A Taylor Sheridanaction movie called F.A.S.T. is finally moving forward after years of delays, and a 1923 star is already attached. Sheridan is best known as the creator of the Yellowstone universe of shows at Paramount. The main series and its spinoffs, which include 1883 and 1923, have all been major hits for the network, and Sheridan has used the cachet from that property to make other shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lioness, which have all also been successful in terms of viewership.
THR reports that Sheridan is returning to movies, with F.A.S.T. having now landed at Warner Bros. The film is on the fast track, with a theatrical release date already set for April 23, 2027. Brandon Sklenar, who stars as Spencer Dutton on 1923 has been tapped to play the lead, with frequent 1923 director Ben Richardson set to direct in his feature film debut. “F.A.S.T.” follows a former special forces commando who is tapped by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers.
Sheridan has an overall deal with Paramount, but Warner Bros. commissioned the script prior to that deal beginning, and Paramount ultimately granted Sheridan’s request to make the film, albeit within Paramount’s exclusive window. Taylor Sheridan, the creative mastermind behind the Yellowstone television franchise, is headed back to the big screen. After writing and producing a number of TV shows, Sheridan will bring his unique sensibilities to an upcoming action thriller that will remind fans that the Oscar-nominated filmmaker once wrote Sicario.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan has closed a deal to write and produce F.A.S.T. for Warner Bros., an action thriller starring 1923 actor Brandon Sklenar and directed by Ben Richardson (Beasts of the Southern Wild). The film is set to release in theaters on Apr. 23, 2027. It's been a long time coming for the project, which was first written by Sheridan in the 2010s. He was originally looking to direct it with Chris Pratt as the lead, but it then eventually recruited The Accountant director Gavin O'Connor at the helm. However, the project continued to gestate and move around studios before landing back at Warner Bros.

Here’s a wonderful Mother’s Day story as Warner Bros./Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie flies past $900M: The entire movie started with a mother’s love for her son, noticing his passion for the create-your-own-world game.
Around 2011, former Miramax and Lorne Michaels Entertainment executive Jill Messick was in between producing gigs, and like many parents with millennial young children, recognized her 11-year old son Jackson’s obsession with the pixelated brick-building universe.
Jill Messick
Seeing Jackson’s affinity for the game, Messick was promptly moved to cold-call Stockholm, Sweden-based Mojang Studios to inquire about the movie rights. She then cobbled together frequent flyer miles to fly over and pitch the game’s architect and company founder Markus Persson.

On Saturday, Warner Bros.’ “Sinners” reached a box office milestone that no original film has achieved in eight years: $200 million in the U.S. and Canada.
Driven by critical and audience acclaim that has made it a must-see for millions of Americans, Ryan Coogler’s musical vampire horror hit is the highest domestic grossing original movie since the Pixar movie “Coco,” which grossed $210 million during its Thanksgiving run in 2017.
“Sinners” has passed that total before inflation adjustment with an estimated domestic total of $216 million after four weekends in theaters. The loss of Imax screens to Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts*” has done little to slow its momentum, enjoying a fourth weekend total of $23 million that alone is higher than the opening weekend of any horror film since Paramount’s “Smile 2” last October.
Sporting a reported $90 million budget and a rare agreement to return rights to the film to Coogler in 25 years,...

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts leads the domestic box office for a second weekend. The film brought in an estimated $9 million on Friday, and current projections place its weekend total above $130 million in North America.
The Friday-to-Friday decline stands near 53%. Among 36 MCU releases, that rate ranks among the ten lowest second-weekend drops. This result places Thunderbolts between Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals in terms of eight-day domestic earnings. The film remains available in IMAX and premium formats, which continue to drive ticket sales.
The budget for Thunderbolts is estimated at $180 million, with promotional expenses nearing $100 million. It currently faces no new wide-release competition until next week, when the horror sequel Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to open.
Internationally, the Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan-led ensemble is expected to surpass $200 million by Sunday. The film’s hold is tracking better than that of Captain America: Brave New World,...

The leaders of the major Hollywood studios and streaming companies gathered on Zoom on Friday for a special meeting with Motion Picture Association chief Charles Rivkin to strategize about how to address President Trump’s threatened film tariffs.
The goal was to find a delicate way to educate the White House on the complexities of the film business, as well as the difficulty of applying a tariff on a product that is not a traditional good in the sense of a car or a hammer. Moreover, many films are shot in multiple foreign locations both because a story calls for a certain setting, and because of the costs. Post-production work on visual effects and editing also can take place in different countries to take advantage of subsidies.

