"What are you doing here, Gloria?" "Waiting for something better to come along..." Gravitas has revealed the official US trailer for a film from the UK titled The Score, which is playing in theaters now and out on VOD next week. This premiered at the 2021 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival last year, where it initially grabbed my attention. From the producers of Yesterday, The Score boldly combines real time heist-thriller suspense with offbeat romance and a killer soundtrack; starring and featuring the music of Johnny Flynn, alongside Naomi Ackie and Will Poulter. Two small time crooks, Mike & Troy, are on a mission – the "score" – that they both expect will transform their lives. At a roadside café, as they wait for a rendezvous hand-over, Troy falls in love with the waitress, Gloria, and begins to question his life choices... with a threat of real danger on the way. Also stars Lydia Wilson,...

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most revered entertainers in the history of film, which is why it’s quite bizarre that there haven’t been a lot of portrayals of the director in front of the camera. He was notably portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in a 2012 biopic titled Hitchcock, Toby Jones in The Girl, and Roger Ashton-Griffiths in Grace of Monaco. Given the legacy that this acclaimed director has, these portrayals are simply not enough. Alfred Hitchock invented the psychological thriller genre, innovating film and storytelling techniques to deliver a whole new species of cinema that aims to have audiences at the

The Queen of Thorns isn’t one to play by the rules; nor is she one to take kindly to another scheming matriarch jostling for a place on the proverbial food chain.
Truth be told, the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones put Olenna Tyrell (Dame Diana Rigg) through the wringer, as she tried desperately to rescue her tortured grandchildren from the clutches of the High Sparrow. It’s only later on in the season that Olenna pleads with Cersei and the Small Council to take a stand against the oppressive church but here, in this never-before-seen deleted scene from Game of Thrones season 6, we see Olenna plot against Lena Headey’s Queen Mother with Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths).

When Cersei Lannister sent Mace Tyrell to the Iron Bank of Braavos on Game of Thrones, it sadly meant we were robbed of some more moments from the bumbling, hapless head of House Tyrell. Actor Roger Ashton-Griffiths always brings some much-needed levity to the show with his idiotic antics, and this deleted scene from season 6 is no different. Here, we see Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg) take her son to task as she tries to scheme her way out of a bad situation. Man, how great is Diana Rigg? You've gotta love her attitude on this show.

“Promise me, Ned.”
Olenna Tyrell sits all in black in the water gardens of Dorne, surrounded by beautiful women bent on revenge. “Cersei stole the future from me,” she tells Ellaria. Her enemy’s crime is so vast, so terrible that it cannot be described as the destruction of places or people. Instead it is the transformation, as if by magic, of love and hope, of the very will to live itself, into a tower of smoke and dust. It’s a magic trick The Winds of Winter plays more than once.
The episode opens on insular royalty and impoverished fanatics readying themselves for trial, their costumes all equally affected. A mournful piano burdens the sequence with a sense of dread and melancholy, building in the background as Cersei’s plot to destroy the city unfurls with horrid inevitability. The piece stitches bleak, quiet visuals into a clockwork sequence which...

Things are finally moving ahead in Daenerys' story, as she demonstrates her leadership qualities in the latest Game Of Thrones...
This review contains spoilers.
6.6 Blood Of My Blood
At times throughout the six seasons of Game Of Thrones, it's felt that all the story lines are moving except for Daenerys Targaryen's tale of revenge. Sure, she's conquered cities and raised an army while being a single mother to three surly teenage dragons, but at the same time, she's not really done that much either. Daenerys has been a lot of spinning wheels and painful lessons. That's not to say that there haven't been great moments along the way, but they've been fewer and farther apart than I think most people would like. That's all changing this season; Daenerys Stormborn is in full effect, and she's getting ready to bring the pain to the Seven Kingdoms.
Of course,...

Is everyone still done with "Game of Thrones"c Are you done watchingc I can't really tell because I guess I don't really care as the last two episodes following that most controversial moment that had the Internet up in arms are two of the best episodes of this show I've seen in some time. Now I don't remember each and every episode the way many of you do. I don't remember the names of each episodes and I'll admit there are even characters I recognize more for what they represent rather than who they even are. However, in last week's appropriately titled episode "The Gift" and in last night's episode "Hardhome" we've seen developments involving key characters with awesome narrative weight to them. Cersei (Lena Headey) is chilling in a cell, sipping water from puddles. Sansa (Sophie Turner) is still under the thumb of Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) and yet...

