Carmen Amaya
Carmen Amaya, one of Spain's most revered flamenco dancers and singers, made her flamenco debut in 1919--at the age of 6! She took Spain by storm, and the next year had a triumphant engagement in Paris. In 1941 she performed in the US, at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, to great acclaim, and was invited to perform at the White House by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Although she appeared in a few films, her forte was personal appearances. She made her last film in 1963, the year she died.