James Gunn's Supermanis releasing a trailer soon, but fans can wet their appetites a little bit as a new preview of the Dcu film has been released. Along with the titular superhero, the film features a bevy of DC characters, but none have been as prominent in the marketing thus far as Krypto. He seems to be a package deal with Superman, and despite not being a very good boy, audiences will likely fall in love with the character when the film hits theaters this summer.

It features David Corenswet as the Man of Steel in what seems to be a tense conversation with his canine sidekick, Krypto, in the Fortress of Solitude. Last March, we got word that a new The Lord of the Rings movie titled The Hunt for Gollum was set to hit theaters in 2026, with Andy Serkis on board to direct and reprise the title role of Sméagol after first bringing the iconic character to life in Peter Jackson's acclaimed trilogy.
The project was later hit with a significant delay (that original date always seemed like a long shot), and Warner Bros. has now announced that the next live-action Lotr film will be with us on December 17, 2027.
Jackson and his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are set to return as producers, and “will be involved every step of the way,” according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Marvel Studios has gotten the 2025 summer box office off to a good start with a $31.5 million opening day for “Thunderbolts*,” putting the film on course for a $75 million opening weekend from 4,300 locations.
While short of the $89 million 3-day opening of “Captain America: Brave New World,” this result is in line with pre-release projections for “Thunderbolts*.” More importantly, “Thunderbolts*” is earning considerably better audience reception than “Brave New World,” including an A- on CinemaScore compared to a B- for the most recent MCU installment.
Other reception scores include a 4.5/5 from general audiences on PostTrak, and Rotten Tomatoes scores of 88% critics and 95% audience. With the inconsistency in quality since “Avengers: Endgame,” Marvel has had to follow the same rules as the rest of Hollywood, living and dying by word-of-mouth. With such high marks across the board, “Thunderbolts*” now has a chance to leg out and possibly convince some lapsed fans to give it a try.

Shōgun is readying its comeback.
On Thursday, FX, Hulu, and Disney+ revealed the second season of the Emmy Award-winning series will begin production in January 2026.
Original showrunners and creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks will return for Season 2. According to a press release, the duo recently completed a writers’ room to develop original story ideas for the new batch of episodes. The first season was based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel of the same name and told the contained story of the source book.
Set in feudal Japan, Season 1 of Shōgun focused primarily on the relationship between Japanese Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Emmy winner Hiroyuki Sanada) and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), a shipwrecked English sailor who becomes Toranaga’s unwitting ally. The first season ended with Toranaga victorious in his struggle against a conspiratorial enemy and Blackthorne resigned to his new life in Japan. The finale included an ambiguous sequence...

“Shōgun” is officially coming back for Season 2 at FX, with the second season of the hit historical drama set to begin production in January 2026 in Vancouver.
Season 1 stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will return in the roles of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne, respectively. Sanada, who was a producer on Season 1 in addition to starring, has been elevated to executive producer. Jarvis will now be a co-executive producer on the series.
The second season will take place 10 years after the events of the first.
“Shōgun” Season 1 was based on the novel of the same name by James Clavell, which was itself loosely based on real events in Japanese history. The show debuted to near universal acclaim in February 2024.
Then in May, it was reported that a second season was being eyed by FX following the success of Season 1. Sources said that FX was mulling entering the show into...

The pieces are coming into place on the upcoming second season of FX’s Emmy-winning drama series Shōgun, which will begin filming in January. Cosmo Jarvis has closed a deal to reprise his role as English pilot John Blackthorne, joining Hiroyuki Sanada, whose pact last May to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga paved the way to Shogun‘s tentative renewal for a second and likely third season after being originally conceived as a limited series. Sanada, a producer on the original installment, has been upped to executive producer for Season 2; Jarvis is joining the series’ producing ranks as co-executive producer.
FX has revealed more details about the premise of the second season. It “will be “a wholly original new chapter to the first season,” which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel, the network said.

FX is plotting its return to feudal Japan, setting a production start date for season two of its Emmy-winning drama Shogun.
Season two of the series — which set a record at last year’s Emmys with 18 wins — is set to begin production in Vancouver in January 2026. The announcement serves as official confirmation that a second season will indeed happen (though it was never really in doubt) after FX announced it was developing two additional installments in May 2024.
Co-creators and showrunners Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks recently wrapped a writers room for the coming season, which will jump off from the James Clavell novel that formed the source material for season one.
With the conclusion of the writers room, FX has also released the first sketch of what Shogun season two will look like. Per FX, the show will pick up “10 years after the events of the first season and continue...

