Like love and marriage, comic book movies and cameos are an institute you cannot disparage. Marvel might be the trailblazer in this regard, finding unique and innovative ways to shoehorn everyone and their uncle into a movie or TV show, but DC isn't immune from turning its audience into a real-life Pointing Rick Dalton meme. Yet, for every great appearance, there's also a flubber -- a moment that flops harder than "Joker: Folie à Deux" did at the box office.
Take a look at 2023's "The Flash" as an example. With all its multiversal potential, minds raced to the infinite possibilities, imagining the chances of seeing Christian Bale's Batman return for a triumphant third act cameo or even seeing Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern fly in for a visit. Instead, it turned into a CGI horrorfest where the tributes to past heroes angered -- rather than captivated -- viewers. It...

A chorus line of past presidents from past years showed up via old video to give an edited mash-up speech, but there was no current Potus, no VP, no roast by a comedian and few Hollywood power players at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight in Washington DC.
Yet, with Donald Trump still yet to make his Whcd debut as president, White House Correspondents’ Association president Eugene Daniels had no intention of burying the lede Saturday of the barricades up between the current White House and institutional media in America. “We journalists are a lot of things,“ Daniels exclaimed to a standing ovation in his First Amendment celebrating closing remarks on this 96th day of Trump 2.0. “What we are not is the opposition. What we are not is the enemy of the people, and what we are not is the enemy of the state.”

Journalism’s big night out returned on Saturday in Washington as reporters, editors and A-list celebrities mingled at the Washington Hilton at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, an event jokingly called the “nerd prom,” in what was a more muted soirée that, for the fourth time while he has been in the Oval Office, was not attended by President Donald Trump. This year, the Whca opted to focus on the stellar journalism produced as the current administration charges into uncharted territory.
With the absence of the sitting president and the decision to nix a comic brought onstage to roast the leader of the free world — a lighthearted and often funny tradition that typically follows the meal, this year’s dinner continued the event’s downward slide in relevance as a cultural moment. Previous years have seen memorable roasts of sitting presidents and stand out moments from notable names like Joel McHale and Conan O’Brien,...

Filmmaker Zack Snyder’s tenure with DC proved to be extremely tumultuous and had several ups and downs. With the arrival of James Gunn's first Superman trailer creating buzz across the internet, many DC Universe fans are taking a longer look at the director's first slate of films and are noticing a glaring omission among them. It would seem that one-third of DC’s iconic “Trinity” is missing from James Gunn’s immediate Dcu plans. Despite a vague Amazonian show being planned for an unspecified future release, it looks like audiences will need to wait to see that corner of DC brought back to the silver screen.

20 years ago, Justice League Unlimited proved why Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet is one of her greatest assets in DC lore, despite her ability to fly on her own. The Invisible Jet has been a major part of Wonder Woman comic lore since her 1941 debut, yet viewers and readers could easily misunderstand its purpose, especially with many iterations of Wonder Woman having comparable flight abilities to Superman. Justice League Unlimited brought the iconic Jet to the DC Animated Universe, casually demonstrating why it is so invaluable to Wonder Woman in the process.

Initially, the Invisible Jet was a necessity for Wonder Woman due to her inability to fly on her own. This was the case for Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot’s iterations...

It’s fair to assume that when most people think of Marvel movies, they immediately think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That certainly stands out as one of the most universally-known aspects of Marvel, with groundbreaking films like The Avengers making up the vast MCU landscape. But, of course, the MCU doesn’t even begin to cover every story in the Marvel Comics repertoire, and Marvel movies existed long before Phase One started.
A long-discussed subject among Marvel fans is the question of which movie was Marvel’s first. It’s perhaps an explainable course of conversation, given Marvel’s history. Marvel Comics wasn’t known by that name for decades before the 1960s when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby entered the picture. The Silver Age of Comics is when Marvel became Marvel, and characters like the X-Men and Spider-Man were born in that period. Since they dominated the comic industry for generations,...

A holiday special may not be coming soon as many anticipated, but fans can still watch Deadpool get in the holiday spirit.
In a special video released on social media, Deadpool teams up with Kidpool on Santa's sleigh to raise money for the SickKids foundation. To do so, they recruit former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter, who does her iconic twirl, but does not put on the classic costume. Reynolds posted the hilarious and heartwarming clip on X with the caption "Don’t need a lasso to say how thankful I am for @sickkids." Ryan Reynolds is back in his Deadpool costume again, but not to fight Wolverine or any of his rivals – he’s dressed for the holiday season in a new heartwarming video. Despite his foul-mouthed expressions and ultra-violent tendencies, he’s got a big heart, especially for sick children.

