Maria Bachmann studied acting in Hamburg and Los Angeles. In 1993 her career got an unusual jump start, when she appeared in a TV commercial that aired for several years in Germany. She had come up with the concept and had written the lines for the commercial herself and suddenly everyone in the street recognized her face. After that she landed a leading role in one of Germany's first sitcoms called Die Viersteins. In it she got the chance to prove her comedic talent. In the well-reviewed TV series Adelheid und ihre Mörder she had a recurring part as the constantly Hessian-babbling fiancee of one of the lead characters. She advanced to become an audience's favorite after she had portrayed the leading character of a strong-willed chief medical doctor in the SAT 1 TV series Sommer und Bolten. In countless leading roles she worked with well-known directors like Thomas Berger, Johannes Fabrick, Peter Gersina, Carlo Rola, Julian Pölsler, Stefan Rick, Tim Trageser, Dieter Wedel, and Ute Wieland.
