Yep, Practical Magic 2 is officially on its way, and we’re all set to rewind the golden age of VHS. Seriously, it’s been over 25 years since Sally and Gillian Owens first cast their chaotic charm on us. Now they’re back, still witchy, fabulous, and hopefully still making midnight drinks while breaking generational curses.
With Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning, we’re about to dive into the magic mix of potions, drama, and probably dancing in the moonlight. But while we wait for this magic to happen on September 18, 2026, let’s rewind the ‘90s mood of cult classics. Yep, we’re talking about those slightly weird, wildly lovable movies that stuck us like glitter on a velvet dress.
So, before the iconic Owen sisters return, let’s revisit the vibes that actually...

Centered on the vigilante serial killer, Dexter is a series that does not limit itself when it comes to bringing back memorable characters. However, not every character’s return fits seamlessly into the story, as is the case with Julie Benz’s Rita Morgan.
Benz portrayed the role of Rita Morgan, Dexter’s girlfriend and later wife and the mother of his son Harrison, who met a tragic end in Season 4. The actress has since reflected on her potential return to the series, explaining why it might not be the right choice.

Since the very first season of Dexter, Julie Benz played the role of Rita Morgan, who met Dex through his sister Debra. And though he initially appeared emotionally distant, Rita was arguably one of the first people to help him open up and genuinely care for someone.

Dexter goes down in history as one of the best shows with a terrible series finale. But that’s Ok, because the series' reputation was partially saved by the continuation series Dexter: New Blood, along with the prequel Dexter: Original Sin. Now, in April 2025, there will be Dexter: Resurrection, a direct continuation of Dexter: New Blood that brings the fan-favorite vigilante killer back to life – literally.
The series has fans giddy about what’s to come for Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). Tons of big-name actors have been named among the cast, including Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, and Eric Stonestreet. Along with Hall, James Remar will reprise his role as the late Harry Morgan, who serves as Dexter’s ghost guide, as well as David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista and Jack Alcott, who appeared as the grown son Harrison in New Blood. The Trinity Killer's surprise return in Dexter: Resurrection gets a new explanation from John Lithgow. After the success of creator Clyde Phillips' original Dextershow, Michael C. Hall returned as the titular serial killer in Dexter: New Blood in 2021, 8 years after the divisive season 8 finale. Now, Hall is reprising his role as the character once more in the Dexter: Resurrection sequel show, which will feature the return of some familiar cast members, including David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer.
In a recent interview with Variety, Lithgow confirms that viewers shouldn't expect to see the Trinity Killer beyond a brief cameo in Dexter: Resurrection. The actor reveals that he returned for only one day of filming, with his character appearing as a "phantom" to Dexter as he awakens in the hospital. Check out Lithgow's...

Following Dextersequel series, currently in development, showrunners are preparing another spin-off: a prequel about the Trinity Killer, reminding viewers of the original show's most impactful moment: Rita Morgan's death. Dexter's original series finale was famously controversial. However, several seasons before the serial killer drama's conclusion, another contentious ending rocked its audience.
The events of the Dexter Season 4 finale aggravated more than a few viewers — for understandable reasons. Dexter's kind-hearted wife, Rita Morgan (Julie Benz), was murdered by the most notorious villain ever to appear in the Showtime series. Plenty of critics and viewers praised the episode, entitled "The Getaway." But many fans were upset about the message sent by Rita's death. And, to make matters worse, the reason why the series killed Rita off reinforced a harmful TV trope. Years later, Rita is barely even mentioned in the new Dexter spin-offs, while the Trinity Killer is getting his own prequel spin-off.

For years, fans have speculated about connections between their favorite TV shows, leading to some truly creative fan theories. One of the more surprising theories to gain traction suggests that Buffy the Vampire Slayerand Dexter take place in the same world. At first glance, this might seem unlikely – after all, one is a supernatural drama about a teenage vampire slayer, while the other follows a forensic expert moonlighting as a serial killer. However, one minor but intriguing detail has led fans to believe the two series might be more connected than they appear.
The theory hinges on a shared reference to Doublemeat Palace, a fictional fast-food chain that appears in both shows. Since Doublemeat Palace doesn’t exist outside these two series, some fans believe this was an intentional Easter egg linking their universes. However, while the idea of a crossover is fun to consider, there’s one big problem...

Michael C. Hall is returning as Dexter Morgan once again in the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection. Several other franchise stars will appear in the series, but Julia Stiles isn't counting on getting the call to return as Lumen.
In the fifth season of the original Dexter, Stiles played Lumen Pierce, a survivor of a serial killer murdered by Dexter. She becomes an ally to Dexter, convincing him to help her exact revenge against a group of men who'd sexually assaulted her. Though she served as a love interest for Dexter, Lumen wound up leaving at the end of the season, no longer feeling the need to kill after all of her own abusers were dead. She hasn't been seen in the franchise since, and Stiles doesn't expect that to change with Dexter: Resurrection.