The Canadian star expressed support for the SickKids Foundation and appeared together with Kidpool and the original Wonder Woman in an annual Christmas campaign to help kids in need.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool made another hilarious jab at DC Studios
The new video proved Ryan Reynolds’ comedic timing as Deadpool never goes out of style, and it was made even more hilarious with his interactions with Kidpool (Inez Reynolds) and Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter). Deadpool and Wonder Woman teaming up to save Christmas wasn’t exactly on our radar for 2024, but if there is one thing that The Merc with a Mouth has taught us it’s that we should always expect the unexpected as there’s nothing Marvel Jesus can’t do it seems!
Ryan Reynolds has truly upped the ante with his annual holiday video in support of SickKids Foundation, enlisting help from Deadpool, Kidpool, and Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter!
In the hilarious new spot, Deadpool and Kidpool team up to eliminate sick kids… or rather, eliminate the sickness the kids are facing by helping to encourage donations for The Hospital for Sick Children. Of course, as two R-rated heroes, they need a bit of help in spreading Christmas cheer which comes in the form of a “seriously wonderful woman.”

Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has donned the costume again for a new promotional video, which sees the Merc With a Mouth join forces with the equally foul-mouthed Kidpool (Inez Reynolds) and our original live-action Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, to help eliminate sick kids... ehhh, make that eliminate the sickness from kids.
The video, which is part of Reynolds and Maximum Effort's annual Christmas campaign in support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), finds Wade Wilson and his younger variant commandeering Santa's sleigh to deliver gifts in the most haphazard way possible. When Kidpool asks what they should do next, Wilson suggests it's time to tackle childhood sickness.
Deadpool acknowledges that they might be a bit too "R-rated" for the task, and a much more wholesome representative appears in the form of Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter.

Today's episode of Creature Commandos puts the spotlight on G.I. Robot and ends with Circe's defeat at the hands of Task Force M. As we explained in our recap, the Amazon warns the team that by stopping her from killing the Princess, they've doomed the world.
In a first look at next Thursday's "Chasing Squirrels," we see that Weasel is also set to receive the origin story treatment. However, in the latter half of this promo, Circe gives Amanda Waller a glimpse at the Dcu's future...and we see a lot of dead heroes.
Superman, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Starfire, and Robin are all shown, but the biggest news contained here is our first glimpse at the Dcu's Wonder Woman.
She's wearing a comic-accurate costume, with trunks similar to those worn by Lynda Carter in the 1970s TV series (and during her earlier comic book appearances). The hero's headpiece is also shown,...

After fighting with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to stop Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and save his world in Deadpool & Wolverine, the Merc with a Mouth is now taking on a much greater foe - childhood sickness. As part of Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort's annual Christmas video in support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Deadpool is mounting up on Santa's sleigh (don't ask how he got it) with Kidpool (Inez Reynolds) to help fight for the health and well-being of the little ones. They're a little too R-rated, though, so they've recruited a very "wonderful woman" for the occasion in Lynda Carter. Together, they look to bring yuletide cheer and encourage everyone to donate to a good cause that will make a child's life better this holiday season.

A surprise Marvel and DC mashup has arrived just in time for the holidays — sort of.
Ryan Reynolds slipped back into his Deadpool costume for a special sixth outing on behalf of a fundraiser supporting the SickKids Foundation, aka The Hospital for Sick Children. In doing so, he’s teamed up with Kidpool and summoned Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter for a cameo in the new clip, which follows appearances by Seth Rogen and Michael Bublé in years past.
“Benevolence is thirsty work,” Deadpool says in the opening moments as he saddles up next to a sleigh filled with Kidpool, who asks, “Where to next?”
The foul-mouthed superhero has an idea for the mission. “I thought we’d eliminate sick kids,” he states, though Kidpool, played by Inez Reynolds, thinks the suggestion is pretty “f—ed up.” “No, no, no, we’re eliminating the sickness by encouraging people to donate...

Quick Links What is Wonder Woman and the Star Riders? What Happened to Wonder Woman's Animated Series? What Wonder Woman's TV History Teaches Us
The '90s were a new era for animation, and few realize how close it came to producing one of the strangest magical girl series starring Wonder Woman. Known as a golden age for superhero shows, the decade gave us Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men: The Animated Series, and even Sailor Moon, all of which left a lasting mark on pop culture. However, shaped by the trends of the time, curious, creative decisions, and Wonder Woman's long struggle to return to television, the story of Wonder Woman and the Star Riders is one of the weirdest in DC’s history. 2017’s Wonder Woman was a massive hit, but it’s still in a class of its own among female-led superhero movies. Despite Wonder Woman’s legacy as the first female superhero, her live-action appearances were shockingly infrequent prior to 2016, and essentially begin and end with the Lynda Carter-led Wonder Woman TV series from the late ‘70s, […]

In what can only be described as saddening news, legendary actor Ron Ely has passed away at the age of 86. The announcement came from his daughter Kirsten Casale Ely, who told The Associated Press that he died on September 29 at his home in Los Alamos, California.
Ely was best known for portraying Tarzan in the NBC TV series, which ran for three seasons between 1966 and 1968. A time when action-packed TV shows based on classic characters were big commodities for network television (See: Batman), Tarzan maintained many of the elements that were popular with the source material, but it is particularly notable for not featuring Jane. It's also notable for the fact that Ely did the majority of his own stunts (and suffered some injuries as a result of that).

