True Blood vet Joe Manganiello shared a new update about Netflix’s One Piece series, seemingly confirming its early Season 3 renewal. In the upcoming next installment of the hit fantasy adventure series, Manganiello has signed on to portray the live-action version of Mr. 0/Crocodile.
Although Netflix has yet to make an official announcement about One Piece Season 3, it looks like fans we’ll get to see more of Luffy’s fan-favorite Grand Line adventures in live-action. In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Manganiello revealed that the cast and crew of One Piece will soon be coming back to the set for the production of the third season. "We've taken a break between Season 2 and Season 3, so yeah, I'll be heading back later on this year, and we'll be working on the next part of the story. So that's about all I could say," he said. Nowadays, there are plenty of sitcoms on cable and streamers known for pushing the boundaries of comedy. From South Park to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to Big Mouth to The Righteous Gemstones, edgy sitcoms have cemented their own place in the TV landscape with their sometimes salacious, sometimes contentiously pioneering jokes. But in the 20th century, the standards for decency were set on network television. Religious groups, parental organizations and even sitting presidents took issue with TV humor and weighed in on what was or wasn’t suitable for prime time.
Here are five shows that were considered to be very controversial in their time, all for different reasons…
1 All in the Family
In the 1950s and ‘60s, sitcoms were generally good, clean fun for the whole family, but the landscape changed considerably in 1971 with the debut of All in the Family. Unlike any other sitcom before it, All in the Family...

My heart is still pounding from the shock of David Hale’s demise in Sons of Anarchy. Taylor Sheridan’s upright deputy, a paragon of probity in Charming’s gritty streets, was snuffed out in a brutal twist that left me floored.
Sincerely, I didn’t see that coming. Watching Hale get pancaked by a speeding van during Half-Sack’s funeral in Sons of Anarchy Season 3 felt like someone yanked the carpet from under my feet – no warning, just bam, goodbye moral compass.
Why would Kurt Sutter ax one of the few characters who wasn’t knee-deep in moral murk? But here I am, more than a decade later, and honestly, it finally clicks. Sheridan’s Hale wasn’t just collateral damage; his exit was the narrative ignition key. Sure, the kill came from contract frictions and some seriously ugly behind-the-scenes shade, but it also cracked open new story veins.

When it comes to crime dramas, there's certainly no shortage of titles from which to choose, and right now, the genre is on fire with recent hits like Adolescence, MobLand, and Dope Thief. They're just about on every platform, and they range in intensity from mild and comedic to gritty and violent.
Sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to find the right title to binge, so let me help you out with that. Here are 16 of the best binge-worthy crime dramas to watch that aren't on cable, in no particular order, but they're all a favorite in my book and should be a Must See in yours. Find out why in the list below!
1. Adolescence
This little gem dropped on Netflix recently, and it didn’t just make a splash, it created a tidal wave of critical acclaim. Adolescence is a limited series about a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a female classmate.

The Conners ended its run this week after seven impressive seasons and what can only be described as a start that grew out of a very controversial situation. What became a spinoff series of Rosanne originally hit ABC as a revival of the hit show, with comedian Roseanne Barr once again leading the Conner family. As quickly as the revival became a hit, Roseanne was abruptly canceled after Barr posted a tweet many perceived to be racist. The concept was retooled to then become The Conners and Roseanne was unceremoniously written out, something that she spoke out about in a blunt manner on more than one occasion. So, how does she feel now that The Conners is over? Despite initial hostility, her reaction to the series coming to an end is probably not one that many expected.

The Conners far exceeded anyone’s expectations — including my own. Having risen from the ashes of the Roseanne revival in 2018, this quasi-spinoff went on to run an astounding seven seasons, falling just two seasons shy of matching its predecessor’s original nine-season run. But along the way, the powers that be began to play fast and loose with continuity. Rather than embrace the franchise’s rich history, they often wrote around it (or worse, forgot about it entirely).
Right off the bat, the revival disavowed canon and resurrected Dan Conner. Quite frankly, it was the only way forward. But then...