Every "Game of Thrones" fan has an opinion on Season 5 so far, even if they think it's boring. (How?!) GoT has a history of building to big endings, and the end is nigh for Season 5. This Sunday, May 31 marks Episode 8 of 10, and HBO shared details on what's ahead, giving major hints to book readers but also raising some new questions. Some stuff will be entirely new -- like everything Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen say to each other -- and other things may be "remixes" in the realm of what "The Walking Dead" always does with its source material.
Here's a breakdown of what's ahead in the final three episodes.

I am not sure who creates the fight scenes for Game Of Thrones, but they clearly need a raise. From what I've been able to track down on the show's very exhaustive cast list, the man responsible for the fights in this week's episode is Paul Shapcott, who did similar work on the various Peter Jackson Tolkien films and multiple seasons of Spartacus, two very popular, very clever properties that depended a great deal on swords to advance the plot. I know there are many more people involved in the stabbing and slashing aspects of Game Of Thrones: Pedro Pascal's wushu spear trainer Master Hu took a bite out of the Mountain, swordmaster Cc Smiff was the mastermind behind Brienne...

Let's start this week's "Game of Thrones" review and recap at the end. The fourth episode of this fifth season is called "The Sons of the Harpy" for a reason and that last action scene delivers, and what makes it stand out in an episode full of them are the stakes. The Sons of the Harpy are stepping up their activities and starting to win the support of the Meereenese people. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is losing her grip on her reign and the increased Sons of the Harpy outbursts are a physical manifestation of this shift. The action also stands out because of its coherence. The editing on many of the other action scenes in this episode are cut together in the seizure inducing, hyper-cut style of most modern action movies. The irony of this one being the clearest action scene is that all but two of the combatants wear masks.

★★★☆☆Olivier Dahan's Grace of Monaco (2014), about the marriage of Hollywood film star Grace Kelly (Nicole Kidman) and Prince Rainier (Tim Roth) is beautifully shot but lacks depth and tension. When Grace married Prince Rainer III of Monaco in 1956 it was like a fairy tale come true: iconic beauty gets her prince. But Grace sacrificed a successful career for her marriage and Dahan's film opens six years later when the cracks have begun to show. Grace finds it lonely bringing up two small children, while her husband is increasingly absent from the palace; embroiled in a row with France and dealing with affairs of state. So when Alfred Hitchcock (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) turns up to offer her a part in Marnie, she's sorely tempted.

Nicole Kidman's performance as actress-turned-royal Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco prompted plenty of attention.
In this clip from the film, Kidman's Grace turns down an approach from Alfred Hitchcock (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) to return to the silver screen to play the title role of Margaret 'Marnie' Edgar.
Kelly's rejection meant that Hitchcock briefly shelved the project to work on The Birds, where he gave Tippi Hedren her screen debut
When he returned to Marnie a year later, he opted to keep his leading blonde, who starred opposite "some Scottish fellow" that Cubby Broccoli was raving about.
Watch the trailer for Alfred Hitchcock's Marnie below:...

In our rundown of The 6 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Moments From Cannes Opener "Grace Of Monaco," Jessica Kiang noted the appearance of Alfred Hitchcock, as played by Roger Ashton-Griffiths, as one of them. "He’s Hitchcock, see, so obviously he’ll never manage to get through a single sentence without shoehorning in a reference to one of his films, or some sort of life lesson delivered as an opaque nod to the craft of filmmaking," she wrote and in this new clip from the movie, you can sorta see what she means. International distributors Warner Bros. have dropped a handful of new scenes from the movie, and while critics were quite hard on the film, it doesn't quite look a disaster (though it still doesn't look very good other). We get a sequence between Kidman's Grace Kelly and her (as our review describes it) "Catholic sensei" as played by Frank Langella.

There are countless missed opportunities in Grace of Monaco, a sponsorship deal with Ferrero Rocher being chief among them. Like the choccies doled out by that cheapnik ambassador, this portrait of Grace Kelly 'the royal years' aspires to refinement and class when, in reality, it's just an afternoon sugar buzz for bored housewives. No wonder the Cannes glitterati turned up their noses, but you don't have to be a connoisseur to know this is a pile of Nutella.
What was Nicole Kidman thinking? For one thing she is two decades too old to be playing Grace Kelly from the late '50s to early '60s (the star was only 26 when she went from Hollywood's High Society to the House of Grimaldi). Kidman does...

