But speaking of spin-offs, how many fans know that NCIS itself is a spin-off?

Many of NCIS's main stars and settings were introduced to viewers in the eighth season of CBS' Jag. Like its successors, Jag was also a long-running military-based procedural drama. It ran for 10 seasons and 227 episodes between 1995 and 2005. Those are impressive stats until you note that NCIS has more than doubled all those marks. It's exceedingly rare for a spin-off to outrun its parent series.

It's common Hollywood practice for a comedic actor to break out of their comfort zone and take on the gauntlet of a dramatic performance. Over the years, many hilarious actors have demonstrated their proficiency in this endeavor. Legendary comedian Steve Carell is a prime example of someone who excels at shifting between genres — after leaving the hit NBC sitcom The Office, which is now getting a reboot, he went on to deliver several stellar dramatic performances.

The opposite is a far less likely scenario. For the most part, actors who built their careers upon dramatic roles stay in their lane. Unless they've had previous experience with the comedy genre, their presence is generally unexpected. However, when a serious movie star gives comedy a try, it's always hysterical, as the no-nonsense image that their prior roles have created is immediately and hilariously broken down.

Lisa Hamilton Daly, who joined Hallmark Media in 2021, is out. On Monday morning, the company announced that her position as EVP of programming had been eliminated.

What Happened?

In July 2021, Hallmark Channel canceled the series despite its popularity. A year later, Variety reported that The Good Witch could return at some point. Since then, getting a revival back on the network has been a push and pull. Hallmark Media then shared they were done with this story.

During the 2024 Christmas Con panel, Bell admitted that she missed filming the show. She felt that the ending was abrupt. “I think we were all a bit surprised that it ended. It seemed to end a little bit sooner than I think everyone wanted. Certainly, from what you guys were telling us as well,” Bell explained, per Entertainment Now.

Hallmark Channel spoilers and updates reveal the cast of “Good Witch” recently reunited at Christmas Con and shared their dreams for a comeback of the popular show.

Christmas Con took place in New Jersey on Dec. 14, and Catherine Bell, James Denton, Catherine Disher and Sarah Power reunited on stage for a panel moderated by People’s Breanne L. Heldman.

Hallmark Channel Spoilers – The Cast Hadn’t Seen Each Other In Quite A While

Catherine Disher reflected on the reunion with the cast. She said “It’s amazing how we could go a decade without seeing each other, and then when we finally do, it feels like no time has passed at all; it was such a wonderful group.”

When asked about what the actors missed most about their time on the show, Bell opened up about the challenges of moving on from Good Witch.

“I truly miss being part of the show.

Though he has been known for some dramatic roles as well, Jim Carrey has been a notable comedy actor for a couple of decades at this point. These comedies include higher-profile works such as a The Truman Show along with goofier parts in films like Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This year, Carrey will play a goofy comedy role again in the soon-to-be-released Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This time around, Carrey will play both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in the threequel.

Morgan Freeman's career is in some ways the foil to Carrey's. In an inversion of Carrey's patterns, Freeman's career has consisted mostly of dramas, with the occasional comedy thrown in. He has been nominated for multiple Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his performance in Million Dollar Baby. One of the actor's most distinctive qualities is his voice.

Hallmark+ has dropped the third Cherry Lane movie on the streaming channel. This is Happy Holidays From Cherry Lane. This reunites Catherine Bell and James Denton again. In addition, this movie pairs up Benjamin Ayres and Erica Durance, as well as Julie Gonzalo and Ryan Rottman. In addition, Serge Houde is back!

Hallmark fans are excited about Lacey Chabert’s first Netflix movie, Hot Frosty. This Christmas movie will be premiering on Wednesday, November 13. However, subscribers will be able to see Lacey and other favorite Hallmark stars like Bethany Joy Lenz, and Kristoffer Polaha.

Hallmark+ is the rebranded streaming channel that will have a whole lot of Christmas this year. Firstly, they will air three new movie sequels to Christmas On Cherry Lane. Next, they will air the network’s first mystery series, Mistletoe Murders. Lastly, they will premiere two new holiday-themed reality shows.

This is all in addition to the Hallmark Channel’s Countdown To Christmas and Hallmark Mystery’s Miracles Of Christmas.

Per TVLine, North addressed the concern that the upcoming prequel series will have to navigate one of NCIS' lead character Jethro Gibbs' most defining characteristics - the relationship with his father, Jackson. "We did solve it," North said. "We're very aware of the canon and what's been set up, and we're working within that. But I'll say this: Jackson (to be played by Longmire's Robert Taylor) is an important role, and we'll see the influence of him on Gibbs."

Starting Monday, July 1, ahead of Independence Day, Prime subscribers can enjoy all ten seasons of the show. TV Line reports that Amazon has licensed the rights to every episode of Jag, whereas Paramount+ previously only had select episodes. With all 227 episodes soon available for streaming, fans can revisit the origins of the NCIS universe.

Whereas current rights holder Paramount+ only has select episodes, a source tells TVLine that Amazon has licensed the rights to every episode of the Navy drama — so, barring any operational delays, all 227 installments will be available to binge ahead of Independence Day.

Exploring the origins of the NCIS universe through a potential spinoff could be a smart move to keep the brand thriving. A show tied to Jag could attract viewers and sustain a long run through its historical connection. The NCIS universe is expanding exponentially, but a new spinoff would work better by returning to where the franchise began. With NCIS season 22 on the way and new entries not slowing down, it's a real surprise that CBS hasn't set up a series that tips the hit back to the venerable show's beginning. NCIS and its spinoffs stand the test of time because they are very rewatchable, so utilizing the past is a great way to keep the brand alive.

It's a shame one aspect of the universe's origins has been forgotten about as far as long-term shows go.
