Exclusive: Former Anton exec John Zois (The Night House) and current north.five.six. CEO Warren Goz (The Marksman) have launched Parallel 42 Entertainment, an LA-based film and TV development and production company that will focus on commercially driven projects across the action, thriller, sci-fi, and horror genres.
Zois, who spent the last six years helping build UK-based financier and production company Anton, will oversee the creative and operational aspects of the new indie. Parallel 42’s film slate will include mix of features and series—ranging from low-budget horror to large-scale commercial action—developed for studios, streamers, independent partners and cable.
As CEO, Goz will bring his background in production, financing, and sales to help guide and support the company’s projects.
The company is currently developing projects with filmmakers including Brad Anderson, the Dowdle Brothers Michaël R. Roskam, Nimród Antal, Jason Winer (Brother From Another Mother), and Rob Lorenz (In The Land of Saints & Sinners).
The firm will look to work with a range of sales partners on its projects but will also likely have a strong connection to north.five.six. given Goz’s ongoing role there.
Zois, who also has worked at Global Road and Im Global, most recently produced the upcoming sequel Greenland: Migration, starring Gerard Butler and set for release by Lionsgate later this year; and the upcoming Amazon UK original series The Girlfriend, starring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.
Goz, with north.five.six., has recently worked on movies By Any Means starring Mark Wahlberg, Regretting You, the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel starring Dave Franco and acquired by Paramount, and Bartali, starring Miles Teller. Previously, he served as CEO of Sculptor Media, where he produced and developed various features including the 2023 Cannes entry Asphalt City.
“I am thrilled to be working with John and to build Parallel 42,” said CEO Warren Goz. “We are dedicated to making this company an exciting home for creatives to express their visions. With John’s superb taste, and creative production experience across all genres and levels of project, we are confident that we can achieve this.”
“There’s a massive opportunity right now to build a company that is nimble, creative-led, and commercially ambitious,” added Zois. “Parallel 42 will be a place where filmmakers can take big swings with real support behind them every step of the process—telling stories that connect and stay with you, whether they unfold over two hours or across an entire season.”...

It looks like the Night of the Living Dead reboot is running rather than shambling along, as the script for the second redo of George A. Romero’s seminal zombie horror movie is almost complete. The new movie, which will be a reboot sequel – which would make it Dawn of the Dead? – was originally set in 2022 when MGM acquired the rights and enlisted director Nikyatu Jusu and writer Latoya Morgan, who has previously had plenty of undead experience after working as a producer and writer for The Walking Dead.
Although there has been little said about the new movie since the initial announcement, in a new interview with ScreenRant, Morgan provided an update while promoting her new series, Duster, which she co-created. From her comments, it appears that things are actually much further along than many would have suspected. She said:

When Halle Berry made her big-screen debut as the crack-addicted Vivian in the most harrowing section of Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever," she put the entire world on notice that she was going to be an actor first and a movie star second. Obviously, she would quickly learn early in her career to play the Hollywood game and accept thinly-written roles that asked her to do little more than look like one of the most breathtakingly beautiful people on the planet, but she never went more than a year or two without challenging herself. This was particularly difficult to do, given the dearth of complex roles being written for Black women at the time.
Berry was 10 years into her film acting career when she landed the role that would change everything for her. As Leticia Musgrove in Marc Forster's bleak 2001 drama "Monster's Ball," she summoned up a fierce symphony of heartbreak,...

Hulu subscribers are enjoying a lot of R-rated content! Per Flix Patrol, the first three John Wick movies from the Keanu Reeves-led action franchise are on the top 10 charts, however, there’s one film that has left the fan-favorite franchise behind, as it ascended to the top of the list earlier this week. Joel Kinnaman starring The Silent Hour hit #1 on the charts on Monday. The feature has recently been dethroned, but it managed to linger in the top five for most of the week — an impressive feat on a chart dominated by John Wick and The Twilight Saga. Directed by Brad Anderson, The Silent Hour has a 68% score on Rotten Tomatoes and overall has enchanted viewers with its cool action sequences and a thrilling puzzle-like plot.

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman's The Silent Hour is doing very well on Hulu. The 2024 crime thriller was very recently atop the streamer's Top 10 most-watched movie chart.
Per FlixPatrol, The Silent Hour is currently second, dethroned on January 16 by Simone Stock's The Girl Locked Upstairs: The Tanya Kach Story. Kinnaman's movie has managed to hold off competition from the Twilight franchise, which rounds out the top 5 with three of its films; the original Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The 2022 psychological horror survival film Fall is in the sixth spot, followed by the first three film entries from Keanu Reeves' popular action franchise John Wick. The fifth and final Twilight installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, closes out the Top 10.