The 2024 election is approaching fast, with less than two weeks to go until election day on Nov. 5, and the campaigns are both winding down and heating up as a result. It's been one of the weirdest in recent memory, what with President Joe Biden dropping out of the race after his disastrous and concerning debate performance. Hollywood always likes to speak out, with the loudest voices usually being liberals, but there have been some surprising endorsements of Donald Trump recently, and now we can add Mel Gibson to the list.
While leaving the airport, a member of the paparazzi asked Gibson about the coming election, as reported by TMZ. "Oh man, that's a big question," said Gibson. "I don't think it's going to surprise anyone who I vote for." The reporter then asked if Trump was a bad guess. "I think that's a pretty good guess," responded Gibson. "I know...

Wonder Woman is one of the greatest superheroes the world has ever known. A warrior from Paradise Island, a.k.a. Themyscira, she fights for people's rights and always chooses love over hate; inspiring such hope across the world ever since her introduction into DC Comics in 1941.
We've seen multiple live-action versions of the character over the years, most notably Lynda Carter's in the 1975 Wonder Woman TV series, and Gal Gadot's in the DC Extended Universe movies. It was thought that the latter would continue playing the hero for many more years to come as the Dceu was just getting started, but her future was called into question when DC Studios took over the helm as Wonder Woman 3 was cancelled.
Now, DC Studios co-chairman and CEO James Gunn has seemingly confirmed on social media that the Amazonian warrior will be recast in the new DC Universe franchise.

As the DC Universe takes shape, the Wonder Woman franchise starring Gal Gadot's eponymous superhero remains one of the biggest casualties following the DC Extended Universe's conclusion. One of the Dceu film series' stars believes it's "crazy" DC Studios canceled a planned threequel given how much success the eponymous first movie and its sequel, 1984, garnered.
Speaking with Den of Geek to promote Gladiator II, Connie Nielsen admitted her disappointment that Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 was axed after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as DC Studios co-CEOs in 2022. Nielsen finds it mind-boggling that DC didn't milk the franchise for what it's worth, considering its commercial success and wide-ranging fan base. I think its crazy. Smallville was a beloved series to many, with the TV show keeping Superman relevant for a generation of viewers. Focused on the early days of Clark Kent, it was the premiere superhero show long before the Arrowverse aired on the same network. Even after Smallville came to a close, this wasn't the end for the narrative that had put The WB and its successor, The CW, on the map.
Smallville Season 11 was a comic book continuation of the story that took place after the series finale. Finally, showcasing Clark Kent openly operating as Superman, it took the plot in directions that it never could have on the small screen. This allowed major DC heroes to debut and fight alongside Clark, though it had the effect of making the true series finale something that most fans didn't see.

The 1975 TV series "Wonder Woman" is deeply beloved by dutiful Gen-Xers who watched it as children. The show's combination of silly action, funky music, and campy humor hit a sweet spot, presenting the title heroine as bold, strong, and capable, but also upbeat, happy, and capable of whimsy. Also, because lead actress Lynda Carter is so dazzling, many Gen-Xers may confess to having a crush on Wonder Woman at some point. The series was a hit, lasting 59 episodes over three seasons. Along with 1952's "The Adventures of Superman," 1966's "Batman," and 1978's "The Incredible Hulk," "Wonder Woman" was, for many decades, one of the most celebrated superhero TV shows ever made.
"Wonder Woman" began its life as a 1974 pilot starring Cathy Lee Crosby, as a reimagined version of the character. That pilot didn't fly, but ABC was eager to do something successful with the character and launched a second pilot...

The classic Batman TV series inhabits a far larger universe than one might think. Starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin, the 1960s Batman TV series is famous for its intentionally campy portrayal of Batmans corner of the DC Universe, yet the show is undeniably a culturally impactful and comic-accurate adaptation of Batman. The series gave numerous Batman comic villains their live-action debuts (and created original ones who eventually made their way into the comics), turning obscure villains like The Riddler into mainstream Batman antagonists overnight.
Although the Batman TV series did not take itself too seriously, it is, ultimately, an authentic representation of the Batman comics of the Silver Age. Fittingly, given the crossover-heavy nature of the superhero genre, the Batman TV series establishes that Batman and Robin are not the only superheroes in their world. Bruce Campbell has played supporting roles in so many films and TV shows, he once wrote a fictionalized autobiography -- "Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way" -- about how his biggest possible break would be playing a sage-like doorman in a high-profile Hollywood drama starring Richard Gere and Renée Zellweger. In the fake Hollywood movie, Campbell would be the character to dole out advice to the lead characters and get their lives on track. It's telling that Campbell, even in a fictional version of Hollywood, didn't cast himself as the leading man.
Of course, Campbell has rarely been romantic about acting. He takes his craft seriously, but sees it more as a blue-collar profession than a heady art that requires years of study. Given that Campbell started his career getting splashed with fake blood in a series of zero-budget monster movies, this attitude is understandable. The ironic twist in "Make Love!

While there is no denying that the Star Wars character was culturally significant in many ways, fans seem to be siding with the DC actress. Even going as far as to call her the ultimate fanboy crush of all time.