After watching Squid Game season 2, audiences may be craving even more horrific stories, and luckily, Netflix has several great movies to check out. Among Netflix's vast catalog of movies and shows, Squid Game is one of the most unique entries. The South Korean show centers on a series of deadly children's games, where the poor and vulnerable compete for a life-changing amount of money. In season 2, audiences got to see even more bloody games, alongside Gi-hun's newfound mission to take down the Front Man. Yet, the end of Squid Game season 2 may leave viewers wanting more.
Because of Squid Game's distinct premise, it may feel impossible to find another movie or show that evokes the same feelings. Though there are countless K-dramas to watch, many of them lack the dark edge of Squid Game. Similarly, American thrillers are incredibly easy to find, yet few have the intense trials that...

Dexter: Resurrection is making plans for its debut, which includes updates about filming, release window, and some big casting. Here’s what we know so far!
Per TV Line, Dexter: Resurrection will begin filming this month in January 2025, and is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime. That’s definitely a fast turnaround. But you won't hear us complaining!
The prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is currently releasing new episodes and the season comes to a close in February. So it'll only be a few months after that until we get more of the crime drama world, this time back to Michael C. Hall who originated the role. Both in the prequel and Resurrection, there's some familiar faces reprising their roles. So who exactly?

Years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of Sarah Michelle Gellar's new roles just made a shared universe theory a lot harder to explain. There are plenty of shared cinematic universes in the modern day. From Quentin Tarantino's shared universe to more explicit crossovers like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's incredibly common for new films and shows to be connected to a larger franchise. Back in 2003, when Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, however, it wasn't nearly as commonplace. That's why one shared universe theory for the show was so surprising, and why it's a big deal that it's harder to justify now.

Before The Vampire Diaries and True Blood brought vampires back into fashion on television, Buffy the Vampire Slayer popularized the undead for TV in the '90s. Buffy ran from 1997 to 2003, choosing to end while it was still at its peak instead of fizzling out, which is very respectable. New comics, books, and exclusive audiobook narratives are still being made about the fans' favorite Scoobies to this day, highlighting the show's lasting legacy and influence in keeping vampires cool. There's even an official beauty line which was created in collaboration with Juliet Landau (Drusilla) and Julie Benz (Darla).

Dexter had the potential to be an all-time great but fumbled in its latter half, which never should have been made in the first place. Dexter stars Michael C. Hall as the titular protagonist who, across eight seasons and 96 episodes, doubles as a forensic specialist and blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and a methodical vigilante serial killer. Dexter breaks the convention of traditional serial killers because he is guided by a strict rulebook that prevents him from killing innocent people — most of the time – based on his adoptive father Harry Morgan's code.
Based on the character created by author Jeff Lindsay, Showtime's Dexter follows Miami Metro Police Department's most skilled blood spatter analyst, Dexter Morgan, as he attempts to satisfy his Dark Passenger's need to kill by hunting down criminals who have escaped justice.

Some TV shows have had a lasting legacy, creating characters or worlds so popular that they simply must be explored. A reboot, a spinoff, or a prequel could allow writers to show how a character came to be, explain what happened after the final scene, or explore more of the universe that had been created in the original show. Certain stars are happy to return for more adventures, some smaller parts get expanded, and abandoned storylines can be revisited.
Over a few seasons, quite a lot is bound to happen. Some viewers might cling to a mystery that had been introduced but never explained, while some subjects might get addressed that no one ever thought would see the light of day. Then, there are continuity errors that get a clean slate when given the chance to explain. It's interesting to see how different shows have tackled some burning questions that...

In the glitz and glamour of television, while some shows last for many seasons, others fizzle out quickly. For No Ordinary Family as well, it premiered in 2010 with very high expectations blending family drama with superhero storytelling. But since it could not live up to its promises, the show was canceled after just one season, leaving fans disappointed.

