While we clearly don’t need any more reasons for the U.S. to be feuding with foreign countries right now, two Monty Python fans recently got into a spat on social media over whether or not Americans “get” the Pythons’ humor. This prompted Eric Idle to step in and settle the “silly” argument once and for all.
As Idle pointed out, while Monty Python’s Flying Circus began in the U.K., it’s been consistently popular in the U.S. ever since it began airing on public television in 1975, which also coincided with the release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Idle also explained that Monty Python’s American popularity originated with a PBS station in Dallas. And, as he confirmed to one follower, it was in fact the father of future stars Owen and Luke Wilson who was responsible for making it happen.

Which Actors Nearly Made It To Ocean’s Eleven Crew Opposite Brad Pitt & George Clooney?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Ocean’s Eleven is the kind of film that oozes incredible Vegas heists, slick suits, and a cast so star-studded it practically sparkled off the screen. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and their charming crew made robbing casinos look like a high-fashion runway with a criminal twist. But here’s the twist you didn’t see coming: not everyone was eager to join the crew.
Believe it or not, several big-name stars turned down a seat at Danny Ocean’s table. Whether it was scheduling drama, script doubts, or just missing out on the Vegas glitz, some seriously famous faces passed on a chance to steal cinematic gold. Curious who they were? Let’s just say hindsight might be kicking in harder than a blackjack loss. Grab your chips, we’re dealing out the surprising...

Gene Hackman, nothing less than a titan of the screen, has left us. He was announced dead at the age of 95, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa and one of their dogs, under strange circumstances that are still being investigated. Hackman left the world with a career full of iconic performances, including two Oscar-winning turns in The French Connection and Unforgiven, as well as nominations for Bonnie and Clyde, I Never Sang For My Father, and Mississippi Burning.
This is only scratching the surface of his legacy; mainstream audiences most likely recognize him as Lex Luthor in the 1978 Superman, as the mix of comedy and menace he brought to the role defined one of the most iconic versions of that character. Hackman actually retired from acting in 2004, citing how the intensity of being on set was having effects on his heart condition. Yet one of his final roles in The Royal Tenenbaums,...

Only three years before his retirement, citing health concerns, late actorGene Hackman, who passed away recently, reminded fans of his unmatchable acting potential by stealing the thunder from an ensemble cast featuring Anjelica Houston, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson. In the role of the absentee patriarch Royal O'Reilly Tenenbaum, Hackman brought to the screen both his character's eccentricity and the sincerity that lies at the heart of all emotions evoked by the 2001 Wes Anderson film, The Royal Tenenbaums. While it may be unimaginable now to think of the film without Hackman's portrayal of the callous patriarch, he initially rejected one of his last iconic roles in a career spanning six decades that ended with 2004's Welcome to Mooseport.

It is a testament to the depth and breadth of the career of Gene Hackman that, upon the announcement of his passing at the age of 95, people have come together on social media to praise him, but without a uniform winner among his large filmography. Comic-book fans can continue to marvel at how he set the standard for villainous characters with his take on Lex Luthor in "Superman: The Movie." Fans of modern action movies are no doubt fondly remembering his work in the tense and sweaty thriller "Crimson Tide," among other examples. And the number of dramas he made, introspective or otherwise, are nearly innumerable. You can find so many examples of brilliance in Gene Hackman's list of credits, across so many genres. One of the most common threads throughout his career was his deft ability to create effectively memorable confrontations with his fellow performers, taking what's written on...

The past couple of weeks have seen many casting announcements for Scream 7. At first, they seemed fairly normal, with people like Isabel May and McKenna Grace fulfilling the teen roles. Makes sense, as they always need a new cast of young victims, as Neve Campbell’s Sydney Prescott can only do so much. Then part of the Core Four was announced, with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy-Brown returning as the Meeks’. Very cool considering the Barrera/Ortega films appeared to be getting excised. But that’s when things started to get weird. Despite rumors of his involvement for months, Patrick Dempsey was not cast as Sydney’s husband, instead Joel McHale ended up taking the role. Unexpected but scheduling conflicts happen and they clearly have a movie to make. But that’s when we got some true head-scratchers. Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard were both announced as having roles in the film.

Paired for a job by a shady transport service, their task seems simple: transport Sheridan, a wealthy troubled teen, to rehab. If there's one thing that moviegoers are a sucker for when it comes to their big screen viewings, it's an uplifting underdog tale of perseverance and tenacity. For decades, sports dramas have been the bread-and-butter in Hollywood, as audiences can't help but root for these courageous characters as they face adversity and monumental hurdles while trying to achieve their ambitious goals. Luke Wilson and Greg Kinnear joined forces to star in the emotionally-moving 2024 film You Gotta Believe, which brilliantly depicts the Fort Worth Westside All-Stars' remarkable season that landed them at the 2002 Little League World Series.
You Gotta Believe highlights the tremendous efforts the young team put forth to make it to the annual tournament, doing so to honor the ailing father of one of their players, who was undergoing treatment for his terminal cancer as the Llws played out. Reese Witherspoon’s 2001 Legally Blonde broke more barriers than one. While it started with a classic rom-com girl getting the guy back vibe, it slowly turned into a transformational journey of Witherspoon’s character Elle Woods.

Interestingly, the writers initially had a different ending planned for the movie. While the final version focused on Elle Woods coming into her own, the initial movie wanted to highlight that she did get her boyfriend back.
The test audience, however, wasn’t on board with that. As, according to them, it took away the entire message the movie wanted to showcase. So, the writers came up with the idea to change the narrative to fit the theme better. Hence, the all-time classic was born.

