Blob.” I’ve probably seen this film 10 times over the course of my life.”

He added, “This is one of Steve McQueen’s early films, but…one of the most ridiculous films of all time.

‘Prison Cell 211’ Netflix Review: Diego Calva Led Crime Drama Takes Too Long To Make Its Point
Image
Prison dramas are strange. It’s certainly not my go-to genre when it comes to recommending films or TV shows, and it is definitely not something I gravitate to in my free time. But if I come across one by chance, and if it’s even half-decent, I can assure you that I’ll stick with it all the way to the end. That’s how I came across masterpieces like The Great Escape, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Hurricane. I watched Starred Up for Jack O’Connell, Chopper for Eric Bana, Bronson for Tom Hardy, A Prayer Before Dawn for Joe Cole, Gridiron Gang for Dwayne Johnson, The Longest Yard for Adam Sandler, and Brawl in Cell Block 99 for Vince Vaughn. Also, Chicken Run is undoubtedly up there with the greats. Now, when it comes to TV shows, I don’t show the same kind of zeal.

Eric Bana Joins Netflix Survival Thriller ‘Apex’ Starring Charlize Theron
Eric Bana
Actor Eric Bana (Deliver Us from Evil) has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming survival thriller Apex, described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, Deadline reports today.

Bana joins previously announced stars Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton (Carry-On).

Written by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge” television series), Apex “follows a rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.” Robbins’ spec script was selected as part of 2021’s The Black List, an annual buzzy compendium of the year’s most-liked unproduced Hollywood screenplays.

The spec script’s logline gives a better idea of the Silence of the Lambs comparison: “When an adrenaline junkie sets out to conquer a menacing river, she discovers that nature isn’t the only thing out for blood.” It’s the type of premise that feels designed to get the adrenaline pumping.

There’s no word at this time as to who Bana...