The show followed the lives of the Powell family, whose ordinary lives took a drastic turn after they mysteriously survived a plane crash that granted them superpowers. While this premise was not something completely out of the box, the humorous elements surely made it a lot more interesting. Based on this it also had a very strong start with viewers really appreciating the show and its engaging storyline.
However, it failed to maintain this momentum and was canceled after the first season itself.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer left one major plot hole unsolved for the tortured anti-hero Spike (James Marsters) it was unclear who his vampire sire was, and whether it was Angel (David Boreanz) or Drusilla (Juliet Landau). The conflicting information made the Angel reveal fall flat, and seemed to be a simple attempt at patching up a plot hole. In the show, Angel is born as Liam in 18th-century Ireland, and is revealed to have been turned by his former lover Darla (Julie Benz). He took on the name Angelus, and became the most ruthless vampire in European history.
As viewers learn, he is later cursed with a human soul as karma, and he has to live with all the atrocities he has committed. When Angel loses his humanity in Buffy, his evil knows no bounds. After Spike showcasing his own villainy all season, it seems only natural that Angel would...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is known for its strong female characters, starting with its titular heroine. Over the course of seven seasons, Sarah Michelle Gellars Slayer encountered hordes of vampires, demons, and other Big Bads in her efforts to save Sunnydale. With her loyal Scooby Gang and Watcher by her side, the denizens of the Hellmouth barely stood a chance.
Many of her fiercest enemies were also female and were played by some of the best actors to appear on the show, including Eliza Dushku, Alyson Hannigan and Julie Benz. As a result, many of Buffys most memorable scenes and battles involved female antagonists.

Fans of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” were sad when her love interest and fan favorite Angel announced his departure at the end of the third season. But the character of Angel, played by David Boreanaz, got his own spin-off show that took him away from Sunnydale and to the big city of Los Angeles. “Angel” debuted on October 5, 1999 and immediately split fans on which was the “better” show. Read on for more about the “Angel” 25th anniversary.

In addition to those that are part of the hugely successful MCU and Dcu, there are many other superhero TV shows that are criminally overlooked and deserve to be revisited. With the rise of the superhero genre to the forefront of pop culture consciousness, there has been huge interest in comic book stories on both the big and small screens. For example, the TV shows of the MCU have achieved widespread success in terms of viewership and engagement.
However, outside of franchises like the MCU, the massively successful DC animated universe of TV shows, and the Arrowverse, there havent been as many series to meet with the same success. For one reason or another, many superhero TV shows are criminally underrated or otherwise forgotten, despite being more than worthy of the same popularity afforded to mainstream Marvel or DC releases. With that in mind, here are 10 overlooked superhero TV shows that deserve a rewatch.

“I killed Liz. I killed the teen dream. “Deal with it.”
Every high school has them: the beautiful ones. Glamorous, popular, happy, and thriving, these teenage dream girls rise to the top of any social environment and effortlessly achieve anything they put their minds to. Serving as both role models and fashion plates, they’re worshiped and revered by the rest of the school who grasp for scraps of their exorbitant power. While there have always been mean girls who also happen to be popular, this cinematic archetype arguably dates back to the weaponized girlie pop perfection of Darren Stein‘s Jawbreaker . Closing out the 20th century, this high camp film originated the now iconic hot girl walk while exploring the hell of teenage girlhood.

An inordinate number of amazing female TV characters were mistreated either by the narrative or the audience and didn't get the legacy they deserved. Several TV characters who completely divided their audience fall into this category, being women who tell empowering or nuanced stories but were received poorly because of double standards or one bad storyline. Audiences tend to be less accepting of flawed female characters, who are often expected to be better, while a male counterpart gets to be the anti-hero.
Female characters are also the victims of "fridging" more often than male characters; this trope refers to when a character is killed off solely to further another character's storyline, with little attention paid to the tragedy of their death. Some of these fictional women are among the best TV characters of all time who inspired or prompted discussion in a spectacular manner. While some of them constitute TV deaths that left fans reeling,...

In Dexter, the titular serial killer has a biological son named Harrison Morgan, and while Dexter's kid has appeared in every season of the show since season 4, including the sequel Dexter: New Blood, several actors have played him. At the end of season 4, Harrisons mother, Rita (Julie Benz), is murdered, and he is left to be raised by his serial killer father. In the Dexter series finale, a slightly older Harrison is left in the care of Dexter's love interest and fellow killer Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski), who raises him in Argentina after Dexter is presumed dead.
Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott) shows back up in Dexter: New Blood season 1 and reconnects with his dad. Now, Harrison has a mixture of cold indifference, teenage angst, and simmering violence lurking beneath the surface. Unfortunately Dexter: New Blood ends with Harrison killing his father, as he realizes Dexter fits Harry's code. There were two Harrison Morgan recasts,...