Despite having perhaps the biggest cast of any TV series currently on the air, and not being afraid to kill members of it off at random intervals, HBO's "Game of Thrones" continues bringing in fresh faces each year.
The fourth season has seen the inclusion of new characters like Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) and his paramour Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma), the foolish Mace Tyrell (Roger Ashton-Griffiths), brutal wildling Styr (Joseph Gatt), Iron Bank head Tycho Nestoris (Mark Gatiss), and the recasting of both Daario Naharis and Gregor 'The Mountain' Clegane.
Production begins on the fifth season later this Summer and so casting for key new roles has begun. Whilst there's no actor names yet, Winter is Coming has a breakdown of some of the characters from the books that will play a key part next year.

Coup de Grace: Embellishment Can’t Save Dahan’s Fairy Tale
Try as it might, Grace of Monaco can’t seem to wring any significant interest out of the historical moment it exaggeratedly blunders through. While it seems Harvey Weinstein’s public gripe concerning the director’s cut could very well receive critical support after its Cannes premiere, it’s doubtful that any amount of king’s men could put this together into some semblance of quality. Rife with melodramatic cliché, questionable casting, and some editing choices that appear to be imbuing the film with flourishes that the onscreen subjects cannot generate, the film staggers through key events in Kelly’s life to bring us to the conclusion that she left behind acting but embraced the role of a lifetime. Dahan, despite some uneven choices, generally has a knack for catching superb lead performances from his leading women, such as...

With apologies to Three Six Mafia, it's hard out here for a princess. In the past year, first-world problem films – the plush brand of non-issue cinema exemplified by last year's Cannes entry “A Castle in Italy,” in which linen-clad lunchers fretted prettily about what to do with their priceless original Brueghels – have been threatened by the Princess Problem Picture, a currently thriving subgenre that sets out to measure the true weight of a tiara. Whether the wearer is a closeted Scandi ice maiden who just wants, Garbo-style, to be left alone (“Frozen”) or a hounded British divorcee who just wants, Lauper-style, to have fun (“Diana”), female royalty hasn't seemed such a drag since the age of Henry VIII. Enter Olivier Dahan's “Grace of Monaco,” a biopic that announces its intention to further remove the scales from our eyes with an opening quote from its subject: “The idea of my life as a fairytale,...

Welcome back to Cannes Check, In Contention's annual preview of the films in Competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on May 14. Taking on different selections every day, we'll be examining what they're about, who's involved and what their chances are of snagging an award from Jane Campion's jury. Next up, the first of two British veterans in the lineup: Mike Leigh's "Mr. Turner." The director: Mike Leigh (British, 71 years old). Few filmmakers have essayed the mundane woes (and occasional joys) of Britain's working-to-middle classes with the vivid specificity of Mike Leigh, though given his distinctive vernacular and customarily heightened sense of the everyday, it's not quite accurate to classify him as a kitchen-sink realist. Either way, as both a playwright and filmmaker, he's as significant and influential a figure on the UK cultural lanscape as John Osborne or Alan Bennett. A Rada acting student turned art school graduate,...

After all that come the somewhat spoilery synopses of April episodes. They’re pretty vague, but it may at least indicate who survives from episode to episode. I’m happy to report that there will be at least one Hodor sighting, but I’m not telling when; you’ll have to look for yourself.

"Game of Thrones" is known for killing off major characters, often times without warning. A new piece of key art from the upcoming season 4 promises that the trend will continue. With more and more characters joining the ever-widening "Song of Ice and Fire" fray, it's a good bet that some of them won't last for long, while some more familiar faces will also be in jeopardy. Feast your eyes on this dire warning: There's that pesky three-eyed crow again, which is never really a good sign. And don't think that the "Men" in the image means that the show's female characters are in the clear, because fans know that's certainly not the case. Season 4 features returning stars Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Jack Gleeson. Newcomers include Pedro Pascal, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Mark Gatiss, Paola Dionisotti, Rupert Vansittart, and approximately 10,000 others. "Game of Thrones" returns on April 6 at 9 p.