The weekend box office is on fire, with ticket sales up more than 120 percent over the same frame last year.
The blaze is led by Warner Bros.’ Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. Heading into its sophomore outing, the film was expected to compete with Ben Affleck-starrer The Accountant 2 for the top spot with anywhere from $20 million to $25 million.
But the supernatural period vampire pic continues to defy all the odds and easily stayed No. 1 domestically with a phenomenal $45.7 million to boast one of the smallest drops in history for a movie playing outside of the year-end holidays, or 5 percent off from its $48 million opening weekend, according to weekend actuals. (That’s ahead of Sunday’s estimate of $45 million, a 6 percent decline).
Put another way, Sinners boasts the smallest second-weekend decline for any film opening north of $40 million since 2009’s Avatar and the smallest...

On this week’s Screen Talk, co-hosts Anne Thompson and Ryan Lattanzio dig into Ryan Coogler’s $90-million period vampire musical “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan as twins Smoke and Stack, as well as the boffo box office and the controversial deal.
Warners opened the movie to a bigger-than-expected $48 million Easter weekend, and a weak $15 million overseas. The only other horror film to ever earn an A CinemaScore was James Cameron’s sequel “Aliens” in 1986. It’s rare and bodes well for a broader audience. Nearly half of the opening-day audience was Black, which increased to 38 percent by the weekend’s end.
Warners has bragging rights over this one and, with “A Minecraft Movie,” enjoyed two movies grossing over $40 million. It spells some relief for embattled studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. The movie is original and unusual, and thoughtful and entertaining enough to warrant success. It’s...

Superman is widely expected to become one of the biggest movies of the year when it flies into theaters this summer. However, a recent lawsuit put the film's release in select countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada, into question. Those are major markets where having a theatrcial run is vital to the Dcu project's box office prospects. Fortunately for Warner Bros., a judge has ruled in their favor and sealed the fate of James Gunn's DC superhero film.
As reported by Bloomberg, a federal judge has dismissed the case between Warner Bros. and Warren Peary, the nephew of Superman co-creator Joseph Shuster. The estate of the late Schuster alleged that the studio did not have the rights to release the film in select territories due to an apparent lack of foreign copyrights to the original comic book storyline. With the ruling, Superman will be able to be released...

Hot Toys has shared a first look at its take on David Corenswet's Man of Steel from Superman. While the Hong Kong-based company stopped short of a full reveal, we do get a detailed look at the texture of the hero's suit and that eye-catching belt.
This design, while not favoured by some fans, is embracing the comic books in a big way. It's also far more colourful than what Henry Cavill's Kal-El donned in Dceu movies like Justice League and Black Adam.
Hot Toys will likely reveal this 1/6th-scale action figure in all its glory a couple of months from now. It's unclear whether other characters from the movie will be produced, though we'd imagine the "Justice Gang," Ultraman, and Lex Luthor are all strong possibilities.
The buzz surrounding Superman is positive, with Warner Bros. Pictures co-ceo Michael De Luca recently hailing it as a "five-star movie.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners brought a much-needed win for Warner Bros. movie chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy. After a string of disasters, including Joker 2 last year, De Luca and Abdy were reportedly in a bad position at WB. However, A Minecraft Movie and Coogler’s period vampire thriller were enough to save their jobs and secure their immediate future at the company.
For Coogler’s film, De Luca and Abdy beat Sony and Universal, who were engaged in a bidding war for the distribution rights. The Black Panther director chose WB after the execs agreed to a deal that caused a bit of a ruckus in the press. According to the deal, WB would revert the rights of the film back to Coogler after 25 years.
De Luca and Abdy don’t regret their decision. They were proud to give Coogler what he wanted. Interestingly, they also hinted...

How quickly the fortunes of a Hollywood studio head can change.
Just weeks after the word around town was that their jobs were in jeopardy, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have passed a key test of their film strategy and will likely live to fight another day thanks to the critical and commercial success of Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” and the birth of a new franchise with Jared Hess’ “A Minecraft Movie,” according to multiple insiders who spoke with TheWrap.
Coogler’s vampire horror film’s $48 million domestic opening weekend and extremely rare A CinemaScore — the first for a horror film in 39 years — has strengthened the pair’s position following earlier misfires like Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie à Deux” and Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17.”
Even more impressive: Warner Bros. achieved what no studio has accomplished since 2009, with two films – “Sinners” and...