Rita's death in Dexter created a pivotal turn in the storyline, impacting Dexter's emotional journey and the show's tone. The shocking event redefined the stakes and highlighted the dangers of Dexter's double life on loved ones, but it was also somewhat problematic. Rita's demise exemplifies the "fridging" trope, reducing complex female characters to mere plot devices for male protagonists.
When the Trinity Killer killed Rita in Dexter, it made for one of the most disturbing moments in the show, and was also called out for being problematic. The series revolves around Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a forensic blood spatter analyst who leads a double life as a vigilante serial killer. Along with working alongside police, Dexter attempts to maintain the appearance of a normal life. Julie Benz discusses contractual issues that led to Darla's demise in Angel. Benz's scheduling conflicts with Angel overlapped with filming commitments for another show. 9/11 affected Benz's availability for Angel, helping lead to Darla's death in the series.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel star Julie Benz opens up about why her character Darla was killed off. Benz has the distinction of being in the very first scene of Buffy. Although the dangerous villain wasn't originally intended to be a major part of the series, Darla was eventually revealed to have a history with David Boreanaz's brooding vampire that got expanded on the spinoff Angel. A key recurring presence, Darla was ultimately killed off in the spinoff's third season. But that wasn't necessarily the plan either.

Frank Castle has always been a vicious vigilante, but he is at his most brutal in the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone. While the film went largely unwatched at the time of its release, it's now streaming for free 16 years later, providing Marvel fans who've never seen it an opportunity to check it out at no cost.
Currently, Punisher: War Zone is streaming on Pluto TV. A box office bomb, the film was not a big money-earner upon release. It grossed $10 million worldwide with a budget of around $35 million. Critics in 2008 were also not very kind with their reviews, and Punisher: War Zone has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 29%. Despite the disappointing reception, however, the film has since earned cult status with some fans considering it to be Marvel's most underrated movie ever.

The cast of the cult classic movie Jawbreaker reunited to talk about the film. It comes as the movie celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2024.
There have been many films satirizing the cutthroat politics of American high schools, from Heathers to Mean Girls. While far less well-known, Jawbreaker was just as influential as any of those films. It is a cult classic in the truest sense of the word. Now, the cast has reunited to speak with Interview Magazine about all things Jawbreaker. When asked why the film is still worth talking about today, the cast spoke about how timeless its depiction of high school is. One of the stars, Julie Benz, said of director Darren Stein, "I think that Darren did such a great job of creating a heightened version of high school life that everyone can relate to. The fashion, the music, all the elements are just classic and timeless.

A quarter of a century later, the high camp fashion of 1999’s Jawbreaker still has a chokehold on fans of the cult classic.

Benz, who played mean girl minion Marcie “Foxy” Fox, recalled she “got to keep one outfit and it was the red, lacy, yellowy-orange top and skirt, and I think I wore that like 80 times until it fell apart.

The following list contains characters from the TV series Dexter who experienced tragic deaths throughout the show: James Doakes - Played by Erik King. A detective who suspected Dexter's dark secret, leading to his capture and death. Rita Morgan - Played by Julie Benz. A sweet and likable character, Rita's death was shocking and tragic due to her past abusive relationship and her connection to Dexter.
Despite the titular character making a habit of killing only the most heinous criminals, there are a number of Dexter deaths that are actually tragic. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) amassed a massive body count over the course of the series, targeting other serial killers. However, the dangerous and deadly world in which the story takes place also means that there were a lot of innocent people who fell victim to some bad people or even became unintended victims of Dexter's criminal activities.

Dexter is a forensic technician who secretly kills murderers to enforce his adoptive father's code of ethics. The Ice Truck Killer, Dexter's biological brother, challenges his need to kill and forces him to confront his past. In the end, Dexter chooses to protect his family and kills Brian, revealing the consequences of his dark passenger.
Ever since debuting on Showtime in October 2006 (and lasting seven more years), Dexter has gripped audiences when it comes to the story revolving around Michael Halls titular character. To all of those around him, Dexter Morgan is a seemingly inconspicuous individual who just enjoys being a forensic technician for the Miami Metro Police Department albeit a little too much. But under the guise of a crime scene surveyor whose specialty lies in blood splatter, the main character of this award-winning crime show is actually a serial killer who ends the lives of murderers who somehow escaped the justice system.

Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for Dexter.
Dexter's relationships with Rita, Lumen, and Hannah show his unexpected capacity for love. Rita's tragic death was a pivotal moment in the series, revealing Dexter's vulnerability. Dexter's complex relationship with Rita was hindered by his inability to fully reveal his true self.
Dexter Morgan had a complicated yet seemingly loving relationship with Rita Bennett throughout the first four seasons of Dexter. Rita, played by Julie Benz, was a complete ray of sunshine that contrasted Dexter's hidden darkness. Dexter, being a masterful manipulator, was easily able to make Rita believe that he was a mostly simple guy outside his gory day job as a Blood Spatter Analyst at the Miami Metro Police Department and fabricated heroin addiction in season 2. Rita, although somewhat naive and blindly trusting of others, did ultimately mean a lot to Dexter, even though he claimed in the first season to be incapable of loving her.