Warning: Contains spoilers about the two-part series finale of The Conners, which aired April 23rd.
Between Roseanne and its sequel/spin-off The Conners, there were well over 300 episodes in the Lanford-verse before the Season Seven premiere of The Conners last month. That already would have been a lot of old story to wrap up before the show’s producers started introducing new plotlines — and it all had to be dispensed with in just six 21-minute episodes. A wrongful-death lawsuit over Roseanne’s fatal overdose pre-Conners gave the abbreviated seventh season a dramatic through-line, and viewers hoped that we’d be seeing them off into a more comfortable (imaginary) future. But if the ending of The Conners hadn’t been bittersweet, it wouldn’t have been The Conners: no franchise has ever portrayed struggle better.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the series finale of “The Conners,” streaming on Hulu as of April 24.
After 37 years, the adventures of Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and the rest of the family have come to an end with the series finale of “The Conners” on ABC Wednesday night. And although those kinds of goodbyes can be tricky, especially with a show that has so much history — both on-camera and off — executive producer Dave Caplan tells Variety, “We felt a tremendous responsibility to get this right.”
In a way, Caplan and fellow executive producers Bruce Helford and Bruce Rasmussen were aware of the pitfalls that an end of a series can present, keeping it storyline-driven and character-driven. And balancing keeping the conclusion sentimental when it should be, but funny as well. They felt like the “stewards” of the show and the characters, they say.

The dark and complex season 2 of "The Last of Us" is upon us, and with it, the events of Naughty Dog's sequel video game "The Last of Us Part II" begin to unfold in glorious (and gory) live-action. The hit HBO show's sophomore season is set to introduce a number of new characters, many of whom accompany Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) on a very special mission -- one that fans of the video game are no doubt already awaiting.
One of the key players in Abby's team is Mel, a former Firefly and a capable medic. Mel's medical knowledge plays an important role in the game's events, and the way she combines her caring nature with a surprising capacity for violence makes her one of the most memorable members of Abby's squad.
In the video game, Mel is voiced by "Mythic Quest" star Ashly Burch. However, she doesn't reprise the role in the show.

The second season of One Piece has wrapped filming with old and new fans of the franchise alike waiting to see where Monkey D. Luffy's (Iñaki Godoy) journey takes him next. Based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, the live-action adaptation of One Piece arrived in 2023 and established itself as a massive success for Netflix. Key to the show's success on the streamer was the authenticity of its characters, and none delivered on his role quite like Japanese actor, Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro. From the iconic green hair to his unique multi-sword fighting style, Mackenyu embodied Zoro perfectly from the very beginning. So, how did that come about?
Zoro is arguably one of the most beloved anime and manga characters there is. So there was understandably some skepticism surrounding the authenticity of his adaptation. However, Netflix's One Piece properly squashed those fears, and Mackenyu has revealed the secret behind this successful portrayal.

There is a lot of anticipation among fans of the popular manga, One Piece, regarding the second season of Netflix's live-action adaption of the story. Filming on Season 2 has already wrapped, so fans can look forward to an announcement regarding a release date sometime soon...we hope. Monkey D. Luffy's (Iñaki Godoy) and his desire to become the King of the Pirates is key to the One Piece storyline, and so is his Devil Fruit power, Gomu Gomu no Mi. Season 2 will have to grapple, not only with the storyline, but the outlandish scenes that accompany the manga. Central to that will be the arrival of the Zoans, the newest type of Devil Fruit users, who are known for their ability to transform into other creatures.

