To say that few filmmakers love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino is a staggering understatement. Few people love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino, and the cinephile’s tastes continue to shape Hollywood.

The video store clerk-turned-director has spent decades dazzling interviewers and fans with his unparalleled knowledge of cinema history, with tastes that range from universally acclaimed classics to more obscure and even lowbrow fare. While his love of spaghetti Westerns and exploitation flicks has always been well-documented, Tarantino isn’t afraid to publicly embrace the modern or mainstream. He proudly championed “Top Gun: Maverick” in the summer of 2022, as did so many others. Not to mention, he’s a fan of rom-coms, particularly on long flights. (He once dubbed Kate Hudson “the queen of the skies” and he’s not wrong!) The man just loves cinema, and if a film entertains him, he’s going to tell the world about it.

There’s being a team player, and there’s playing a member of the team.

That’s the singular synergy that developed between Kate Hudson and Jeanie Buss, the inspiration behind Isla Gordon, Hudson’s character on Netflix’s Running Point. The comedy follows Gordon, as she takes over running her famiy’s basketball team — much as Buss runs the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I couldn’t be more proud,” says Buss of seeing herself — or a likeness thereof — portrayed on screen by Hudson. “I love the sense of humor and the friendship and camaraderie between Brenda Song and Kate — it’s inspiring.”

It follows six friends who go on a relaxing trip together, only to learn that one couple intends to end their relationship. With a Four Seasons cast that includes Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, Steve Carell, Erika Henningsen, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Fey, the series has received generally positive reviews.

Netflix is ditching its usual Fysee: LA pop-up destination, and instead will turn its annual Emmys showcase into what it’s positioning as a citywide festival. Top Netflix contenders like “Adolescence,” “Black Mirror” and “The Four Seasons” will be spotlighted through a mix of official TV Academy FYC panels and standalone events, as announced Thursday by comedian John Mulaney.

Running May 17 to June 2, the two-week festival will take place in multiple theaters across town.

Focus Features will open Yorgos Lanthimos latest movie, Bugonia, on Oct. 24 in a limited engagement ahead of its wide break on Oct. 31.

We told you last year that Focus Features took global rights off the table on Lanthimos’ latest, a remake of the South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet. Bugonia sees two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Planet Earth.

Bugonia stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Lanthimos directs from a screenplay by Will Tracy whose recent credits include The Menu and Succession. Lanthimos is an internationally renowned, five-time Academy Award-nominated director, producer, and screenwriter known for such visionary films as Poor Things, The Favourite, and The Lobster.

The weeklong cinematic event will feature screenings of the film, which was shot in VistaVision, at select locations in New York and Los Angeles.

“Bugonia,” the latest collaboration between director Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone, will premiere ahead of schedule.

The film will open in select theaters on Oct. 24 before expanding nationwide on Oct. 31. That’s slightly earlier than the original release date of Nov. 7. Focus Features is rolling out “Bugonia” in the U.S. and Canada while Universal Pictures, the specialty studio’s parent company, will handle international distribution.

Netflix is launching its own two-week TV festival to toast its hit series, this year moving it to Los Angeles.

The studio announced the inaugural fest, titled Fysee LA, that will take place across Los Angeles from May 17 to June 2. The Voice has found its latest “mega mentors.”

The NBC music competition series has added Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes to Season 27, NBC said Monday. The pair will serve as mentors for contestants, with Crow joining coaches Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé and Rimes working alongside John Legend and Adam Levine.

Each coach enters the playoffs with five artists per team, helping the artists ahead of their most high-stakes performances before the coaches choose two artists from their team to advance to the live shows.

It comes after Season 26 had former coach Jennifer Hudson and Sting as mentors.

Crow and Rimes are the latest to be added to this season after Kate Hudson, Coco Jones, Cynthia Erivo and Little Big Town joined as battle advisors.

Crow is a newbie to The Voice universe, while Rimes has been a coach on the UK and Australian versions of the show.

The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.

The disappointing renewal update was shared during a wide-ranging interview with Deadline, who asked Dungey if she could see The Sex Lives of College Girls make the jump to Netflix, similar to how The Sandman spinoff Dead Boy Detectives moved from Max to Netflix during its production. "I don’t think so. We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing, because it’s a show that we really love," Dungey stated. "I’m so proud of the three seasons that we did at Max but I don’t...

It’s an abstinence-only ending for The Sex Lives of College Girls, after efforts to resurrect the canceled Max series have proved futile. Back in March, the network told the comedy drama to get off (not in a good way), axing it after a three-season run. Since then, Warner Bros. Television, the folks behind the project, started working hard to secure another set of episodes that would carry on the story of the young group of friends. Unfortunately, the Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble co-created title just can’t seem to seal the deal with any other prospective buyers, making this the end of the road.