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has not only glorified the director but also redeemed some big names in the industry. Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warner Bros.’ movie chiefs, were facing a Hollywood firing squad—anonymous leaks, pundit countdowns, and whispers of replacements.
Just weeks ago, their jobs hung by a thread after flops like Joker 2. Yet, with Sinners grossing $48 million and A Minecraft Movie hitting $700 million globally, they have staged a comeback that’s the talk of Tinseltown. Greenlighting Coogler’s Sinners would have cost them their designations, but they are proud they made the right decision.

For weeks, it wasn’t a matter of if Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were getting fired — it was when. The Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chairmen and co-CEOs had been put on executive death watch, the Hollywood equivalent of dead men walking. Anonymous quotes were flying. Pundits were counting down. Their replacements were being openly speculated about — reportedly even interviewed. And then came … a vampire.
The box office success of Sinners — Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending bloodsucker epic — didn’t just deliver a much-needed win for original filmmaking. It may have saved the jobs of the veteran execs who greenlit it. Coming on the heels of A Minecraft Movie’s record-breaking launch, Sinners pulled in $48 million domestically in its opening weekend and won over both critics and audiences, offering what looks a lot like a last-minute reprieve for the embattled duo.

For a second time this month, Warner Bros turned around its box office fortunes at the last minute before a movie’s opening with Sinners overperforming to $48 million after what appeared to be a mid-$30M projection by some tracking services earlier in the month.
The first trailer for Sinners dropped in September and didn’t really make a splash, hence the worrisome buzz that floated around the movie for quite some time as one of the risky, $100M auteur feature productions (net $90M+ actually) under the Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy administration.
With its Friday previews of $4.7M indicating to some a high-$30M projection, how did Sinners land in the high $40Ms? Essentially, this happens when the movie itself becomes the most powerful marketing tool, evident in Sinners’ 98% certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes reviews, rare A CinemaScore for a horror film and 84% definite recommend on PostTrak. After industry estimates had the third weekend of “A Minecraft Movie” topping the critically acclaimed “Sinners” at the Easter box office on Saturday morning, the two Warner Bros. films have swapped places atop the box office charts as Ryan Coogler’s horror film is now estimated for a $45.6 million opening weekend.
Should this result hold, “Sinners” will pass the $44.3 million opening of Jordan Peele’s 2022 film “Nope” for the highest opening of an original film since the pandemic. Not only is that highly likely, it wouldn’t be surprising if the final weekend total for “Sinners” is higher than this current estimate given that it is enjoying some of the most spectacular critical and audience buzz given to any film in recent memory.
It starts with a straight A from opening night audiences on CinemaScore, the first given to a horror film since James Cameron’s “Aliens” in 1986. It then...

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, more than found redemption at the Easter weekend box office. Ditto for Warner Bros.
In a surprise upset, the movie beat fellow Warners blockbuster A Minecraft Movie and topped the chart with an estimated $45.6 million from 3,308 theaters, including Imax screens, well ahead of an expected $40 million. Based on Friday’s gross of $19.2 million, Sinners looked to open to the latter figure, but a spike in walk-up Saturday business changed the landscape.
Sinners achieved its victory after earning near-perfect reviews and stellar audience scores. Overseas, it started off with $15.4 million from select markets, for a global total of $61 million.
Not that Minecraft, now in its third weekend, is any slouch as it jumped the $700 million mark globally. Based on early weekend grosses, it appeared the record-breaking video game adaptation would stay No. 1 with $45 million. Instead, it’s on course to take in $41.3 million...

Ryan Googler’s critically acclaimed Sinners starring Michael B. Warner Bros. will collect more eggs than any other studio at the Easter weekend box office, between smash sensation A Minecraft Movie and Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed original film Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan.
The big question: Which film will win the race? Warners, trying to manage expectations, is targeting an opening in the $35 million to $40 million range for Sinners. There’s reason to be circumspect, considering the film is an R-rated, period supernatural vampire pic. Tracking services are more bullish in suggesting $40 million to $45 million, while rival studios think Sinners’ launch could end up north of $50 million.

Sam Neill of the Jurassic Park franchise is the latest addition to the cast of the new theatrical Monsterverse film from Legendary.
No word on the role he’ll tackle. Neill joins a cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Dan Stevens, who reprises his role as veterinarian Trapper Beasley from last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the highest-grossing installment in the franchise.
The film is said to place several new human characters alongside Titans Godzilla and Kong, as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat. Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor are breaking out the big guns for their new character posters for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. The comedic crime thriller doesn’t infiltrate theaters until September 26, but Warner Bros. Pictures wants PTA fans to ride the hype train for as long as possible.
According to The Film Stage, One Battle After Another is a retelling of Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland,” set in California during the fallout of President Ronald Reagan’s re-election and the political unrest that followed.