If you’re hooked on the wild ride of ‘Yellowstone,’ you’re not alone. We all crave that mix of rugged landscapes, family loyalty tested to the breaking point, and a raw sense of justice that doesn’t always play by the rules. The Dutton family’s saga has set a high bar, blending the beauty of Montana with the messy drama of power struggles. Lucky for us, there are other shows like ‘Yellowstone’ out there that capture that same gritty vibe, keeping you glued to the screen just as much.
I get it—sometimes you need more than a single series to fill that void. Shows like that don’t come around every day, but there’s a solid lineup of options that bring the same heat. Whether it’s the clash of kin, the law of the land, or folks taking matters into their own hands, these picks deliver.

Season 2 of the Netflix live-action adaptation of One Piece has yet to announce a release date, but it has already broken a franchise record. The next installment was confirmed immediately following the show's success when it first came out in 2023. As the show grows with anticipation, its production has caused it to reach this niche achievement.

The Conners happened out of a second thought when Roseanne makers couldn’t move forward with their planned main series continuation. Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets shut down any plans for the planned eleventh season. However, The Conners did not end up becoming another spin-off of a classic sitcom that fizzled out after a couple of seasons.

The Conners series was created following the sudden cancellation of the Roseanne revival. Many believed the spin-off would be quickly cancelled without Roseanne Barr, but the comedy became one of ABC's highest-rated scripted shows. Now, after seven years, the sitcom is coming to an end. Many of the characters have been around for decades, and the brood was revived once. Could The Conners return for an eighth season someday? Stay tuned.

When ABC canceled a reboot of its 1988-97 Emmy-winning comedy Roseanne in May 2017, after its titular star posted a “repugnant” and racist tweet, it seemed like the Conners of (fictional) Lanford, Ill., might be relegated to the TV land graveyard.
Then, just a month later, the network ordered a spin-off series that would bring the family at the center of one of the all-time great working-class sitcoms back to primetime, but without one key player: Roseanne, the character and the actress whose stand-up comedy about her own domestic life had been the basis of the series that was a top 10 ratings hit for its first seven seasons.

Roseanne returned in 2018 with an unlikely purpose. Yes, the decision to get the band back together was made in large part to reclaim the series’ legacy and erase its divisive final season (and several other late-in-run storylines) from canon, but the powers that be also had another objective in mind: They were going to tackle the nation’s opioid crisis — an epidemic that disproportionately impacted working class families like the Conners — head on. Viewers would soon discover that Roseanne Conner was reliant on painkillers and that she was keeping her addiction secret from her entire family, including Dan, her husband of 45 years.

The journey of Monkey D. Luffy is set to continue with his strife with the World Government intensifying even further when One Piece returns from its hiatus on April 5. The anime's return will see it air the next part of its Egghead Arc. While the anime continues to thrive, the Netflix live-action adaptation also continues to perform, as the audiences eagerly await the premiere of its second season, which has already wrapped filming. The entirety of the One Piece franchise is built on the works of the manga's creator, Eiichiro Oda, and while there is still alot of One Piece to go, Oda has already figured out how it all ends.
Fans of the franchise will already know Oda to be meticulous with how he plans, and with One Piece in its final saga, it is not surprising that the creator has some strategies in place. The sensei himself has...

Netflix's live-action One Pieceadaptation loses its showrunner.
Per Deadline, One Piece developer and showrunner Matt Owens has officially stepped away from the series following the conclusion of production on its second season. Owens explained the decision via a social media post in which he wrote, "The last six years working on the live-action One Piece have been a life-changing journey. A dream come true. It’s also been A Lot. So I'm stepping off the Going Merry to take a break and focus on myself and my mental health."
Based on the long-running manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, Netflix's One Piece premiered in 2023 to largely positive reviews from critics and an outpouring of praise from audiences. Another of the main creative forces behind Netflix's One Piece live-action adaptation is jumping off the Going Merry after Season 2 wrapped production. Matt Owens, who originally co-created and served as co-showrunner on the series with Steven Maeda has decided to step back to focus on his mental health. With his decision announced on Instagram, the main creative duo who spearheaded the effort at Netflix to adapt Eiichirô Oda's long-running manga is no longer involved, or, at the very least, is no longer calling the shots. Only Percy Jackson and the Olympians writer and co-executive producer Joe Tracz remains as showrunner for post-production after he took over for Maeda last April.
Owens has arguably been the mastermind behind One Piece, not only shaping the first two seasons but also laying out how the future would look for the show as it continued to adapt more of the manga. He's...