Everybody Loves Raymond is forever. You could turn it on today, watch Ray complain, and it still hits. Timeless. The show dropped on September 13, 1996, and instantly became a classic. For nine years, it had us laughing and crying. With its penetrating humor and relatable chaos, it snagged 15 Emmys before ending in 2005.
The Barone family? Messy, dysfunctional, and always up in each other’s business. That’s why we loved them. Ray dodging his parents, Debra fighting for space, Robert being, well, Robert. It gave us classic moments we’re still quoting.

The Sand Castle, a Lebanese family drama, is currently climbing up the Netflix streaming chart after releasing on the platform earlier this month. The film follows a family stranded on an island, attempting to survive the dangerous landscape and the deterioration of the mind that comes with it. Featuring a talent cast and crew, The Sand Castle quietly made its debut last week, but it has rather quickly swept up audiences with a visually-inspired drama that is as thrilling as it is emotional.
As of this writing, The Sand Castle reached as high as the #2 spot on Netflix's most watched movies during the past few days (via Flix Patrol). It's unclear if it will hold that spot for an extended period of time, or climb even higher, but it seems subscribers are readily flocking to the survival picture. In movies, the underdog’s ultimate triumph serves as an ideal feel-good narrative, and sports dramas have a way of getting to our hearts by making us root for them against all odds. A 2024 sports drama, You Gotta Believe, starring Luke Wilson, fits perfectly into this mold. Despite its divisive reception among critics, the movie has struck a chord with audiences. You Gotta Believe arrived on Netflix in January 2025 and is now sitting pretty at #2 on Netflix’s Top 10 movies list (via Flix Patrol).
You Gotta Believe follows the story of Bobby Ratliff (Wilson), a dedicated assistant coach of the Westside All-Stars, a youth baseball team from Fort Worth, Texas. The team, as you’d expect, isn’t very good at the sport, and it doesn’t help that Ratliff is diagnosed with terminal cancer just as they’re on a path to enter the 2002 Little League World Series. If nothing else, you can at least make the case that Netflix viewers have a certain kind of diverse taste. While the current situation is pretty dire, with Cameron Diaz's first movie in 11 years dominating the Netflix charts despite terrible reviews, last year we saw the director of "Green Room" top the same charts with the excellent action thriller "Rebel Ridge." Likewise, movies such as Kevin Hart's "Lift" enjoy baffling success on the streamer but so too do stellar sci-fi epics directed by Christopher Nolan, such as when "Interstellar" topped the Netflix charts to start 2025.
In all, then, Netflix is an infinitely fascinating yet confounding landscape -- one that's populated by the kind of streaming slop responsible for watering down the entire concept of moviemaking, yet also capable of exposing global audiences to Academy Award nominated films such as the Spanish drama "Society of the Snow." Now, the...

Underdog sports movies have slowly died down after they became such a huge sensation in the early 2000s. The reason, of course, is the narrative structure that said films follow. There’s always the hero’s journey somewhere in there while also being about the characters who shape the story for them. With time, the trope of this underdog became redundant, but few films every now and then were able to reconfigure or at least reaffirm why such stories are always important. They are rousing, relatable and inspiring. They give us hope in times when we find ourselves corned by our big ambitions. Ty Roberts’ “You Gotta Believe” is not one of those movies, though.
I mean, it does have all the usual tropes that you find in such films. It stars Luke Wilson and Greg Kinner as the co-coaches and dads of kids who are part of a little league baseball team.

Following his exit from Yellowstone, Kevin Costner moved on to a different Western project, which premiered in 2024 but is now available on streaming. Costner starred as John Dutton III in the first four and a half seasons of Taylor Sheridan's popular TV show. However, in between parts 1 and 2 of Yellowstone season 5, news broke that the actor was leaving the series. Given that Costner's John was the face of the neo-Western drama, his exit came as a big surprise to many.
Taylor Sheridan's upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs and prequels include 1923 season 2, The Madison, 6666, 1944, and an untitled Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler sequel series.
In the months following the announcement of Costner's Yellowstone exit, more details regarding why he left emerged. However, many were also concerned with how Sheridan would write John out of the series. The Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premiere revealed John's fate, and the show was never the same.

This movie saw the trio of Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore. Murray played Bosley in the film among a supporting cast that included Sam Rockwell, Kelly Lynch, Tim Curry, Matt LeBlanc, Crispin Glover, Luke Wilson, and LL Cool J. The film got a sequel three years later titled Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, which saw these leads reprise their roles.

In recent years, people needed a good reason to go to the theater and spend money and several hours on a film after the rise of the streaming services. 2024 was a guessing game at the box office because many blockbusters failed to bring the numbers they intended, Kevin Costner's Western Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 1 and Furiosa: A Mad Max Story included.
On paper, the two films had what it took to become a success story at the box office. A star-studded cast, a popular pre-existent IP in Furiosa's case, and generous budgets. Following their unfortunate theatrical run, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and Furiosa: A Mad Max Story became successful on Netflix following their release on the platform last week, entering the top 10.

Quick Links The Nuances Kudrow Brought to 'No Good Deed' Will There Be a 'No Good Deed' Season 2?
Lisa Kudrow is one of these national comedic treasures à la Jennifer Coolidge or Maya Rudolph, whose body of work is so undeniable that any new series or film in which she features immediately jumps to the front of your queue. In fact, that's likely what creator Liz Feldman was banking on when she set about casting No Good Deed, her newest stacked Netflix comedy (her last was the critically acclaimed Dead to Me). In addition to Kudrow, other standouts include co-lead Ray Romano and Linda Cardellini as their neighbor, the deliciously devious Margo.
No Good Deed demanded its actors strike a pretty challenging tone, as the series deals with a pair of parents, Lydia and Paul, who are selling their house after their teenage son was murdered in it.