Joel Kinnaman’s 2024 action crime thriller The Silent Hour has made its way onto Hulu, bringing the film to a new audience after its low-key and divisive limited theatrical and VOD release back in October last year. While the film may have received mixed reviews on its initial release, landing on a new streaming platform is certainly a way of building a new audience for any movie, and Kinnaman’s film falls into that ever-popular “action” category that everyone loves to pass the time with.
The film is directed by Brad Anderson, who is probably best known for helming Christian Bale’s The Machinist, and finds Kinnaman being joined by Sandra Mae Frank, Mekhi Phifer, Mark Strong, and Michael Eklund among others for a movie that may not hit exactly the right notes, but does just enough to please the majority of thrill-seekers. “If you’re a fan of intense thrillers, The Silent Hour is a must-watch. Directed by Brad Anderson and released in 2024, this film brings a whole new level of suspense. It stars Joel Kinnaman as Frank Shaw, a hearing-impaired cop who finds himself in a sticky situation. Alongside him is Ava, played by Sandra Mae Frank, a witness to a murder. The twist? Both of them are trapped in a building while a group of armed men is hot on their trail, determined to make sure they don’t make it out alive.
With Mark Strong as the ominous Slater and Mekhi Phifer adding some extra edge as Lynch, this film keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you’ve already seen it, you’ll know just how thrilling it gets. And for those who haven’t, you’re in luck – The Silent Hour is now available to stream online.

Few characters in superhero comic books are as mysterious as the Joker. Since his very first appearance, his origin has intentionally been kept a secret and vague. A few creators have played with this mystery, and in 2024 one major unresolved mystery has finally been folded into continuity. While Geoff Johns tried to explain the discrepancies in the Joker's backstory, Chip Zdarsky was the one who found a way to make it canon.
What has fueled so much confusion about the Joker is that he never seems to be the same. One moment he's a brutal serial killer, and the next moment he's a harmless prankster. The Joker continually seemed to shift his personality, which led certain people to question if the Joker was even the same person each time, but readers finally got an answer in Batman: The Joker Year One by Zdarsky and Giuseppe Camuncoli, a story continued in...

While Superman has been fighting against Doomsday for decades, DC has definitely noticed the monster's popularity and has created a number of different variants, usually in a different form each time. When a character proves popular, it's not uncommon for dozens of different versions to show up after a while. There are almost as many Batman variants as there are Batman comics, and the same can be said for Doomsday.
Doomsday is one of the most powerful villains that Superman has ever fought, and yet the version that Superman is most often seen fighting isn't even the strongest version of Doomsday. Thanks to the Multiverse, there's an entire host of Doomsdays, some weaker than the main variant, and some are far stronger than the main variant could ever hope to become. No matter what universe Doomsday is in, he's always terrifying, andhis many different variants prove that Superman and his...

Following the release of James Gunn’s Superman trailer, fans have become obsessed with how David Corenswet’s titular character is set to be a comic-accurate version. Unlike the gritty portrayal of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, DC fans are losing their minds over Corenswet’s righteous and mighty superhero. So much so that fans even expressed their desire to see the likeness of Superman from Doomsday Clock in Corenswet’s version.

Given how Superman defeated Dr. Manhattan in the events of Doomsday Clock, with his kindness and humility rather than using his powers, DC fans are hoping for James Gunn’s Superman to feature similar qualities in David Corenswet’s version. Hoping for Kal-El to once again return to his era of kindness and principle over sheer physical power, fans want Corenswet’s Superman to exhibit similar characteristics.

Among the many roles in his career one of the most infamous for Christian Bale is The Machinist, thanks to the extraordinary amount of weight he lost to play Trevor. Bale's breakout performance was American Psycho, which cemented him as a name to watch out for in Hollywood. Bale was so committed to the role of Patrick Bateman that when Leonardo DiCaprio briefly replaced him, he turned down other work, certain DiCaprio would drop out, and he'd be asked back.
Christian Bale was being heavily touted as either the new James Bond or Batman during this era, but after a run of movies he felt personally dissatisfied with, he took some time out before returning with the 2004 thriller The Machinist — and images of Christian Bale in the movie almost defy belief. Superman has a reputation for being unbelievably nice and understanding, but he sometimes has to flex his muscles, proving that he's far more badass than anyone gives him credit for. With his incredible powers, Superman often goes out of his way to present himself as a lot meeker than he really is. These moments demonstrate that while Superman doesn't want to flaunt how powerful he is when he lets loose, there's simply no one cooler than him.
When it comes to superheroes who are undeniably cool, most fans tend to point towards Batman. After all, he's cloaked in all black, appears from the shadows, and brutally takes down criminals. Even when Batman and Superman team up, most still seem to think that Batman is the cooler of the two - usually because Superman holds back his true power. Everyone always calls Superman a boy scout and teases him about how gentle he can be,...

When the "28 Years Later" trailer raced online earlier this week, viewers were eager to see how all of the film's stars figured into Danny Boyle's first full-on horror film since the original "28 Days Later." While they got a pretty good look at Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, there was one notable omission. Where the heck was 2024 Best Actor Oscar-winner and returning "28 Days Later" star Cillian Murphy?
It didn't take long for people to begin theorizing that he was, indeed, in the trailer, just not in a role that was at all expected.
As /Film reported on Tuesday, a number of hard-core fans believed Murphy briefly appeared at the one minute, 48 second mark of the trailer as a desiccated zombie. In their defense, this might explain why Murphy's name is nowhere to be seen on the film's official poster. But there were also numerous arguments to the contrary,...