The Bundys may not have been a real family, but Katey Sagal was a real one.
The sad reality of starting an acting career at a young age has always been that the adults whom child performers encounter on set rarely have the kids’ best interests at heart. As such, when Christina Applegate became a professional performer at just three months old, appearing in the soap opera Days of Our Lives and in a commercial for baby bottles, she was unintentionally beginning the process of growing up far too quickly, a phenomenon that only intensified when she achieved national superstardom after joining the cast of Married… With Children in her mid-teens.
Thankfully for Applegate, Peggy Bundy had been around the block a few times before, and Sagal was able to look out for her TV daughter and play the mentor role that’s missing from too many child stars’ supporting casts.

The longest-running scripted American television series of all time is "The Simpsons," an adult animated show created by Matt Groening. Premiering in 1989, "The Simpsons" changed things as a cartoon that isn't exclusively geared toward younger audiences and also reinvented the sitcom format. The series showcased a modern middle-class family, loving yet utterly dysfunctional, while getting in plenty of mischief along the way. The show both tonally echoed contemporary sitcoms at the time of its debut and went on to inspire countless animated series that followed it.
With "The Simpsons" such an enduring and influential fixture in American television, there are a multitude of shows like it. Whether animated or in live-action, there are plenty of sitcoms that share DNA with Groening's masterpiece. At the core of most of these shows is a family, either biological or surrogate, defined by their differences and offbeat love for one another, marked with plenty of laughs.

Sons of Anarchy aired from 2008 to 2014, and the story of a ruthless motorcycle club, Sons of Anarchy aka Samcro, felt like a Shakespearean tragedy, especially at the very end. With seven difficult and devastating seasons, creator Kurt Sutter wrote a gripping story of a motorcycle club's ups and downs, making its members morally gray characters people enjoy cheering for. The show stars Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Ron Perlman, and other exceptionally talented actors who helped shape the show into the brilliant work of art it is.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Sagal opened up about claiming the role as Dr. Kureha of Drum Island after fellow Hollywood icon and scream queen extraordinaire Jamie Lee Curtis turned the part down due to scheduling conflicts with her upcoming horror-comedy sequel, Freakier Friday. "If you haven’t watched live-action One Piece, you have to watch it. It’s on Netflix. I saw it by accident. We were just scrolling around and there it was. I was not familiar with the manga," Sagal recalled. "And like within a month, my agents call me and say ‘Hey, we got this offer for you on this show called One Piece. What made Sons of Anarchywork so well was its ensemble cast. From the man at the center of it all, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), to the fading king Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman), and the original queen of Samcro Gemma Teller-Morrow (Katey Sagal). Even though Gemma wasn’t a member of the club herself she was hugely instrumental in its functioning. Even after the death of John Teller, the club’s founder, she remained one of the moving parts of the Sons, and not only because she was Jax’s mother and Clay’s wife. Gemma’s long history with the club, going back to its early days, allowed her a certain knowledge that made her a key factor to the club. Where other members’ old ladies didn’t know much about the club's going ons, Gemma was often quite central and meddled her way in, for better or for worse.

Sons of Anarchyfollows the lives of an outlaw motorcycle club and how it slowly loses its last shreds of morality. So, it should be no surprise that it delves into some pretty grim territory. Whether it be severe violence, gore, or a slew of offensive language, the show pushed its boundaries and was celebrated for its gritty portrayal. These types of stories kept audiences locked in to see where it would go next. One of its most brutal and devastating storylines happened in only the second season, including introducing us to some seriously deranged villains. This is, of course, the Zobelle (Adam Arkin) arc and the horrific things he and his crew did to not only the Mc but to Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal) — the club's matriarch. It was a thrilling ride every week as the storyline unfolded (even if it was hard to stomach sometimes). But it also infuriates...