That was Jack Black’s instruction to moviegoers attending a screening of A Minecraft Movie over the April 11-13 weekend at AMC Century City in L.A. following days of headlines about young moviegoers engaging in rowdy behavior and hurling handfuls of popcorn into the crowd when Black’s character exclaims, “chicken jockey!”
As Black entered the auditorium unannounced, he initially disguised his voice when he intoning: “For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popcorn.” When he began speaking in his own voice and was recognized, the crowd went nuts as he waved his main prop from the movie, an ax. “Look what I brought,” he said, eliciting hoots and hollers.
Throughout the movie’s opening weekend a week earlier, viral videos captured audiences going wild, throwing food and drinks, and trashing auditoriums. In one video, somebody was even kicked out...

Warner Bros. is having quite a solid month at the box office with “A Minecraft Movie” nabbing another great weekend at the global box office, earning $550.5 million over two weekends, and it sounds like the studio is striking while the iron is hot on a follow-up.
Despite insider chatter that Warner Bros. studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are on the outs and looking to be replaced by David Zazlav, the duo spoke with Deadline and revealed that they are in early discussions to move forward with sequels to Tim Burton‘s paranormal comedy “Beetlejuice Beetljuice”, and the aforementioned “A Minecraft Movie” from filmmaker Jared Hess.

Warners Bros. and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour directorSam Wrench are set to remake The Bodyguard, one of the most popular romance thrillers of the 90s. In addition, Jonathan Abrams has been tapped to write the script; he debuted as a feature screenwriter on the classic Western star Clint Eastwood's courtroom drama, Juror #2. No further news of casting decisions has been shared, but there's a long list of multi-talented singers/actresses who could probably be up for the job to play Whitney Houston's iconic role. Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy shared the news during an interview with Deadline.
Wrench's familiarity with working on musical productions could be a massive win for the remake. The director helmed Laufey's A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl and A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, which debuted on Netflix in 2024 with appearances from Chappell Roan, Tyla,...

It turns out that the usual March box office boom was deferred this year to April, as Warner Bros./Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” has proven to be more than a one weekend wonder with a strong $82 million second weekend, dropping 50% from its $163 million opening.
This second weekend total is in the range of what independent trackers had expected the opening of “Minecraft” to be. Instead, the video game film is set for a 10-day domestic total of $270 million and a global total of around $500 million.
After the poor performances of “Companion” and “Mickey 17” earlier this year, “Minecraft” gives Warner Bros. a much needed hit ahead of the release of its biggest tentpole, “Superman,” this July. It also sets “Minecraft” up for an intriguing No. 1 battle next weekend against another Warner title, Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed horror film “Sinners,” which is the first in a series of high-budget...

Warner Bros. has set director Sam Wrench to lead a new version of The Bodyguard, the 1992 romantic thriller that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Wrench, known for directing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, will helm the studio’s long-developing remake, which has cycled through various iterations since it was first proposed over a decade ago.
Jonathan Abrams has been brought on to write the screenplay. Abrams made his feature writing debut with Juror #2, the Clint Eastwood courtroom drama completed in 2023. A previous version of The Bodyguard remake script was written by Matthew Lopez, though the current iteration will reflect Abrams’ take on the material. Casting for the project has not yet been announced.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice was a big success for Warner Bros., grossing over $451 million worldwide. I’m pretty sure you know what that number means — sequel. While speaking with Deadline, Warner Bros. CEO’s Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy revealed that Beetlejuice 3 is in the works.
However, it’s not quite official just yet. “Imminently,” De Luca said. “The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.“
During the London premiere of Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton didn’t seem optimistic about the chances of another sequel due to the amount of time it took to get the first sequel off the ground. “Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100,” Burton said. “So maybe. I doubt it.” It seems that things are moving a little bit faster this time around.

The DC Extended Universe wasn't exactly a success, though it would be wrong to say that it didn't deliver some good stories and box office hits. Still, something needed to change, and that's why DC Studios was formed at the start of 2023.
Over the past two years, we've seen the Dcu slowly start to take shape. Superman will kick things off properly this summer after Creature Commandos gave us a taste of what's to come, and beyond that, the slate is - mostly - shaping up to be in equal parts intriguing and exciting.
However, when DC Studios decided to take these characters back to the drawing board, there were some casualties. James Gunn has enlisted many of his friends to reprise their respective DC roles, but with a fresh start on the horizon, many movies and ideas were scrapped.