Our heroes have an unexpected advantage over their murderous pursuers in The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s shadowy crime drama
This crime thriller unfolds mostly in a nearly empty apartment building supposedly in Boston, Massachusetts, although the end credits reveal it was actually shot on location in Malta. But that’s fine, because the whole exercise feels weirdly untethered to any specific locale other than the rooms through which the main characters scuttle, trying to avoid getting killed by armed men – who turn out to be cops, just like the male protagonist, Frank Shaw (Joel Kinnaman). The atmosphere gets a further dose of defamiliarisation thanks to the fact that Frank and his fellow victim, Ava (Sandra Mae Frank), are both deaf, a quality that makes them vulnerable but also gives them the advantage of being able to communicate silently through American Sign Language while evading their pursuers.

When Ava, a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, finds herself targeted, Shaw must protect her while contending with his own hearing impairment. Trapped in an isolated apartment block, the duo must rely on each other’s unique strengths to outsmart the relentless criminals hunting them.

One of the bedrock notions of Batman's traditional origins story is the disposition of Gotham City's organized crime syndicates in the first years of his operation. As he successfully shuts down various traditional mobsters, his efforts give rise to the more outlandish villains of his rogues' gallery. With the Carmine Falcones and Sal Maronis behind bars, Two-Face, The Joker and the rest of Gotham's classic super-baddies rise to fill the vacuum. The prospect has fueled several classic storylines from the comics, as well as multiple live-action adaptations. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight hinges on that transition, as does the Gotham TV series. Tim Burton's groundbreaking Batman takes the idea literally, with high-ranking mob lieutenant Jack Napier transformed into The Joker, and wiping out his former associates.

Like a veteran high roller playing the odds, indie film execs crowding the new Vegas venue at the Palms Casino for this year’s American Film Market are hedging their bets. The independent film business, a risky proposal at the best of times, has becoming increasingly precarious with theatrical releases an all-or-nothing proposal — the jackpot of Longlegs versus the bust of Borderlands and Megalopolis — and buyers hesitant to place their chips on anything that doesn’t look like a sure thing.
For indie movies at the AFM, that means a doubling down on genre films, particularly horror and action, and a move away from drama and comedy titles, which are considered riskier bets internationally.
“People are really focused on genre, even some of the smaller international sales companies are boosting their genre slates,” notes one U.S. seller. “Success has become impossible to predict and everyone is looking for anything that has a built-in audience.

Sam Raimis recent release, Dont Move, makes its steady way toward becoming one of the best survival thrillers in recent memory. The movie adds a twist to the cat-and-mouse chase, taking its horror to unexplored heights. Although the presence of a serial killer is often enough to send chills down the spine of most audiences, Dont Moves failing female body verges into true nightmare territory. Having been injected with a paralytic, the final girl becomes doomed to the will of her attacker.
For those who enjoyed watching Iris's blood-curdling efforts to escape her perpetrator, it's worth noting that several other films also offer adrenaline-pumping narratives with a twist. Leading the Dont Moves cast, actress Kelsey Asbille elevates a suicidal woman into a female rage icon, able to convey so much with the littlest breath. Building toward Dont Moves ending, Iris inner force proves a resourceful adversary against an otherwise experienced killer.

The seventh and final installment of the late George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead franchise is currently in the works, and we've just learned of some new cast additions to this upcoming zombie film.

Jovovich is best known for starring in the leading role of Alice in the action-horror film franchise Resident Evil. Her most recent role was playing Tess in the sci-fi thriller Breathe. If we’re putting Alfred Hitchcock, who was a genius in every aspect and one of the best and most important filmmakers of all time, aside, the first major horror director who influenced the genre in a major way was the legendary George A. Romero, whose 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead is still considered to be a classic of cinema in general.
This low-budget indie horror became exceptionally influential, with many later horror directors, such as John Carpenter or Wes Craven, being influenced by Romero and his work. And while the legendary director passed away in 2017 after battling cancer, it seems that he is coming back from the grave – which is most fitting, seeing how his specialty was zombie films – to give us one last movie.

Back in 2021, we got word that Twilight of the Dead was officially in the works with Brad Anderson set to direct, and the movie has now cast its leads.

After leading a series of films for the Resident Evil franchise, Milla Jovovich will be revisiting the world of zombie horror. She's one of two casting additions revealed for Twilight of the Dead, a new film set in George A. Romero's Living Dead franchise.
Per Deadline, Jovovich and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) have officially joined the cast of Twilight of the Dead. The film is considered to be the "seventh and final installment" of Romero's movie series that began with 1969's Night of the Living Dead. Romero's estate has partnered up with Roundtable to finance the project, which will be presented at the American Film Market by Fortitude International this month. Production is planned to begin in March 2025.