The end is in sight for The Conners.
ABC has set a March 26 premiere date for the comedy’s seventh and final season. The Conners is ending with an abbreviated, six-episode run; ABC announced the final season in May 2024.
The show will take up its usual 8 p.m. Wednesday time period for the final episodes. That spot’s current occupant, Shifting Gears, is scheduled to conclude its first season on March 19.
Season seven will bring the series to a total of 112 episodes, an increasingly rare accomplishment for a network comedy series. Only one other current live-action broadcast comedy — CBS’ The Neighborhood — has more than 100 episodes to its name. (Fox’s animated stalwarts The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers are also long past that mark.)
The Conners — a spinoff of ABC’s 2018 Roseanne revival that was canceled after one season following racist remarks by star Roseanne Barr — has been a solid performer throughout its run.

The Sons of Anarchy hard-hitting biker gang show turned out to be a hit. Its fame and popularity proved that there was a demand for a show like that. In 2012, Discovery moved forward with its own bikers show. Titled The Devils Ride, the reality show follows a real-life gang as they undergo hardship and troubles just like Samcro in Sons of Anarchy. By that time, Kurt Sutter's show had already earned a following, which prompted Discovery to use its name as a reference in the promotional material.
Sutter was unhappy about another biker show trying to use his brand to appeal to the same fan base. In a now hidden post on Twitter/X (via Entertainment Weekly), Sutter wrote: "if Devil’S Ride is gonna advertise itself as a ‘real-life Soa’ then i get to weigh in. they’re f—ing with my brand and they sure Ain’T it.

Rossi has also appeared in several projects, such as Netflix's hit Christmas action movie Carry-On and the critically-acclaimed DC show The Penguin.

If The Conners season 7 wants to provide a satisfying ending to the Roseanne franchise’s overarching story, there are at least ten plots that the sitcom must wrap up. The Conners season 7 has a tricky road ahead. According to a TVLine report from late 2024, the final season of the Roseanne spinoff will be a “Six-episode farewell event” for the series. The Conners’ large cast of characters means that even the show’s normal seasons, which include over twenty episodes, often struggle to give every family member a moment in the spotlight. This makes season 7’s job even tougher.

Ever since Taylor Sheridan's 2015 hit Sicario debuted, he quickly became a critically revered multi-hyphenate in Hollywood. Award-winning films like Hell or High Water and his Yellowstone television empire soon followed, establishing the Texas native in the industry as a character-focused storyteller, notably ridding himself of writer's room constraints and breaking traditional, plot-driven rules. As his work garners continued praise, fans have turned their attention to his rise to fame. Before discovering his behind-the-scenes talent, Sheridan began his film career as an actor.
Despite becoming a Western staple of modern film and TV, his first claim to fame was FX's outlaw, biker-gang drama Sons of Anarchy. Created and directed by Kurt Sutter, the show follows lead Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) as he navigates the titular club (often referred to by the acronym Samcro) after his father's death. Although Samcro protects its Californian hometown from various threats, it also runs an illegal arms business.

The Palisades Charter High School, which has become recognizable to millions as a location where multiple movies and television series have been filmed inside its halls and exterior, is seeking a temporary campus after 40 percent of the property was scorched in the ongoing Palisades Fire.
Faculty and students are barred from entering the campus, according to an announcement from the school indicating that a decent portion of the school remains viable after the largest fire in Los Angeles history tore through the campus. Principal Dr. Pam McGee wrote that the charter schools’ classroom buildings and gyms were in good shape and its gyms, baseball field, stadium and aquatic center are all viable.
The fires that are still burning in the area have led to the start of the semester being delayed until Jan. 21, when the school plans to offer online instruction when classes resume next week. The Palisades Fire was...
